Samsung Electronics will introduce its new products and solutions to its business partners around the world at Samsung Forum 2019.

During the two-month event, strategic products including the 2019 QLED TV lineup as well as customized products for regional markets will be showcased. Based on ‘New Bixby,’ Samsung’s intelligence platform, Connected Solution will also be exhibited where global business partners can interact with various Samsung products.

Starting with the European Forum, Samsung will invite media and partners from Europe, Southwest Asia and Latin America to Porto of Portugal from February 12th to 22nd. From March 7th to 11th, Samsung will host the Middle East and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Forum in Antalya of Turkey. Lastly, the Southeast Asian Forum will be held in Sentosa of Singapore to meet key business partners from March 25th to 26th.

Marking the 10th anniversary, this year’s Samsung Forum will be a venue to share the company’s business strategy and vision with key partners under the concept of ‘Samsung Plaza’ in which Plaza, the motif, is where people gather, meet, communicate and engage.

“We are delighted that Samsung will engage with global business partners at the 10th Samsung Forum this year,” said YH Lee, CMO & Head of Global Marketing Center at Samsung Electronics. “Moving forward, we will remain committed to helping people do things that once seemed impossible with our focus on AI and IoT to provide new experiences for consumers going beyond just connecting devices.”

Expansion of Consumer Choice with the Full 2019 QLED TV Lineup

As a market leader in the TV industry for 13 years, Samsung announced its entire 2019 QLED TV lineup that will be available in more than 60 markets within this year. The company will continuously increase the market share in the 8K TV market to sustain its solid dominance in the premium TV market.

“We have witnessed our customers’ unfaltering confidence and affection towards Samsung QLED TVs within the past year,” said Jongsuk Chu, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “This year, our 8K and 4K QLED line-ups are widening the gap in the market for ultra-large TVs, and we are proud to be able to deliver our most innovative and immersive lineup to date.”

The key products unveiled in the 2019 QLED lineup were a suite of 8K and 4K TVs, including the 8K Q900R that ranges from 65-inch to 98-inch screen sizes, as well as the 4K Q90R, Q80R, Q70R and Q60R that range from 43-inch to 82-inch sizes. In total, the expanded 2019 QLED lineup features more than 20 models and includes more ultra-large TV models.

As part of Samsung’s commitment to proliferate its QLED technology, its 2019 QLED TVs feature ‘Ultra Viewing Angle’ technology to provide sharp pictures with deeper blacks and a wider viewing angle.* Following its adoption in 8K models, Samsung’s new QLED 4K models are also now equipped with its proprietary ‘Quantum Processor,’ enabling the QLED 4K products to deliver any source content in different resolutions with improved brightness, picture quality and sound optimized for each scene through AI upscaling.

In addition, all Samsung 2019 QLED TVs will feature HDR10+, a premium picture processing format, so that users can enjoy a detail-rich picture. The QLED 8K TVs will also support HDMI 2.1 (8K 60P) transmission, and users of the QLED 8K can also enjoy content in a high picture quality on streaming services through AI-based 8K upscaling.

The ‘New Bixby’ feature on the 2019 QLED TVs gives users the ability to easily access the content they want through voice commands on Samsung’s ‘Universal Guide,’ which helps users search for content they might like based on previous watching habits and preferences.

To provide more entertainment options and open platform functionality, Samsung Smart TVs will offer a new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app and support Apple AirPlay 2. Additionally, through 2019 Samsung Smart TVs that now work with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant, a user can enjoy various features such as turning on/off TV or controlling audio volume via simple voice command.

After immersing the participants with its overwhelming size and enhanced resolution at CES 2019, ‘The Wall’ will again impress participants at the events in Portugal and Singapore. Samsung’s leading lifestyle TVs, the new ‘The Frame’ and ‘The Serif’, with unique design values and improved resolution after the adoption of QLED display for the first time, will also be displayed.

New Products Enabling Next Level Experience of Connected Life

As presented at CES 2019 this January, Connected Solution will also be exhibited at Samsung Forum 2019. Based on ‘New Bixby’, global business partners can enjoy the connected life experience with various products including QLED 8K, 2019 Family Hub, POWERBot and Galaxy Home. Not only that, they can get hands-on experience on how they connect with third-party products.

During the European Forum, AR Solutions will be demonstrated to help the participants virtually experience Samsung products and their interworking with other devices in the retailing environment with an aim of expanding the adoption of the technology in local retail stores.

The winner of the CES Best of Innovation award for four consecutive years, the 2019 Family Hub ensures better control of complex features with voice commands by supporting ‘New Bixby’, enabling enriched family communication and enhanced connections with other devices.

Samsung’s various mobile products and latest smartphones will also be on display.

In addition, Samsung will also exhibit customized products tailored to regional needs. ‘Make for India’ products, including microwave ovens with more than 250 Indian recipe features and refrigerators that can be powered by solar energy will be rolled out during the Southwest Asian Forum.

Samsung Electronics showcased, to over 350 stakeholders from all over Latin America, an exciting array of Smart and category re-defining products, from wearables to Smart TVs and washing machines, at the Samsung Latin America Forum 2016 in Estoril – Portugal.

The Samsung Latin America Forum is an annual event that provides exciting opportunities to experience the latest innovations in the industry, exchange information, as well as meet the leaders who are the driving force behind Samsung Electronics’ progress in 19 countries – from Mexico in Central America all the South to Chile and Argentina.

At the event, the company reinforced its focus on smart and connected lifestyles, while also revealing a premium set of new products that are coming to the region this year, which includes the bezel-less curved SUHD TVs with Quantum dot display; the flexible – next generation of smart kitchen appliances with a range of refrigerators with Twin Cooling technology; besides the cleverly designed and industry-first front load washing machine using AddWash, among other unique products and services.

“We are confident that our exciting range of premium connected products and services will be very well received in the Latin American market, where consumers trust and recognize the superior value of the Samsung brand”, affirms Pedro Kim, president & CEO for Samsung in the region. He added, “Samsung will continue to enhance and revolutionise the everyday lives of its consumers by listening closely and anticipating their needs, and delivering state-of-the-art products and services that fulfil and exceed expectations.”

Samsung established the Latin American Research & Development Centres, Lifestyle Research Labs, and Product Innovation teams to operate as in-house incubators, to learn more about behavioural patterns in Latin America and tune-in to their needs, and developing technologies and innovation that are driven and inspired the market.

Setting a New Standard for Home Entertainment

Samsung unveiled its spectacular new line of SUHD TVs, which offers unparalleled picture quality with Quantum dot display and HDR technologies, together with state-of-the-art design – the world’s first bezel-less curved TV, which is beautiful from every angle; and the smartest user experience that makes it easy for consumers to access all their entertainment content in one place.

Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TVs feature the world’s only cadmium-free, 10-bit Quantum dot display, offering the most true-to-life picture quality with stunning brightness, exceptional contrast and the most lifelike colours ever offered by Samsung. The future of display technology, Quantum dot display converts light into nearly any colour in the visible spectrum without distortion or compromising the brightness level, delivering the optimum viewing experience for consumers, regardless of the lighting environment.

This year, all of the Samsung SUHD TVs will feature the ability to provide a premium high dynamic range (HDR) experience, with 1,000 nit HDR minimum for a higher level of contrast between light and dark images. New Ultra Black technology also significantly reduces light reflection, further enhancing picture quality with minimal glare.

Built on the Tizen operating system (OS), Samsung’s 2016 Smart TVs make it easier for consumers to discover and access all their favourite content and services, from TV shows and movies, to games and programme information, all in one place. The new Samsung Smart TV eliminates the need to juggle multiple remote controls. The Samsung Smart TV will automatically recognise the type of game console, OTT box or home theatre system that is connected to the TV. This allows users to control such external devices with the Smart Control remote — with no setup required.

Samsung also unveiled the latest additions to its audio product lineup, including the new soundbar lineup with the wireless rear speaker kit that creates a “True” surround sound system without any wire, and Samsung’s Wireless Audio 360 Speakers that deliver the ‘sweet spot’ everywhere in the home with proprietary ‘Ring Radiator’ technology for a rich and vibrant audio experience.

New Generation of Digital Appliances Transforms the Home and Makes Life More Pleasant

The revolutionary Samsung Smart Convertible 5-in-1 Refrigerator is powered by Twin Cooling technology that enables consumers to be flexible with cooling storage, depending on their needs. First in the refrigerator category, the fridge and freezer compartment has its own cooling system allowing the refrigerator to be flexible depending on the necessity, offering five different modes: Daily, Economy, Vacation, Party and MiniBar. The five (5) conversion modes deliver the required flexibility, while also saving energy according to the chosen setting.

Many consumers have dreamed of owning a spacious refrigerator that keeps food fresher, so their weekly grocery shop lasts longer. But it is a common disappointment to reach into the refrigerator to find that the fruits or vegetables have lost their natural moisture, even when kept in the vegetable drawer. That is the reason why Samsung’s teams have developed the innovative Twin Cooling Plus technology, which with a truly independent cooling system, prevents unpleasant smells from food moving between the fridge and freezer, ensuring the original flavour of ingredients stored in the freezer is perfectly preserved and odourless.

The air does not move between the compartments, and the freezer stays completely frost-free, prolonging the shelf life and the flavour of its contents. It also prevents the build-up of ice, removing the need to defrost the freezer.

Moving from the kitchen to the laundry area, Samsung’s new washing machines come with the much needed, practical solutions for easier and more efficient daily experiences. The Samsung Add Wash front-load washer allows consumers to add items – such as an overlooked sock or t-shirt – or either, add fabric softener, during wash cycle, through its world’s first additional “Add Door” located on the upper part of the main door.

It also comes with an array of smart functions, which work with both Android and iOS smartphones. That not only makes it easy to monitor the progress of the laundry program, but also offers the option to alert users on their smartphone just before the start of a new washing cycle, for example if they want to add a few delicate or hand-wash items towards the end of the wash cycle. An embodiment of Samsung’s innovation in delivering time savings and washing performance, the AddWash Washing Machine comes with a SuperSpeed feature that makes it possible to complete a normal wash in less than an hour without compromising washing performance.

In terms of top loaders, the 9kg & 11kg ActivWash+ with built-in sink and dedicated Water Jet for convenient pre-treatment of laundry, incorporates a magic dispenser that lets you wash with less worry about residual detergent. It is specially designed to create a powerful water vortex that dissolves both liquid and powder detergent and spreads it evenly before you start washing.

Breaking Barriers in Mobile Productivity and Wearable Technology

In the 2016 Forum, Samsung also showcased the news of its wearables for Latin America. The brand announced the increase in its portfolio of products and services that work seamlessly together, also breaking new grounds and introducing new categories. This is the case of Gear VR – Virtual reality goggles with high definition that allow people 2D and 3D experiences. Beyond creating immersive situations in a very comfortable way, it also counts with a large amount of contents.

On the other side, Gear S2 classic 18k rose gold and platinum will also come to Latin America, offering a more personal and customizable experience. Therefore, Samsung is expanding its line of watch straps and watch face options. Samsung has partnered with exclusive designers, such as Alessandro Mendini, on premium watch straps for the Gear S2, and has introduced fun and creative watch faces including Peanuts characters and artworks.

Mobile Payment Service in Devices

On top of all the high quality smart devices already available in Latin America, Samsung is also developing new services to guarantee, full convenience and connectivity, proving its commitment with meaningful technology.

Samsung Pay is about to be launched in Brazil, in the coming months. With the widest acceptance of any mobile payment service, Samsung Pay is also very safe and simple, bringing us closer to a world without wallets. When it is time to pay, just launch Samsung Pay, scan your fingerprint and hold your Samsung device close to credit card reader in the payment machine. Done! In short seconds, the operation is concluded.

Even fast, it does not lack anything in terms of security. The system also has security layers composed of KNOX that constantly monitors any malicious activity. Each transaction uses a digital token to replace the actual card number. The mobile authorizes payment only with the consent (authentication through fingerprint) of the user.

Samsung Pay works with most existing card terminals in Latin America. That means this is the first and only payment solution that will make a transaction in almost any place where you can tap a credit or debit card (Samsung Pay is compatible to supports both NFC and MST systems)

Corporate Citizenship at the Heart of Business Strategy

Pedro Kim, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics Latin America, speaks about company’s vision and business strategy during a press conference at Samsung Latin America Forum 2016

For the first time at Samsung Forum, the company detailed in depth its Corporate Citizenship initiatives all around Latin America.

“Our strategy in Corporate Social Responsibility is based in using Samsung’s global network and innovations to create positive change for people across the world. Specifically, in Latin America, we have chosen education as our main cause”, explains Helvio Kanamaru, senior manager of Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Latin America Office.

In this context, Samsung works with three major programs in the region. They are:

Solve for Tomorrow is a program that challenges young students in Latin America (since 2014) to show creative ideas of how Math and Science can improve their local communities. Goal: stimulate youth’s engagement into thinking about practical solutions to issues encountered in daily lives (society).

Tech Institute is the program in which Samsung contributes to personal and technical professional training for young people in order to promote inclusion according to labor demand in the industry. Samsung is even starting to provide the 1st IoT Tech Institute of Latin America, in partnership with USP University in Brasil (in São Paulo).

Samsung Smart Schools are aimed at providing students and teachers of under-served areas with quality environment for education. Goal: enhance the learning process of students enrolled in public schools by providing new technologies and equipment, making the educational environment more intuitive, interactive and efficient.

“Innovation brings us not only inspiration to create new products and to deliver growth for our business, but also, great ability to help us on addressing some of the major social challenges of the world”, concludes Pedro Kim, CEO and President of Samsung Latin America.

Television is on course to collide with virtual reality and create a host of as-yet-unimagined experiences; that’s the view of Oscar-winner Tim Webber, Chief Creative Officer at Framestore, who was speaking at Samsung: Inside The Future of Television, a future-gazing panel event that saw leading minds from the worlds of technology and entertainment explore and debate what’s next for television in our lives.

The panel, hosted by TV presenter Marc Edwards (France 24, BBC World, Eurosport), included:

Simon Bryant (Head of Consumer Electronics, Futuresource) – An analyst who specialises in the television market, Simon has overseen countless industry reports and has a keen eye for changing TV habits across Europe.

Simon Mills (Bespoke Editor, Wallpaper* UK) – An expert on architecture and interiors, Simon has spent 25 years writing everywhere from The Sunday Times Magazine to GQ and The New Yorker.

Grzegorz Stanisz, European Director of Sales and Marketing, Samsung – Grzegorz has dedicated the last 13 years to securing Samsung’s place as category leader of the television market in Europe.

Tim Webber (Chief Creative Officer, Framestore) – Tim won an Oscar for his VFX work on Gravity, and also had a hand in The Dark Knight and Avatar. Framestore recently created a VR experience for HBO’s Game of Thrones.

TV: From Viewing to Experiencing

The panel began by looking at how television is moving from something consumers passively view, to an active device we experience.

First, the panel considered how experiences on mobile devices can be used to enhance the TV experience. Dual-screening is well established, with Grzegorz Stanisz of Samsung stating that “30% of the time, your eyes are away from the TV screen”, a point Tim Webber supported: “People are looking at their phone as much as at the TV. We need to produce content that works in companion with what’s on the big screen…content without ‘joins’.”

The continued growth of on-demand content is a trend all the panel expect to grow and grow. “Turning to how that experienced is controlled,” design expert Simon Mills was unequivocal: “The TV remote is on its last legs. Digital natives have grown up controlling their own devices, curating their own content. No longer is the remote the preserve of a parent in the big chair.”

Grzegorz Stanisz of Samsung tempered that the TV remote was here to stay for now, but it needed “a convergent approach…one remote to rule them all” pointing to the recently unveiled Samsung Smart Control – one remote which can control multiple devices – as an example of this.

Despite the “unreal” growth of on-demand content, consumer electronics expert Simon Bryant believes some traditional TV habits will remain – at least for now; “linear is here to stay, primarily as a relaxing experience” he said.

TV and the New Home Ecosystem

Next, the panellists turned to the home of the future and how smart, more beautiful TVs will fit into all our lives. In the future, Simon Mills of Wallpaper* expects televisions to become an integral part of how our homes are designed, stating; “architects will start integrating viewing tech into buildings from the start so they can function wirelessly and technologically…and work aesthetically.”

All panelists agreed that consumers are becoming much more design savvy, a reason why Grzegorz Stanisz of Samsung firmly believes “TVs need to look good not only from the front but also from the back and sides- from 360 degrees.”

Exploring the impact of the Internet of Things, Simon Mills was certain that increased connectivity will cement the television’s place at the centre of the home: “The TV will become a hub. There could even be applications for when we’re not even watching it, such as light patterns to help us sleep or wake.”

The Power of UHD Content for Consumers

A 2015 independent study, commissioned by Samsung, proved that UHD was 38% more immersive than HD content. Asked where we go beyond UHD, Grzegorz Stanisz said: “We are one step away from creating a lifelike experience in everyone’s home.”

Moving on to what this means for content creators, Tim Webber said creative studios such as Framestore “are working at the high end [of content production], and the increase in resolution, and increase in dynamic range means televisions are coming up to match.”

As overall Visual Effects Supervisor on Gravity, Tim admitted he found it “painful to see people watching some films on the back of an airplane seat.”

VR and TV

VR continues to gather pace in 2016, and the technology had a strong presence at the Samsung European Forum. Asked about the market potential of VR, Simon Bryant of Futuresource was positive: “VR is a huge growth market, we estimate around 70m head-mounted units selling annually by 2020, VR will be worth around $16billion including content and hardware. The growth over the next few years will be staggering.”

New hardware needs fresh content, and Framestore have already created a virtual reality companion experience for HBO’s Game of Thrones: “VR is a no-brainer for dramatic content”, says Tim Webber. “You are building a world that goes way beyond telling a story. I see VR enhancing the role of the TV”

Cinema and the Not-So-Small Screen

As average television screen sizes grow throughout Europe, questions were raised about how cinema, and home entertainment will relate to one another. Tim Webber said “the quality of screens and sound is now up there with cinema. The lines are blurring but they will always be two different experiences.”

Simon Bryant, backed this up with market insight from across Europe: “Small screen sales are falling, being replaced by tablets and mobile devices. While this is happening the primary screen is getting bigger and bigger.”

Commenting after the panel, Michael Zoeller, VP European Head of Visual Display, Samsung said: “Samsung has spent the last decade leading the television market and we are constantly driving for meaningful innovation for our consumers. For example, the SUHD televisions we unveiled at CES 2016 are already redefining the home entertainment experience with innovations like quantum dot display, bezel-less design, and IoT ready hub technology.”

“We brought together this panel to explore what the future means for television and some of the insights our panellists considered were fascinating. I’m hoping we can bring them all back in 2026 to see how their predictions stack up”.

Samsung Electronics Africa announced that it will bolster its Corporate Citizenship efforts in Africa in a bid to help the continent achieve its Sustainable Development Goals.

Speaking at the 2016 Samsung Africa Forum, Abey Tau, Corporate Citizenship and Public Affairs Manager, said: “As a global citizen, we felt it was important to use our technology to give back to society. We do this in four ways: by creating new learning opportunities so that young people can enjoy access to better education; by using our technical expertise to develop and provide access to new healthcare solutions; by supporting youth employment through vocational training and skills development; and by reducing our impact on the environment.”

According to the World Bank, Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for more than 50% of all out-of-school children worldwide, which affects their future employment opportunities. The dire situation faced by many African countries is a result of a number of factors, including civil unrest, cultural beliefs and a lack of schooling infrastructure and resources.

It is against this backdrop that Samsung Electronics Africa has adopted an attitude of innovation by introducing technology where it previously has not existed. The aim is to make sure that every African child has access to education no matter where they are on the continent, using state-of-the-art digital technology enjoyed by children in developed countries.

Education as Seed of Innovation

Samsung believes that digital technology can completely transform the learning process, as well as the nature of teaching and learning, to create inclusive environments for everyone. Its Solar Powered Internet Schools, Smart Schools and E-Learning Academies provide solutions that deliver on this vision and improve the quality of learning, enhance teaching effectiveness and allow administrators to run institutions more effectively.

The company works with educators around the world to improve learning experiences through the use of technology, facilitating a classroom environment that is limitless and gives students access to a world of knowledge from their desks or on the go.

Through these education initiatives, Samsung hopes to instill a love of learning in students so that they may have equal access to opportunities and go on to become active participants in the economy. This can help to reduce the number of out-of-school children, giving them a chance to succeed.

Earlier this month, Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, attended the launch of a Smart School in the state of Ogun.
Samsung will continue to drive access to education by launching a number of education initiatives in Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and DRC in 2016.

Skills of the Future

However, it takes more than simply providing access to education. As a result of the work Samsung continues to do across the continent, alongside governments, private sector partners and communities, it has come to light that many graduates leave institutions of higher learning with strong theoretical knowledge but lack the practical skills needed by industry.

Samsung’s Engineering Academy and Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Academy aim to change this by providing free, intensive, hands-on training to graduates. The Academies seek to develop skilled young African leaders who are adequately prepared for the world of employment. The programme forms a core part of Samsung’s vision to fast-track the entry of African youths into the electronics job market and to reduce the shortage of scarce skills in the IT industry. Zimbabwe will be a recipient of one of these academies this year.

“Investing in the skills of the youth also benefits Samsung – the more young people we can develop with skills in the electronics industry, the more we can be assured of our ability to provide excellent service to our customers,” says Tau.

Access to Quality Healthcare

According to the World Bank, more than 60% of people in Sub-Saharan Africa live in rural areas and are unable to access clinics for proactive medical care.

To help alleviate this, Samsung Electronics Africa has put initiatives in place through public-private partnerships.

In 2013, Samsung introduced the Solar Powered Health Centre, a solution housed in a shipping container fitted with the most advanced medical equipment and Samsung solar panels. Patients can be screened at the centre to diagnose conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, tooth decay and cataracts. They can also access information on health issues.

Samsung’s Mobile Health Centre, which uses technology to remotely connect to specialist doctors anywhere in the world to get expert opinion and diagnoses, communities quick access to primary healthcare, screening, mother and child facilities, dental care, eye testing and emergency care This year, Samsung will be establishing a Mobile Health Centre in Togo.

Samsung’s Digital Village, which focuses on the challenges in underserved and rural communities, provides access to new experiences by bringing advanced Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to under-resourced areas. This helps to bridge the digital divide and serves as a catalyst for local business and government service delivery.

The Digital Village is a hub where community members can access educational and health solutions.

Within a Digital Village set-up, Samsung also offers a Mother and Child Unit, which is equipped to offer comprehensive pre- and post-natal screening, care and education in an effort to reduce Africa’s high infant mortality rate.

In 2016, Samsung will be launching Digital Villages in Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania.

“These multi-purpose offerings provide a sustainable solution to challenges faced by African people, while improving their standards of living. The model addresses one of Africa’s largest economic challenges – electrification. The scarcity of electricity results in limited access to education, healthcare and connectivity – all of which are key to socio-economic development,” adds Tau.

Corporate Citizenship that Makes a Real Impact

“Collaboration with communities is key to finding the correct remedies to societal challenges,” says Tau. “At Samsung, we have a vested interest in the communities we operate in and, as a result, we have come up with solutions that directly address the everyday challenges most people encounter. Over the years, our collaborative efforts – guided by our strategic focus in the areas of education, health, the environment, and skills and employability – have seen us collaborate with different communities, NGOs and governments. These collaborations have given us insights that we have used when designing the solutions we have installed in the different communities across the African continent. 2016 is another year we build on these progressive partnerships and ensure that we positively impact the lives of more people.”

Samsung Electronics unveiled its product line-up for 2016 at its annual Samsung Africa Forum event. The company underlined the importance of innovation that makes a meaningful difference in people’s everyday lives, showcasing its new bezel-less curved SUHD TVs with Quantum dot display, the industry-first Front Load Washer with AddWash, and a range of refrigerators and freezers with Twin Cooling technology.

“Samsung has continuously worked to help people live smarter lives, and this year we have taken a huge step forward with our diverse products and services,” said Mr. Yoo Young Kim, CEO and President of Samsung Electronics, Africa Office. “We will continue to enhance consumers’ quality of life by listening to their needs and strengthening our ecosystem.”

The Next Generation of Home Entertainment

Samsung unveiled its spectacular new line-up of SUHD TVs that feature unparalleled picture quality with Quantum dot display; the world’s first bezel-less curved design, which is beautiful from every angle; and the smartest user experience that makes it easy for consumers to access all their entertainment content in one place.

The Samsung Smart TV will automatically recognise the type of set-top box, game console, OTT box or home theatre system that is connected to the TV. This allows users to control all of the external devices with the Smart Control remote — with no setup required.

Samsung also unveiled the latest additions to its audio product line-up, including the HW-K950 Soundbar, the company’s first to feature Dolby Atmos®, and the industry’s first soundbar package to include two Dolby Atmos®-enabled wireless rear speakers. The complete HW-K950 package delivers an incredible 5.1.4-channel sound.

Intelligent Digital Appliances Transform the Kitchen

Many consumers have dreamed of owning a spacious refrigerator that keeps food fresher longer so their weekly grocery shop goes further. It is a common disappointment to reach into the refrigerator to find that the fruits or vegetables have lost their natural moisture, even when kept in the vegetable drawer.

“The R&D team at Samsung worked hard to overcome this problem. Now consumers can keep food fresher, longer, with Samsung’s innovative Twin Cooling Plus technology,” says Sunil Gupta, Africa Regional Product Manager, Digital Appliances.

Samsung’s Twin Cooling Plus technology is a truly independent cooling system, preventing unpleasant smells from food moving between the fridge and freezer, ensuring the original flavour of ingredients stored in the freezer is perfectly preserved and odourless.

No air movement between the compartments also means the freezer stays completely frost-free, prolonging the shelf life and the flavour of its contents. It also prevents the build-up of ice, removing the need to defrost the freezer.

Thanks to the Twin Cooling Plus technology, consumers can enjoy flexibility with cooling storage depending on their needs. The true independent cooling system allows for turning the freezer into a fridge when required, or just turn off the fridge compartment when leaving home for a long vacation. The five modes are Freezer-Fridge, Energy Saving, Vacation, Fridge Max, and Mini mode.

Samsung today also launches an affordable range of refrigerators and freezers, designed especially for African consumers. These include the vertical freezer, the 180-litre top-mounted freezer, the 1-Door 110-litre fridge, and a chest freezer in the small size capacity of 150 litres.

Making the Washing Machine Work For You

Samsung recognises that in the rush to get laundry done on a frenzied weeknight or during a crazy weekend, a stray sock may simply get overlooked, so Samsung’s simple, practical response to that is to add the industry’s first “AddWash” door to its front load washer.

The Samsung Front Load Washer with AddWash has a distinctive access door that makes it convenient to add any item, such as a piece of forgotten laundry or extra detergent, in mid-cycle without needing to drain the washer and open the main washer door.

AddWash utilises a SuperSpeed feature, which finishes a load in less than an hour. It also features our EcoBubble technology, which premixes detergent with air and water, penetrating clothes 40 times faster than a normal mix of water and soap. It comes with an array of smart functions, making it easier for users to monitor and control wash cycles.

From gently caring for delicate fabrics, to advanced technologies that make detergent work harder, to a full load washed in as little as 30 minutes, Samsung’s Front Load Washer with AddWash can easily keep up with your family’s toughest laundry tasks.

Corporate Citizenship at the Heart of Business Strategy

For the first time at Samsung Forum, Samsung will be showcasing its Corporate Citizenship initiatives in Africa.

Samsung will bolster its efforts in Africa in a bid to help the continent achieve its Sustainable Development Goals.

“As a global citizen, we felt it was important to use our technology to give back to society. We do this in four ways: by creating new learning opportunities so that young people can enjoy access to better education; by using our technical expertise to develop and provide access to new healthcare solutions; by supporting youth employment through vocational training and skills development; and by reducing our impact on the environment,” says Abey Tau, Corporate Citizenship and Public Affairs Manager.

Intelligent Next Generation of Digital Appliances That Transform the Home

Samsung’s market leadership in digital appliances is also evident with its launch of smart and practical innovations that could make a big difference to household chores.

The new AddWash Front-load Washing Machine has a distinctive access door that makes it convenient to add any item, such as a piece of forgotten laundry, without having to drain the washer in order to open the main washer door mid-cycle. It also allows users to add hand-washed items for rinsing, or additional softener anytime during the cycle.

An embodiment of Samsung’s innovation in delivering super time savings and washing performance, the AddWash Washing Machine comes with a SuperSpeed feature that makes it possible to complete a normal wash in less than an hour without compromising washing performance. Samsung AddWash will be available across Europe from this month.

Samsung used its European Forum to announce that French-English two-star Michelin chef, Michel Roux Jr. is to become the eighth member of its esteemed Club des Chefs. Michel Roux Jr., of Le Gavroche and Roux, is also known in the UK as a popular TV personality, appearing as a judge and presenter on the BBC’s popular primetime programme, Masterchef.

Samsung also announced the expansion of its robot vacuum lineup with POWERbot Turbo Wi-Fi. Now with 70 times more powerful suction than leading robot vacuum brands*, its Cyclone Force system uses strong centrifugal forces to pick up and separate dirt into the outer chamber to reduce filter chopping and keep optimal suction power.

Equipped with Smart Control Wi-Fi connectivity, the vacuum enables consumers to control the movement of the vacuum remotely using their smartphone. The “Select & Go” feature creates a virtual map of the entire home on your smartphone app, with each room that can be named individually. It then lets you pick specific areas or rooms in the home that may need cleaning. Simply select a room and the vacuum will make its way over there. With an enhanced digital mapping system that can literally “see” its way around your home, Samsung’s new robot vacuum delivers the ultimate clean, all without lifting a finger.

A major new attraction at the European Forum 2016 was the new Family Hub Refrigerator, redefining the kitchen with the ultimate smart home appliance, which helps families to connect and provides new ways to manage, shop and prepare food. Its centrepiece is a 21.5-inch Full HD LCD touchscreen, a digital command centre for the connected home, which combines powerful performance with ground-breaking technology never before seen in a refrigerator.

The Family Hub’s Key capabilities include:

Improved Food Management: Three built-in cameras take a photo of the inside of the refrigerator every time the door is closed so consumers can always see what they have wherever they go, via their smartphone.

Family Communication Centre: The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator enables the family to write notes, post photos, share calendars and artwork, right on the refrigerator’s touchscreen, or using their smartphone if they are away.

The “channels” are added automatically when the TV detects an Internet connection, without the need to subscribe to the service or install an application.

The service is designed to seamlessly and conveniently combine the linear TV experience with VOD service.

Starting soon in Thailand and Vietnam, then expanding to other countries around Southeast Asia, Samsung’s TV PLUS will feature K-pop and music content, as well as programs about education, food, travel and beauty.

Samsung launched TV PLUS in Korea in October 2015, featuring 33 channels and a wide range of content, including dramas, music and education. One-fifth of Samsung Smart TV users have watched TV PLUS, and their rate of revisiting the service exceeds 80 percent.

“TV PLUS is a new concept in smart TV services, enabling users to watch their favorite programs more easily,” said Won Jin Lee, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will offer a variety of services that will make smart TV feel more familiar to customers.”

The new Samsung 2016 Smart TVs for Southeast Asian countries will also feature All Care Protection, an enhancement to Samsung’s Triple Protection that guards against damage caused by unstable conditions, such as electrical surges, lightning and humidity.

With All Care Protection, Samsung TVs are designed to minimize ventilation, to limit dust and insects. Samsung All Care Protection also restricts the types of files permitted to be played, minimizing the risk of viruses.

In addition, Samsung’s lineup of TVs, from premium to entry-level, utilizes a feature called Clean View, which automatically eliminates noise from TV signals by analyzing the video source. With Clean View technology, analog broadcasts can be enjoyed with a much-improved picture quality.

Samsung is working to develop services and features for its products based on an in-depth understanding of the evolving tastes and unique needs of consumers in each region.
