Samsung is committed to empowering users’ health routines with a seamlessly connected ecosystem of personalized wellness experiences. Samsung Health makes this possible by bringing together fragmented health data into a consolidated platform, enabling users to easily monitor their wellbeing.

To further this mission, Samsung Health now offers expanded health management capabilities,1 enabling users to easily access their health records, effectively manage medications and track their daily food intake with convenience — all through the latest Samsung Health app update available starting today. To bring these advancements to life, Samsung has partnered with industry leading companies specializing in health data integration, medications tracking and food barcode scanning, optimizing the experience in select markets.

Manage Health Record from a Single, Secure Place

With a new Health records feature,2 users can easily access medical records from clinics, hospitals and major health networks — all in the Samsung Health app. Samsung has partnered with b.well Connected Health, a platform that consolidates the largest electronic medical record (EMR) systems in the United States. including athenahealth, Cerner Health, Epic Systems and Veradigm®. The Health Records feature guides users toward preventative care by offering meaningful insights and alerts that suggest next steps, such as recommending medical tests or actions. By offering a holistic view of their health history — including vaccination and prescription records, past hospital visits and even specific test results — users can more effectively communicate with their healthcare providers by having their important medical details at their fingertips.

Advanced Medications Tracking Expands to More Users

Launched in the U.S. last year, the Medications tracking feature3 has allowed users to easily keep a record of medications and access relevant tips and information including general descriptions, potential side effects and warnings about drug interactions or food-related reactions. The feature is one of the most frequently used among Samsung Health app users in the U.S., with around two-thirds returning to manage their medications at least three times per week. Through the latest update, the Medications tracking feature allows more users to easily manage their medications with expanded functionalities and availability. With the visual search, users can easily add medications to their personal medication list by simply scanning the pill bottle with their phone camera. They can also check adherence levels and easily monitor medication progress, including details on dosage schedules or a missed dose, through an intuitive dashboard.

Medications tracking feature is also expanding to South Korea and India, forging strategic initiatives with leading regional partners to offer insightful information to even more users. In the U.S., through its partnership with Elsevier, a globally recognized healthcare data hub, the Samsung Health app also provides warnings for over 960 types of allergies and potential reactions to medications. In Korea, with Korea Pharmaceutical Information Center (KPIC), an authoritative institute under the Korean Pharmaceutical Association, users can receive warnings about medications to avoid during pregnancy. Plus, in India, through a collaboration with Tata 1mg, India’s leading digital consumer healthcare platform, users can not only receive reminders to refill medications, but conveniently do so online when needed.

Effortlessly Monitor Food Intake With Barcode Scanning

It is essential to monitor one’s daily dietary intake and establish healthy eating habits. Barcode scanning has now been added to the Food tracker in Samsung Health, making it even easier to log food details such as names, calories and nutrition facts. In partnership with fatsecret, one of the largest global providers of verified food and nutrition data, users can simply scan food barcodes to receive necessary nutritional information automatically in the app. The feature will first be available in the U.S. and select European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, and expand to additional markets in the future.

Samsung is dedicated to shaping the future of comprehensive health management and continuously optimize wearable technology to bring smarter, more personalized solutions for everyday wellness. These advancements strengthen the foundation of Samsung’s digital health platform, and when combined with Galaxy AI and other innovations, deliver more meaningful and impactful experiences globally.

1 These features are intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. Not intended for use in detection, diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition or disease. Availability of these features may vary by market or device. Requires smartphone with Android 10.0 or later and the latest version of the Samsung Health app (version 6.28 or later).
2 Samsung Health Records is powered by b.well. Samsung Health Records uses b.well Connected Health technology to provide services that allow users to view all their medical records in one convenient location. The feature should not be used to practice medicine or as the basis for medical decisions.
3 Samsung Health Medications feature is intended to help users manage their medication list and schedule. Information provided is evidence-based content licensed from Elsevier, KPIC and Tata 1mg.

Samsung Electronics today announced a new Medications tracking feature1 that will be added to the Samsung Health app2 to help users manage their health more comprehensively. The new feature will help users easily keep track of both their prescription and over-the-counter medications and provide important, relevant information and tips about these medications. In particular, it can assist those who take medications regularly and those taking supplements for general well-being.

“Samsung Health aims to help people better understand and manage their health through a holistic platform by connecting devices, services and people,” said Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics. “With the addition of the new Medications tracking feature, we believe users will be able to more conveniently manage their medications, improve adherence and ultimately maintain better health overall.”

Upon entering the name of a select medication into Samsung Health, the Medications feature will provide users with detailed information that includes general descriptions as well as possible side effects. Adverse reactions that could occur from drug-to-drug interactions or if taken alongside certain food and substances such as caffeine and alcohol, are also provided. One example of this is, if a user is taking the prescription drug Simvastatin, Samsung Health will warn the user that the drug has been linked to serious side effects when combined with grapefruit juice. Users can even log the shape and color of their medications, allowing them to easily differentiate between the pills they are taking. Dosage, time of consumption and other details can also be added to avoid any potential confusion.

Users can set up alerts that remind them both when to take their medications and when they should consider refilling them. These alerts are fine-tuned to the individual user so the Medications feature is able to prioritize medications depending on their importance, with Samsung Health sending reminders ranging from “gentle” to “strong” depending on how important or urgent a given prescription is. For crucial medications, users can set a “strong” reminder that will display a full screen alert on their smartphone accompanied by a long tone. For supplements like vitamins, a simple pop-up reminder will appear that will not disturb the user. Galaxy Watch users will also receive reminders right on their wrist so they can stay on top of their medication schedules, even when away from their phones.

The Samsung Health app provides a range of advanced health offerings spanning sleep management,3 mindfulness programs and irregular heart rhythm detection4 capabilities. With the addition of the Medications tracking feature, Samsung Health delivers a truly holistic wellness experience that helps users maintain healthier lifestyles while keeping on top of their medication regimens.

The Medications tracking feature will first be available on Samsung Health app in the U.S. via the app updates rolling out later this week.

1 Samsung Health Medications feature is intended to help users manage their medication list and schedule. Information provided is evidence-based content licensed from Elsevier, a global leader in information and analytics.

2 Requires smartphone with Android 8.0 or later and Samsung Health app version 6.26 or later. Availability for the features may vary by device.

3 Sleep features are intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. The measurements are for your personal reference only. Please consult a medical professional for advice.

4 The IHRN feature is only available in select markets. Available on Wear OS devices version 4.0 or later. It is not intended to provide a notification on every episode of irregular rhythm suggestive of AFib and the absence of a notification is not intended to indicate no disease process is present. It is not intended for users with other known arrhythmias. The features are supported via the Samsung Health Monitor app. Availability may vary by market or device. Due to market restrictions in obtaining approval/registration as a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), it only works on watches and smartphones purchased in the markets where service is currently available (however, service may be restricted when users travel to non-service markets). This app can only be used for measuring in ages 22 and over.

Samsung Electronics announced today a brand-new Group Challenge feature in the Samsung Health app1 so you can now open a 10-people friendly health competition and see who can move the farthest or the fastest.

While sheltering at home or holiday feasting may have gotten in the way of your fitness goals, getting back on track does not have to feel daunting. Starting January 12th,2 Galaxy users can simply create a challenge in the ‘Together’ section of the Samsung Health app to see either who can take the most number of steps in a set amount of time; or who can be the first to reach a certain number of steps. Once a challenge is created, you can then invite up to 9 friends to join, even if they are not existing Samsung Health users.

Go to ‘Together’ Tab and click ‘Challenge’ Button in Samsung Health app. You can select between ‘Get the first’ and ‘Go the farthest’ types.

Find Your Fitness Motivation

On average, those who use the Challenge features in the Samsung Health app walk over 22 percent more than the average Samsung Health users. This demonstrates that motivation and competition can be key factors in achieving your health goals, which is why Samsung continues to add new features and capabilities to help you have fun while staying healthy.

Group Challenge is the latest expansion of the Samsung Health Challenge features, which you can access via the Together tab on the bottom of the Samsung Health app. There is Global Challenge, the most popular type of Challenge, which enables you to enter monthly step count competitions against all Samsung Health users around the world. Samsung also introduced 1:1 Challenge, allowing you to invite one of your close friends or family members to work with you to achieve your step count goals. And now, 1:1 Challenge has evolved into Group Challenge. While you still have the option to create a one-on-one competition, you can now invite anywhere between 1 to 9 of your friends so you can work out and keep each other motivated to achieve your fitness goals, even when you’re apart. You can even create multiple Group Challenges so you can simultaneously compete with family, friends and co-workers.

Improve Your Overall Wellbeing

Since its launch in 2012 as a simple fitness tracker, Samsung Health has grown into a comprehensive health, wellness and fitness platform, with a wide variety of features, ranging from virtual exercises and mindfulness videos, to the ability to track sleep patterns, heart rate and blood pressure.

As the capabilities grew, so did the number of Samsung Health users – more than 200 million people around the world used Samsung Health in 2020.
