Samsung SmartThings, the premier technology enabling connected living and driving the future of IoT, unveiled today further details about the integration of SmartThings Hub software into select 2022 Samsung Smart TVs, Smart Monitors and Family Hub refrigerators. Shared at CES 2022, the incorporation of SmartThings Hub software allows seamless connectivity and control, igniting Samsung products into the command center of the modern home. By providing new entry points to connected living for tens of millions of homes, consumers can easily turn their home into a smart home.

Consumers are more willing than ever to embrace connected experiences within their homes, resulting in explosive growth and mass industry adoption. According to the “2021 Connectivity and Mobile Trends Survey”1 issued by Deloitte, U.S. households own an average of 25 connected devices, and consumers are increasingly prioritizing ease-of-use, interoperability and cost savings when making a purchase decision.

“Historically, consumers relied on dedicated hubs to connect each of their devices,” said Mark Benson, Head of Product and Engineering at Samsung SmartThings. “By integrating SmartThings Hub technology into select Samsung products, we are eliminating a barrier to entry and streamlining the entire process to enable consumers to create the connected home of their dreams.”

With billions of devices already compatible with SmartThings’ rich ecosystem of partnerships, along with future support for the groundbreaking smart home interoperability standard, Matter, SmartThings is at the center of creating a unified connected home experience.

The integration of the SmartThings Hub empowers users to get the most out of their Samsung devices by leveraging various smart home communication protocols. In addition to Matter, the built-in software will support connection over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, which will enable communication among a wide range of smart devices. Additional connectivity to Zigbee devices will also be possible through an optional USB accessory.

“SmartThings’ mission has always been to create experiences that can make people’s lives better. To bring this mission to life, we have doubled down on enhancing SmartThings technology and this is the next step in Samsung’s vision to make all homes connected,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President at Samsung Electronics and Head of SmartThings. “With the breadth of the Samsung portfolio and the open, versatile and flexible platform offered by SmartThings, we are uniquely positioned to deliver on the increasing demand for connected home devices that has been building since the start of the pandemic.”

SmartThings Hub capabilities will be available in select Samsung products throughout 2022. For more information about SmartThings, please visit www.smartthings.com.

Today, our homes have become multifunctional. Living rooms are now doubling as yoga studios, movie theaters, and makeshift classrooms. The kitchen counter has become a remote office desk. Living in this ‘new normal’ has required us to become more creative about how to fit our daily routines into limited spaces.

From the way we use our rooms to the materials we use in our interior design, so many things have changed inside our homes – except our appliances.

At Samsung, we believe that now is the time for our appliances to change. Appliances must be designed beautifully to satisfy the tastes of our trendy, discerning customers; they must have flexible features so that they can be fit to each user’s unique lifestyle needs; they must be connected, not just for connectivity’s sake, but to truly streamline and enrich the home management experience.

And of course, all of these innovations must be pursued with sustainability in mind. For home appliances, that means creating durable products with longer lifespans to reduce needless waste and developing new technologies that help consumers reduce consumption of water and energy without sacrificing performance.

This is our vision for appliances in the Bespoke Home.

Designed for You

The Bespoke Home begins with Samsung’s flagship Bespoke refrigerators, which will be expanding across global markets in 2021. This line offers personalized design, with interchangeable panels available in many colors and finishes.

The response so far to Bespoke refrigerators has been tremendous. Early adopters love that Bespoke comes in an array of changeable colors and materials that fit any interior décor. The fridges also have a sleek, flat-front design that gives them a built-in appearance.

In the U.S. this year, we are introducing the Bespoke in an all-new model, the 4-Door Flex, as well as in the 1-Door Column and the Bottom-Mount Freezer (BMF) types. With glass and steel finishes, there are eight color options. We will also be expanding our Bespoke lineup across Europe in the 1-Door and BMF models, with plans to launch in additional markets in the second half of 2021.

This year, we are also excited to introduce new and exclusive collections of our Bespoke refrigerators in collaboration with leading designers, which we plan to further discuss at our upcoming event.

But we are not stopping with the kitchen. The customizable Bespoke design philosophy is coming to appliances throughout the home – giving you more freedom to decide what your appliances will look like.

Flexible for You

An important aspect of the Bespoke refrigerator is flexibility. It has a modular design that allows you to pick and choose the size and style of the unit, as well as flexible temperature controls for different compartments that let you control how you store your food.

For the Bespoke Home, we’ve taken this central idea of flexibility and applied it to other appliances.

We know that the same chores, be it vacuuming or airing out the house or doing laundry, do not mean the same thing in every household. This is why in our Bespoke Home vision, appliances have features that can be adjusted as your household needs change.

Whether you are welcoming new members into your family, taking on a home improvement project to change out your floors or getting serious about cooking at home, we want your appliance experiences to evolve to fit your needs.

Connected for You

The Bespoke Home also includes seamless connectivity powered by IoT services, AI and automation to create customized and holistic home solutions that bring appliances together. Samsung’s SmartThings services streamline housework to let you focus on the activities you enjoy and to help you get more out of everyday home experiences.

Samsung is the only brand that can bring these fundamental changes to your home seamlessly. With our dual leadership in hardware and software and an expansive range of devices compatible with SmartThings, the possibilities for a connected home are endless.

Connecting your appliances to SmartThings is set to help your appliances cater to your own personal lifestyle, habits and preferences. Whether you want to find a recipe that works perfectly with your Samsung oven or you’re looking for the right wash cycle for a delicate garment, SmartThings will have you covered.

The services you will see at Bespoke Home 2021 are going to offer a glimpse into the future. The smart home is about more than being able to remotely turn your machines on or change their settings: we are creating services for a home that truly knows you and is customized to your interests and needs.

A New Vision for the Home

We are excited to show you the modern designs, flexible features and smart connectivity that will make up our Bespoke Home vision on May 11. We will be showcasing our existing products that have been evolved with new features and functionalities, as well as presenting some completely new products and services. In addition, we are excited to share with you our sustainability vision and goals. The world has changed so much over the past year, and it is time for our appliances to catch up. We look forward to seeing you at Bespoke Home 2021.

The holidays are hectic – dinners to plan, guests to entertain, shopping to do, lights to hang – but home doesn’t have to be. Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a leader in the connected home category, is setting out to show consumers how they can easily make their home run more efficiently this season with a few simple and smart solutions from the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem.

To show how easy it is, Samsung is working with the residents of South 13th Street in Philadelphia to help make their spectacular light display even brighter this season. Residents are using Samsung SmartThings Outlets to automate holiday indoor décor, SmartThings partner GE Z-Wave Plug-In Outdoor Smart Switches to manage outdoor lights and the Samsung SmartThings Hub to manage home settings from afar when traveling. The free SmartThings app is available on Android and iOS, and there is no monthly fee or subscription for the Samsung SmartThings devices.

“We know for many people, setting up their smart home can seem like a huge undertaking,” said Bill Lee, Vice President of Smart Home Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, Inc. “The residents of Miracle on South 13th Street in Philadelphia show that you can start small by easily integrating smart technology into existing set-ups, and then grow as your needs evolve. As lights go up and guests arrive, the holidays are a great time to start small and implement a few smart solutions to more simply manage the home and get more control over your daily routine.”

For more than a dozen years, the residents of Miracle on South 13th Street have outfitted their homes in spirited holiday décor that attracts tourists nationwide. This year, the homes will go even further with Samsung SmartThings – making holiday lights and décor easier to manage and more energy efficient. Samsung SmartThings devices conveniently add intelligence to daily routines, connecting hundreds of compatible smart products and controlling them right from a smart phone. With no monthly fees or subscription, consumers have the flexibility to grow their connected ecosystem as their needs evolve.

The Samsung SmartThings ecosystem enables consumers to simply automate their daily routines. From multipurpose sensors that help manage home heating when temperatures drop, to smart outlets turning conventional electronics into connected devices, the Hub becomes the brain connecting products to control home more conveniently from any Android or iOS mobile device. For example, install the Hub and:

Use the Samsung SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor to see if the door to the closet hiding holiday gifts has been opened by children whose curiosity has gotten the best of them.

Connect the Samsung SmartThings Arrival Sensor with a “Works with SmartThings” partner GE Z-Wave Plug-In Outdoor Smart Switch to power on outdoor holiday lights as soon you pull into the driveway.

Use the entire Samsung SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit and Water Sensor to keep tabs on your home while you’re traveling during the holiday so there are no leaky pipe surprises when you get back.

Help your holiday guests navigate your home by placing a Samsung SmartThings Motion Sensor in the hallway, triggering smart lights to illuminate the way to the bathroom when they wake late at night.

Remotely turn off devices you accidently have left on when you’re out holiday shopping.

According to Best Buy, home networking support comprises a growing portion of the five million house calls that Geek Squad agents, the nation’s largest tech support task force, make all over the U.S. every year. Local Best Buy Geek Squad agents are available to help consumers, just like the South 13th Street residents, make their most of their smart homes. For more ideas, tips and tricks, consumers can visit their local Best Buy where Geek Squad agents are at the ready.

Since its founding, SmartThings’ mission has been to deliver the easiest way to build a smart home, all the while providing users with true peace of mind anywhere, anytime. The company has continued to evolve its offerings and is now providing a new generation of products aimed at solving specific problems for everyday users via its Internet of Things (IoT) platform.

Samsung SmartThings’ new IoT product line-up, which is now available in the United States, the United Kingdom and online, includes an upgraded Hub and sensors that pair with an intuitive mobile app—everything you need to monitor, control and secure your home from the screen of your smartphone.

So what does each of these valuable devices do to make the IoT system work? Find out below.

SmartThings Hub: The Core of Connectivity

The SmartThings Hub is essentially the nervous system of the platform, as it connects all your home’s smart devices. In fact, it’s compatible with over 200 of them, from light bulbs to locks to cameras.

Once connected, the small, box-like Hub communicates between devices to ensure that the home responds appropriately to the user’s commands. Additionally, it informs the user of potential issues, such as a home intrusion or fire, as soon as—or even before—they happen.

The Hub does this by communicating with various sensors as well as with its video monitoring capability, which gives users access to a livestream of their home at any time. With this feature, SmartThings provides even more access and control against common household issues by delivering real-time text alerts and video clip notifications from cameras to the user or designated contacts via the SmartThings app.

SmartThings Sensors: Connecting Your Life

SmartThings has various sensors and power outlets available, and each offers a different but equally helpful function.

For example, the SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor can detect whether your doors, blinds and windows are left open or closed after you leave your home. If a window suddenly opens, users can signal an alarm to ward off any intruders. Forgot to close the garage door? Shut it with a tap of a button.

It can also monitor temperature, vibration and orientation to let you know if the dog gets into the garbage, your child enters a potentially dangerous area of the house or if a valuable object such as a jewellery box is moved. Simply place it next to the area to be monitored, securing it with the included adhesive strips.

For your family’s safety, the SmartThings Motion Sensor can monitor movement in your home and send you alerts if there’s unanticipated activity. In addition, it can trigger lights, thermostats and other connected devices, to turn on or adjust them when there is movement within a range of 130 feet, so you’re never left in the dark.

Keep track of your loved ones with the SmartThings Arrival Sensor. At under two inches in length, this rugged device is small enough to be placed in a child’s bag, on a keychain or around a pet’s collar and will send you a notification when your family and pets arrive or leave home. It can also be attached to the dashboard of your car so your home can quickly prepare for your arrival by switching on the interior lights when you pull into the driveway.

To prevent fires and save energy, the portable SmartThings Outlet can control and monitor lights, electronics and small appliances. It can be programmed to turn on and off automatically based on a fixed schedule or in response to other activities in your home. Use it to remotely warm up a pot roast before leaving the office or switch on a bedside lamp at the same time your alarm clock goes off in the morning.

The SmartThings Water Leak Sensor functions to detect moisture and send you alerts that could prevent a leak from becoming a flood. By placing this sensor in the basement, under an old pipe or other leak-prone areas throughout the home, you can be immediately notified if water is detected so you can act appropriately to prevent major damage.

SmartThings App: Control with a Tap

When one of these sensors has a message to relay, the SmartThings Hub will receive that message and send it to your phone via the SmartThings app. The app also allows you to send commands back to these devices, and lets the sensors talk to one another (for instance, telling a light to turn on if motion is detected).

In addition to receiving important notifications about what’s happening at home, you can control your smart devices with a simple tap and choreograph your home to react to your own personal preferences. The latest updates to the SmartThings app enable users to control their devices by room, routine or featured device via a simple, easy-to-use control panel.

SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit: An All-in-One Smart Home Solution

Just released in the United States and online, the SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit, which includes the new SmartThings Hub, two Multipurpose Sensors, a Motion Sensor and an Outlet, makes it even easier to transform your home into a smart home. By utilizing the Smart Home Monitor feature in the app, you’ll be able to receive alerts and take action whenever the devices in your Home Monitoring Kit detect unwanted entry, motion or other unexpected activities.

Select retail stores will also be selling the Samsung SmartCam HD Pro alongside the Home Monitoring Kit. By pairing the two together, you’ll have everything you need to not only receive notifications about what’s happening in your home, but to also physically see what’s going on when you’re not around. Unlike other home monitoring solutions, SmartThings only captures video clips when an unexpected event occurs, so you can maintain your privacy while having complete peace of mind.

Head over to SmartThings’ online store to get started and enjoy a new, more intelligent lifestyle both in and out of the home.
