The S Pen has always been a boundary-pushing innovation, but adding BLE connectivity takes it to another level, literally expanding the boundaries within which you can use your S Pen to manage your device.

The S Pen’s connectivity allows it to serve as an intuitive remote control for your Galaxy Note9 that lets you easily manage key functions, including the device’s camera, from within 10 meters of the device. This means that when taking a selfie or a fun photo with friends, after launching the camera, rather than reaching for the shutter button (and possibly jeopardizing your carefully framed shot), you can instantly snap your pic with a click of the S Pen’s button. A double-click will switch from the front to the rear camera, and vice versa.

Other apps that support the use of the S Pen as a remote control include the Gallery app and various presentation and media-player apps¹. A simple click or double-click will allow you to play/pause a song, skip to the next track or video, or view the next/previous image in an album. You can even utilize the S Pen as a convenient clicker for presenting with the Galaxy Note9 and Samsung DeX. And with its open SDK (software development kit), developers will be able to integrate the S Pen’s intuitive controls into a wide range of apps that will allow you to streamline more tasks with a simple click.

Snap Flawless Photos

Even the best photos can be spoiled by a simple blink, a blur, a smudge on the lens, or by harsh, overpowering light behind the picture’s subject. That’s where the Galaxy Note9’s Flaw Detection function comes in. Once a photo has been snapped, the feature automatically scans it for flaws and notifies you if any are found².

That’s why Samsung outfitted the Galaxy Note9’s camera with an array of innovative technologies that allow it to produce stunning shots day or night.

The Galaxy Note9’s camera also includes support for Samsung’s recently introduced Super Slow-mo function, which ramps the camera’s shutter speed up to 960 frames per second to allow users to record spectacular slow-mo videos.

Four times slower than traditional slow-motion video, Super Slow-mo is powered by the camera’s Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor, which supports much faster image processing thanks in part to its integrated DRAM memory chip. The feature also includes an automatic Motion Detection function that instantly starts recording as soon as it detects movement.

The Galaxy Note9 allows users to transform 0.4 seconds of footage into approximately 12 seconds of Super Slow-mo video when taken in single shot mode³. Once a video is recorded, the feature automatically adds appropriate background music that makes the recorded moment even more epic.

Save More, Delete Less

Samsung designed the Galaxy Note9 with a belief that not only should you not need to plan your day around our smartphone’s battery life, you shouldn’t need to delete your favorite photos, files and apps to make room for more either.

To offer users more freedom to create and store dynamic content, the Galaxy Note9 comes with a default base storage of 128GB, including 6GB of RAM, and is also available in a 512GB model with 8GB of RAM². The latter opens the door for over one terabyte of storage via microSD card³.

Just how much dynamic content can the Galaxy Note9 hold? The 128GB model offers enough space for approximately 545 full HD (FHD) videos, or over 22,000 images, while the 512GB version features room for some 2,315 FHD videos, or over 93,000 images⁴. The smartphone’s combination of ample storage and microSD support means that users will likely never need to erase old content to make room for more apps, files, or stunning photos or videos captured with its innovative camera.

To offer users superior speed, the Galaxy Note9 comes equipped with a 10-nanometer processor that, in addition to boosting CPU and GPU performance by 33 and 23 percent, respectively⁵, supports the fastest network speeds available, with downloads of up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps)⁶.

Cool Under Pressure

The Galaxy Note9’s combination of premium power and performance is made possible, in part, thanks to its Water Carbon Cooling system, which allows the phone to run smoothly during heavy use.

Samsung’s cooling system counteracts heat with a heat pipe, or ‘thermal spreader’, that ensures that the processor functions at optimal levels. The system, which was first introduced in the Galaxy S7, utilizes changes in the phases of water to efficiently radiate heat. First, a porous structure filled with water absorbs the heat, then the water is turned into steam and moved through pipes. The steam then begins to cool and turns back into water and the process begins again, dispelling more heat with each subsequent cycle.

To help ensure that the Galaxy Note9 remains cool under pressure, Samsung equipped the device with a heat pipe that’s three times larger than the Galaxy Note8’s, and increased the system’s internal water intake to allow for greater heat absorption. The system also benefits from an enhanced carbon fiber TIM (thermal interface material) that transfers heat from the processor to the thermal spreader with 3.5 times greater efficiency, boosts thermal conductivity, and helps prevent overheating.

DJ Koh, President and Head of Samsung’s IT and Mobile Communications Division, unveils the Galaxy S9 and S9+, which he describes as smartphones “with the power to help you reimagine how you’ll experience the world tomorrow.”

Justin Denison, Samsung Electronics America’s Senior Vice President of Product Strategy and Marketing, introduces Galaxy S9 features that enable users to slow down and relive fleeting moments, interact with the world intuitively, and enjoy a much more personalized mobile experience.

Attendees are introduced to the new smartphone through the lens of augmented reality, which transforms their badges into virtual Galaxy S9s, allowing them to enjoy a “hands-on” look at the device before its official release.

Jonathan Wong, Director of Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, discusses the features and functions of the smartphones’ new cameras, including a Dual Aperture lens that supports crisp and clear low-light photos, and new Super Slow-mo videos.

1. A Streamlined Design

Both the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 and the 6.2-inch S9+ introduce refinements to the Infinity Display that make Samsung’s signature screen even more striking.

These include reinforcing the Super AMOLED displays with thicker Corning© Gorilla© Glass 5 and crafting the bezels and screen in a deeper black to conceal the iris sensor and create a more uniform, minimalist aesthetic. Both devices feature sleek, contemporary designs, and are available in a choice of four colors: Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue, and the all-new Lilac Purple.

2. Make Everyday Moments Epic

The Galaxy S9’s Super Slow-mo feature was designed to allow users to capture, in stunning detail, the epic, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that occur in everyday life.

Super Slow-mo increases the camera’s shutter speed to a blistering 960 fps (frames per second), and is capable of recording video that’s four times slower than any other slow-motion mobile technology. Once they’ve recorded their Super Slow-mo clip, users may choose to save it as a GIF, customize it with a favorite tune, or display it as a wallpaper for their home or lock screen.

3. A Low Light Camera That Imitates the Eye

Combining an F2.4 aperture lens with an F1.5, the brightest currently available on a smartphone, the Galaxy S9’s advanced Dual Aperture camera adapts to its environment to allow users to snap stunning shots in any light.

Just like the human eye, the camera automatically adjusts to lighting conditions to allow just the right amount of light to reach the lens. So whether users are enjoying a sunny day at the beach or a birthday dinner with friends, they can rest assured that their images will be crisp and clear.

4. Express Yourself with AR Emoji

The Galaxy S9’s new AR Emoji feature allows users to create their own realistic or cartoon-like emojis using the device‘s facial recognition technology. From a single selfie, the device analyzes a 2D image of you by mapping more than 100 distinct facial features, and then applies that image to a 3D model to generate an avatar that looks just like you and can imitate your facial expressions.

AR Emoji are fully customizable, can easily be shared with others and also used as a wallpaper for the user’s home or lock screen.

5. Instant Insight into Your Surroundings

Samsung’s intelligence platform, Bixby, is deeply integrated into the Galaxy S9’s camera, and utilizes augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide users with a wide range of helpful, real-time information about the world around them.

When the user points their camera at an object, Bixby recognizes what it’s looking at and instantly presents information related to that object overlaid on top of the image. This means that, for instance, a user on a business trip abroad would be able to utilize the Live Translation function under Bixby’s Text mode to instantly translate a menu or sign written in a foreign language, or even foreign currency, in real-time.

6. Snap Standout Shots with Dual Camera

The Galaxy S9+’s best-in-class Dual Camera features a pair of 12MP cameras – an F1.5 wide-angle lens with Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor, and an F2.4 telephoto lens – as well as dual optical image stabilization (OIS) to ensure that photos are crystal clear even when the user has a shaky hand.

The camera’s Live Focus and Background Blur features offer users more creative control over their photos. The former allows them to adjust the depth of field at any point in the photo-taking process, while the latter lets users play with the focus of their photo’s background by applying shapes such as hearts, stars and more.

7. Stereo Speakers Provide Premium Sound

Because our smartphones are often our go-to platform for entertainment, Samsung has complemented the Galaxy S9’s immersive Infinity Display with an equally engrossing sound system.

To make it easy for users to immerse themselves in their content, Samsung placed powerful, AKG-tuned stereo speakers into the bottom and earpiece of the device that produce rich, balanced sound, no matter the volume.
