Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 blends cutting-edge engineering with real-world usability to redefine what a foldable smartphone should be. At just 201g, it is the lightest foldable ever made, posting a significant reduction from the 253g of the Galaxy Z Fold5. This weight reduction is not just a number on a spec sheet; it translates into a device that feels more natural in the hand and easier to carry throughout the day.

The Fold8 is a mere 4.5mm thin when unfolded and 9.7mm folded, with a symmetrical design that enhances its portability and aesthetic appeal. Samsung achieved this by meticulously re-evaluating approximately 270 components and over 180 auxiliary parts to ensure that every element contributes to a lighter, thinner, and more refined device without compromising on performance.

Why Flex Titanium Matters in a Foldable

The engineering behind the Galaxy Z Fold8 goes beyond mere weight reduction. Samsung introduced the Flex Titanium display support plate with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in 2024, but with the Fold8, this technology has evolved into a two-layer system.

The Flex Titanium now consists of an ultra-thin titanium-alloy film beneath the OLED panel and an enhanced titanium plate beneath it. This dual-layer approach allows each component to serve a distinct purpose: the titanium-alloy film provides strength and flexibility close to the panel, while the titanium plate offers structural support and impact absorption. This innovation has resulted in a 10% thinner display module, improved surface flatness, and reduced crease visibility, all of which contribute to a more durable and visually appealing device.

Redefining Durability in Foldables

Durability is another area where the Galaxy Z Fold8 excels. Samsung subjected the device to over 100 reliability tests to ensure it can withstand the rigors of everyday use.

The Fold8 features an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, a Flex Titanium display backplate, and an Easy Open structure for smoother operation. It also boasts IP48 dust- and water-resistance, making it resilient in various environments.

The inner display is equipped with an anti-reflective finish, while the front and back are protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass Ceramic3 Armor2 and Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2, respectively. These materials, combined with a precision hinge made from over 100 components, ensure that the Fold8 remains dependable over years of use.

The Best Camera Set up on a Foldable

The camera system on the Galaxy Z Fold8 is equally impressive. It features a 50MP Wide and 50MP Ultra-Wide setup, powered by the ProVisual Engine for AI-enhanced capture and editing.

The device supports Dual Preview/Dual Recording, allowing users to capture scenes from both front and rear camera perspectives simultaneously. Photo Assist provides a side-by-side view of original and edited images on the unfolded display, making editing more intuitive.

The Definitive Foldable Display

The display on the Galaxy Z Fold8 is another highlight. It boasts a 5.5” cover display and a 7.6” main display, both with up to 3000 nits peak brightness. The Vision Booster technology ensures excellent visibility even in bright sunlight, while the reduced crease visibility enhances the overall viewing experience.

Software-wise, the Galaxy Z Fold8 runs on Android 17 with One UI 9 that offers a seamless multitasking experience. Users can run up to three apps simultaneously with Multi Window, and AI features like Gemini Notebook and Now Nudge enhance productivity.

The device also supports Photo Assist, which uses the unfolded display to show original and edited images side by side, making editing more efficient.

Foldable Battery That Goes On and On

Battery life is another area where the Galaxy Z Fold8 shines. It features a 4,800mAh battery with 45W fast charging, ensuring that users can stay powered throughout the day. Samsung’s first silicon-carbon anode improves energy density, while higher-performance graphite enhances heat dissipation. The Independent Charging Architecture manages power efficiently, reducing heat and stress on the battery cells.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is not just a technological marvel; it is a device designed with real-world users in mind. It represents eight generations of innovation and learning. It is a device that not only pushes the boundaries of what is possible with foldable technology but also delivers tangible benefits to users in their everyday lives. From its lightweight design and durable construction to its advanced camera system and powerful software, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is a testament to Samsung’s commitment to creating devices that truly enhance how we live, work, and create.

Samsung Newsroom took an inside look at the thorough quality tests that set Samsung home appliances apart.

Refrigerators: Durability and Temperature Consistency Throughout

The refrigerator is the most frequently used appliance in the kitchen. To ensure Samsung refrigerators operate in the most demanding conditions, theDoor Slam Testsimulates the act of opening and closing fridge doors tens of thousands of times depending on the model. During the process, engineers assess the hinges for sagging, listen for unusual noises and examine whether the doors continue to function smoothly under stress.

Tests are also carried out to evaluate proper performance throughout the four seasons. TheTemperature Maintenance Testpushes refrigerators to their limits by replicating different seasonal weather conditions — from freezing winters to sweltering summer heat waves of over 40 degrees Celsius — making sure optimal cooling performance is maintained in challenging external environments.

Preserving the freshness of food ingredients, meanwhile, relies on maintaining a consistent internal temperature. Using thermocouples placed throughout the refrigerators and freezers to be tested, theCompartment Test (Notch Test)alters notch settings and simulates variations in humidity and temperature to check whether each product’s compartments and shelves are cooled evenly.

For refrigerator models equipped with automatic ice makers, theIce-makingPerformance Testchecks ice production capabilities and the quality of ice by varying water pressure, temperature and notch placement.

▲ The Door Slam Test (left) and the Water Protection Test (right)

Washing Machines: Ready To Thrive in Harsh Winters and Wet Environments

Washing machines are often installed in areas with lower temperatures or exposure to water, such as balconies or bathrooms. To make sure its products perform reliably under these conditions, Samsung conducts rigorous stress tests.

TheFreezing Testevaluates the durability of Samsung washing machines in the winter by repeatedly exposing the appliances to temperatures as low as those in the Arctic and as high as those in scorching summers. Additionally, engineers carry out aWater Leakage Testto assess the washing machines’ resistance to leaks. They fill the drums with water, place the machines at tilted angles and monitor them for leaks over a period of 24 hours or more under varying humidity levels and different temperatures.

TheWater Protection Test, on the other hand, checks whether the washing machines work properly in wet environments. High-pressure rotating nozzles spray water onto the appliances for extended periods of time, with engineers closely monitoring for water infiltration into electrical components or condensation issues caused by humidity.

Kitchen Appliances: Designed With Product Lifespans in Mind

▲ The Durability Test (left) and the Basket In and Out Test (right)

The lifespans of Samsung electric cooktops under real-world conditions can be estimated through theDurabilityTest. In this simulation, engineers test the durability of dozens of cooktops over several months by repeatedly heating and cooling standard containers on them while the containers are automatically refilled with water.

Samsung dishwashers undergo theBasket In and Out Testto be checked for any defects in their rollers. Engineers purposefully overload the dishwashers’ baskets beyond standard capacity and slide them in and out tens of thousands of times to ensure the quality of their rollers, rails and nozzles.

Every Samsung home appliance is built with one ultimate goal — to give users peace of mind, even in unexpected moments. Samsung will continue strengthening quality control and inspection across its product lines in constant pursuit of unprecedented levels of safety and durability.
