Samsung Electronics today announced that it has launched its 3D Map View feature, which was first unveiled at CES 2024 and is now available in all countries with SmartThings access.

Map View streamlines home management by turning real floor plans into virtual images in the SmartThings app. Users can clearly see their devices and conveniently adjust lighting, temperature, air quality and energy consumption at any time and place.

Map View addresses the challenge of managing the growing number of connected devices in every home worldwide and eases smart home management by eliminating the need to find each device separately before using it. It shows users their entire home at a glance and updates in real time as more devices are connected.

Map View’s previous version was a 2D model that only worked for homes where the floor plan was provided. However, this newly updated 3D Map View takes advantage of Spatial AI in Samsung devices — such as the Bespoke Jet Bot — using LiDAR1 sensors in the device to precisely measure and map a home’s layout. Now, users can more easily understand the shape and spatial conditions of their homes on 3D maps.

The feature has also enhanced its filter function to allow for more efficient monitoring and control of required devices. It aims to offer a more customized and user-friendly smart service by using AI characters, which were also unveiled at CES 2024, by the end of the year.

Availability

Map View is available through the SmartThings app on Android and iOS mobile devices,2 as well as TVs.3 Controls for the feature will also be made available through additional hubs, such as Family Hub refrigerators,4 within the first half of the year.

Initially, Map View was rolled out in Korea and the United States last year. But now, it can be used in all countries with access to the SmartThings app.

“Samsung is constantly working to enable customers to control their home devices without any inconvenience at any time and place, and Map View is the result of these efforts,” said Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to introduce a variety of relevant services and features so our customers can enjoy optimal smart home experiences with a better life.”

Samsung is currently collaborating with construction companies to expand Map View beyond homes to apartments and office spaces. The company aims to help create smart environments for customers worldwide by adding functionality. These include an optimized user experience (UX) for large screens that assists B2B operators with signage, and Quick Control, which enables users to easily access key functions.

Samsung Electronics today announced the availability of Matter functionality, allowing for seamless device control via the SmartThings app. SmartThings hubs will receive an over-the-air update, and the SmartThings Android app will be updated to provide capability to control all Matter-compatible devices. Through this update, SmartThings users can control their Matter devices from a single application, instead of using multiple apps from different device manufacturers.

As a pioneer in the smart home industry, Samsung has been a key contributor to the development of Matter from the very beginning and was one of the first companies to receive Matter certification. Earlier this year, Samsung revealed TVs and Family Hub refrigerators that were selected to be updated to support Matter Controller functionality, simplifying experiences with both Samsung and third-party devices. In May 2022, SmartThings announced its Partner Early Access Program, the next step toward a Matter-compatible ecosystem, which granted select partners a head start in testing the Matter-supporting SmartThings hub and mobile software.

“We are now shifting from basic connectivity to building incredible experiences,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Corporate Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Matter is the future, giving consumers extensive choice and smart device compatibility at scale. Today marks the most significant milestone yet toward mass smart home adoption.”

SmartThings supports a feature called multi-admin, which allows users to control their Matter devices from multiple platforms and apps. This month, Samsung and Google announced an expanded partnership to take multi-admin support to the next level, improving interoperability and offering better user experiences. SmartThings’ open platform offers one of the largest integrated ecosystems, and Matter-certified products will be rolled out across brands including Google Nest, Eve Systems, Nanoleaf, Yale and more.

SmartThings’ Matter Controller support will begin with the second and third generations of the SmartThings Hub, as well as the Aeotec Smart Home Hub. All hubs will continue to support Zigbee, Z-Wave and Local Area Network devices, including Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and will be upgraded over-the-network to enable support for Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Thread-based Matter devices.

“We are committed to maintaining support for existing protocols while also helping the industry transition to a future built on Matter,” said Mark Tekippe, Vice President of Product at SmartThings and Connectivity Standards Alliance Board Member. “SmartThings has always provided customers with the most flexible connectivity options including Zigbee and Z-Wave. Adding support for Matter and Thread ensures SmartThings remains the most versatile ecosystem for consumers looking to build or expand their smart homes.”

Visitors can explore 15 different SmartThings scenarios, packed with features designed to enhance the lifestyles of local customers in the Middle East, such as Prayer Mode and Sandstorm Mode. Read on to learn more about the unique SmartThings scenarios for the Middle East region below.

▲ SmartThings Home Dubai is located on the first floor of the Dubai Butterfly Building, where the Samsung Electronics Middle East Headquarters and Samsung Gulf Electronics are also located.

SmartThings Home, Customized for the Culture and Climate of the Middle East

SmartThings Home Dubai is divided into four zones: Home Office, Living Room & Kitchen, Gaming and Contents Studio. Within these zones, visitors can explore 15 SmartThings scenarios. By connecting SmartThings to various Samsung devices — from mobile devices to home appliances and even display products — visitors can experience firsthand how life becomes more convenient and enjoyable.

▲The experience zones in SmartThings Home Dubai, where visitors can experience how life is enhanced with SmartThings connectivity.

SmartThings Home Dubai also features exclusive zones customized for local residents’ lifestyles, such as Prayer Mode and Sandstorm Mode. Samsung Electronics Middle East Headquarters and Samsung Research’s Samsung R&D Institute Jordan have worked together to develop these specialized scenarios specifically for consumers in the local market.

For instance, Sandstorm Mode was developed for the frequent sand and dust storms in the Middle East. During a sandstorm, simply tap one button on the SmartThings app to enjoy a clean indoor environment. When the Sandstorm Mode is activated, smart blinds block out dust from the outside, an indoor air purifier begins to run and a robot vacuum cleaner begins to tidy up the home.

▲ Activate Sandstorm Mode with the SmartThings application

Prayer Mode was developed for SALAH, which is the prayer of Muslims, observed five times every day at prescribed times. When it becomes time to pray, users will receive a notification on their smartwatch. Then, the user can activate the Prayer Mode on the SmartThings app to create an environment suitable for focusing on the prayer. Prayer Mode activates the smart blinds, adjusts the room’s lighting and turns off the TV. With SmartThings, all products at home can be activated to create an atmosphere to focus on prayer.

Members of Gen Z enjoy expressing themselves through social media — so the Contents Creation Studio in SmartThings Home Dubai was created just for them. Various devices, including smartphones, lighting and TVs, can be controlled with the touch of a button to instantly create a dedicated space optimized for content creation. This studio is open for anyone to use.

Samsung Opens the First SmartThings Experience Zone in the Middle East

The event celebrating the opening of SmartThings Home Dubai on October 6 was attended by more than 100 visitors, including the local media, partner companies, government officials and influencers.

With opening remarks from Jong-Hee Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device Experience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, the presentations revealed how Samsung is crafting systems that help make lives smarter, safer, more convenient and more connected than ever before.

▲ Attendees take their seats at SDC 2022 in anticipation of the day’s wide-ranging Keynote

Read on to see Samsung Newsroom’s recap of the innovation and inspiration revolutionizing how we live and work both now and in the future.

Opening: A Seamless, Frictionless Experience

Jong-Hee Han opened up the day’s talks by underscoring the importance of convenience in an age of brilliant yet complex technologies. “At Samsung, our goal has always been to make our lives easier through technology innovation,” said Han. “But innovation can also be burdensome for users if convenience is not at the forefront. Our teams are determined to deliver devices that are as smooth and accessible as they are advanced.”

▲ Jong-Hee Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of DX Division at Samsung Electronics, welcomes attendees to SDC 2022.

Covering everything from Calm Technology to Knox Matrix to holistic household platforms like Bixby Home Studio and SmartThings, Han outlined a device and systems ecosystem that puts the user experience at the center. “The goal of all this is to give you an easier, seamless and more frictionless experience,” Han emphasized. “So you can focus on what matters most.”

A Home That Learns and Adapts Through SmartThings

Following Jong-Hee Han, Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Mobile eXperience Business, discussed how Covid-19 galvanized teams at Samsung to prioritize the important things in life, particularly in the home. “If you’re like me, the past few years have been a time to prioritize what matters, to find moments to pause and refresh,” said Jung.

▲ Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Mobile eXperience Business, outlines how the platform is helping realize a truly seamless, intuitive household device ecosystem.

Samsung’s SmartThings platform, Jung explained, is the perfect way to do this in your home. Thanks to a wide range of improvements to the household ecosystem platform, finding, setting up, onboarding and synchronizing new devices into your household will be easier and more efficient than ever. This includes Galaxy Quick Pair, Matter Hub connectivity, SmartThings Energy and SmartThings Music Sync, as well as boosted integration with partner systems and an expanded SmartThings website.

Matter: A Truly Harmonious Household Experience

At the end of her talk, Jung introduced Matthew McCullough from Google, who provided an overview of Matter, a system that lays the groundwork for true interoperability between devices in the home. Samsung is committed to Matter integration, and confident it will make the dream of a fully integrated household a reality.

The Expanding Role of Bixby

Anil Yadav, Head of Bixby Lab at Samsung Research1 America, took to the stage to discuss SmartThings’ bespoke speech platform and de facto voice in the home, including its exciting new feature: Bixby Home Studio. “With Bixby Home Studio, you can create experiences that span multiple devices and respond more intuitively to user commands,” said Yadav. “For example, if you ask Bixby to turn on your air conditioner, Bixby can check if you have any windows open and let you know to close them, saving energy.”

▲ Voice system expert and Head of Bixby Lab Anil Yadav lays out the platform’s evolving role in the home and celebrates the launch of Bixby Home Studio.

Premium Security and Privacy for an Integrated Household

▲ Shin Baik, Principal Engineer of Security Team, Mobile eXperience Business, underscores the significance of strong security and personalized privacy, as exemplified by systems like Samsung Knox and Knox Matrix.

Samsung envisions more than just a convenient and integrated home experience. Its teams are also creating an experience that is as safe as it is smooth, as private as it is proactive. After Yadav’s Bixby talk, Shin Baik, Principal Engineer of Security Team, Mobile eXperience Business, discussed with the audience how top-notch innovations need top-notch security to go with them. Unwavering in its three security and privacy principles — transparency, choice and protection — Samsung has worked hard to develop platforms like Samsung Knox. This will keep everything from your phone to your refrigerator safe and secure, said Baik.

A new platform called Knox Matrix, in particular, is now on the frontline of multi-device protection. “Knox Matrix is your own private blockchain,” Baik explained. “Multiple devices share credentials, turning the ecosystem of devices into a shield that protects everyone.”

In step with these developments, of course, is Samsung’s insistence on a customizable privacy experience, which is provided by Samsung’s comprehensive Security and privacy dashboard. “We believe that you — and only you — should be making decisions about how your information is managed and stored,” said Baik.

A More Vibrant Content Ecosystem Than Ever

Sang Kim, Senior Vice President and Head of Product & Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, shared important insights on Samsung’s extensive media network, covering a range of recent successes.

▲ Sang Kim, Senior Vice President and Head of Product & Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, provides a roundup of Samsung’s diverse — and rapidly expanding — media network.

Samsung Gaming Hub, launched in June, is an all-in-one gaming solution that, thanks to partnerships with industry leaders like Xbox, lets players connect their controllers to Samsung TVs and access all the games they love without even needing a console or PC.

Samsung TV Plus, the FAST streaming TV and video platform that relaunched this summer, now reaches 24 countries and 465 million devices globally. It is projected to clock in an impressive three billion hours streamed by users by the end of 2022.

Thanks to broad reach, smooth monetization integration and an advertising environment optimized for both clients and users, Samsung streaming also offers an ideal platform for premium advertising.

“Today, Fortune 500 companies from around the world have leveraged Samsung TV Plus and our other advanced TV advertising solutions to reach valuable consumers,” Kim said.

Following Sang Kim, Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President and Deputy Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business, took to the stage to talk about Tizen, Samsung’s open source, Linux-backed operating system. Kim took the audience through a huge variety of developments in the Tizen journey, which is growing its capabilities to an ever-wider spectrum of uses and applications.

Leveraging partnerships with gaming leaders like Xbox, NVIDIA and Utomik, Tizen is helping bring a truly consolidated, uninterrupted gaming experience to users with Samsung Gaming Hub, with fantastic performance and image quality, Kim explained. It delivers stunning visual displays and blockchain wallet integration to Samsung TVs for better at-home art experiences, while also helping Smart Hub deliver the best in content searches and recommendations. Tizen Enterprise, meanwhile, is boosting B2B partners’ display and signage options, while Tizen Everywhere aims to expand licensing and bring the system to more countries.

“Since its launch ten years ago, Tizen now powers more than 330 million TVs, refrigerators and other smart devices,” said Kim. “At Samsung, we will continue to create Tizen experiences that transform and go beyond what many thought possible.”

A Look Over the Horizon: Robotics and Health in Tomorrow’s Homes

The final talk before the wrap-up was from Sebastian Seung, President and Head of Samsung Research. While many of the day’s talks focused on recent improvements, Seung has his eye on the innovations of tomorrow, aiming for no less than the merging of the physical and digital worlds.

“I’d like to invite you to look over the horizon, to a future dreamed of but not yet realized,” said Seung, who divided his presentation between the future of robotics in the home and Samsung’s ambitions to contribute to health & wellness research.

In the home robotics field, Seung discussed the company’s continued success with a household supported by advanced, AI-enhanced devices, including the object-detecting JetBot AI+ vacuum, the Bot Handy chore assistant prototype and even future plans for Samsung’s latest robot arm manipulation code, which will soon be available on GitHub.

▲ Sebastian Seung, President and Head of Samsung Research, discusses the company’s plans for a future where advanced robotics technologies support households and outlines Samsung’s ambitions in health & wellness research.

“I would like to talk about the future one more time,” he added. “The future of something very dear to my heart: our planet. I believe we have a responsibility to help create a sustainable future. We do that through Everyday Sustainability, a belief that every stage of the product lifecycle can be more sustainable.”

Han presented a range of Samsung sustainability commitments and environmental research directions, including responsible material sourcing, recycling, disposal, renewable energy and billions in investments toward meeting carbon emissions reductions.

“By 2027, we will run all DX operations on renewable energy,” Han said, ending the day on an optimistic note and a glimpse of a future for customers that is easier, more seamless, more frictionless and — crucially — more eco-conscious.

Samsung Electronics announced the win of 42 awards, including two Golds, five Silvers, one Bronze and 34 finalists, at the International Design Excellence Awards 2022 (IDEA 2022).

IDEA is one of the world’s most prestigious design awards programs held by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), founded in 1980, to acknowledge achievements in industrial design. This year, IDEA has chosen winners in 20 categories, including Home, Consumer Technology, Digital Interaction and Design Strategy. Key criteria for evaluation also include Design Innovation, Benefit to User, Benefit to Society and more.

Samsung’s product design reflects the company’s changing values and innovative technology. The interactive, region-specific and advanced designs were recognized to be progressive and diverse.

“It is important to provide an optimized experience for changing consumer values and lifestyles,” said Jinsoo Kim, Executive Vice President at Corporate Design Center in Samsung Electronics. “We will constantly strive to provide sustainable experiences with creative innovations for our customers.”

Bespoke Won Two Golds for Its Customizable Designs and User Experiences That Fits Different Lifestyles

The Bespoke U.S. Kitchen Package (Bespoke U.S. Kitchen Package & Bespoke FDR RF8000B), a home appliance package including refrigerator, oven-range, microwave and dishwasher available in the North America region, was one of two Gold award winners. Based on the Bespoke philosophy that caters to the preference of users, the package provides an integrated design experience that emphasizes harmony in the kitchen space.

The design of the 4-door (French door) refrigerator, newly launched in North America, maximizes convenience for consumers as it comes with replaceable door panels that owners can choose according to their preferences and lifestyles. The Beverage Center, built into the interior to minimize contamination, stores clean and purified water, and the Dual Auto Ice Maker quickly makes Cubed Ice and smaller Ice Bites.

After a long day, even an extra five minutes of sleep in the morning can feel fantastic. When you finally manage to open your eyes and start the day, that’s when the rush to get ready truly begins. After going through your morning routine, putting on clean clothes and having a hearty breakfast, before you know it, it’s time to dash out the door.

To help you get through your busy day, Samsung Electronics has put together a team. With the SmartThings app on the Galaxy Z Fold3 leading the way, Samsung’s latest washer and dryer, Neo QLED 8K and the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ are ready to team up to help you get ready.

Read on to find out how Team Samsung helps its user ‘A’, breeze through his busy morning.

Good Morning Mode Opens the Curtains and Displays the Weather

A was watching his favorite movie last night and fell asleep late. He ended up missing the alarm on his smartphone, but there’s no need to worry. All he needs to do to get ready for the day is simply unfold his Galaxy Z Fold3 and activate Good Morning Mode in SmartThings.1 Once he’s done that, the curtains that were closed so he could get a good night’s sleep automatically open up and the lights in his home switch on to help him begin his morning in a bright mood.2

One of the most important factors to consider when getting ready to go out is the weather. It’s the first thing to check before choosing your outfit and deciding whether or not to take an umbrella with you. Because Good Morning Mode displays the weather automatically through A’s Neo QLED, there’s no need to use the remote to check the weather.

A has picked out an outfit of the day that’s appropriate for the weather, but he forgot to start his laundry. Luckily, Team Samsung can select the best wash cycle and get his laundry done on time even when he’s not around.

Here’s how it works. First, open up the SmartThings app, tap on Laundry Recipe and choose the color, soil level and types of clothes you want to wash in your washer. Wash cycles will differ depending on the color and soil level of the clothes, and whether you want to wash shirts or things like socks. The feature will automatically choose the best wash cycle based on your input.

The Laundry Planner feature allows you to specify when you’d like the load to finish, so your clothes will be fully dry and looking good to go when you need them.

Whipping Up a Delicious Breakfast With SmartThings Cooking

A hearty breakfast is a must for starting off the day with lots of energy. Luckily for A, Team Samsung makes it easy to pick out a recipe for a great meal.

After receiving a recommendation on his Galaxy Z Fold3 using SmartThings Cooking, A automatically sends the recipe to the smart oven and starts cooking. When it’s all done, he can receive a notification through his Galaxy Watch, Family Hub or TV.

Forgot to Turn Off Your Lights or Devices? Don’t Worry With Away Mode

After putting on some fresh, clean clothes and finishing a delicious breakfast, it’s finally time for A to head out the door. With SmartThings’ Away Mode,3 if A realizes that he forgot to turn off a light or the TV as he’s heading out the door, he won’t need to head back inside to do so. The feature allows you to control not just the lights and the TV, but devices like robotic vacuum cleaners (RVC) as well. In addition, if you have a pet who’ll be left alone at home, SmartThings Pet4 offers peace of mind by allowing you to monitor your furry friend.

Monitoring Energy Usage With SmartThings Energy

After Team Samsung helped him get ready and he headed out the door, while on his way to his destination, A became curious about how much energy he’d been consuming this month. Once he unfolded his Galaxy Z Fold3, he accessed the SmartThings Energy5 service, which offered him detailed insights on his energy usage.

Samsung Electronics today revealed that the SmartThings Find service, which first launched in October 2020, continues to grow rapidly, now comprising more than 100 million find nodes. Powered by SmartThings, the premier technology enabling connected living, around 230,000 devices are located through this feature every day.

“We’re incredibly proud of how quickly the SmartThings Find service has grown in less than a year, helping people all over the world locate hundreds of thousands of misplaced devices every day,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “SmartThings Find is yet another example of how Samsung is continuing to create meaningful new experiences that help make life more convenient and less stressful.”

The fast-growing SmartThings Find service enables users to pinpoint registered Galaxy smartphones, smartwatches, earbuds and even S Pen Pro, as well as personal belongings—like keys or wallets—that have a Galaxy SmartTag or SmartTag+ device attached. SmartThings Find, a standout feature of the SmartThings ecosystem, uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate misplaced devices. Even if the device is offline, other Galaxy users can opt-in to enable their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others find nearby lost devices.

SmartThings Find is continuing to evolve with the addition of the newly launched SmartThings Find Members service, which now enables users to invite friends and family to become members of their SmartThings account, so they too can find and manage their devices. Users can now invite up to 19 other people to become members and locate up to 200 devices at once. Once someone has accepted your invitation to SmartThings Find Members, you can opt for them to be able to view your selected devices and locations for specific devices, all upon your consent.

SmartThings Find Members is particularly useful for families, as they try to keep up with pets or keep track of their car keys—even if they don’t have their phone with them.

There aren’t that many people who would say that floor cleaning is a beloved hobby of theirs – in fact, given half the chance, most people would instead opt for floors that clean themselves.

Until such a thing exists, the next best solution is an AI-powered robot vacuum that knows when, where and how to get the job done. Enter Samsung Electronics’ Bespoke Jet Bot AI+, a sleek and smart robot vacuum that can be programmed to clean while you are doing other things, including running errands outside the home.

What’s more, Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ can also help you monitor your pets while out and about, making it the perfect device for those leading busy lifestyles juggling work, exercise and more. If cleaning your floors is constantly ending up a low priority on your to-do list, Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ has it covered for you.

Intelligent Navigation for Smarter Floor Cleaning

Users can trust Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ because it is equipped with industry-leading object detection and recognition technologies that not only make floor cleaning more intelligent and convenient, but also more personalized and even pet-friendly.

Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ can identify and classify the objects it encounters on the floor by mapping out their location. This allows it to clean closely around your furniture, home appliances1 and items such as lamps or plants so that you don’t have to move them before starting a cleaning cycle. Furthermore, Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ can gauge if an item is fragile or delicate, like a porcelain vase,2 and maintain a safe distance from it. It can also classify if an object is dangerous, like electrical cables, and avoid them accordingly.

Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ is the world’s first robot vacuum to be powered by an Intel AI solution and equipped with an active stereo-type 3D sensor. This enables it to think and make decisions on its own and gauge the layout of your living space in order to drive more efficiently throughout your home and navigate around objects—including your pets—with no need for manual supervision.

Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ also features a LiDAR sensor much like those in self-driving vehicles to accurately track its location and optimize its cleaning path to cover more of your home so that it can pick up dirt, dust and dander in nooks that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.

Additionally, pet owners can rest easy as the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ can recognize pet excrement and will simply maneuver right around it to prevent any unwanted spreading or secondary contamination.

Personalized Cleaning at Your Fingertips

Thanks to SmartThings integration, Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ can help you with your chores even when you’re not at home. For a seamless and connected experience, the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ can be synced to your smartphone via Wi-Fi using the SmartThings app.3

The Select & Go feature allows users to easily schedule their Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ to clean remotely, and can even program it to clean specific rooms. SmartThings also lets you define virtual No-Go Zones to prevent the device from entering certain areas of your home, meaning that you don’t have to worry about your Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ falling down stairs or getting tangled in a carpet while you’re out and about.

An Extra Set of Eyes to Check In With Your Pets

When away from home, many pet parents know the feeling well of wondering what their pets are up to without them. With Bespoke Jet Bot AI+, you can check in on your pets at any time and from anywhere. The Jet Live Home Monitoring function streams a live feed from Bespoke Jet Bot AI+’s front camera via the SmartThings app and can automatically monitor the status of rooms you want to check or simply show you what your pet is doing using the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+’s patrol mode. For further peace of mind, the video clips are securely encrypted and can only be viewed by an authorized user.

It is also natural for pet owners to seek ways to better interact and care for their pets from a distance, which is why Samsung developed their SmartThings Pet service. Not only does this pet care service include the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ in its ecosystem of pet care devices, but it also makes daily routines more simple and convenient by syncing with products from PETKIT.4

For example, the PETKIT COZY smart pet house comes with its own set of sensors to adjust temperatures and track your pet’s resting patterns while offering a sense of security, while PETKIT’s Element feeder series lets you feed your pet scheduled meals (or a little treat)—all managed remotely via the SmartThings app. After all, all an owner really wants is to ensure that their beloved pets are happy and healthy.

* The new product names go into effect on July 5, 2021. This is a change to the product name only. Jet Bot AI+ will become Bespoke Jet Bot AI+.

1 Example Items include air conditioner (stand type), refrigerator, TV, washing machine/dryer, air purifier, AirDresser, sofa, bed, bookshelf, table, Bespoke (refrigerator, dishwasher), excrement, electrical cable, towel/sock, cup, glass cup, bottles, bowl, vase.

Samsung Electronics today announced the global launch of its new robot vacuum cleaner, Jet Bot AI+.* First unveiled at CES 2021, the new robot vacuum demonstrates Samsung’s leadership in offering consumers innovative and intelligent solutions to optimize home cleaning routines. It will launch in the U.S. and Europe in June, and will also be available in the Latin American, Southeast Asian and CIS regions during the second half of 2021.

“Jet Bot AI+* reflects Samsung’s ongoing dedication to creating connected appliances that deliver dynamic performance that can adapt to the varying needs of our consumers,” said Hyesoon Yang, Vice President and Head of the Customer Experience Team of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re truly excited to introduce a robot vacuum that comes with industry-leading object detection and recognition technologies. Consumers can now clean their homes more intelligently and efficiently using the AI-powered Jet Bot that makes cleaning more personalized and convenient.”

World-Class Object Recognition and AI Driving

Jet Bot AI+* is the world’s first robot vacuum that comes with an active stereo-type 3D sensor, which accurately scans a wide area1 to avoid small, hard-to-detect objects on the floor. Its 3D depth camera—equivalent to 256,000 distance sensors—can precisely detect obstacles as small2 as 1cm. This game-changing object detection can prevent the unit from getting stuck on small obstacles in its cleaning path.

Jet Bot AI+* is also the world’s first robot vacuum to be equipped with an Intel AI solution, which powers its Jet AI Object Recognition technology. The smart solution allows the robot to navigate with more accuracy by recognizing not only the objects on the floor, but also appliances and furniture.3 The robot’s smart decision-making ensures users can have their unit clean closely around items such as children’s toys while maintaining a safe distance from delicate objects like porcelain vases.4 It can also classify items such as pet excrements, glass cups and electrical cables as dangerous or likely to cause secondary contamination in order to avoid them.

Jet Bot AI+* is even equipped with a LiDAR Sensor that calculates its location precisely to optimize its cleaning path by repeatedly scanning the room5 to gather distance information. This technology works well in dark areas such as low-lit rooms or underneath furniture so the unit can cover a larger area6 with minimal blind spots.

Powerful Clean From Start to Finish

Users can clean their homes much more thoroughly with advanced technologies that enable powerful cleaning. Jet Bot AI+’s* Digital Inverter Motor maximizes the suction power for a deeper clean. And with its Intelligent Power Control function, the new robot vacuum can even identify the type of surface it needs to clean as well as the amount of dust that is on it. Using this information, the unit can automatically adjust its suction power for a more optimized cleaning session.

Jet Bot AI+* also comes with a host of hygiene-related functionalities that enable effortless floor cleaning while ensuring that dust is securely trapped and less likely to be released back into the air. Its Advanced 5 Layered Filtration system traps 99.99%7 of micro dust, including 0.5~4.2µm sized particles that easily escape. All parts and filters are washable, so they can be kept hygienic.

Jet Bot AI+* pairs with the Clean Station, which collects dirt and hair in a 2.5L dust bag and only needs to be replaced once in every one to three months.8 After cleaning, the robot vacuum automatically returns to the Clean Station, emptying itself9 using Air Pulse technology complemented by a multi-layered filtration system that traps 99.999% of fine dust,10 ensuring virtually no dust is released back into the air.

Convenient Cleaning for Hassle-Free Usability

Users can control and monitor the Jet Bot AI+* remotely using the SmartThings app11 on their smartphones. The robot vacuum can be scheduled to clean selectively in either a single room or multiple rooms with the Select & Go function. The app can also be used to custom-define virtual No-Go Zones to prevent the unit from entering certain areas without the need for physical barriers.

The smart robot also offers Bixby voice recognition capabilities,12 meaning users can use voice commands to schedule cleaning sessions, change modes or even ask for the latest information such as news or weather updates.

And with Live Cleaning Report, users can easily track the movement of their Jet Bot AI+* on a virtual map of their homes in real time. Users can see where it has cleaned, and even pause it or instruct it to stop cleaning. Once it has completed cleaning, users can check its cleaning history to see which areas have been cleaned, how long it took, and which path it followed.

Moreover, users can monitor their home remotely with the Jet Bot AI+’s* Patrol Mode, which uses the unit’s front camera to livestream video images through the SmartThings app. The Patrol Mode allows users to monitor the status of rooms they want to check while away, and even lets them enjoy this feature through scheduling. The smart unit also supports end-to-end encryption, so video clips are secure and can only be viewed by an authorized user.

Intuitive Pet Care for the Modern Pet Parent

Pet owners can take advantage of these features further with the SmartThings Pet service. Set to launch in August, SmartThings Pet allows users to check in and care for their pets even while they are away. For example, SmartThings Pet syncs with products from PETKIT, a tech company dedicated to bringing smart pet products to the market—namely its Element feeder series and the COZY smart pet house.13 By integrating pet care into its smart home ecosystem, Samsung is reimagining how consumers live and interact with their pet companions.

Samsung Electronics announced the expansion of its Galaxy Upcycling program with Galaxy Upcycling at Home, an initiative that gives new life to older Galaxy smartphones by converting them into a variety of IoT (Internet of Things) devices through a simple software update. Samsung has implemented the beta service for Galaxy Upcycling at Home in the US, the UK and Korea1 today. With Galaxy Upcycling at Home, users can easily turn their old Galaxy devices2 into smart home devices like a childcare monitor, a pet care solution and other tools that meet individual lifestyle needs.

Make Any Home a Smart Home

The Galaxy Upcycling at Home program provides enhanced sound and light-control features, by repurposing built-in sensors. Users can transform their old devices through SmartThings Labs, a feature within the SmartThings app.

Using an improved artificial intelligence (AI) solution, Galaxy devices can more accurately distinguish sounds in everyday surroundings, and users can choose to save certain sound recordings. For example, if the device detects sounds such as a baby crying, dog barking, cat meowing, or a knock, it will send an alert directly to the user’s smartphone and the user can listen to the recorded sound.

Devices can also be used as a light sensor to measure the brightness level of the room. Users can easily set the device to automatically turn on the lights or the TV through SmartThings if the room becomes darker than the preset standard of light.

For a device to continuously detect sound and light, it needs to be actively operating for long periods of time. For this reason, Samsung equipped the Galaxy Upcycling at Home upgrade with battery optimization solutions to minimize battery usage. Devices will also be able to connect effortlessly to SmartThings, allowing them to interact with countless other IoT devices in the SmartThings ecosystem.

“Smart home devices are a fast-growing trend for consumer electronics, and we believe that Galaxy devices currently not in use can play an important role in turning every home into a smart home,” said Jaeyeon Jung, VP & Head of the SmartThings team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “The program transforms Galaxy devices into SmartThings devices and demonstrates the power of our intelligent IoT platform to broaden the possibilities of what users can do with their old phones. Through Galaxy Upcycling at Home, users will have access to the complete SmartThings ecosystem, enabling them to explore broader updates and features without having to purchase a new device.”

Shaping a Sustainable Future With Repurposed Technology

“We created Galaxy Upcycling at Home to enable more people to repurpose their old devices into useful tools, allowing both Samsung and our users to be mindful of the impact we have on the environment,” said Sung-Koo Kim, VP of the Sustainability Management Office, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are rethinking how we use existing resources, and we believe the key to upcycling is to enable solutions that transform old technology into something new by adding value. We are committed to integrating sustainable practices into our day-to-day lives, and through Galaxy Upcycling at Home, users can join our journey toward a more sustainable future.”

This innovative solution is part of Samsung’s continued commitment to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a global blueprint for the world to achieve a more sustainable and prosperous future for all by 2030 through 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Galaxy Upcycling at Home specifically focuses on Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production – by reducing waste and promoting more sustainable production practices and consumer behaviors.

Today, Galaxy Upcycling at Home provides a wide array of new solutions that help make everyday life a little easier while promoting more sustainable habits that benefit the planet. By offering consumers a way to upcycle their products with new features and alternative purposes, Samsung is helping to extend the lifecycle of its products while diverting its users from contributing to global e-waste.

Samsung is building environmental sustainability into everything we do. This includes taking dedicated action across every stage of the product lifecycle to help the world transition to a circular economy that makes greater use of sustainable materials, extends product longevity and reuses resources. Through programs like Galaxy Upcycling, Samsung intends to deliver innovative technologies that reshape consumer experiences while empowering them to play a part in sustainable practices.

1 Availability may vary by carrier.

2 Galaxy Upcycling at Home feature is available on all S, Note, and Z series released from 2018 (S9, Note9 or later) running Android 9 and above. More devices will be supported in the future.

Samsung Electronics today announced that the company’s recently launched SmartThings Find ecosystem is continuing to grow rapidly, now comprising more than 70 million helper devices. The service also continues to evolve with enhanced privacy features and voice command updates. The updates, which include the ability to detect unknown Galaxy SmartTags in your vicinity and the use of Bixby to conveniently find your belongings, enable you to have more control of your connected items from the SmartThings app.

SmartThings Find Becomes One of the Fastest-Growing Location Services

SmartThings Find,1 one of the standout features of the SmartThings ecosystem, enables Galaxy users to locate registered Galaxy smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and earbuds quickly and easily using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies. It can also help find personal items such as keys, bags and bicycles that have one of Samsung’s small, Bluetooth-powered Galaxy SmartTag devices attached.

SmartThings Find users can help others find lost or misplaced items by opting in via the SmartThings app.2 Since its launch in October 2020, more than 70 million devices have been registered and with a quick consent, 700 million Galaxy users can participate in the SmartThings Find network, making it one of the fastest-growing location services in the world.

SmartThings Find Is Enhanced With New Safety and Convenience Features

In addition to its device expansion, people are increasingly using SmartThings Find to keep tabs on their most important possessions. In fact, over half of Galaxy SmartTag users attach it to their house keys or car keys, closely followed by backpacks, wallets and bicycles. Now, beginning next week, Galaxy users will benefit from two new SmartThings Find features that will not only make finding these items more convenient, but will also give them peace of mind when it comes to their safety.3

First, users will now be able to use Bixby4 for convenient hands-free, voice-activated Galaxy SmartTag searches. Users can easily and quickly find their belongings by calling out the SmartTag’s name to Bixby; for instance, if the user asks “Hi Bixby, where’s my bike?” Bixby will immediately find and share its exact location by ringing it.

In addition, the new Unknown Tag Search feature can detect a Galaxy SmartTag that doesn’t belong to you is moving along with you. With the press of a start button, Unknown Tag Search will scan for unknown SmartTags and provide a list to ensure nobody is secretly tracking your location.

As a reminder, all SmartThings Find user data is encrypted and securely protected through a randomized private ID, which changes every 15 minutes, ensuring that the device’s location is not revealed to anyone except its owner.

The SmartThings Ecosystem Is Continuing to Evolve

SmartThings Find is just one feature of the ever-expanding, trusted SmartThings ecosystem, which has deepened its capabilities and evolved into an IoT service across Galaxy smartphones and tablets, Samsung TVs and home appliances.

In select markets, SmartThings has expanded beyond popular uses like Smart Home controls or Smart Car features, to analyze users’ electricity usage patterns and recommends more energy-efficient control options for connected devices.5 In addition, SmartThings Air helps monitor the surrounding environments’ air quality by automatically recommending adequate settings for air purifiers.6

“Samsung is proud that SmartThings has become an industry-leading ecosystem,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are just beginning to scratch the surface of its potential and cannot wait to unveil more in the near future.”

For more information about the SmartThings app and SmartThings Find service, please visit: www.samsung.com/smartthings.

1 Requires initial setup on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone running Android 8.0 or higher & RAM of 2.0GB or above and opt-in for location tracking through the SmartThings Find service of the SmartThings app.

2 Once you report your tag as missing in SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy device that has opted in will alert the SmartThings server about its location and you will receive a notification. All data in SmartThings Find is encrypted and protected, so the tag’s location isn’t revealed to anyone but you.

3 Requires the latest version of the SmartThings app, which will be released on a rolling basis via the Samsung Galaxy Store and Google Play Store, starting from next week.

4 Supported on Galaxy smartphones running Android 8.1 or higher.

5 Availability may vary by market. Please consult your device’s capabilities for more details.

Last year, more than 7 out of 10 TVs sold by Samsung Electronics in the global TV market were ‘smart TVs.’ According to market researcher IHS Markit, the smart TV sales in the global market has exceeded 60 percent, which is a significant leap from 35 percent in 2013, demonstrating the growing demand for easy and convenient smart functions.

Samsung Electronics is leading the change by strengthening the intelligent function of its 2018 QLED TVs with artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). This year’s QLED TVs have dramatically simplified the consumer process for utilizing their TV, from the first set-up to connection with other devices. What’s more, the TVs are now able to share content with, and control, connected devices. These are the result of Samsung’s efforts to innovate the user experience based on the company’s understanding of consumer usage and by incorporating the intelligent assistant Bixby and the SmartThings IoT platform.

Effortless Set-up

The first step, of course, is to get the system set up – by taking just a few simple steps. When setting up for the first time, the TV will automatically connect to a user’s Samsung smartphone, or any mobile device with the SmartThings app installed, and take the user to the set-up step. The network information on the user’s smartphone will be shared, instantly connecting the TV to the Wi-Fi network it is connected to. If the user’s mobile is already linked to a Samsung Account, that information will also be shared with the TV.

Users can also select their apps of choice from their smartphones to enjoy them on Smart TV, and their favorites can also be added to the launcher for easy access. Once set up is complete, users won’t have to worry about it again. Unlike in the past where users had to sign in to each app on the TV, the Effortless Login feature will share and store the login information from a users’ mobile in the 2nd half of this year. The QLED TV allows users to instantly access their favorite social networking or music streaming apps.

IoT Devices Connected by a Single App

According to a survey by business solution provider CSG, 9 out of 10 consumers already own IoT devices, and half of consumers expect IoT to make tasks easier around the home. But, the process of connecting the TV to the peripherals tends to be a hassle for many. The 2018 QLED TV has tackled such challenges once and for all with ‘SmartThings,’ an integrated IoT platform that’s available now.

Users can run the SmartThings app on their smartphone and click ‘Add Device’ to automatically find all the IoT devices in the house that users can connect to. When turned on, SmartThings detects IoT devices at home ranging from traditional home appliances like washing machines and air conditioners to baby-cam, lights, doorbell, and locks. Device information in these connected homes can be viewed at a glance on the TV using the SmartThings Dashboard. The TV immediately becomes the control tower of the living room. Users can, for example, operate the air conditioner after checking the home temperature. Or check the remaining laundry time on the washing machine. Users can also choose to charge or run the PowerBot robot cleaner, and take a look at what ingredients are in the Family Hub refrigerator.

TV has made it easier than ever to review the pictures and videos taken on a smartphone through the Gallery app. Photos and video clips can be uploaded on Samsung Cloud which is connected to the user’s Samsung account, ready to be viewed on a big screen. When you take a picture on your mobile while you are traveling, you can immediately share your memories with your family as soon as a notification is uploaded to the TV. The Gallery app enables users to share the same content on the family hub.

The QLED TV will play the role of a special mediator in the living room to help family members communicate easily on a deeper level.

No More Multiple Remote Controls. Just Speak to Bixby.

The QLED TV has been equipped with ‘One Remote Control’ function which can control various peripherals with one remote control. In particular, this year, it supports not only game consoles, OTT (Over the Top) boxes and speakers, but also audio products connected with optical cables.

Bixby Voice also helps make navigating the QLED TV easier. By pressing and holding the remote control voice recognition button, it is possible to search content as well as set up a TV without having to operate it several times. It is a strength that users can find various VOD (Video on Demand) contents such as Amazon, Hulu, and HBO as well as the contents of the set-top box. Users can also get additional information like the soundtrack while watching TV. For example, say “What is this song” to find out what music is playing in the background.

Also, devices connected on SmartThings are voice-controlled. With Bixby, users can have a home IoT experience where everything flows smoothly.

“This year’s smart features of QLED TV have made it easier for users to enjoy the TV experience more conveniently.” said Heeman Lee, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business. “We will realize home IoT that changes the lifestyle by various connected devices communicating organically.”

In its debut exhibition at the biennial EuroCucina 2018, Samsung Electronics showcased its full range of premium built-in appliances that bring benefits to consumers through cutting-edge designs and heightened connectivity. The event took place at the Salone del Mobile, Milan, April 17-22, where more than 300,000 visitors were expected to attend.

Last year Samsung’s European home appliances business grew five times faster than the market. As a result of this momentum, Samsung participated in EuroCucina 2018, a showcase for new trends, designs and technologies for European kitchens.

The European built-in market is worth $18.5 billion annually, accounting for 40% of the global built-in market. Samsung’s premium built-in appliances, equipped with and IoT technology, are positioned at the center of the market. The opportunity to experience the kitchen of the future at the Samsung booth attracted the attention of many visitors at the exhibition.

Consumer-Led Innovations

Samsung displayed its full built-in product lineup at EuroCucina. The range included its Twin Cooling Plus technology refrigerator, Virtual Flame cooktop and Waterwall dishwasher. The company also unveiled the new Dual Cook Flex oven at the event.

The Dual Cook Flex zone highlighted how the oven can adapt to the needs of its users. Its innovative Dual Cook technology, for example, allows independent access to the upper oven compartment without compromising on cooking performance in the lower compartment. With research indicating that European oven users are cooking multiple dishes simultaneously three times a week on average, the oven’s Dual Cook system allows users to set different temperatures and time settings for each compartment, giving them greater control over simultaneous cooking.

Dual Cook Flex offers a range of IoT features. Consumers can remotely preheat, monitor and control the oven from anywhere with the SmartThings app. What’s more, the Cooking Guide makes setting recommendations based on ingredients and type of food being prepared.

The booth also demonstrated how Samsung’s industry-first innovations in the home appliance market provide a seamless experience and make a real difference in the kitchen. Samsung’s Twin Cooling Plus technology, which independently controls the refrigerator and freezer, was showcased in a transparent display to best illustrate how the system works. There were also zones exhibiting the Virtual Flame cooktop, an induction stove that mimics the appearance of flames to provide more intuitive visual control over the heat, and the WaterWall dishwasher that delivers remarkable cleaning results with a streaming wall of water.

Seamless Kitchen Connectivity

As people spend more of their time at home in the kitchen, and the space fulfills more roles than ever before, smart technology has become increasingly more important. Yet digitization of the kitchen has been slower than other key spaces of the home.

In addition to exhibiting the IoT capabilities of the Dual Cook Flex oven, Samsung demonstrated the seamless connectivity of key home IoT products at EuroCucina 2018.

On display was the latest generation of Family Hub integrated with SmartThings, Samsung’s IoT platform, which offers seamless connectivity between any IoT device using one app and a single cloud that manages all your devices. The smart refrigerator provides a center point for connecting all devices in the home, and is equipped with features such as Bixby, Meal Planner, Shopping List and Recipes to enhance your smart cooking experience.

Recent strides towards connectivity and innovation have resulted in 90 percent of Samsung products, including smartphones and TVs, being IoT-applicable. Thanks to the company’s collaborative efforts based on the Open Connectivity Foundation, the SmartThings ecosystem is operable and compatible with even more devices and brands.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that all our products are not only IoT ready, but also intelligent by 2020,” said HS Kim, President and CEO of Samsung’s Consumer Electronics Business, at the press conference on April 18th.

Stylish Built-in Design

With premium designs such as Samsung’s black stainless-steel built-in packages, the exhibit modeled the streamlined look of the modern kitchen, which couples elegant design with intelligent technology.

Based on a philosophy of thoughtful design, today’s kitchen embraces simplicity, timelessness and an aesthetic that emphasizes minimalism while maximizing usability. This “Flat Design” favors clean lines, hidden displays and seamless integration. Samsung’s built-in appliances, such as its premium flat design refrigerators, have a precision engineered flat face which sits flush to the counter front.

Samsung Electronics acquired the luxury US built-in brand ‘Dacor’ in 2016 and has worked with various other partners, such as Nolte in Germany, Scavolini and Veneta Cucine in Italy to increase the competitiveness of premium built-in appliances as part of the company’s commitment to ‘bring the kitchen to life’. As well as displaying the ‘Dacor Modernist Collection’, Samsung also collaborated with numerous European luxury brands such as Nolte at this exhibition. Amongst these designs, the Dacor built-in refrigerator, which imbues a sense of luxury with its porcelain inside, has attracted significant attention.

Integrating smart technology with appliances and pursuing further innovations will transform the way we cook and interact in the kitchen, as Samsung aims to provide a more seamless, connected experience throughout the home.

Samsung Electronics today announces its first participation in the biennial EuroCucina 2018 in Milan, as part of its commitment to strengthening its presence in the European market. Samsung’s exhibit aims to elevate the company’s brand image and reputation among consumers in the region with products that make a real difference to consumers’ lives.

“We’re very pleased to be showcasing our latest appliances here at EuroCucina in Milan for the first time,” said BK Kang, Samsung Electronics’ Executive Vice President, Head of Global Sales & Marketing, Digital Appliances Business. “We hope our participation at EuroCucina signals our dedication to providing innovative home appliances that bring kitchens to life and give consumers real benefits they can experience every day.”

Consumer-centric Innovation with New Dual Cook Flex

Samsung is introducing its full built-in product lineup at EuroCucina, and among the range of unparalleled kitchen solutions is the brand new Dual Cook Flex oven. Its EU-industry-first innovation “Flexible Door” gives consumers independent access to the upper oven compartment without losing heat and compromising cooking performance in the lower compartment. The upper and lower compartments can even be used as one bigger compartment for large dishes by removing the divider.

Dual Cook Flex also makes it easier to prepare multiple dishes using the Dual Cook system. Consumers can set two different temperatures and times for each compartment to achieve the best taste possible during simultaneous cooking. The Dual Cook also prevents odor mixing between compartments, ensuring optimal cooking performance. Enabling consumers to use the upper compartment only, the Dual Cook also enhances energy efficiency by cutting down preheating time and overall energy usage.1

Dual Cook Flex offers a range of smart features for optimized cooking. For example, consumers can conveniently start preheating the oven and remotely monitor and control cooking conditions while on the go via the SmartThings app. In addition, the Cooking Guide recommends the best cooking mode, temperature, and cooking time based on the ingredients and type of food being made.

Samsung’s QLED TVs, which introduced the world’s first cadmium-free Quantum Dot technology, were unveiled at a First Look event in New York on March 7. The 2018 QLED TVs feature improved picture quality, design, connectivity and intelligence, creating a truly limitless TV.

To create even more stunning picture quality, the TVs feature new Direct Full Array backlighting technology that ensures that the screen is illuminated accurately. This reduces blooming and halo effects and enables deeper contrast, with inky blacks and brilliant whites. Advanced Anti-reflection technology ensures that the TVs’ spectacular picture quality can be enjoyed from almost any angle, and also helps boost contrast. Aligned with the new products, which include models wider than 75 inches, Q Engine technology automatically upscales on-screen content to UHD levels to further enhance viewers’ immersion.

Samsung’s 2018 QLED TVs’ style changes based on innovative technologies are also noticeable. Ambient Mode is an energy-saving function that allows the TV to elegantly display images as well as real-time information such as the weather or news. Samsung has also introduced a simple solution to eliminate cable clutter, called the One Invisible Connection, which integrates power cables and data lines that were previously separated to allow the TVs to harmonize with their surrounding aesthetic.

Samsung’s intelligence platform, Bixby, is making its TV debut in the 2018 QLED lineup. Bixby1 allows users to use their voice to ask Bixby a question, issue a command, and activate a range of useful functions including simple controls over their TV and smart home appliances. The new QLED TVs are also designed to seamlessly connect with SmartThings-compatible devices to offer users even greater control over their home’s smart technology. In addition, the TVs’ Universal Guide service curates content from the TV and connected sources to offer users a customized viewing experience that they can enjoy at any time.

Check out the infographic below to learn all about the 2018 QLED TV lineup’s exciting new features.

Samsung Electronics today unveiled its 2018 home entertainment lineup at the company’s First Look in New York event. Samsung highlighted details about its flagship QLED TV models and its expanded lineup of UHD, Premium UHD and Ultra-Large Screen TVs. With groundbreaking design elements, enhanced picture quality, and intuitive smart capabilities, Samsung’s 2018 QLED line empowers consumers to enjoy content without distractions – even when viewers are not actively watching.

“Our 2018 lineup of televisions are truly our most innovative and sophisticated yet, designed for today’s consumer who is mindful of the aesthetics of their space,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are excited for consumers to experience our new TV lineup and features that offer more freedom to decide where and how the TV can be best enjoyed within the home.”

Samsung’s 2018 line features new innovations that enrich the lives of consumers by reimagining how TV integrates into the living room, how consumers enjoy their content, and how they interact with their devices.

Highlights of the 2018 lineup include:

Ambient Mode

Ambient mode provides useful information throughout the day – even when consumers aren’t actively watching movies and TV. It can play music as well as display news headlines, traffic reports, and weather updates. For wall-mounted TVs, Ambient Mode can mimic the pattern on the wall behind the TV to create an astonishing visual effect in which the TV blends seamlessly into the wall.

One Invisible Connection*

The new One Invisible Connection is one slim cable that combines both consumer’s power and AV data to the TV. Available up to 15 meters, it frees consumers from having to place their TV near data or power outlets.

Smart TV, Featuring Bixby

The QLED line’s smart capabilities offer revolutionary ways to set up the TV and find content. Effortless Login uses the new SmartThings app* to drastically reduce the time it takes to set up a new TV. The new Universal Guide enables consumers to navigate across supporting streaming services and live TV through one intuitive menu. And with Samsung’s intelligence platform, Bixby,** consumers can use voice commands to bring up their favorite shows and control compatible devices.

Direct Full Array

The Q8F and Q9F QLED TVs deliver stunning images with pristine contrast through Direct Full Array (DFA) technology. Direct Full Array uses a panel with zones of smartly controlled backlighting that adjust automatically to deliver deep blacks and pure whites.

Audio Lineup

Samsung offers four new audio products that offer clear and immersive sound tailored to the different ways that individual consumers set up and use their home theater systems.

HW-K950: With front-firing, up-firing and new side-firing speakers, the HW-K950 Dolby AtmosÒ soundbar creates an extraordinary cinematic experience that delivers 7.1.4 surround sound.

HW-N650: Designed for gamers, the HW-N650 soundbar features Acoustic Beam Technology that puts consumers at the center of the action.

HW-NW700: The HW-NW700 soundbar features a wall-mounted design that perfectly complements QLED TVs so that they both blend beautifully into any home environment.

VL550: The VL550 includes a unique metal dial that consumers can attach to any metallic surface and use to control music with the sound of their voice.

Samsung Electronics, the leading global TV manufacturer for the 13th consecutive year, today launched its flagship line of 2018 QLED TVs and AV products at the 2018 First Look New York event at the American Stock Exchange building in Manhattan. The company unveiled its next generation of QLED TVs to about 1,000 attendees, and demonstrated new, improved features that enhance the TV-viewing experience like never before.

During the keynote presentation, Samsung Electronics President of Visual Display Jong-hee Han and other Samsung executives explained how the 2018 flagship TV line offers an unmatched home entertainment experience, meant to remove barriers to setting up and displaying the TV and streamlining access to content in a way that enables consumers to spend more time doing the things they love.

“With our 2018 TV lineup, we are changing the definition of visual display to Intelligent Displays,” said President Jonghee Han. “Designed for total immersion and to enhance the daily lives of consumers everywhere, all while being incredibly easy to use, the new QLED TV lineup provides users with the best viewing experience.”

President Han was joined on stage by executive partners from The New York Times, who discussed some of the new consumer benefits of the 2018 QLED TV lineup. In announcing a new partnership with Samsung, Mark Thompson, President and Chief Executive Officer of The New York Times Company, said, “QLED TV’s Ambient Mode is an exciting new way for viewers to experience The Times’s unrivaled, deeply reported and visual journalism.”

The First Look New York event featured an exhibition for guests to experience the 2018 product line and its features hands-on through a series of zones and displays. The exhibition included:

The large-screen zone, which showcased the stunning picture quality of Samsung’s new line-up with enhanced color and contrast for a variety of situations, such as gaming and watching movies or sports. Samsung also displayed its acclaimed 146” The Wall, Micro LED technology-based modular screen, to be commercialized for home use.

The movie zone featured Samsung’s multi-dimensional N950 soundbar with Dolby Atmos®, slated to become available later this year. The soundbar demonstrates how vibrant, powerful surround sound can enhance the home entertainment experience.

The Ambient Mode zone showcased how the QLED TV redefines what it means to be “off” with new technology that transforms the TV into a beautifully functional screen which provides a multitude of information including news, weather and traffic, and which can also play music or completely blend into the wall behind it.

The new 5-meter (included with QLED TV purchase) and 15-meter (available as an option) One Invisible Connection, with power cord and data cables merged into one durable cord – an industry first – enabling users to place the TV where they want, how they want, without a tangled mess of cords.

Samsung’s 2018 Smart TV set-up is simple and can be done on the consumer’s most used device – their mobile phone, via the SmartThings app. Demonstrations also illustrated how consumers can use their voices to control their entertainment and viewing with the introduction of Bixby on Samsung’s TVs.

The 2018 QLED line will be available this month in the US. For more information, visit www.samsung.com.

In addition to introducing exciting new ways for users to capture memories, multitask and enjoy dynamic entertainment, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ offer seamless controls over the wide range of IoT devices that are united by Samsung’s SmartThings app. Let’s take a look at how this powerful combination simplifies users’ connected lives.

What is the SmartThings App?

Available in March, the new SmartThings app places controls for a wide ecosystem of compatible smart devices in one simple and consistent interface, making it easy to manage every facet of your connected lifestyle, whether it be at home, at the office or on the go.

The SmartThings app was designed to remove the complicated steps that are often required to complete everyday tasks and chores, and does so by fostering seamless interactions between a household’s IoT technologies. The new app unites the previous SmartThings app with existing Samsung IoT applications, including Samsung Connect, Smart Home and Smart View, to allow for consistent experiences across SmartThings-compatible devices.

The list of compatible devices is ever-growing, and, as announced at CES 2018 earlier this year, includes Samsung’s latest Family Hub refrigerators and Smart TVs.

The Perfect Pair

Together, the SmartThings app and the Galaxy S9 offer users all the tools they need to keep their household running smoothly, and streamline how they connect and share with one another to enjoy content.

The app transforms the Galaxy S9 into a universal control for a wide range of devices, allowing users to use their smartphone to, for instance, see who’s at the front door through their connected doorbell, check what’s in their Family Hub fridge when planning for dinner, and receive real-time notifications when their laundry is finished or the floors need to be vacuumed*.

The Galaxy S9’s camera was designed to revolutionize how we capture the millions of unforgettable moments that occur in our everyday lives. When paired with SmartThings, the camera presents users with a fun and dynamic way to enhance how they share those moments, allowing them to easily send incredible photos and videos captured with their Galaxy S9 directly to their or others’ Samsung Smart TVs, Family Hub fridges, or other compatible displays by connecting the devices to their Samsung account.

Speaking of Samsung’s Smart TVs, thanks to their SmartThings integration, setting up the displays couldn’t be simpler. The app allows you to effortlessly transfer login information, as well as your favorite apps, directly from your Galaxy S9 to your new TV. So you can start enjoying a more streamlined and personalized content-viewing experience as soon as you turn it on.

From streamlining daily tasks to helping families share special moments, the Galaxy S9 and SmartThings make it easy for households to simplify how they manage their smart devices, and their connected lives**.

*Subject to connected devices’ compatibility and specifications

**The SmartThings app will be available to download on all compatible devices in the coming months

***All functionality, features, specifications and other product information provided in this document including, but not limited to, the benefits, design, pricing, components, performance, availability, and capabilities of the product are subject to change without notice or obligation.
