Concerns over the invasion of privacy and the loss of data ownership have become increasingly common. As technology continues to become further embedded in our everyday lives, our communication increasingly takes place online — which often means sharing sensitive and private information over the Internet.

It can be hard to know the right way to do this. For example, you might have concerns around the security of third-party messaging platforms. Or you might be worried that your private information and data could be lost or compromised in the event of a server attack or the loss of your phone. When connecting to another device, you might also worry about who can see your data, and how to keep it secure.

At Samsung, we’ve thought of all this and made it our mission to keep you protected so you can safely and comfortably share your data with whomever you choose.

Private Sharing With Quick Share

Ever been in a situation like this? You want to share pictures of your newborn baby or a video from your recent holiday, but don’t want to risk them somehow ending up online or visible to anyone other than those you intended.

Samsung Galaxy has a built-in solution to this problem: Quick Share’s Private Sharing, a privacy-preserving file-sharing function that lets you share your data with peace of mind.

With Private Sharing, you and you alone own the data. You can ensure that only the designated recipients can open the files you send — no one else. You can also set permissions and expiration dates for the data, so it’s only viewable for a limited amount of time. Furthermore, you can give read-only access without the ability to re-share, revoke the data access whenever you like, restrict screenshotting and see when the recipient received and opened the file.

Private Sharing makes it safe and easy to share your content, and you can share up to 20 files at once with a total size of up to 200MB.1 And of course, all your files are securely and fully encrypted when shared, courtesy of blockchain-based encryption technology.

To use Private Sharing, select the file you want to send and tap the Share icon. Tap Quick Share, followed by the three dots for more options in the top right corner. Then select Turn on Private Sharing. Once the message has been sent, you can check what you’ve sent and change the expiration date or revoke sharing permissions.

▲ Select file > Quick Share > Three dots (more options) > Turn on Private sharing

No more worries about misfiring a private photo or file, or having your information fall into the wrong hands. With Quick Share’s Private Sharing, you’re in control of your data and whom you choose to share it with, with visibility into file share status every step of the way.

Enhanced Data Protection With End-to-End Encryption

Here’s a moment that would make anyone panic. You receive a notification that something’s gone wrong with a website you visited, and the server where your sensitive account details are stored has been compromised.

No one wants their data leaked. But with Galaxy’s Enhanced Data Protection, you can be confident that your data remains secure in the Samsung Cloud.

Starting with the Galaxy S24, Enhanced Data Protection offers additional protection for Galaxy devices when you sync or back up your data with Samsung Cloud.2 This feature mitigates data loss via end-to-end encryption (E2EE), which ensures data can only be encrypted or decrypted on your device and cannot be seen by anyone but you. In other words, you can connect to other devices while staying secure, and your data will be kept safe even if a server is compromised or account details are stolen.

When you activate Enhanced Data Protection, you’ll be prompted to write down a recovery code to help prevent the loss of your data in the event you lose your device.

To use Enhanced Data Protection, open the Samsung Cloud app, tap the three dots for more options, choose Settings and then Enhanced Data Protection. From here, you can choose to encrypt backup or synced data. Alternatively, you can open your device Settings and go to Security and Privacy to find this feature.

▲ Samsung Cloud > Three dots (more options) > Settings > Enhanced data protection ▲ Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Enhanced data protection

End-to-end encrypted data is only accessible on devices using the Enhanced Data Protection feature, and cannot be accessed by anyone else, including Samsung.

We know that our users want to be able to enjoy their lives safely with the knowledge that their devices and data are protected. Galaxy enables you to do just that — so you can safely go out there knowing we have your back.

1 Private Sharing is supported between Galaxy devices with Android OS 10 (Q OS) or later & One UI 2.1 or later. A maximum of 20 files and 200MB can be transferred at one time. Shareable file types include images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .webp, .heic, .dng), videos (.webm, .mp4, .3gp, .3g2, .mkv), audio (.mp3, .wav, .ogg, .m4a) and documents (.txt, .pdf).
2 Enhanced Data Protection availability and support may vary by device model and OS.

Samsung Electronics today announced the global rollout of Temporary Cloud Backup,1 a secure and easy way to save and transfer important data. In situations where Samsung Galaxy users may experience anxiety about losing their data, including photos, videos and private files, this feature is designed to provide comfort and reassurance. It highlights Samsung’s continued commitment to delivering powerful, connected experiences that help make users’ lives easier.

“Temporary cloud backup provides a reliable and convenient way for users to back up and restore important information,” said Chiyoung Seo, VP & Head of Cloud Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “This upgraded switching experience based on Samsung Cloud2 aims to provide peace of mind to Samsung Galaxy users that precious data will not be lost, thanks to the connected power of Galaxy’s ecosystem.”

Users can choose to upload their data to Samsung Cloud storage via their Samsung Account,3 where it is kept safe and ready to be downloaded again. It is a free service, with no total storage limit, but individual file sizes are capped at 100GB. There is no need to use a PC or any external memory device, but Wi-Fi4 is required for data transfer.

Data is stored for up to 30 days from the date of users’ initial backup. Within this period, users will be able to restore their data whenever they want. Users are notified when approaching their time limit5 before their data is automatically deleted.

One Less Worry During Repairs or Replacements

Temporary Cloud Backup is an ideal service for ensuring data is preserved in various scenarios where users may be worried about losing their data, such as when getting a smartphone repaired. Samsung now includes the Temporary Cloud Backup as part of Maintenance Mode, helping to ensure personal data on a device,6 including private files within the Secure Folder, can be safely backed up for recovery after repairs.

This feature will also help Samsung Galaxy users upgrade their devices more conveniently, taking the stress out of device switching. For those preparing for their new preorder device to arrive, Temporary Cloud Backup provides a reliable and simple way to transfer their data. Users can confidently back up their data before performing a full reset on their old device, safe in the knowledge that it’s easy to recover that data at any time.

Users configuring their new device for the first time can restore their data as part of Setup Wizard. Even if they skip this stage, they can find Temporary Cloud Backup at any time within Maintenance Mode or the Reset function, enabling free and easy restoration at their convenience.7

Temporary Cloud Backup is the latest feature to be added to Samsung Cloud, mitigating risks of users losing data on lost, stolen or broken Samsung Galaxy devices. It is a secure, easy and seamless experience for backing up and restoring data on Galaxy devices that is protected by Samsung Account’s two-factor authentication, so users can feel more confident that uploading and restoring their data uses a secure process. Temporary Cloud Backup is just one of the ongoing efforts to optimize and improve the mobile experience for users across the Galaxy ecosystem.

The full global rollout of Temporary Cloud Backup takes place starting this fall for all Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets operating on One UI 6,8 starting with Galaxy S and Z series smartphones in Korea.

1 Available on Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets with One UI 6 or later. Availability of this feature may vary depending on market, carrier or model.
2 Temporary Cloud Backup supports data beyond native Samsung apps and account information, including but not limited to third party apps, photos, videos, audio, documents and files. Temporary Cloud Backup files will not be dependent of existing Samsung Cloud backup files, and backup data will not overlap.
3 Users must have a registered Samsung Account in order to use the Temporary Cloud Backup feature. For more information, please visit: https://support.samsungcloud.com/#/info-cloud-temporary-backup.
4 If Wi-Fi connection is interrupted, the backup or restore process will pause until the connection is restored.
5 Data can be stored for up to 30 days. Users will receive notifications on their phone 7 days prior to data deletion.
6 Support of data backup and restoration may vary depending on individual app policies.
7 Temporary Cloud Backup can be accessed via “Settings > General Management > Reset > Temporary Cloud Backup” or “Settings > Battery and Device Care > Maintenance Mode > Temporary Cloud Backup”.
8 For select markets, Temporary Cloud Backup was initially introduced as part of Maintenance Mode starting early January 2023. It was included within the Reset function from June. The availability of this feature may vary depending on market, carrier or model.

Syncing your data to the latest cutting-edge mobile device doesn’t have to be difficult. Samsung Cloud, a brand new service slated to launch with the release of the Galaxy Note7, makes switching to a new phone—or restoring an older device—easier than ever before. With 15 gigabytes of Samsung Cloud storage available to Galaxy Note7 users right out of the box, it’s never been more convenient to back up and retrieve data and applications.

A Cable-Free Backup and Restoration Option

With Samsung Cloud, users have a backup option that works independently of USB cables. The service works continuously to back up native apps such as Calendar and Contacts, as well as select third-party apps, so users can start right where they left off on a new device.

Samsung Cloud also ensures that users are never far from the data they need. If, for example, a user turns on Auto Backup for Messages on one smartphone, he or she can restore the backed-up messages later from Samsung Cloud on a secondary device sharing the same Samsung Account.

In addition, Samsung Cloud is designed to also back up the home screen and user settings. So in the event of a new purchase or the loss of a device, even shortcuts and layout settings can quickly be restored, helping users get back up and running on familiar footing.

Samsung Cloud is built to be seamless while users sleep. When a user activates the Auto Backup feature, the device will automatically upload information to Samsung Cloud via a Wi-Fi connection every 24 hours, provided the device’s screen is off and it has been connected to a power source for at least an hour.

Sync Multiple Devices in a Snap

Samsung Cloud also allows users to sync photos as well as content from apps such as Samsung Notes, Calendar and Contacts across their devices in accordance with their preferences.

For instance, if a user turns on Samsung Cloud’s Contacts sync on two Galaxy devices with the same Samsung Account, any changes made on one device, such as creating or deleting a contact, will be automatically reflected on the second device.

Users can also now back up their photos and videos. With photo syncing activated, recently snapped photos will be uploaded and shared across connected devices, as long as the device is connected to Wi-Fi or a data network. Photos and videos are accessible via the Gallery, and are updated to match the albums of the synced device. Users can also select specific albums to be synced, should they not want to transfer all images and videos across their devices.

A Simple, Seamless, and Intuitive Interface

Getting started is easy. From the device settings, select Cloud and Accounts, and then Samsung Cloud. The resulting screen will display sync, backup and restoration options.

Customizing preferences is simple. Users simply toggle the native Samsung applications they would like to sync, back up or restore via the main screen and Samsung Cloud handles the rest, keeping their other connected devices in the loop.

*Service availability and scope may vary depending on region, device and market conditions.

**All functionality features, specifications and other product information provided in this document including, but not limited to, the benefits, design, pricing, components, performance, availability, and capabilities of the product are subject to change without notice or obligation.
