The Galaxy Tab S6 is the latest in Samsung Electronics’ innovative tablet range, packed with intuitive and high-performing features to help you do more. For the first time on a tablet, users of the Galaxy Tab S6 are able to enjoy content and media like never before, as it has become the world’s first tablet to receive the HDR10+1 certification and support next-generation high dynamic range (HDR) video.

The Galaxy Tab S6 has achieved the esteemed HDR10+ certification after extensive quality testing, marking the first time the official HDR10+ logo certification standard has been applied to a tablet. The next-generation open standard for HDR video, HDR10+ optimizes brightness levels to deliver a truly immersive viewing experience, letting users enjoy content exactly as a creator intended it to be seen.

Going even further than static HDR10, which enhances the color and contrast of media, HDR10+ applies dynamic tone mapping to each specific scene, continuously fine-tuning settings as content plays to create richer, more vivid color, and better light and shadow detail. For the very first time on a tablet, HDR10+ is now available for users of the Galaxy Tab S6.

An HDR10+ certification makes for a truly immersive viewing experience, and combined with the Galaxy Tab S6’s Super AMOLED display, plus AKG and Dolby Atmos® sound, users are able to live and breathe the action when enjoying their favorite media, viewing their creative portfolio or catching up on their favorite television shows. With the Galaxy Tab S6, users can enjoy their favorite content in HDR10+ from Amazon Prime Video in stunning, state-of-the-art detail, just as it was intended to be seen.

The Galaxy Tab S6 is not the first device in Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem to be leading the industry in terms of immersive screen quality; earlier this year, the Galaxy S10 became the first mobile device to support mobile HDR10+ and the Galaxy Note10 also received the HDR10+ certification. With this latest announcement, Samsung Electronics continues its commitment to developing displays that constantly raise the bar and provide users with the best-possible viewing experience yet.

1 HDR10+ is a next-generation open standard for high dynamic range (HDR) video.

Featuring a sleek and seamless design, top-of-the-line multimedia features, a redefined S Pen and a slew of convenient enhancements, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3 offers users premium performance and entertainment.

A Signature Design

The Galaxy Tab S3’s minimal and refined design was achieved by affixing glossy, reinforced glass panels to an aluminum frame, resulting in a seamless aesthetic.

The tablet is available in a choice of either understated silver or black, to suit the refined tastes of modern millennials, and its soft-colored cover accessories, available in black, white and green, feature powdery matte finishing to complete the device’s stylish look.

Advanced Audio, Video and Gaming

Samsung optimized the Galaxy Tab S3’s entertainment features with a series of first-of-their-kind enhancements affecting everything from the device’s audio, video and gaming capabilities to its new and improved battery and cameras.

The tablet’s 9.7-inch, Super AMOLED screen, image-optimizing mDNle technology, speedy and efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM allow users to enjoy content in lifelike HDR, as well as 4K, wherever they go. The Galaxy Tab S3 also supports fast charging, and offers a stout 12 hours of video playback when fully charged. In addition, the device’s upgraded 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras ensure crisp and clear photos.

Of course, properly enjoying great video requires excellent sound, which is why the Galaxy Tab S3 features Quad Stereo-Sound Speakers. This is the first Samsung tablet to boast such a design, which places powerful speakers crafted by AKG by Harman in each corner of the device. The speakers’ ‘Auto Rotate Stereo’ function allows the tablet to redirect sound based on its orientation, creating a more accurate and consistent listening experience.

Gaming on the tablet has been taken up a notch, thanks to a streamlined UX and the addition of a new Game Launcher. The latter features options to help users get more out of their gaming experience, allowing them to optimize their device’s battery to lengthen a gaming session, live broadcast their gaming, and turn off notifications with ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode so they can better focus on the action at hand.

To add even more fun, Samsung also included access to the Galaxy Game Pack. Worth over $400 in value and available in 40 games, including exhilarating titles built with the Galaxy Tab S3-supported, graphics-optimizing Vulkan API, the package offers users access to unique and exclusive in-game benefits that allow them to fully enjoy some of the world’s most popular games.

A Redefined S Pen

The Galaxy Tab S3 also features Samsung’s signature, battery-free S Pen, which places a powerful creativity and productivity tool in the palm of users’ hands.

The S Pen boasts a fine, 0.7mm tip and industry-leading sensitivity, recognizing 4,096 levels of pressure. Slide-proof and measuring just over 9mm thick, the S Pen provides a comfortable and stable grip that allows for a more natural handwriting experience overall.

Useful S Pen features include Screen-off Memos, Samsung Notes and Air Command. Samsung Notes consolidates the functions of four Samsung notetaking applications in one simple app, while Air Command provides convenient access to a wide array of tools such as Translate, Magnify, Glance and Smart Select, which now lets users create, save and share their own animated GIFs.

Users may also utilize the implement’s handy PDF Annotation function to get work done on the go, or unleash their creativity with artistic apps such as Recolor, ArtRage and Autodesk’s SketchBook Pro, as well as PEN.UP, a global art community for Galaxy users, and the music-creation app Soundcamp.

Convenient Connectivity

To help users stay consistently connected, the Galaxy Tab S3 includes support for Samsung Flow, an app that allows users to seamlessly transition activities across their devices, simplifies sharing content and syncing notifications between their smartphone and their Galaxy tablet or Windows 10 2-in-1 device, and even lets users unlock their tablet with a simple scan of their Galaxy device’s fingerprint sensor.

The tablet’s dedicated, Pogo pin-connected keyboard locks into place securely so users can get to work quickly, does not require charging, and features a streamlined layout that optimizes key spacing to promote accurate typing. USB Type-C compatibility, meanwhile, provides more convenient cable connections as well as much faster data transfers.

With a sleek and seamless aesthetic, optimized entertainment features, and more tools to stay connected and productive, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3 offers users a tablet experience that’s both incredibly fun and efficient.

Which Wallpaper is Your Favorite?

What kind of wallpaper have you chosen for your smartphone? Is it a picture of a loved one? Perhaps it’s your dream car or your favorite sports star. Many people, of course, simply stick with the default image that came with their phone.

Still, as we constantly lock and unlock our devices, the choice of wallpaper becomes ever more important to people. After all, it’s the first impression you have of your device. And people want to use the wallpaper to demonstrate their identity, their feelings, and their moods – which, of course, are ever changing.

When a new smartphone is released, people are immediately drawn to the home screen. The wallpaper is no longer just a placeholder; in fact, it is now an important factor in the buying decision. Wallpapers have the ability to generate the ‘want it’ factor that makes one smartphone distinct from another.

That’s why the designs of a phone’s wallpaper options are now becoming really important for manufacturers; they are putting nearly as much effort into designing the look and feel of the user interface as they do when it comes to designing the smartphone hardware during the product development stage.

Below are a few examples of the wallpapers available on the Galaxy S6:

Do you notice the look and feel of the wallpaper, and how it has been designed to complement the mysterious color of the smartphone body? These wallpapers have been designed to seamlessly harmonize with the metal and glass exterior to shape the look and feel of the smartphone.

At Samsung, we have clear criteria for designing the wallpaper. Each design is held against these questions:

Can it be harmonized with the smartphone’s exterior design?

Does it fit in the product’s overall marketing theme?

Does it maximize the performance of the smartphone’s display?

Does it look good and will it be well received by most people?

Can it be differentiate this smartphone from previous Galaxy S devices and competitors?

To meet our criteria, the team will use a set of images to create one picture, or they will add computer graphics to give the images better visual impact.

On a trial and error basis, the team strives to get it right, before creating the perfect set of images.

The process does not end there. The wallpaper images are then revised and retouched thousands of times, based on feedback from stakeholders and decision makers. In fact, almost 2,000 images are designed and then reviewed while a new smartphone model is being developed.
So let’s have a closer look at the story behind the development of the Galaxy S wallpaper.

Here is a snapshot of how the wallpaper has evolved from previous versions of the Galaxy S.

The wallpaper of the first Galaxy S was designed to show the merits of the new ‘AMOLED’ display, which could show an amount of detail and a range of color unlike any traditional TFT LCD displays. That’s why the designers chose a wallpaper of a ‘nightscape with very detailed textures and a golden tone’ to the picture, as seen below. It’s instantly obvious how this wallpaper showcases the picture quality of the ‘AMOLED’ screen.

The Galaxy S2, loved and revered, had an image that represented technical leadership and relentless innovation. Dubbed ‘Tera Light’, this wallpaper was optimized for the software, with a pattern that symbolized the Galaxy S2’s strong performance and high speed.

The Galaxy S3 wallpaper was based on a totally different approach. Not only did we consider the impact of the first impression the wallpaper would make, but we also considered how users would interact with the home screen. The Galaxy S3 achieved ‘meaningful innovation’ by adopting an organic shape for the exterior design. This helped to create a pure and natural wall paper, which included a ripple unlock effect, adding some quiet satisfaction to how users interacted with the device. This was one of the innovations that contributed to the huge success of the Galaxy S3.

The Galaxy S3 offers several wallpaper variations, all inspired by nature.

The product tag line of Galaxy S4 was ‘Life Companion’. We tried to seamlessly connect this theme to the wallpaper, based on related keywords such as ‘shiny’, ‘happy’, ‘reminiscences’, and ‘life’. However, every person has a different ‘special moment’, so it was very difficult to select an image that represented and encompassed all these keywords. Thousands of images were reviewed, and the final wallpaper picture was a compound of multiple images. The unlock effect was also designed to deliver the feeling of a ‘happiest moment’ by adapting a ‘Lense Flare’-like effect of reflection.

The various Galaxy S4 wallpaper designs evoked users’ ‘happiest moment’– like trips, dreams or blue skies.

Next, we tried to change the game of the smartphone industry by elevating our smartphone from an electronic device to a fashion item. The Galaxy S5 was our first step at this concept with a wallpaper named ‘Brilliant Cut’. It was inspired both by the reflections on a diamond surface, and a geometrical city view. Finalizing this design took much longer than for previous ones, because it required very detailed tuning to ensure each cutting angle and color expression was distinct. Without doubt, the image was fine-tuned again and again until the image ultimately satisfied all.

The wearable devices that followed the Galaxy S5, including the Gear 2 and Gear Fit, also used the ‘Brilliant Cut’ image to give the family of products a similar look.

For the Galaxy S6, the tag line is ‘NEXT is NOW’. In other words: The future has become reality. To design the wallpaper, we started with futuristic and sleek images that complement the exterior of the Galaxy S6. In the end, the wallpaper images show how technology connects the present and the future, flowing seamlessly like a liquid.

Calling it ‘wallpaper’ may not make it sound like a very exciting aspect of your smartphone, but as you’ve seen, a lot of thought and effort goes into its development. For the Galaxy S series of smartphones, it’s just as important as the exterior of the hardware, and now you know how it helps to give you this feeling of quiet satisfaction when you pick up your phone and unlock the screen.
