Samsung Electronics today announced that its Micro RGB TV (R95H model) has received both the Safety for Eyes and Circadian Rhythm Display (CRD) certifications from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a leading global testing institute based in Germany.

Derived from VDE’s broader EyeCare Circadian certification, these certifications adopt a more refined evaluation framework, independently verifying eye safety and circadian rhythm support for a more rigorous assessment of display performance. This shift provides consumers with a more comprehensive assurance of comfortable viewing experiences.

Specifically, the Safety for Eyes certification evaluates display safety for prolonged viewing by analyzing light emissions from digital devices, with a particular focus on blue light and its impact on eye health. Meanwhile, the CRD certification examines how well a display supports the user’s biological clock. It measures the display’s ability to mimic natural light by adjusting color temperature and brightness based on time of day, while also reducing blue light in the evening to prevent melatonin suppression — supporting natural circadian rhythm and visual comfort.

Samsung’s Micro RGB meets the rigorous standards set by both certifications, demonstrating its commitment to eye safety and comfort. The display’s advanced Micro RGB LED architecture is especially noteworthy in that it finely adjusts brightness and color to create optimal viewing conditions at any time of day.

Having secured Safety for Eyes certification for its 2026 TV lineup and CRD for premium models, Samsung is now expanding CRD certification to a broader range of products.

“Micro RGB TV is setting a new standard in the premium TV market by being verified for both eye safety and circadian rhythm support,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to deliver display technologies that consider our users’ viewing environments and enhance their lifestyles.”

Samsung Electronics today announced that its 2025 OLED TV (S95F model) has been officially certified as a Real Black display by the Verband der Elektrotechnik (VDE), a leading electrical engineering certification institute in Germany.1 By meeting the required standards to be genuinely considered Real Black, Samsung has proven that its OLED technology delivers a true black viewing experience.

The certification validates the OLED display’s crisp, reflection-free images with near-perfect blacks measured below 0.005 nits in dark environments, as well as black accuracy in sunlit rooms and even under direct sunlight. The result is crystal-clear visuals with rich, deep blacks in their truest form.

“Earning VDE’s Real Black certification is proof of our commitment to taking OLED technology to new heights,” said Hoon Seol, Vice President and Head of CE Division at Samsung Electronics Germany. “We look forward to bringing more customers the opportunity to experience world-class picture quality with the deepest blacks and color clarity.”

“VDE’s ‘Real Black’ certification is awarded only to displays that excel in our most demanding evaluations,” said Ansgar Hinz, the Chairman and CEO of VDE. “Samsung’s OLED stood out for its ability to maintain rich, accurate blacks across a wide range of lighting environments — from home theaters to brightly lit living rooms. This achievement reflects both technological excellence and a commitment to delivering consistent picture quality in real-world conditions.”

Meeting the Highest Standard for Real Black Validation

The flagship OLED TV series comes equipped with Samsung’s advanced Glare-Free 2.0. VDE’s certification affirms the exceptional performance of this proprietary technology, which preserves the depth and details of the OLED display’s black levels by minimizing reflections.

To earn this certification, Samsung’s OLED S95F series was evaluated on how “truly black” the display appears under various viewing conditions, with performance assessed through three rigorous tests:

Ambient light impact in bright rooms: The display was evaluated for the level of distraction caused by light reflections for viewers while watching TV.2

Black levels in dark settings: In a dark room test, the display’s black level performance was measured to ensure it met the standard of 0.005 nits or less.3

Surface gloss level: Screen surface reflections were measured to determine the amount of glare of Samsung’s Glare-Free Technology.4

Exceptional Color for Gaming and Entertainment

The Real Black-certified OLED series delivers exceptional color clarity and contrast that brings every detail to life, whether in fast-paced games or cinematic scenes. The advanced OLED Glare-Free technology enhances this experience by preserving rich colors and deep blacks in any lighting conditions so that viewers can enjoy stunning, true-to-life visuals no matter the content.

Samsung has led the global TV market for 19 consecutive years,5 a position built on its leadership in premium displays and leading-edge innovations in viewing experiences. In addition to the VDE Real Black certification, Samsung’s 2025 OLED TV lineup is the first in the industry to be certified with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and has recently been validated as NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible, ensuring seamless performance and smooth gameplay.

Samsung Electronics today announced that seven models1 in its 2024 Neo QLED and QLED lineup are the first in the industry to receive both the True Cinema Black and HDR Brightness Accuracy certifications from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a leading German electrical engineering certification institute.

“Technology continues to advance, enabling us to deliver an unmatched cinematic experience right in our customers’ homes,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President and Deputy Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business. “We are committed to setting the highest standards for picture quality in both high-resolution and big-screen TVs, and we are proud that our Neo QLED TVs have earned these industry-first certifications from VDE.”

Bringing Film Colors to Life

Six of Samsung’s 2024 Neo QLED 8K and 4K models, as well as one QLED 4K model, obtain industry’s first HDR Brightness Accuracy certification. This certification assures that these models accurately reproduce the brightness levels of HDR content, staying true to HDR standards and delivering picture quality that closely matches what the human eye perceives.2

HDR technology enhances both the bright and dark areas of an image, providing detailed and realistic visuals that bring films to life. Whether in a living room, bedroom, office or kitchen, Samsung’s Neo QLED and QLED TVs offer customers the opportunity to enjoy exceptional cinematic quality in any environment.

Elevating the Home Viewing Experience

These seven models in Samsung’s 2024 Neo QLED and QLED lineup have also set a new benchmark in home entertainment by becoming the first to earn the True Cinema Black certification,3 which highlights the exceptional local dimming performance. The TVs are capable of transforming wide aspect ratio films into a 4:3 format, fitting the screen precisely without any light blooming, thus preserving the cinematic integrity.

The certification is based on strict evaluations of black levels in the Letterbox area of the screen, ensuring that these areas remain deep and immersive when viewing official footage from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) — within the guidelines of the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®). The superior local dimming performance eliminates unwanted light interference, allowing viewers to experience movies as they were intended, with deep blacks and vivid details, akin to a theater experience.

Samsung’s commitment to innovation and quality has led to the development of TVs that meet the highest standards in the industry. With the True Cinema Black and HDR Brightness Accuracy certifications, the 2024 Neo QLED lineup are poised to deliver an unparalleled home viewing experience so users can enjoy world-class picture quality in any setting.

1 Neo QLED 8K (QN900D, QN800D, QN990C), Neo QLED 4K (QN95D, QN90D, QN87D/QN88D, QN85D), QLED(Q80D, Q80C). Applied models may vary by region.
2 HDR Brightness Accuracy is the cumulative change compared to the PQ standard within the range of 0 to 1,000 nits in HDR.
3 True Cinema Black is the average black level of the letterbox area of HDR video using ASC footage.

To kick off the series, Samsung Newsroom met with the developers and strategic planners of Samsung Gaming Hub,1 which combines the power of streaming and gaming all in one place. From the story of the platform’s development to insights on their favorite games now available on Samsung Smart TVs, the experts behind Samsung Gaming Hub share the inside story of Samsung’s new all-in-one cloud gaming experience.

Power Up Your Gameplay Visuals With the Neo QLED

Samsung continues to lead innovation in Smart TV technology, driven by the goal of providing more and increasingly better entertainment options for consumers. As a result, the company decided to explore new gaming features that could be enjoyed specifically on Samsung Smart TVs.

In 2018, Samsung broke new ground by becoming the first in the industry to implement Auto Game Mode on TVs. Since then, Samsung has led the way in developing Smart TVs focused on leveling up the gaming experience. As a result, for the past four years, Samsung has won the CES Innovation Awards in the gaming category. In addition, Neo QLED proved its technological prowess last year by becoming the first TV to receive certification for Gaming TV Performance from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a well-regarded electrical engineering certification institute in Germany.

The Gaming TV Performance recognition from the VDE is granted based on the qualities of ‘Low Input Lag’ and ‘HDR with a brightness of higher than 1,000 nits.’

Input lag refers to the time it takes for an input command on a gamepad to appear on the screen. The shorter the input lag, the faster the response speed, allowing players greater control over their gameplay experience. The input lag for Samsung’s Neo QLED was 10ms or below in all game segments, meeting or exceeding the evaluation standards across the board.

The TV was also recognized for its technological advancement in HDR as well. Neo QLED provides the optimal contrast by making brighter screens even brighter and darker screens even darker. This technology earned Neo QLED the VDE certification.

What’s more, since last year, the entire line-up of Neo QLED has been equipped with the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro feature — another industry first. The FreeSync Premium provides a soft yet vivid picture quality by reducing or removing input delay, lagging screens and screen distortion while connecting your game console or PC to the TV display. As such, users can enjoy fluid, tear-free racing games with Neo QLED.

The Best of Gaming, All in One Place

With the hardware in place, powerful software is the next step for leveling up any home gaming rig. Launched on June 30th, the Samsung Gaming Hub will be the ultimate home for gaming, using only your TV.

The Gaming Hub is the Smart Hub’s new section dedicated to the latest games. Acting as a go-to streaming platform, the Samsung Gaming Hub displays popular games, recently played games and recommendations just for you — all in one, convenient place. No console is required. Gamers can simply select any game on the screen and play instantly. They won’t even have to wait for the game to download. It’s all there, right away. The Samsung Gaming Hub also supports multitasking, letting users explore videos or listen to music while playing games.

▲ Heej Chung, GEM PM of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

“The biggest advantage is that the users can enjoy streaming games through Samsung Smart TVs and monitors without having to buy any extra gear,” said Heej Chung. “In other words, it’s a comprehensive game service where users can enjoy gaming content and experiences all at once in Samsung Smart TVs.”

“The way we watch videos has evolved from playing VHS tapes and installing set-top boxes to subscribing to OTT services and streaming videos. Likewise, the way we play games has shifted to gaming on the cloud,” said Chung. “Just as Samsung TVs have evolved with how we watch videos, we want to offer a better gaming experience for users.”

The Future of Games, for All

The Samsung Gaming Hub is gaining attention from users worldwide for giving users instant and seamless access to a wide variety of games. By partnering with NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Google Stadia and Utomik, Samsung is offering a selection of games beloved by gamers available on demand.

However, the benefits don’t stop there — the time, money and hassle involved with buying compatible equipment for different consoles, and the lengthy process of installing and uninstalling games for the sake of storage space, are all resolved with the Samsung Gaming Hub.

▲ JunHo Hwang, Software R&D Lab of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

“In the past, we had to buy a separate gear to play exclusive games,” said Junho Hwang. “What’s more, gamers who bought the DL (downloaded) version of games had to delete previously installed games often to secure enough storage to install new ones.”

“However, with the Samsung Gaming Hub, users can explore and play games offered by our various partner companies without buying a separate console,” said Hwang. “Since games are streamed, users don’t need to worry about storage space or installation time at all.”

▲ Jay Park, GEM PM of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

This makes the gaming industry, as anyone can play and enjoy CPU-intensive games, even without a PC. “The Samsung Gaming Hub provides games on the cloud, so users don’t need to worry about minimum system requirements or recommended configurations,” said Jay Park. “With the low latency mode and AI upscaling, we’ve improved performance and resolution, which are the most important aspects of cloud gaming.”

Stream Xbox Straight to Your TV

The news that surprised gamers the most this year was the collaboration agreement between Samsung Electronics and Microsoft. Through the partnership, Samsung’s Gaming Hub became the world’s first Smart platform to include the Xbox app. This means that 2022 Samsung Smart TV user can enjoy Xbox-exclusive games without having to buy a console.

▲ Juyeon Park, GEM PM of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

“I’ve been a gamer since I was a kid in elementary school, so this has been the most enjoyable and exciting project for me. I hope many gamers will feel free to play these games without worrying about buying gear,” said Juyeon Park.

Top Video Game Picks From Samsung Developers

As more and more at home gamers turn to playing games on large, high-resolution screens, we wanted to know — what are the best games to play on Samsung Smart TVs?

Hwang recommends “It Takes Two,” a game where the main characters, Cody and May, work as a couple and try to escape a fantasy world and return to Rose, their daughter. “The storyline has to do with family, and it’s also not so difficult to play either,” said Hwang. “It’s a fun game to play with family members who are new to video games.”

For solo players, Jay Park recommends “Forza Horizon 5,” a racing game chosen by more than 10 million gamers. “The game takes place in Mexico, so it’s great for enjoying the natural scenery abroad. You can also play with expensive cars without worrying about taking care of them, so it’s quite cathartic,” said Park. “I’ve played this game while testing the Gaming Hub, and the time just flew by. I was so drawn into the experience.”

These days, we live in a world where our TV instantly connects us to thrilling action movies, or up-to-date news from all over the world, anytime. While quality gear is important, what matters more to consumers is quality content.

“We came up with the idea of the Samsung Gaming Hub so that anyone, with their friends and family, could start playing games just as people naturally turn on a TV at home,” said Heej Chung. “I hope the Samsung Gaming Hub will be a starting point to deliver the joy of gaming for all users, not just gamers.”

The visionaries behind Samsung Gaming Hub also emphasized their determination to expand content experiences. “We’re going to keep adding more content and updating new features.

Samsung Electronics today announced that its 2022 QLED and Lifestyle TVs have been recognized by leading global certification institutes for eye safety and color technology. The news comes as the company announced its newest QLED and Lifestyle TVs at CES 2022.

The 2022 Samsung Lifestyle TVs won the ‘Eye Care’ Certification from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE) in Germany, one of Europe’s largest technical-scientific associations with more than 36,000 members. The certification applies to Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle TV models including The Frame, The Serif and The Sero. The screens are evaluated on various categories, including ‘Safety’, ‘Gentle to the eyes’, flicker level, uniformity and color fidelity.

(From left) Seokwoo Yong, EVP and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics and Cherif Kedir, President & CEO of VDE

The new Lifestyle TVs were assessed for safety from blue light emission and melatonin inhibition levels based on a light hazard classification method set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle TVs satisfy the IEC’s standards for screen flickering, which can cause eye fatigue or headache for viewers. They were also recognized for excellence in color fidelity and picture quality uniformity, both elements of which contribute to eye comfort level while watching TV.

(From left) Seokwoo Yong, EVP and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics and Wyatt Brannan, Vice President of North America Consumer, Medical & Information Technology of UL

Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle TVs1 were also verified as ‘Glare-Free’ by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a leading independent safety science company. UL’s verification validates the ‘Glare-Free’ claim by assessing the products against Unified Glare Rating (UGR) testing standard set by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). Samsung’s new Lifestyle TV models use a new Matte Display with anti-glare, anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint properties to deliver the optimal brightness and provide the best picture quality without glare.

Disability Glare, which determines whether a TV screen is overly bright when watching TV in a dark room

These glare assessments were calculated based on test results of watching TV in both 300 lux, which is equivalent to a brightly lit work area, and in 70 lux, which is usually the value for a dimly lit work area.

(From left) Seokwoo Yong, EVP and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics and Raj Shah, Vice President at Marketing of Pantone

Additionally, Samsung’s all new 2022 QLED models received the world’s first ‘Pantone Validated’ certification from Pantone, the world-famous brand in the global color industry and creator of the Pantone Matching System (PMS).

These models receiving this recognition from Pantone include all 20 newly released models – 15 QLED TVs in both 4K and 8K and five monitors. Samsung’s 2022 QLED TV line-up was recognized for its accurate expression of 2,030 Pantone colors and newly added 110 skin tone shades.

“As TVs become more of an entertainment hub in the home, there’s an increased demand for screens with top-tier picture quality that minimize eye strain,” said Seokwoo Yong, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “This recognition from leading global institutes validates our technology that delivers best-in-class images along with the most comfortable watching experience.”

Samsung Electronics today announced that its Neo QLED TVs1 became the first in the industry to receive certification of Spatial Sound Optimization from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker(VDE).

Different watching environments — for example, a living room, a bedroom, or a terrace — create different sound experiences. The VDE’s Spatial Sound Optimization certification is given to products that offer a consistent sound experience regardless of the surrounding environment.

To reduce such variation in sound, Samsung has added the SpaceFit Sound feature to its Neo QLED TVs, enabling its products to provide a sound experience consistent to a standard listening environment.

Built-in microphones are utilized to recognize the surrounding environment like curtains, carpets, and walls, which can affect the sound. For example, when the TV recognizes that the carpet in the living room is absorbing the mid-range and treble sound, it calibrates its sound to surroundings by boosting the mid and the treble.

When the TV is placed close to the wall, the bass sound can be distorted since there is little space between the wall and the TV. ‘SpaceFit Sound’ can recognize the issue and reinforce the bass to provide a clearer sound.

As more and more customers seek to personalize their space according to their lifestyles, TVs are being watched not only from living rooms and bedrooms, but also in workrooms, and even in kitchens.

The sounds reflected off the surrounding walls, ceilings, and floors are much louder than the sound we directly hear. This means users can feel the sounds from the same product differently depending on the unique size and shape of the place and wall materials.

While users were previously required to configure the audio manually, ‘SpaceFit Sound’ automatically recognizes the users’ environment so no additional setups are required.

“SpaceFit Sound optimizes the sound from content by analyzing user’s surrounding environment,” said Younghun Choi, EVP and Head of R&D Team of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “What we want is for our customers to just enjoy their TV without any hassle.”

The coronavirus pandemic has been a challenge for us all over the past year and as people have spent more time at home, they’ve also taken on new hobbies and activities. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there’s been a significant uptick in gaming across the globe.

According to a recent report from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), there are an estimated 214 million gamers in the U.S. alone, with 75 percent of households having at least one person who plays. As a result, gaming has become a fun group activity during the pandemic, particularly for those looking to connect with others. In fact, more than six out of 10 players report that they regularly play with others either online or in person.

Gaming’s rise isn’t limited to the U.S., either. Facebook’s “Games Marketing Insights for 2021”1 noted that last year, numbers of first-time gamers reached new highs in countries around the world with 8.6 million in the U.K., 6.5 million in Germany, and 9.4 million in South Korea. Those numbers further underscore gaming’s rise into a top leisure and entertainment activity.

Samsung TV owners are not an exception to this trend as they have also become avid gamers during the pandemic. According to Samsung’s internal research data,2 the number of users in the U.S. who connected gaming devices to their QLED TV nearly doubled from 19.4 percent in March of 2020 to 35.3 percent in March of 2021. In Korea, that number nearly tripled from 11.4 percent to 27 percent during the same period.

Samsung’s 65-inch segment has been the most popular TV size for gaming, and premium models supporting high-end gaming experience, including 120Hz panel refresh rate, were more likely to be connected to the latest gaming consoles. This means that more gamers on consoles such as Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation (PS) are using premium TVs with enhanced gaming features to enjoy optimized gaming experience.

Against the backdrop of gaming’s incredible rise in popularity, Samsung optimized its 2021 TV lineup with gamers in mind. The company’s newest TVs come packed with top-of-the-line features that were designed to foster next-level gaming experiences.

For example, each of Samsung’s 2021 Neo QLED TVs includes support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro3– a technology that enables true HDR console and PC gaming. FreeSync Premium Pro adds to the HDR support, making bright scenes brighter and dark scenes darker to offer optimized contrast. HDR technology is often considered as one of the most important features among gamers. Taking things one step further, Neo QLED’s Motion Xcelerator Turbo+ technology supports ultra-smooth motion in 4K 120Hz, offering users the smoothest way to win.

Samsung’s 2021 Neo QLED TVs are also the first to receive Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker’s (VDE) Gaming TV Performance certification. Four 2021 Neo QLED models (the QN900, QN800, QN90 and QN85) received the certification for their excellent HDR performance, which includes a peak brightness of more than 1,000 nits, allowing for intricate details in both dark and bright scenes, as well as their low input lag with respond time of around 5ms in 4K @120Hz, offering one of the lowest input lags in the industry. Features like these are perfect for both first-time TV buyers and avid gamers alike, allowing users to catch each and every detail of gameplay.

The 2021 Neo QLED lineup’s one-of-a-kind gaming experience is bolstered by the addition of immersion-enhancing features like Super Ultrawide Gameview, along with the all-new Game Bar gaming interface. Super Ultrawide Gameview allows users to experience ultra-wide aspect ratios (both 21:9 and 32:9) that were previously offered only on gaming monitors. This provides gamers with a wider field of view and ensures that they never miss out on any of the action. The Game Bar in Game Mode, allowing players to easily adjust the screen’s aspect ratio, check input lag, connect wireless headsets, and more.

Samsung Electronics announced that the 2021 Neo QLED became the first TV to receive certification for Gaming TV Performance from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a well-regarded electrical engineering certification institute in Germany.

Four models from the 2021 Neo QLED lineup (QN900, QN800, QN90, QN85) received the certification, a distinction given for ‘Low Input Lag’ and ‘HDR with brightness of higher than 1,000 nits.’ Each of the TVs went through a rigorous testing process, ultimately earning the certification for less than 10ms of input lag during every scene of gameplay. Input lag refers to the period of time from when an electrical signal is sent from the game pad to when it is displayed on the screen. A TV with lower input lag will provide gamers with a more immersive gaming experience.

In addition, Samsung’s Neo QLED also received the certification for HDR with brightness over 1,000 nits. FreeSync Premium Pro also adds to the HDR support, making bright scenes brighter and dark scenes darker to offer optimized contrast. HDR technology is often considered as one of the most important features among gamers.

Apart from low input lag and HDR support with brightness of higher than 1,000 nits, Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs also reflect a number of new and exciting gaming features.

Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs deliver more accurate details, deeper blacks and incredible color expression due to their 100% color volume and 12-bit backlight control. Wide Game View and Game Bar, both industry firsts, deliver a broader viewing experience with 21:9 and 32:9, and the ability to quickly check a variety of gaming information.

In addition, Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs deliver fast game motion at 120Hz with Motion Xcelerator Turbo+, even during gameplay with fixed UI. Sound has also been enhanced through AI-based surround-sound and object tracking sound (OTS+), delivering the ultimate immersive gaming experience.

Yonghoon Choi, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics said, “An increasing number of gamers look for large screen displays with high-end picture quality when shopping for a TV, and Samsung continues to lead the TV-focused gaming experience.”
