Samsung Electronics today announced that approximately 34 models across its 2026 TV and soundbar lineup have received Product Carbon Reduction and Product Carbon Footprint certifications from TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized certification organization based in Germany. The achievement reflects Samsung’s continued efforts to reduce carbon emissions across its premium product lineup.

“As a global leader in premium displays and audio, Samsung sees sustainability as an essential part of innovation,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “We remain committed to reducing carbon emissions across our products, so consumers do not have to choose between cutting-edge technology and a more responsible product experience.”

Samsung received Product Carbon Reduction certification for 14 premium display and audio models, including its 2026 OLED TVs, The Frame Pro and its flagship HW-Q990H soundbar.1 An additional 20 products, including Micro RGB and Mini LED TVs, earned Product Carbon Footprint certification.2

TÜV Rheinland grants Product Carbon Footprint certification to products that meet international standards for evaluating greenhouse gas emissions across the full product life cycle, including manufacturing, transportation, use and disposal.

Product Carbon Reduction certification, on the other hand, is granted to products that have already received Product Carbon Footprint certification and further demonstrate a measurable reduction in carbon emissions compared with their predecessors. Notably, the HW-Q990H earned both certifications, extending Samsung’s sustainability efforts beyond TVs.

In 2021, Samsung’s Neo QLED became the first TV with 4K resolution or higher to receive Product Carbon Reduction certification. In the six years since, the company has continued to expand its portfolio of certified products across QLED, OLED, Lifestyle TVs, monitors and signage.

These efforts also reflect Samsung’s broader leadership in premium display and audio categories, where it has led the global TV market for 20 years3 and remained the No. 1 global soundbar brand for 12 years.4

Monitor size can help boost productivity. A right-sized display supports multitasking, improves readability and immersion and ultimately enhances efficiency.

Samsung Electronics has expanded its ViewFinity S8 (S80UD model) lineup with the first-ever 37-inch1 model, setting a new benchmark for a monitor designed for the work environment. Joining the existing 32- and 43-inch options as a new middle-size offering, the new display offers outstanding readability, an optimal viewing distance and a comfortable field of view. Samsung Newsroom takes a closer look at ViewFinity S8, showcasing the advantages of its latest form factor firsthand.

▲ ViewFinity S8, the world’s first 37-inch monitor

Bigger Screen, Greater Efficiency and Usability

ViewFinity S8 features a 37-inch (92.7-centimeter) display with a work-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio. Compared to the 32-inch model, the screen’s additional five inches provide more workspace while maintaining UHD resolution in sharp detail.

The larger screen brings text readability to a whole new level. Even with the same display settings, text appears larger than on a 32-inch display, making details stand out and information easier to grasp at a glance. When standing, presenting or sharing the screen with teammates, ViewFinity S8 delivers the big-screen experience designed for collaboration.

Built with user comfort in mind, the monitor has been certified by TÜV Rheinland as an Ergonomic Workspace Display. This recognizes its design that reduces visual fatigue during tasks like text editing or documentation and enhances task immersion, thereby improving work efficiency. Its Intelligent Eye Care feature is also TÜV-certified, with an eye saver mode that minimizes blue light and flicker, which further reduces eye strain.2

▲ (From left) A comparison of the 37-inch ViewFinity S8 and the 32-inch ViewFinity S8 shows improved readability at the same display settings. The 37-inch monitor has been certified by TÜV Rheinland as an Ergonomic Workspace Display.

Detail-oriented tasks like video editing demand precision and space — and the 37-inch display delivers on both. Its size makes it easier to spot subtle details, enhancing the depth and polish of each project. At the same time, the broader workspace allows users to keep multiple source videos and folders open side by side, streamlining their creative work.

▲ (From left) A comparison of the 37-inch ViewFinity S8 and the 32-inch ViewFinity S8 highlights finer detail during video editing.

Built for Multitasking

The 37-inch ViewFinity S8 is an ideal choice for multitaskers. Its expansive screen accommodates multiple windows that can be displayed at once, allowing users to stay focused without constant switching. Because the display does the work of two monitors, it also eliminates the need for a dual setup, creating a cleaner and more streamlined workspace.

Connecting multiple devices is effortless with the display. A built-in keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) switch lets users control two devices simultaneously with a single set of peripherals, while picture-by-picture (PBP) and picture-in-picture (PIP) features enhance multitasking capabilities.

▲ (From left) ViewFinity S8 in PBP mode and PIP mode

In PBP mode, users can connect a laptop and a smartphone to use each side of the monitor as a separate display. For example, users can keep a reference video open on the laptop while editing on ViewFinity S8 and browsing related articles. Switching inputs is simple with the built-in KVM switch, allowing everything to be managed from one place.

The monitor also comes equipped with a USB-C port and a built-in LAN port. Offering 90W charging, simultaneous data transfer and Ethernet connectivity, it supports a more efficient and flexible workspace.

▲ (From left) Rear left and bottom port connections of the ViewFinity S8.

Ready To Work in Seconds

Getting started with the 37-inch ViewFinity S8 takes no time at all.

▲ From box to desk, ViewFinity S8 is built for hassle-free setup.

With the Easy Setup Stand, the display can be assembled and installed in about 10 seconds, even by users with little experience — with no additional tools or screws required. Simply attach the stand to the base, twist it 90 degrees to lock and slide it into the back of the monitor.

Samsung Electronics’ entire line of standalone signage has earned a Silver rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), an environmental rating system managed by the Green Electronics Council (GEC) in the United States.

EPEAT evaluates products across a range of sustainability criteria, including hazardous substance use, energy efficiency, recycled packaging and corporate social responsibility. This recognition is especially noteworthy as every model in Samsung’s standalone signage lineup is now certified with a Silver rating. Additionally, three touch signage models — the QBC-T (24-inch) and QMB-T (43-inch and 55-inch sizes) — also received the Silver rating.

Since becoming the first company in the signage industry to earn the Reducing CO2 certification from the Carbon Trust in the United Kingdom in 2022, Samsung has continued to advance its sustainability efforts by incorporating recycled plastics into its products.

As a result, in 2025, Samsung’s standalone 4K UHD signage lineup — the QMC series, ranging from 43- to 98-inch models — has received both Product Carbon Footprint and Product Carbon Reduction certifications from TÜV Rheinland in Germany.

Samsung Electronics today announced that its latest lineup of QLED TVs has received ‘Real Quantum Dot Display’ certification from TÜV Rheinland, an international certification organization based in Germany. The certification verifies that Samsung’s QLED TVs meet global standards for quantum dot display structure, reinforcing the company’s technological leadership in the premium TV market.

The certification confirms that Samsung QLED TVs comply with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62595-1-6 standard, which defines the application of quantum dot (QD) light converting unit combined with blue light sources for standard QLED displays.

As part of the certification process, TÜV Rheinland analyzed the light spectrum produced by Samsung QLED TVs and confirmed that it displayed clear separation between red, green and blue — an important marker of color accuracy. This distinction is enabled by quantum dots and may not be as pronounced in displays using alternative materials, which can sometimes cause color mixing or reduced clarity. The results demonstrate how Samsung’s use of quantum dots contributes to delivering vivid and precise color expression.

With the latest certification, Samsung’s QLED TVs are officially validated as true quantum dot displays, further differentiating Samsung’s offerings and strengthening consumer trust in premium television technologies.

“This certification objectively validates that Samsung QLED TVs deliver true quantum dot performance built to international standards,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to drive innovation and strengthen consumer trust as we lead the premium TV market.”

The series that have received certification include the Neo QLED 8K (QN990F, QN900F), Neo QLED 4K (QN90F, QN85F, QN80F, QN70F) and QLED 4K (Q8F, Q7F, Q6F) series.

Quantum dots are ultra-fine nanomaterials, tens of thousands of times smaller than a human hair, renowned for their ability to reproduce precise and vivid colors depending on light wavelength. The method by which quantum dots are integrated into display panels has become a key indicator for evaluating technological advancement in the premium TV segment.

Separately, Samsung’s quantum dot technology has also been recognized by global testing organization Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) for its excellence in cadmium-free design — an environmentally conscious approach that eliminates the use of cadmium, a toxic heavy metal known to pose risks to human health and the environment.

Samsung Electronics today announced that approximately 80 models in its 2025 TV, monitor and soundbar lineups have received Product Carbon Reduction1 and Product Carbon Footprint2 certifications from TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized certification organization based in Germany. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the premium lineups, Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED, have received certifications, reinforcing the company’s continued efforts in carbon reduction.

“Samsung Electronics is committed to driving technological innovation for a sustainable future,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As the world’s leading TV manufacturer, we will continue to be at the forefront of establishing a more energy-efficient ecosystem that benefits consumers.”

Following last year’s certification of 60 models across the Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle TV categories, Samsung has further increased its number of certified products in 2025 to include QLED TVs. In addition, the company is also working towards obtaining certification for its Color E-Paper lineup later this year.

The certifications from TÜV Rheinland are awarded following a rigorous evaluation of a product’s entire lifecycle — including manufacturing, transportation, usage and disposal — based on internationally recognized sustainability standards. By assessing and verifying carbon emissions at each stage, these certifications highlight Samsung’s efforts to reduce environmental impact across its product lineup.

In particular, the Product Carbon Reduction certification is granted to products that have already received a Product Carbon Footprint certification and further demonstrate a measurable reduction in carbon emissions compared to their predecessors.

Samsung’s leadership in energy-efficient display technology dates back to 2021, when the Neo QLED became the first 4K and higher-resolution TV to earn the Reducing CO2 certification. Since then, Samsung has continually expanded its portfolio of environmentally certified products, including QLED, Crystal UHD, Lifestyle TVs, OLED TVs and a wide range of monitors and digital signage products.

Samsung Electronics today announced that eight product series1 in its 2024 Neo QLED 4K and 8K, OLED, and The Frame lineups have received the “Product Carbon Reduction” certification from TÜV Rheinland, the international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization. The certification demonstrates the carbon footprint reduction ratio of these products compared to the previous year’s model, serving as a testament to the company’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions year-over-year.

“As the world’s leading TV manufacturer, it is our responsibility to create products that both redefine TV capabilities while advancing sustainability efforts,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Congratulations to Samsung Electronics. The issuance of Product Carbon Reduction certification demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its actual implementation efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change,” said Frank Holzmann, Global Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Business Field Electrical, “This recognition will undoubtedly enhance the brand’s reputation and customer trust, further solidifying its position as a leading player in the global electronics market.”

TÜV Rheinland evaluated greenhouse gas emissions for Samsung’s TV products throughout their life cycle- “from Cradle to Grave” — ranging from manufacturing, transportation, use to disposal, in accordance with the internationally recognized standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4 as well as TÜV Rheinland’s self-developed standard 2 PfG Q2880/09.23. It verifies and certifies that all of eight TV product series meet the carbon reduction standard requirement set by TÜV Rheinland. The newly certified products include two Neo QLED 8K series, three Neo QLED 4K series, two OLED series and one series of The Frame.

In addition to product certification, Samsung’s Visual Display Business obtained the display and consumer electronics industry’s first “Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method” certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification measures and manages greenhouse gas emissions throughout the complete life cycle of a product, collecting and analyzing data in accordance with management regulations and stipulated execution manuals to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and ensure transparent and reproducible results.

As Samsung continues its work to reduce the environmental impact of its products, it aims to achieve TÜV Rheinland’s “Product Carbon Footprint” and “Product Carbon Reduction” certifications for over 60 models in 2024, including newly introduced soundbars. With these eight product series’ carbon reduction result and analysis report, Samsung has more confidence and clear direction in the development and design of the next generation decarbonized TV product.

This recognition builds on previous acknowledgements of Samsung’s sustainability efforts. It obtained its first “Reducing CO2” certification from the Carbon Trust in 2021 for Neo QLED 4K and higher resolution TVs. In 2022, 11 TV models and five monitor and signage products achieved the “Reducing CO2” certification, and most recently, 24 models across Samsung’s 2023 lineup were certified by the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland.

Samsung Electronics announced today that models1 in its 2023 Neo QLED and QLED lineup have earned the “Low Vision Care” certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification is awarded to products that adhere to standards designed to assist viewers affected by Amblyopia, a type of visual impairment, by enhancing image presentation and improving vision detection.

“Technological innovation gains true meaning when it is available to everyone, so we’re thrilled to receive this certification that underscores our work to build features to make viewing more accessible,” said Seok Woo Yong, EVP and Deputy Head of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Under Samsung’s mission of ‘Screens Everywhere, Screens for All,’ we will continue to deliver premium screens that cater to the needs of every viewer.”

To improve the viewing experience for consumers with different types of low vision, Samsung developed Relumino Mode, which enhances specific parts of videos — such as highlighting outlines and improving contrast and sharpness — so that it is easier to discern content on the screen and follow the actions. Amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, occurs in about three percent of children, making it one of the more common low vision problems experienced in childhood. In most cases of amblyopia, a child’s brain ignores the signals coming from one eye, meaning it only develops pathways to the other eye.

TÜV Rheinland, a leading international certification body, awards its “Low Vision Care” certification by evaluating how technology impacts the user experience for those with amblyopia. It conducts various tests that compare how normal display modes and the Relumino Mode differ in clarity, sharpness and overall visual comfort.

In addition to this latest certification, Samsung screens have also received the “Circadian Rhythm Display” certification and “Eye Care” certification from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), as well as the “Glare-Free” validation from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for its technologies that offer a safer, more comfortable viewing experience. It also received the “Pantone Validated” and “Skin Tone Validated” certifications from Pantone, signifying that certified Samsung screens meet the organization’s color accuracy standards. This growing list of accolades highlights how innovation can positively influence consumer experiences with technology and reinforces Samsung’s global TV leadership over the past 17 years.

It goes without saying that for any gamer, experienced or new, having a PC that is able to keep up with the precision and control fundamental to today’s gaming experiences is of utmost importance.

A key part of this is having a monitor that offers the visual acuity required by today’s high-definition gaming style. Samsung Electronics’ new gaming monitor, the Odyssey G7, has been optimized to provide the best gaming experience possible; Samsung Newsroom tried out the Odyssey G7 range – comprised of a 27-inch Odyssey G7 monitor and a 32-inch Odyssey G7 monitor – to learn more.

A Sleek Design With Full Customizability

The Odyssey G7 possesses the sleek, sophisticated design characteristic of today’s gaming equipment. The front bezel has been designed with a dynamic curved shape, and if a user turns the monitor, circular lighting on the back of the device emits a subtle blue light.

The monitor’s design can also suit any user, regardless of their height or gaming preferences, as users can adjust the height of the monitor via its stand for utmost comfort and convenience when gaming. Users will find that, thanks to the Odyssey G7’s slim stand, even intense gaming sessions with lots of mouse movement will remain comfortable.

No More Lag

In order to ensure you are able to make that winning move when gaming, your monitor needs to have a fast response time and high refresh rate to ensure you never miss the opportunity for victory. If the response time is low, your mouse’s actions will be delayed; however, the Odyssey G7’s super-fast response time of 1ms(GTG) allows for the instantaneous application of mouse commands.

When it comes to games that are graphic-intense or include a lot of character movement, a gamer’s worst nightmare is the appearance of afterimages onscreen that can get in the way of successful gameplay. This is no problem for users of the Odyssey G7, which possesses a high screen refresh rate of 240Hz, meaning that gamers can enjoy smooth transitions and complete control over their gaming experiences.

A Totally Immersive Experience

Whether your focus is on a multi-player or single-player game, total immersion in your game is a key factor in helping you play your best. The Odyssey G7 monitor features a curved QLED panel with the world’s first maximum curvature of 1000R which means, whether you are looking at the center or the edge of the screen, you have a consistent field of view.

Reducing Eye Strain

Today’s games offer players immersivity and longevity – meaning that there is nothing quite as enjoyable as a long gaming session. But a long time sat at a screen can result in discomfort and visual fatigue, which is why the Odyssey G7 has been specifically designed to minimize visual fatigue by offering consistent brightness, contrast range and color coordination from the center to each edge of the monitor. Even after partaking in a gaming session that runs late into the night, users’ eyes are sure to remain unstressed.

Furthermore, the Odyssey G7 has been awarded the Eye Comfort certification by TÜV Rheinland, a certification organization that sets global standards of quality.

Any player is sure to feel like an expert gamer when using the Odyssey G7 monitor thanks to its smooth game performance and fast response time, even during action-heavy gameplay scenarios. Overall, it is clear that the Odyssey G7 monitor was developed for those looking to enjoy high-quality, immersive gaming sessions without the limitations of eye strain or delayed response times.

If you’re usually on your phone before bed and you find yourself having trouble falling asleep, you’re not alone.

According to recent findings from Counterpoint Research, nearly half of all global smartphone users spend more than five hours a day on their mobile device. Once the sun goes down, studies show that the blue light from your smartphone’s screen and other artificial light sources can throw your biological clock out of whack – making it harder to fall asleep, and possibly causing more serious problems down the line.

To safeguard users’ eyes from blue light’s potentially harmful effects, Samsung equipped the Galaxy S10 line with a display that reduces users’ exposure to blue light wavelengths – without compromising picture quality. Let’s take a closer look at how blue light affects our eyes, and how the Galaxy S10’s display protects them.

Why Blue Light Exposure Matters

Blue light is generally defined as a high-intensity, short-wavelength (380 to 500-nanometer) range of light on the visible light spectrum.

These days, whether it’s through our electronic devices’ screens, energy efficient lighting, or simply sunlight, we’re constantly being exposed to blue light. Which isn’t all bad. According to the Royal Society Te Apārangi, a not-for-profit organization based in New Zealand, “Adequate exposure to daylight, particularly during the morning, is important for synchronizing the circadian body clock, which can affect many processes including sleep, metabolism, immune function and even our mood.”

However, when viewed at night, blue light has been shown to suppress the production of melatonin (a hormone that regulates sleep–wake cycles) more powerfully than other types of light, affecting our ability to sleep. Recent research from the University of Toledo also suggests that blue light from mobile devices can cause harm to the eye’s retina.

In this digital age, with smartphone users spending increasingly more time on their mobile devices, it’s easy to see why blue-light reducing technology has become absolutely necessary.

How the Galaxy S10 Reduces Blue Light Transmission

The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10e and Galaxy S10 5G’s Dynamic AMOLED display was built from the ground up to minimize eye strain so users can get a better night’s sleep.

Galaxy S10 users can sleep soundly knowing that their smartphone’s display has been certified by world-renowned testing firm TÜV Rheinland1 to drastically reduce blue light’s harmful effects. When building the display, which received TÜV Rheinland’s official ‘Eye Comfort’ certification, Samsung applied new organic materials that reduce blue light wavelengths measuring between 415 and 455nm (the range that research2 suggests is particularly harmful to the retina) by up to 42 percent3 – without the use of filters.

This significant reduction in blue light transmission is the product of Samsung’s continuous commitment to developing industry-leading AMOLED technology. The Dynamic AMOLED display reduces the transmission of ‘harmful’ blue light (wavelengths in the 415 to 455nm range) to below 7 percent – the industry’s lowest mark. This means that the Galaxy S10’s display reduces nearly 50 percent more blue light than previous AMOLED displays (approx. 12 percent), and more than 60 percent more than most smartphone LCD displays (approx. 18 percent).

The Galaxy S10’s display also produces incredibly lifelike colors. To enable users to enjoy crisp, immersive colors day or night, Samsung went to great lengths to ensure that the display’s blue-light reducing innovations wouldn’t compromise image quality.

Samsung’s Mobile Digital Natural Image engine (mDNIe) is one such example of an image quality-preserving innovation. Whereas with previous smartphones’ displays, activating a blue-light filter would inevitably add a noticeable tint to the screen, this proprietary technology enables the Galaxy S10’s display to produce vibrant, immersive colors4 and reduce blue light transmission at the same time.

To offer users additional protection, the Galaxy S10 also features a built-in blue-light filter, accessible via the Quick Panel, that blocks up to 99 percent of blue light wavelengths. Users also have the option to set the blue-light filter to turn on automatically before they go to bed by activating Bixby’s preset ‘Before bed’ Routine, accessible under Settings > Advanced features > Bixby Routines.

As ByungChang Kwak of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Division explained, in addition to opting for a blue-light reducing smartphone like the Galaxy S10, there are simple things that consumers can do to help protect their eyes when using electronics devices. “For example, adjusting ambient lighting to minimize screen glare can help reduce eye strain,” said Kwak, “and remembering to blink frequently can help prevent dry eye.”

Going forward, Kwak added, “Samsung will continue to develop technologies that promote better health and make the user experience more convenient.”

It has been over 10 years since Samsung Electronics first fitted an AMOLED display on its Haptic AMOLED phone in 2009 and on Galaxy S products in 2010. With the latest additions to the flagship Galaxy range, the Galaxy S10 line, the AMOLED display has evolved to provide crystal-clear picture quality and a display size that is 1.5 times bigger compared to the Galaxy S.

Thanks to these cutting-edge developments, the Galaxy S10 line offers a display with a brilliant, realistic picture quality whilst being comfortable on the user’s eyes and able to reflect various color preferences. Samsung Newsroom sat down with Byungduk Yang, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications Division to learn more about how the Galaxy S10 line’s display is at the core of the user’s mobile experience.

A User-Friendly Approach to Display Technology

Yang’s development philosophy for mobile displays puts the user first; “providing practical screen solutions and new experiences have become our core values,” explained Yang. “As a result, the Galaxy S10 line’s display focuses on providing interesting experiences and real-life benefits to users, beyond just good picture quality or display size.”

Of course, one of the key innovations of the Galaxy S10 line is the full screen experience provided by the ‘Infinity-O Display’ that covers, bar the camera, the entire front side of the device. In order to seamlessly integrate the front camera into the display, a small and precise hole is made in the screen using a delicate laser cutting technique and advanced barrier technology. These procedures maximize screen real estate, enhancing the reliability of barrier performance of AMOLED pixels around the hole. Therefore, users’ visual experience is maintained, or even more improved on the Infinity-O Display along with Dynamic AMOLED technology at the highest quality possible. “The Galaxy S10 line’s full display offers picture quality that is more realistic than before,” noted Yang.

But the Galaxy S10 line’s display provides real-life benefits and experiences to users beyond just high picture quality. “We wanted to achieve a ‘user-friendly’ display,” explained Yang. “Display-based devices are known to harm users’ retinas after prolonged use to due blue light emissions. This is particularly a problem at night, when exposure to blue light inhibits melatonin production which can affect sleep patterns. But the Galaxy S10 line’s display delicately manipulates the wavelength of blue OLED to remove the harmful energy, which means the device can be used for a long time with minimal damage to the user’s eyes.”

Previously, smartphone displays used regular software to reduce the amount of blue light emanating from the display. But the Galaxy S10 line harnesses a technology that reduces blue light exposure by 42% more than the previous technique, without compromising picture quality. “We have even received an Eye Comfort Certification from TÜV Rheinland,” enthused Yang. “Users will definitely notice than their eyes are less strained when using the Galaxy S10.”

Changing the Way We See Color

Key to the brilliant realism of the Galaxy S10 line’s Dynamic AMOLED display is its evolved color representation. Compared to previous Galaxy phones, the Galaxy S10 line is the most exceptional yet; DisplayMate’s Just Noticeable Color Difference (JNCD) unit measurement for Galaxy S10 is 0.4 JNCD (where the lower the value, the more realistic a color rendering is), up from the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9’s ratings at 0.5 and 0.7 JNCD respectively.

This near-perfect color rendering also takes into account global user color preferences. “We identified that people read color differently depending on where they are from, their age, and their gender,” explained Yang. “To accommodate this, we asked over 2,000 people in 15 countries all around the world to provide their color preferences. We then analyzed their responses and, given the results, created two default color modes. ‘Natural Mode’ has a warmer tone to suit people in the US and Europe, whereas ‘Vivid Mode’ accents bluish tones for users in Asia.”

A Display to Match the Human Eye

On top of being able to render over 16 million colors, the Galaxy S10 line’s Dynamic AMOLED Display also supports high definition, providing the user with optimized high picture quality for every image, and as the world’s first smartphone display to support HDR10+, for every frame of a video, as well. Much like how the pupils in our eyes dilate and contract depending on the amount of light around us, the Galaxy S10’s display features Dynamic Tone Mapping technology that adjusts and optimizes picture quality according to the light-dark contrast on the screen.

The display has also received a ‘100% Mobile Color Volume’ certification for its realistic image rendering – the first smartphone range to ever do so. In order to achieve such display prowess, not only has Samsung been tirelessly working on AMOLED organic material research, but also on its proprietary picture quality engine, ‘mDNIe (Mobile Digital Natural Image Engine)’.

So what is the future of device display, as envisaged by Yang? “In the past, we began with black and white displays – TV screens – and the natural next step was to develop displays that presented images in color, moving closer to how we, as humans, perceive the world. Accordingly, we are to take this verisimilitude to the next level by making a display that brings together technology to provide a picture quality that matches the realism and substantiality of human vision.”

Another bar-raising mobile display, another record-breaking rating from the industry’s authority on display technologies.

After a comprehensive evaluation process, DisplayMate Technologies has deemed the Galaxy S10’s display “the most color accurate display that we have ever tested, [and] almost certainly considerably better than your existing smartphone, 4K UHD TV, tablet, laptop, and computer monitor.” Like the Galaxy Note9 and Galaxy S9 before it, the Galaxy S10 established or matched several smartphone display performance records during DisplayMate’s extensive tests, ultimately becoming the latest flagship Galaxy device to earn the firm’s highest-ever “Excellent A+” grade.

Compared to the Galaxy S9, the Galaxy S10 offers markedly better outdoor visibility, power consumption, color accuracy, and more.

Featuring a peak luminance of 1215 nits, the Galaxy S10’s display produces crisp, vibrant visuals when users need them – such as when they’re outside and under direct sunlight, or in environments with lots of ambient light. And with a relative power efficiency rating of 1.54 watts – an improvement on the Galaxy S9’s 1.70-watt rating – the Galaxy S10’s display is not only brighter than last year’s model, but also more energy efficient.

In addition to being the first mobile display to support HDR10+, a next-generation open standard for high dynamic range (HDR) video, the Galaxy S10’s display has been verified by DisplayMate to offer record-setting color accuracy. Its 0.4 Just Noticeable Color Difference (JNCD) rating in the DCI-P3 color range is a marked improvement over the Galaxy S9’s 0.7 JNCD score. This means that the Galaxy S10’s display can be counted on to deliver outstanding picture quality, with a level of color accuracy that is, according to DisplayMate’s report, “virtually indistinguishable from perfect.”

To help users protect their eyes from blue light, which studies suggest can affect our ability to get a good night’s rest, the Galaxy S10 features built-in technology that reduces blue light by up to 42 percent.1 The display has also received a coveted ‘Eye Comfort’ certification from world-class German testing and certification body TÜV Rheinland for its record-low blue light output. Whereas conventional smartphone OLED panels’ visuals feature roughly 12 percent blue light, the Galaxy S10’s feature just seven percent – the lowest level in the business.

After detailing the display’s record-setting enhancements in his report, DisplayMate Technologies’ President, Dr. Raymond Soneira, noted that “What is particularly significant and impressive is that Samsung has been systematically improving OLED display performance with every Galaxy generation since 2010.”

The Galaxy S10 adds an exciting new chapter to that legacy, and underlines Samsung Electronics’ continued commitment to developing the most immersive displays on the market.

The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e will officially launch on March 8 in select markets.
