Samsung Medison showcases HERA Z20, a new premium ultrasound system for OB&GYN, in ISUOG regarded as the most important academic conference in the world in the field of OB&GYN ultrasound.

HERA Z20 further enhanced the cutting edge AI diagnostic assistance features to improve health of women and fetuses. The Live ViewAssist provides a real-time diagnosis location, is newly integrated to HERA Z20. The Live ViewAssist reduces time required for measurement and increases accuracy by automatically classifying cross sections and providing measurement results for entire quarter of OB&GYN.

Live Q-scan and A-Focus features have been newly added to HERA Z20 to provide a more uniform image and sharper image quality. The Live Q-scan reduces noises that appear during the ultrasound examination in real-time, and A-Focus provides clearer images in every scanning depth. Crystal Architecture, Samsung Healthcare proprietary ultrasound imaging technology, also uses the upgraded second generation engine to increase clarity of image.

HERA Z20 enhances user convenience through My HERA going beyond the AI diagnostic assist feature. My HERA as a feature enabling user to build personalized ultrasound system by setting the diagnostic setting values for each user type in advance, can be customized depending on user preference.

Additionally, the EzStructure and EzFlow features provide convenient, optimal imaging settings for the anatomy to be examined with a single touch of a button. The main monitor and touch panel have freely adjustable angles and are ergonomically tailored for user convenience.

Samsung Medison plans to conduct a live scan of the HERA Z20 onsite to showcase the real-time AI diagnostic assist and reporting features that are faster and stronger than before.

In ISUOG, Samsung Medison also introduces theSUITE website for the first time along with HERA Z20 where educational contents of Samsung ultrasound system are complied. The new website membership registration event will be held to celebrate theSUITE launch in ISUOG. Samsung Medison, a global medical equipment company and an affiliate of Samsung Electronics, will be showcasing its AI-based diagnostic solutions at ISUOG (International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology) World Congress 2023 held in Seoul, South Korea from October 16 to 19.

As one of the most important academic societies in the field of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound, ISUOG organizes annual congresses worldwide to share the latest technology and research findings. This year’s event, held for the first time in Seoul, will be attended by nearly 2,000 obstetricians and gynecologists from 126 countries.

Samsung Medison, a main sponsor of the event, will showcase Samsung’s AI diagnostic technology through the display of its premium ultrasound systems “HERA W10 Elite” and “V8,” diagnostic solution demonstrations and a symposium.

HERA W10 Elite is a premium ultrasound system equipped with a 27-inch OLED monitor, which exhibits less brightness variation across viewing angles than conventional LCD monitors. Its probe delivers superior resolution, allowing users to view high-contrast ultrasound images from various angles without compromising image quality.

At the conference, Samsung Medison will showcase AI-based diagnostic assistant solutions, including HeartAssist, which categorizes and provides measurement results for fetal heart diagnosis with a simple press of a button; and UterineAssist, which automatically measures the size and shape of the uterus helping to accurately examine and diagnose the uterus.

In addition, Samsung Medison will present AI-automated measurement functions such as BiometryAssist and ViewAssist, which measure and automatically annotate fetal growth indicators by extending the items previously measured only in the 2nd trimester (14-27 weeks) to the 1st trimester (1-13 weeks) in accordance with the newly revised ISUOG guidelines in February 2023.

“Using the BiometryAssist feature, fetal weight can be measured with professional accuracy up to 48 hours before delivery, and the measurement time can be dramatically reduced,” said Professor Mar Gil of Torrejón University Hospital, Spain, in an abstract of the study available for publication at the conference.

At the conference, Samsung Medison will also introduce an upgraded version of “5D CNS (Central Nervous System)+,” a convenient feature for fetal brain examination.

A positive reception is anticipated at the conference due to its automatic provision of nine essential cross-sections of the fetal brain, including the coronal and sagittal planes and six measurements necessary for diagnosis – head circumference and diameter, with high accuracy.

Other features such as SonoSync, which specializes in remote consulting and training, and S-Hub, an IT solution for hospital resource management, will be on display to medical professionals from around the world.

Samsung Medison will hold symposia on “Obstetrics” and “Gynecology” on October 17 and 18, respectively, to present research findings on the clinical utility of features that help diagnose the heart and brain of a fetus and endometriosis.

During the “Fetal Therapy and Telesonography” session in the “Obstetrics” symposium, Dr. Ruben Quintero from The Fetal Institute in the United States will present a case where SonoSync, a real-time ultrasound image-sharing solution with remote control ability, saved the life of a mother and her newborn in a case of misdiagnosed fetal distress.

In the “Gynecology” symposium, Professor Tom Bourne from Imperial College, U.K., will present his research on ovarian tumors using CrystalVue and MV-Flow features.

During this congress, Samsung will be showcasing the clinical values and efficiencies of the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based diagnostic solutions through various scientific programs.

Samsung’s symposium will be held on September 18^th at 12:35 p.m. This event will also run online under the theme of “Samsung’s Advanced AI and Remote Diagnosis Solutions.” Prof. Julien Stirnemann (Necker Hospital, France) will deliver research results on the clinical values of two AI diagnostic solutions: BiometryAssist which measures the growth and condition of a fetus and HeartAssist which improves workflow when diagnosing a fetal heart.

Professor Antonia Testa (Scientific Director of the Center for Ultrasound in Gynecological Oncology “Class Ultrasound” of the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital, Rome, Italy) will be demonstrating her experience with SonoSync, a real-time ultrasound image-sharing solution during Samsung’s Symposium. She will be presenting the simplicity and benefits of image sharing as a second opinion by remotely accessing a HERA W10 system at Gemelli Hospital, Rome from the ISUOG venue in London.

Hye-Sung Won, professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Asan Medical Center, Korea, will introduce the MPI+ that semi-automatically measure LV MPI and RV MPI to analyze the fetal heart function. She will also be presenting her findings of the feasibility and reliability of ‘Fetal Heart Solution’ in automatically providing complex fetal heart view image classifications and fetal heart structural measurements.

In addition, Samsung will be introducing its high-end versatile ultrasound device ‘V8’, first released on September 30^th, at the virtual exhibition hall during ISUOG 2021.

‘V8’ will include some of the enhanced solutions that are dedicated to the premium ultrasound system such as MV-Flow, a novel alternative to power Doppler for visualizing the slow flow of micro-vascularized structures, and LumiFlow, three-dimensional visualization of blood flow which helps the user understand the structure of small vessels intuitively. ‘V8’ will also include some of the ‘Intelligent Assist’ solutions to cater to the needs of the larger busy hospitals.

V8’s “V” stands for “Versatile,” meaning that the advanced functions from premium ultrasound systems dedicated to specific departments such as obstetrics, radiology, orthopedics and cardiology have been implemented.

Several diagnostic assistance functions of a premium ultrasound system for obstetrics and gynecology include MV-Flow which is suitable for observing the presence of microvascular blood flow, low-velocity blood flow and LumiFlow which provides three-dimensional visualization of blood flow in a two-dimensional image, allowing the medical staff a more realistic assessment of the vascular structures and flow.

For radiology, V8 is equipped with S-Shearwave Imaging which provides information about tissue stiffness as a result of disease using ultrasonic transverse elasticity. V8 also features S-Fusion which allows synchronous alignment of medical images of ultrasound with one or more cross-sectional studies such as MRI which are instantly reconstructed in the corresponding plane.

On the other hand, it is also expected to be equipped with a NerveTrack which has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an AI medical device and can be used to treat musculoskeletal diseases that track nerve locations in pain areas in real time.

In addition, by introducing a 23.8″ LED monitor and a 14″ high-sensitivity touch panel, user convenience has been enhanced to perform various procedures.

The screen that automatically tracks the nerve’s location on the wrist in real time with the NerveTrack function is executed.
