Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. today announced the number of Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones sold for enterprise use has more than doubled year on

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. today announced the number of Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones sold for enterprise use has more than doubled year on year. From January to October 2022, the number of foldable smartphones Samsung contracted to enterprise customers increased by 105% compared to the same period in 2021.[1]

With foldable smartphone shipments expected to reach 16 million units worldwide[2] – an increase of 73% year on year – the form factor is rapidly becoming mainstream, and shipments are expected to grow to 26 million units in 2023. The ease of multitasking on a large screen, and the powerful app optimizations for foldable devices, are helping drive adoption among enterprise users.

Benefits of Foldables for Enterprise Users

As companies shift towards work-from-anywhere policies, they are looking to technology for new ways to maximize productivity. Foldables have particularly attracted the financial services industry, where 74%[3] of a sample group of financial advisors say staying connected via mobile apps is important or critical.

“Samsung Galaxy foldable smartphones were created to open up opportunities for new ways to work and explore creativity,” said KC Choi, EVP and Head of Global Mobile B2B Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics. “This rapid growth in investment demonstrates our enterprise customers’ need for meaningful innovations to enhance workforce productivity.”

The Galaxy Z Fold4 – Samsung’s fourth-generation foldable smartphone – is a multi-tasking powerhouse ideal for business use. Despite its pocket-friendly dimensions, it offers a large, expansive sized screen, making it easier to get things done compared to traditional smartphone screens.

The Galaxy Z Fold4’s expansive screen offers a larger working area, well suited to make the most of features from desktop computers. The perfect tool for juggling multiple tasks and pairs of apps, the PC-like Taskbar enables users to manage, launch and switch between apps, all without interrupting work.

The huge screen space is also a natural fit for working with Multi Windows. The Galaxy Z Fold4 can open up to three apps at once, including two of the same app for side-by-side comparisons. For example, users can respond to Gmail while viewing two Chrome browser tabs, just like working at a desk with multiple screens.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 also adapts to workflow needs. Flex Mode not only provides a hands-free experience for major video conferencing tools, it can now support dedicated e-signature or note-taking capabilities on partner apps using S Pen.[4]

Powerful Partnerships That Enhance the Experience of Foldable Devices

These experiences have been popular across many sectors of businesses and industries. In the current market, competition is fierce, especially in the financial services sector. Professionals need the best tools to help them maintain consistency and routine, even while working remotely.

Their devices must support complex workflows, including alerts, research, charts and portfolios, and give them the power and productivity advantage they need to stay competitive. Working with industry-leading partners, Samsung has enhanced Galaxy Z Fold4’s utility in unique ways, leading to wider adoption of foldables for enterprise use.

It not only requires hardware innovation by placing a camera under a display panel but also requires algorithm innovation for restoring image quality — one of the most complex image restoration problems.

Q: How does the UDC work?

Alok: In UDC, a front-facing camera sits underneath the display. The screen pixel density is reduced in this area, allowing the screen to display imagery unhindered — but at the same time, not block light from reaching the camera when it’s in use. As the camera is placed underneath the display, UDC can suffer from poor image quality caused by diffraction artifacts, which results in flare, saturation, blur and haze. Therefore, while the UDC brings a better display experience, it also affects camera image quality and other downstream vision tasks. These complex and diverse distortions make restoring UDC images extremely challenging.

Q: Why is the UDC an important technology when it comes to Galaxy Z Fold4? What value does it provide to customers?

Seok-Jun: Samsung’s foldables are designed to be new and different, combining smartphone and immersive viewing experiences into one mobile device via breakthrough display technology. When folded, it provides smartphone-like use, and when unfolded, the display provides a more immersive and productive experience. Our consumer research showed that Galaxy Z Fold series users prefer the Cover Screen camera for capturing photos and selfies and the immersive Main Display for more productive tasks like watching videos, playing games and working on documents. Therefore, we thought UDC technology would be the perfect fit to meet their needs for an uninterrupted screen while still being capable of tasks like opening video calls. Samsung has launched the first-ever foldable UDC solution in Galaxy Z Fold3 and enhanced its quality further in the Galaxy Z Fold4.

Alok: Galaxy Z Fold4 truly unfolds a world of immersive display. UDC technology is at the core of the pursuit of a true full-screen display. By combining the leading innovation in display technology with advanced AI techniques for image restoration, Galaxy Z Fold4 provides the perfect balance between screen quality and camera image quality.

Q: How has the camera’s image quality improved since Galaxy Z Fold3?

Alok: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 showcased the world’s first UDC on a foldable. After the market release of Galaxy Z Fold3, one of the key feedbacks from consumers was to make the UDC less visible. On the Galaxy Z Fold4, sub-pixel arrangement was optimized to further hide the UDC.

As mentioned previously, when the camera is placed underneath the display, this can result in poor image quality caused by diffraction artifacts, which cause flare, saturation, blur and haze.

That’s why, in Galaxy Z Fold4, we have leveraged the power of AI, backed with multi-frame processing, to develop a novel computational imaging pipeline for UDC image restoration.

SRI-B, along with Visual SW R&D Group at MX Business, focused on developing AI Image Restoration for photo capture and preview to compensate for optical diffraction in UDC. At the same time, SRA’s Mobile Processor Innovation (MPI) Lab improved the multi-frame computational photography algorithm. Galaxy Z Fold4’s UDC solves key technical challenges in image quality to bring a unique experience to end customers.

Q: Walk us through the journey of the SRA-SRI partnership project. Why did your two teams collaborate?

Seok-Jun: The SRA MPI Lab has been working with SRI-B throughout MPI’s entire history at Samsung, from 2014’s Galaxy Note4 camera commercialization all the way to 2022’s Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4. SRA MPI has been leading MX multi-frame processing (MFP) technology R&D for UDC, Night Mode, Expert RAW and other technology. SRI-B has contributed to all commercialized SRA MPI’s MFP by providing amazing camera software, image quality tuning and resources toward commercialization as well as AI camera R&D. Our 3-way collaboration with MX R&D group, SRA MPI and SRI-B has been a success — especially when the worldwide team used time zone differences effectively to complete milestones on time for such a complicated project. It’s always a pleasure to work with them and deliver Galaxy devices’ camera successes together to accomplish our mutual goal of being the world’s best smartphone camera experience.

Q: Please explain your job role and your team’s contributions to the UDC. How did you contribute to making the best possible user experience?

Alok: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 UDC was a complex R&D project, and SRI-B’s role was to think in terms of end-to-end for the best consumer experience. This required multi-domain expertise and deep collaboration among multiple teams. Experts from SRI-B, SRA-MPI Lab and MX Visual SW R&D Group worked seamlessly to realize an end-to-end UDC experience.

SRI-B also played a key role in utilizing a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to execute the AI model, achieving real-time performance in previews and significantly faster capture processing time than in Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 UDC. Camera previews, video recordings and video calling scenarios need real-time performance without losing any frames. AI-based UDC restoration accelerated with NPU for preview processing was applied for the first time in Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. Although real-time processing was not required, as camera capture requires higher image quality than a preview, achieving better image quality with less processing time was desired for user experience.

Q: What were some challenges you faced while developing this technology, and how did you overcome them?

Seok-Jun: Low light transmittance and light diffraction are the main challenges for UDC camera technology. Still, one more challenge, which is different from a punch hole camera image pipeline, is that UDC capture quality is affected by not only the camera module but also the display panel. SRA MPI’s AI-based 3D ISP algorithm was designed with the needed flexibility to tune the output image quality with the different display characteristics. Having such flexibility in 3D ISP helped to overcome such challenges.

Alok: SRI-B’s key focus was developing an AI image restoration module for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 UDC. These restorations are required for photo capture mode as well as video mode. Video recording and video calling scenarios have strict requirements for real-time processing within the constraints of current consumption.

AI-based UDC restoration was applied for the first time in Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 UDC for video. To achieve a better video quality experience than Galaxy Z Fold3, we had to make the AI model lighter while still achieving good restoration quality. Multiple experiments were conducted in network design and training to achieve good quality in real-time. SRI-B extensively utilized NPU and advanced quantization techniques to prepare a lighter, highly optimized AI model that achieves real-time performance with low current consumption.

Q: What is your vision for future UDC iterations at Samsung?

Alok: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4’s UDC has opened up a new dimension to the smartphone camera form factor. UDCs in the future will enable placing larger camera sensors and multiple cameras at flexible positions without compromising the viewing experience. Another big challenge is towards mass adoption of UDC technology in more products as the main front camera. For this to happen, there will need to be a significant improvement in camera image quality, processing time and display experience.

Seok-Jun: Since the Galaxy Z Fold4 UDC provides a much better experience in terms of hiding the camera under the display and improving image quality, the R&D direction for the upcoming flagship devices will work towards making the UDC completely invisible. This will provide the best uninterrupted immersive mobile display experience while achieving the same image quality as a punch-hole camera.

1 Samsung Research, acting as Samsung Electronics’ advanced R&D hub, leads the development of future technologies for the company’s Device eXperience (DX) Division.

At the latest Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung Electronics unfolded a new future of mobile possibilities with the release of the new Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 — representing a decade-plus journey to reimagine the smartphone to unlock new experiences for users.

As one of the earliest smartphone makers, Samsung recognized that a true innovation does not come solely from the advance in technology itself. True innovation unlocks new benefits that transform consumers’ daily lives and by democratizing the innovations for all.

To help users understand more about the foldable technology from an engineering perspective, Samsung Newsroom sat down with Dr. Won-Joon Choi, Executive Vice President, Head of Flagship Product R&D Team and Technology Strategy Team at Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung Electronics.

As a leader of Samsung’s flagship product R&D team, the Q&A below includes some of the latest breakthroughs and exclusive insights on the fourth-generation of Galaxy Z series.

Read on to learn more about Samsung’s goals for the Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 and the process behind the foldable technology that’s as dynamic as its engineering team.

Q: What is your approach to improving the hardware design of Samsung’s lineup of foldables?

Not only have we accumulated engineering knowledge from the three previous generations of foldables, but we’ve also received customer feedback along the way that has been extremely valuable to advancing the Z Fold4 and Z Flip4. When we address customer feedback, most of the time, we must overcome technological limitations, which require new approaches when compared to conventional bar-type smartphones. To bring foldable technology to millions and make the foldable device category mainstream, we focused on the following areas: enhancing durability for everyday use, providing perfect balance of on-the-go experiences and optimized large-screen experiences and maintaining the ultimate performance which is the fundamental of the Galaxy smartphones.

Q: How does the updated hinge in Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 make everyday use more comfortable for users?

For Z Flip, our users wanted the form factor to be even more compact. For Z Fold, our users liked to leverage both the Main Display and Cover Screen and accomplish tasks one-handed.

So, our solution was to redesign the hinge on both devices. Our previous Hinge design was an engineering feat and enabled the foldable experience we see today. However, we knew internally that we would need to simplify the design to manufacture it at an even greater scale and meet the needs of the mainstream users.

By creating this new hinge, we could further slim down the Z Flip4 design to make it even more compact. It also allowed us to modify the dimensions on Z Fold4. Now, the device has a slightly wider and slightly shorter Cover Screen, enabling a more comfortable experience while typing on the go and doing other tasks on the Cover Screen. While these under-the-hood changes may feel incremental, they go a long way in the consumer experience.

Beyond offering users comfortable use, redesigning the hinge also brings benefits to both manufacturing and longevity. We reduced the number of components by 60%. This is a feat in itself because this means that fewer components could potentially need repair, and it’s easier to manufacture at a larger scale.

Q: Z Flip and Z Fold users love creating content with high-quality cameras. Do the latest devices offer users any new experiences or features?

We took care to upgrade the cameras in both devices. We wanted to give our consumers the advantages of Nightography, first introduced on S22, on both Z Flip and Z Fold. However, this required adding larger camera lenses to bring in more light. By redesigning the hinge, we were able to secure more space for the component that could fit our new camera systems without making the device thicker.

Q: How has the fourth generation Z series been made lighter? How will this benefit the end user?

Over the past several generations, we have been focused on shaving down the weight of Z Fold series. We know this is a critically important factor to get right on foldables because the value proposition of these devices is to offer new experiences without compromise.

This year, we focused on reducing the weight of the display and hinge, resulting in a device that weighs 263 grams, which is 8 grams lighter than Z Fold3 and nearly 20 grams lighter than Z Fold2 (282g). This subtle yet continuous refinement makes a big difference over generations.

To accomplish this, we restructured and optimized number of internal components including display and hinge. Reducing the display weight contributed much to overall weight. We redesigned the structure and materials of the layers and by doing so, the display of Z Fold4 is not only 15% lighter than the previous generation but also 45% stronger. Combined with the redesigned hinge, which is 21% lighter than the one used on Z Fold3, Z Fold4 offers a noticeable difference in weight. This results in a more comfortable, portable and convenient user experience.

Q: Samsung has received feedback in the past regarding Z Flip’s battery life. How has the battery life been extended in the Z Flip4?

One of the biggest pieces of feedback we received from Z Flip3 was about its battery life. Since a foldable smartphone is divided into two parts and joined together with a hinge, naturally, it has limitations to its internal space when compared to conventional bar-type smartphones. However, by making the hinge slim and reconfiguring internal mechanical design, it allowed us to secure extra space for bigger battery. Together with more efficient performance, users are now able to enjoy longer battery life compared to previous generation.

Q: Galaxy users care about having an immersive viewing experience on their devices. How and why has the Under Display Camera (UDC) on Z Fold been improved in this latest iteration?

We created the UDC technology to provide an uninterrupted viewing experience on the 7.6-inch Main Display. This was the first of its kind on a foldable, and with Z Fold4, we were able to make the experience even better.

We reconfigured the pixels on top of the camera to improve the perceived resolution and thus make the camera even more unnoticeable. We changed the sub-pixel arrangement from a cluster-type to a scatter-type, increasing grid pattern visibility and improving the readability of texts. As a result, watching content, playing games and reading are uninterrupted on the Main Display.

Q: The key element to Samsung’s foldables is Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). Can you tell us more about how you created this durable material that can be folded hundreds of thousands of times?

When we developed the first generation of the Galaxy Fold, we made the foldable screens using flexible polyimide. But we knew we would need to make something more durable to make foldables mainstream.

This is how the first Ultra Thin Glass was created. It is a highly complex material that has to come through countless steps from the raw material. We first receive sheets of thin glass, which are thinner than a single human hair, from our partners before they are coated and cut to precise dimensions. Then, we undergo a delicate process of smoothing and polishing the glass surface. This ensures the material is structurally sound and ready for installation. Finally, they are given a strenuous durability test before being added to a Z series device.

Each step has been refined every year to get us where we are today, producing millions of components for our devices durable enough to give our users peace of mind in their everyday usage.

Samsung Electronics today announced its new environmental strategy, a comprehensive effort to join global efforts to tackle climate change. It

Samsung Electronics today announced its new environmental strategy, a comprehensive effort to join global efforts to tackle climate change. It includes commitments to achieve enterprise-wide net zero carbon emissions and plans to use more renewable energy, as well as to invest in and research new technologies to develop energy-efficient products, increase water reuse and develop carbon capture technology.

At the heart of the new commitment is achieving net zero carbon emissions (Scope 1 & Scope 2) for all operations in the Device eXperience (DX) Division by 2030, and across all global operations, including the Device Solutions (DS) Division, by 2050. The DX Division encompasses the company’s consumer electronics businesses, including Mobile eXperience, Visual Display, Digital Appliances, Networks and Health & Medical Equipment, while the DS Division includes the Memory, System LSI and Foundry businesses.

Samsung Electronics has also joined RE100, a global initiative dedicated to pursuing 100 percent renewable energy. As part of this commitment, the company plans to match electric power needs of all international markets where it operates, outside of Korea, with renewable energy within five years.

The new plan builds on Samsung Electronics’ existing climate efforts, significantly expanding the scope of its programs and investments. Samsung will develop new technologies and implement further sustainable practices to enable a brighter future for all.

“The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The consequences of inaction are unimaginable and require the contribution of every one of us, including businesses and governments,” said Jong-Hee Han, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics. “Samsung is responding to the threats of climate change with a comprehensive plan that includes reducing emissions, new sustainability practices and the development of innovative technologies and products that are better for our planet.”

Samsung Electronics’ environmental commitment also encompasses an enterprise-wide effort to enhance resource circularity throughout the entire product lifecycle, from raw material sourcing to recycling and disposal. The plan also details investments in new technologies to reduce emissions from process gases as well as to reduce power consumption in consumer products. The company also plans to explore carbon capture and utilization technologies and tackle harmful airborne particulate matter.

In recognition of the need for innovative approaches around environmental sustainability, Samsung Electronics will invest over KRW 7 trillion in its environmental initiatives by 2030, including reducing process gases, conserving water, expanding electronic waste collection and reducing pollutants. The investment figure excludes costs related to expansion of renewable energy use.

Net Zero Direct and Indirect Carbon Emissions by 2050

Samsung Electronics plans to achieve net zero direct and indirect carbon emissions by 2050, with the DX Division achieving its goal by 2030. By reaching net zero direct and indirect carbon emissions, Samsung Electronics expects to reduce the equivalent of about 17 million tons of carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO2e) emissions based on 2021 figures.

To propel these efforts, Samsung Electronics will invest heavily in innovative technologies for treatment facilities that reduce carbon emissions. The company plans to develop new technologies to significantly reduce process gases — a byproduct of semiconductor manufacturing — and install treatment facilities on its semiconductor manufacturing lines by 2030. Samsung Electronics will continue to expand waste heat utilization facilities and consider introducing electric heat sources to reduce LNG boiler usage.

Samsung Electronics has joined RE100, in a collaborative effort to reduce indirect carbon emissions from power consumption, and aims to match electric power needs with renewable energy by 2050 for all operations globally. As part of this initiative, Samsung Electronics plans to run all operations outside of Korea as well as the DX Division on renewable energy within five years. The company’s renewable energy sourcing methods will include, but not limited to, signing power purchase agreements (PPA), purchasing renewable energy certificates and participating in green pricing programs.

The goal for matching electricity use with renewable energy is 2022 for Southwest Asia and Vietnam; 2025 for Central and Latin America; and 2027 for Southeast Asia, CIS and Africa. In the U.S., China and Europe, which have already matched electric power use with renewable energy, Samsung Electronics plans to move towards expanding renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPA).

RE100 cites Korea, where many of Samsung Electronics’ production facilities are based, as one of the most challenging countries to source renewable energy. This is in part due to the country’s renewable energy market, where procurement options for corporations have begun to expand but remain limited. Additionally, the electric power needs of semiconductor manufacturing facilities have continued to increase with the expansion of Samsung Electronics’ production capacity to meet global demand. However, the company will aim to achieve renewable energy use more proactively, acknowledging the urgency of today’s climate challenges. The company will also strengthen cooperation with different stakeholders, including peers in the technology industry, international organizations and NGOs.

Ultra-Low Power Products and Resource Circularity

Part of Samsung Electronics’ pledge for a healthier planet includes ensuring its products are energy-efficient and use less electricity, while also ensuring that the entire product lifecycle is more sustainable, from raw material sourcing to disposal and recycling.

Ultra-Low Power Semiconductors and Energy-Efficient Electronics Products

Samsung Electronics plans to tap new low-power technologies to reduce energy consumption in every day consumer electronics. This includes development of new ultra-low power memory chips that aim to significantly reduce the annual power consumption of memory products used in data centers and mobile devices by 2025 compared to current products.

The company will also implement low-power technologies in major models of seven consumer electronics products — smartphones, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, TVs, monitors and PCs — with the goal of lowering power consumption levels by an average of 30 percent in 2030 compared to products with the same specifications in 2019.

Going forward, Samsung Electronics will set mid-to long-term reduction targets for value chain emissions (Scope 3). Samsung Electronics will also focus on new approaches to reduce emissions in areas such as supply chains, logistics and resource circularity, as well as supporting suppliers in setting their emissions targets and reduction efforts.

Maximizing Resource Circularity Across the Entire Product Lifecycle

Samsung Electronics will double down on efforts to improve the resource circularity of electronics over the entire lifecycle of a product, from raw material sourcing to disposal and recycling, ensuring that every resource is used with as little impact on the environment as possible.

This all starts with reassessing the use of natural resources in product development. Samsung Electronics has created a new Circular Economy Lab to conduct comprehensive research on material recycling technologies and resource extraction processes from waste with the aim of applying these technologies to maximize resource circularity. In addition, Samsung Electronics plans to establish a system by 2030 in which minerals extracted from all collected waste batteries can be reused.

Also by 2030, the company aims to have 50 percent of the plastic used in its products incorporate recycled resin. The year 2050 will see this figure increase to 100 percent. The Galaxy Z Fold4 has already been designed to incorporate plastics recycled from discarded fishing nets and the success seen here will soon be expanded to additional products.

To address sustainability after product use, Samsung Electronics plans to expand the scope of its electronic waste collection system from approximately 50 countries to about 180 countries by 2030. Through this, the company plans to collect a cumulative 10 million tons of electronic waste between 2009 and 2030, the highest target in the industry and a cumulative 25 million tons by 2050. Samsung Electronics will also actively promote an upcycling program that collects used smartphones and reuses them for other purposes such as IoT (Internet of Things) devices.

Water Conservation and Pollutant Treatment Measures

Samsung Electronics also plans to maximize water resource efficiency. As domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity expands, the daily water withdrawal needs from Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor operations in Korea are projected to double from current levels by 2030. However, the company is committing to maximizing water reuse, therefore keeping actual water withdrawals to 2021 levels.

For the DX Division, the company plans to promote water reuse by improving its water treatment facilities and to restore the same amount of water as it consumes by 2030 through water restoration projects such as water quality improvement and stream restoration.

Simultaneously, the DS Division aims to apply new technologies that remove air and water pollutants emitted during the semiconductor manufacturing process and treat them before being discharged to ensure that they have almost no additional impact on the environment from 2040.

Company-wide, Samsung Electronics plans to obtain a platinum-level Zero Waste to Landfill Certification issued by global safety certification organization Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for all global operations by 2025.

Invest in and Develop Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Future

Samsung Electronics intends to apply the company’s leading technology in addressing global climate challenges. In particular, the company will focus on developing carbon capture and utilization technologies to reduce carbon emissions and clean air technologies to reduce particulate matter, which has become a pressing global environmental challenge.

The Carbon Capture Research Institute was established within the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) in September 2021, the first of its kind in the semiconductor industry. The key mission of the Institute is to develop and commercialize carbon capture and utilization technologies that make it possible to store carbon discharged from semiconductor industrial sites and turn it into a usable resource. The technologies developed by the Institute will first be applied to semiconductor production lines after 2030 and then to other parts of the company as well as its suppliers.

The company will also develop clean air technologies, including new filtration systems, to reduce particulate matter and plans to expand usage to local communities from 2030.

Additionally, Samsung Electronics plans to identify and invest in startups that support innovative green technologies. The company is also committed to fostering ideas and supporting projects that tackle climate change through its C-Lab, the in-house venture incubation and external start-up acceleration program.

Accountability and Tracking Progress

To ensure accountability, Samsung Electronics will have its efforts objectively verified by designated organizations. Its performance will be assessed via participation in the Samsung Institute of EHS Strategy’s certification system and verified by a Carbon Reduction Verification Committee that includes third-party experts.

The company has developed implementation roadmaps for each environmental goal, including the net zero and circular economy targets, and will track progress and ensure robust implementation through the Sustainability Council, chaired by the CEO, and the Sustainability Committee, consisting of outside directors.

As the way we work becomes more flexible, the trend of mobile workers — or those who work on-the-go — is becoming more common. As the popularity of working from anywhere increases, so too does the demand for mobile devices that empower this working style. Consumers have high expectations for Samsung Electronics’ newly-launched Galaxy Z Fold4 as it allows users to expand their workspace, based on the device’s many features.

Samsung Newsroom has put together this guide for users to take advantage of the features of Galaxy Z Fold4, which delivers a lighter, more convenient and more efficient workplace on-the-go.

Do More With Your Smartphone’s Lighter Weight and Wider Display

It’s gotten smaller but wider — Galaxy Z Fold4 is still as compact as ever, with its even lighter weight and thinner hinge and bezels. When you unfold your phone, the device’s even wider display delivers an immersive experience that can transform your current surroundings into a workspace anytime, anywhere. The UDC (Under Display Camera), located under the screen, helps you focus on your work by minimizing factors distracting your field of vision.

Thanks to the device’s 7.6-inch wide screen, you can even conveniently edit documents full of text. Just like using a small tablet PC, you can handle a variety of tasks that are more complex than simply reading or sending e-mails with your smartphone.

Galaxy Z Fold4’s Cover Screen has also gotten wider, making it even more convenient to use. The width of the Cover Screen has increased while the length has decreased, making the aspect ratio similar to that of other conventional smartphones. In addition, the phone has become thinner when folded, providing enhanced grip experience. Thanks to the wider width, you can comfortably enjoy most features, such as typing letters or watching videos, without ever needing to unfold your phone.

Work Efficiently From Anywhere With Enhanced Multitasking Features

The most striking characteristics of Galaxy Z Fold4 are its enhanced multitasking features. Along with the wider screen, the new Taskbar1 feature and Multi-window help you get your remote work done fast and efficiently — as if you are using a laptop.

The Taskbar is a newly added feature, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t familiar. The Taskbar looks and functions just like the layout you are used to seeing on a PC. You can even add frequently used apps to personalize your Taskbar: All the apps saved as favorites on your home screen will also appear on the Taskbar.

You can fully take advantage of the wider display by utilizing Multi-window, which lets you simultaneously view up to three windows on the screen. If you’d like to open another app while using a different application, simply drag and drop the app from the Taskbar to somewhere on the side, top or bottom of the screen. You can also easily switch screens between apps or change the layout with its intuitive UI.

If you have a combination of apps that you frequently use together, then the App Pair feature will help you save time. With the App Pair feature, you can save up to three apps as a single group on the Taskbar. Using this feature will get rid of the hassle of having to launch each app and display each one of them on a split screen.

Use the S Pen to Work With Precision and Speed

With the S Pen for Galaxy Z Fold4, you can precisely control your mobile device as if working with a mouse on a PC. You can conveniently take notes on a large screen just as you would on a tablet, and you can also select only the necessary parts, such as text, links or photos to quickly copy and paste.

Make the Most of Work and Play at Every Angle

With Flex mode, you can make the most of your foldable phone by freely changing the angle according to your needs. For instance, by taking advantage of Galaxy Z Fold4’s multitasking features, you can launch multiple apps at the same time. You can use one window of the screen for a video call and another window to take notes on important information, all while also looking at a meeting material on the screen.

Taking a break is just as important as working efficiently. When it’s time to step away, try turning over your screen filled with work-related apps and instead watching a video on the Cover Screen to lighten your mood. Thanks to the thin bezels and the aspect ratio optimized for the Cover Screen, you can have an immersive experience while watching a video. With Flex mode, you can adjust your Galaxy Z Fold4 to best fit any situation.

Capture Work, Play and Everything in Between

Galaxy Z Fold4’s various features stand out whether you’re on or off the clock. For instance, during break time, you can enjoy watching videos or playing games on a large, immersive screen that brings your content to life. Small but important details such as the UDC (Under Display Camera), where the camera is placed under the screen, help minimize on-screen distractions and allow you to fully dive into the game.

In addition, Galaxy Z Fold4 users can also take advantage of the device’s large screen while snapping pictures. The larger image sensor and upgraded resolution enable high-quality shooting day or night. By enabling “Cover Screen preview,” the portrait can simultaneously check the preview on the Cover Screen while “Capture View” allows you to check the photos taken while using the camera.

Another notable feature that takes advantage of Capture View is the Zoom Map. With larger Zoom Map activated automatically on the Capture View area when the rear camera is magnified by 20 times or more, it allows you to compare the magnified image and the original image ratio side by side at a glance. Typically, locating a subject while zoomed in is difficult, as the quality lowers and small movements come across as very shaky on camera. However, larger Zoom Map makes it possible to locate a subject quickly and easily to capture that perfect shot.

Galaxy Z Fold4 pushes the limits of mobile devices with its wide screen and various multitasking functions. If you’re a mobile worker who values the convenience and flexibility of working from anywhere, then we recommend Galaxy Z Fold 4 for your ultimate experience in on-the-go workplace productivity. However, whether you’re on or off the clock, you can still take advantage of Galaxy Z Fold4 features to make the most of your daily routine.
