Six Samsung refrigerator models sold in the U.S. have been awarded the 2020 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Every year, the EPA, through its ENERGY STAR Program, chooses 1 or 2 innovative technologies for their Emerging Technology Award. This year the Award recognized six Samsung refrigerator models that met three strict performance criteria: (1) super-efficient compressors; (2) low greenhouse gas blowing agents for their insulation; and (3) low greenhouse gas refrigerants.

“This award shows that digital inverter compressor technology can save significant levels of energy in practice,” said Kook-Jeong Seo, Head of the Thermal Energy Lab, Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “Going forward, we will continue to develop products that contribute to reducing energy consumption and support sustainability.”

The digital inverter compressor serves as the ‘engine’ for Samsung’s main refrigerator line-up, and is the component responsible for determining how much energy the refrigerator consumes. Currently, nearly all of Samsung’s refrigerator solutions incorporate digital inverter compressors. While traditional compressors operate at a fixed speed, digital inverter compressors are able to automatically adjust their energy use between 1,050 and 4,300RPM according to need, at any given time. Samsung digital inverter compressors use around 30% less energy than ones with single-speed induction motor compressors, and thus also help contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. They have also been certified by German institution Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE)1 to last up to more than two decades in durability.

The ability of Samsung compressors to intelligently detect changes in temperature and adjust accordingly has additionally allowed for the emergence of other unique features in the company’s full refrigerator lineup. Refrigerators from the Samsung Chef Collection, for instance, feature a unique fixed-temperature technology called Precise Chef Cooling that maintains a temperature variation rate of less than 0.5 degrees Celsius (0.9 degrees Fahrenheit), ensuring that food stays fresher, for longer.

1 Result based on test conducted by VDE under Samsung-defined test protocol on compressor of selected models only

Samsung Electronics today announced that it will showcase its 2019 Home Appliance Innovations at the 2019 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas, NV.

Samsung changed the look of the kitchen when it introduced Black Stainless Steel, offering consumers a new stainless with cool tones and a sleek, modern look that quickly became the design trend of the modern kitchen. This year Samsung introduces the new neutral for 2019 – Tuscan Stainless. Inspired by warm, earthy tones, it combines a variety of natural hues for a warm grayish-bronze hue that blends seamlessly with any kitchen environment. Tuscan Stainless will be available across refrigerator, dishwasher, cooking and microwave oven models starting in May. A new Family Hub Refrigerator model in this new color will be available in August.

When it comes to laundry, no longer is the laundry room just a utility space, but a room where designers and homeowners carefully consider color, décor and functionality. Keeping with the warmer tones utilized by designers today, the new washers and dryers will be available in a stunning new champagne finish that turns the mundane laundry room into a space as beautiful and functional as the kitchen.

“At Samsung, we understand what consumers, designers and builders are looking for in the connected home and we know how to deliver on it. Here at the KBIS show we will demonstrate our continued commitment to creating these innovative products in ways that delight and inspire,” said John Herrington, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America. “From entry level all the way up to our luxury Chef Collection suites, Samsung delivers on every aspect of what consumers want in their homes. A seamless connected living experience that provides the performance they expect, available in designs that beautify their homes.”

With Wi-Fi connectivity and new washing technology, Samsung’s new WF6300R Front Load Washer takes the guesswork out of laundry and delivers a more powerful and faster wash. Cleaning a full load in as little as 30 minutes, these new washers free up more time for consumers to focus on things that matter most to them. Wi-Fi capability allows for simple, laundry planning on the go – whether it’s turning on your washer from a mobile device outside of the home, setting up the washer so it completes its cycle just as you return home—or getting Laundry suggestions for specific garments, these new washers turn Wi-Fi connectivity into seamless simplicity.

The new Samsung WA5400R Top Load Washer utilizes a new drum design where the total vertical depth is shallower and the width is increased, so it’s easier to reach into the washer, without sacrificing capacity. The “Active Water Jet” feature allows users to pre-treat and hand wash right inside the machine. Users can even add water for larger loads at the push of a button.

In addition to the new Tuscan Stainless suite of appliances and new laundry innovations, Samsung’s luxury built-in Chef Collection will also be on display at the show and includes many of Samsung’s most advanced technologies. New to the Collection is the Chef Collection 36” Pro Range (NY36R9966). The Pro Range features cast iron grates, which go from edge to edge, and includes two brass burners. It has illuminated knobs in which distinctive blue lights are a unique touch to show that it is on. The Pro Range can also be paired with the new 36” Chef Collection hood (NK36R9600), which is Bluetooth enabled and automatically turns on the fan and adjusts its speed based on the heat coming from the cook surface. Its 22k BTU Dual Brass Power Burners offer intense heat and more precise control, for either a quick boil of water or a slow melt of chocolate. The 36″ Pro Ranges has capacity ranging from 5.9-6.3 cu. ft., both accommodating a commercial size cookie sheet.

All of these exciting product innovations will be on display at the Samsung Booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Homes are getting smarter. According to ABI Research, the number of residences with at least one smart home device is projected to increase to 280 million over the next four years as connected technologies unlock new ways for consumers to simplify their daily lives. This shift toward connected living is especially exciting when it comes to the place where we spend approximately 60 percent of our waking hours at home: the kitchen.

Samsung Electronics showcased its leadership in connected-living technologies at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) in San Francisco from June 27 to 28. On display at the Samsung booth was a lineup of innovative built-in home appliances from its Chef Collection line and Dacor’s Modernist Collection, alongside cooking demonstrations that highlighted how to get the most out of your culinary adventures in the kitchen.

Tastefully Crafted Designs and Technology

Samsung’s Chef Collection integrates sophisticated technology with elegant design, in styles that are sophisticated yet simple, bringing the atmosphere of the professional kitchen into the home.

This year at PCBC, Samsung is launching new appliances which signal the company’s commitment to the premium appliance category, where the 36” size is the standard. The Chef Collection 36” Gas Pro Range has a refined look that features an edge to edge grate with bigger, illuminated knobs for better grip, and an easy-to-use interface. Samsung also debuted the Chef Collection 36” Gas Pro Range, the Chef Collection 36” Duel Fuel Pro Range, and the matching Chef Collection 36” Canopy Pro Range Hood. These appliances expand the choices available on the market to help builders and consumers design kitchens customized to their unique needs.

Other innovations from Chef Collection include flattering LED Frame Lighting in the refrigerator, Virtual Flame on the induction cooktop and digital and analog controls on the wall ovens that all allow you to see at a glance the exact state and status of your appliances. To heighten flexibility, the refrigerator’s Flex Zone converts from fridge to freezer with four temperature settings, and the Chef Collection Flex Duo Oven has a smart divider that splits a single oven compartment into two so that users can cook multiple dishes at different temperatures.

A Smarter Kitchen

Connectivity is the cornerstone of modern homes. With the Family Hub refrigerator, Samsung has transformed the heart of the home, the kitchen, into a place to connect with loved ones near and far.

You are never far from home when you can send photos directly to your loved ones on the refrigerator’s 21.5-inch digital screen. Mirroring your favorite TV show on the Family Hub’s screen allows you to move from family room to kitchen without missing a moment. You can even use the screen to see who is at your front door with the Ring app. What’s more, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capabilities in all appliances give you connected control from wherever you are via your smartphone.

Constructive Partnerships

Creating built-in appliances that are easy for builders to incorporate into their vision, Samsung has partnered with real estate investors, home builders and kitchen designers to bring even greater value to homeowners.

As the newest generation of home buyers are looking for premium designs integrated with technology, Samsung’s strategic partnerships with Cortland Partners and Medallion Home will offer a broad portfolio of premium built-in appliances.

In partnership with Cortland Partners, a global residential real estate investment and management firm, Samsung home appliances will be integrated into thousands of apartment homes in the U.S. Offering the integration of home appliances ranging from entry to premium packages, Samsung and Cortland Partners will be able to cater to the design and technology the homeowners are looking for.

Samsung is partnering with a leading home builder in central and southwest Florida, Medallion Home, to provide homes with appliances that integrates technology. Medallion Homes will now feature custom-designed homes with premium built-in appliances, which includes the Chef Collection line.

“Change in the home is moving at a faster pace than ever, driven by home buyers who want technology that both simplifies and inspires their lives,” said John Herrington, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America. “As we enter a new era in connected appliances, Samsung’s enriched connected experiences are transforming the way we use our kitchens and the things we are able to do there.”
