Samsung Electronics today introduced a new Samsung Health Software Development Kit (SDK) Suite. Designed to better support developers and researchers in creating innovative healthcare solutions, the SDK Suite leverages Samsung’s advanced sensor technology and comprehensive Samsung Health platform. The new complete package of sensor, data, accessory and research stack components is now readily accessible to an expanded range of partners, developers and researchers.

Sensor SDK: Fueling Health Services Development Through Advanced Sensor Technology

The Sensor SDK provides developers with Samsung’s powerful BioActive Sensor algorithm on the Galaxy Watch, empowering them to explore new sectors of health services and create advanced new solutions. The BioActive Sensor measures a diverse range of health metrics including heart rate, skin temperature, electrocardiogram (ECG) and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). A notable update features continuous access to Photoplethysmogram (PPG) Infrared (IR) and Red LED sensor data for the first time. This advancement will help enhance health services related to blood oxygen level (SpO2) to improve sleep quality and beyond. The upgraded BIA now provides additional measurements — magnitude and degree — expanding on the existing eight indicators, including skeletal muscle mass and body fat mass, to present more precise body composition analysis to offer deeper insights into overall physical health.

Data SDK: Comprehensive Health Insights Unlock New Value in Health Services

Starting from October, the newly added Data SDK enables developers to utilize integrated health data gathered from diverse devices such as Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Ring, smartphones or even third-party devices to create innovative digital health solutions. Data SDK provides access to health metrics on the Samsung Health app — including sleep, exercise, blood pressure, food intake and blood glucose levels — analyzed by its advanced algorithm. These streamlined insights generated by Samsung Health enable developers to enhance their productivity when developing the healthcare services.

Accessory SDK: Holistic Health Insights From Various Health Devices in One Place

With Accessory SDK, developers can integrate compatible third-party heath devices — such as blood pressure monitors, fitness devices like bike sensors, heart rate monitors and even glucose monitors — through the Samsung Health app. This makes it easy to view health status information in one place without activating separate third-party apps, promoting a seamless and simplified experience and expanding the ecosystem for end-to-end health management.

Research Stack: Empowering Research Institutions to Further Support the Healthcare Industry

Research Stack is an open-source project that aims to expand the digital health research ecosystem. Research Stack creates a flexible and versatile research environment, by providing not only the mobile and wearable app SDK but also web portal and backend services, to support all stages of the research process, from recruitment and surveys to progress tracking and results monitoring. The recently updated Research Stack boasts a comprehensive toolset developed based on valuable feedback from research institutions and their experiences implementing complex, large-scale studies. Additionally, the forthcoming 2.0 version will directly integrate Sensor SDK and Data SDK from the Health SDK Suite. Research Stack has already been used by leading institutions as part of their research and discovery processes, underscoring Samsung’s active support for the healthcare industry, providing researchers with more efficient studies and meaningful results.

Samsung showcased its latest innovations and technical advancements, highlighting its vision for an intelligent health platform through connected care centered around the home and its Software Development Kit (SDK). Over 200 attendees from healthcare companies, medical institutions, investments firms and more participated in the event. Panel discussions explored the role of AI in healthcare, while executives from companies specializing in comprehensive health management, including sleep health, fitness, medical AI and glucose monitoring, shared their experiences partnering with Samsung, emphasizing the potential for collaboration to drive advancements in digital healthcare.

Attendees were also impressed to see the highly anticipated Galaxy Ring, expected to be launched in the second half of this year.

Apps already available in the Tizen store, as well as new apps, can be entered to win. The winners will be notified on the 10^th of each month starting on March 10, 2017 and ending on November 10, 2017.

Samsung Electronics publically released its Smart TV Software Development Kit (SDK) Preview UI guide on June 30, 2016, securing developer content exposure and expanding the consumer’s single access experience. Previously, the Smart TV SDK Preview UI was only available to a limited number of applications from a select group of partners.

The Smart TV SDK is used by developers to write applications for Samsung Smart TV’s Tizen TV OS platform, and the Preview UI guide serves as an important function for the single access content experience.

“Continuing Samsung’s commitment to our consumers and developers, we’ve decided to open the Smart TV SDK preview guide,” said WonJin Lee, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to provide more access and additional content as we strive to expand our smart TV application ecosystem.”

Moving forward, anyone can develop an application with the Smart TV SDK Preview UI, giving the consumer a better single access content experience through a wider range of applications. Additionally, with preview functions, developers are given the opportunity to get more exposure and promote their services through Samsung’s Smart TV’s Smart Hub home screen.

Samsung Printing Solutions has released the V.1.5.0 update for its Smart UX Center Software Development Kit (SDK), adding new features including mobile compatibility to its versatile software tools.

Samsung’s Smart UX Center SDK debuted in 2015. It is an open interface for the Android-based Smart UX. The kit provides a comprehensive suite of features and tools that allow app developers to integrate a wide range of printer functions into an easy-to-use user interface (UI).

With the new update, Samsung has expanded the accessibility and usability of the Smart UX Center SDK, bringing it to smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.

We’re pleased to present the next phase of the smart office by bringing mobile technology to our Smart UX Center SDK for our multi-functional printers.” said David SW Song, Senior Vice President of Printing Solutions Business at Samsung Electronics-. “The Smart UX Center SDK mobile version should also expand the range of Android-based applications built by third-party developers.”

As well as mobile support, the new Smart UX Center update offers card reader support. This new feature allows multi-function printers (MFPs) to check on the availability of human interface device (HID) card reader devices, and provides information for authentication.

The new software update also comes with a style guideline for the Smart UX Center, enabling developers to gain better access to Samsung’s design resources when creating applications. In addition, counter and proxy network information have also been updated.

Samsung’s Smart UX Center is an Android-based touchscreen control panel for Samsung’s MFP printers, including the MultiXpress and ProXpress series. The UX Center enables users to copy, scan and print using applications and widgets.

Samsung Electronics announced that it will hold a new free webinar for developers of printing apps, giving them a head start when working with the latest Software Development Kit (SDK) for Samsung’s Smart UX Center. The webinar will take place at 3:30pm GMT on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, on the Samsung WebEx portal website. The Smart UX Center is an Android-based printing user interface that allows users to customize document management and output functions according to their specific needs. The Smart UX Center can be used in the Smart MultiXpress series, Samsung’s flagship multifunction printer range.
