Tennis training in India may soon get more accessible, thanks to a pair of young players who are using artificial intelligence to fill the coaching gap

Tennis training in India may soon get more accessible, thanks to a pair of young players who are using artificial intelligence to fill the coaching gap that persists beyond big cities.

Aadish Shelke from Aurangabad and Bhagyashri Meena from Mumbai — both 21-year-old tennis players and Computer Science students at IIIT Pune — have developed NextPlayAI, a platform that analyses tennis videos using machine learning to offer personalised feedback on strokes, footwork and match movements. The aim: to help budding tennis players from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities access guidance that usually requires expensive academies and elite coaches.

The duo’s innovation earned them a Samsung Solve for Tomorrow grant under the category Social Change through Sport and Technology. The platform is part of Samsung’s flagship education programme that supports youth-led tech solutions for real-world challenges. This year, four winning teams received ₹1 crore incubation support at IIT Delhi to scale their ideas.

Shelke said the idea emerged from the reality that tennis remains concentrated in a few urban pockets. “Tennis coaching often feels like a luxury,” he said. “In a city like Aurangabad, high-quality infrastructure and expert coaching are extremely limited. Many promising players drop out because they can’t get the right support at the right time.”

NextPlayAI helps players record their practice sessions and compare them with professional benchmarks — from serve mechanics to racket angles and on-court movement. Meena said the goal is to make tennis learning affordable and accessible. “There is so much valuable footage and data on elite players. We wanted to bring that intelligence to young athletes everywhere, especially those outside big metros,” she said.

Through the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow mentorship, the team refined their approach using design thinking to ensure the tool adapts to different learning styles. “Every tennis player has a unique rhythm and technique,” Shelke said. “The AI has to recognise individuality, not force uniformity.”

The duo now plans to collaborate with district sports associations and tennis academies to pilot the platform across smaller towns. They also want to build a team of developers and players from similar backgrounds — those who know firsthand the challenges of pursuing tennis from outside the mainstream circuit.

“We want to see more tennis champions emerge from places people don’t expect,” Meena said. “Talent exists everywhere — opportunity must too.”

As India looks beyond cricket to build a broader sporting culture, innovations like these aim to ensure that future tennis stars aren’t limited by their pin code.

Building India’s Innovation Ecosystem

Through multi-year partnerships with Startup India (DPIIT), MeitY Startup Hub, and Atal Innovation Mission (NITI Aayog), Samsung continues to strengthen India’s youth innovation pipeline — creating opportunities for young changemakers from every corner of Bharat.

“Over the years, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow has built an innovation architecture that democratizes technology and celebrates creativity from every part of India. This year, too, we witnessed extraordinary ideas emerging from small towns and rural communities — reaffirming that talent knows no boundaries. Our vision is to keep using technology for good — mentoring, resourcing, and empowering these young innovators to build a more inclusive and future-ready India in line with the government’s pathbreaking initiatives such as Digital India and Startup India,” said Mr JB Park, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia.

The jury included experts from Samsung leadership, academia, and government — such as Mr Mohan Rao Goli (MD, SRI-B), Mr Pankaj Mishra (CTO, SRI-D), Mr Yuran Kim (MD, SDD), Mr KY Roo (MD, SRI-N).

Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, has announced the shortlist of 100 teams for its flagship CSR initiative – ‘Solve for Tomorrow’, designed to foster an innovation ecosystem in the country. This shortlist includes 25 teams each from the four themes, who will now compete further in the national education and innovation competition.

This year, participants were encouraged to create solutions across four key themes: AI for a Safer, Smarter, and Inclusive Bharat; Future of Health, Hygiene, and Well-being in India; Social change through Sports and Tech for Education and Better Futures; and Environmental Sustainability via Technology.

This year, the Solve for Tomorrow shortlists have gone hyperlocal, with the programme discovering young innovators from some of India’s most remote districts—including Samastipur in Bihar, Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, Baramulla in Jammu & Kashmir, and Cachar in Assam. The reach and resonance of the programme is evident not just in the geographies covered, but also in the ingenuity of the ideas submitted across all four themes.

Under the ‘Future of Health, Hygiene, and Well-being in India’ theme, participants have brought forward unconventional yet deeply rooted solutions that reflect India’s evolving healthcare priorities. From innovations aimed at improving mental health and diagnosing lung cancer to supporting deaf users engaging in real-time conversations, the ideas are both empathetic and tech-forward.

One solution focused on streamlining ambulance tracking to enable faster emergency responses, while another proposed an integrated system to help locate the nearest hospital instantly. These ideas show that the youth are thinking about health in a holistic and inclusive way.

In the ‘AI for a Safer, Smarter, and Inclusive Bharat’ category, submissions pushed the boundaries of what AI can achieve in everyday life. Young innovators explored solutions to problems like ensuring citizen safety through real-time surveillance alerts, enabling reliable access to clean electricity in remote villages, and building AI-powered systems to respond to stray animal emergencies. Another standout idea aimed to simplify data scraping for engineers and students, making technical research more accessible. These projects reflected a sharp understanding of societal gaps and a bold vision for how technology can bridge them.

The ‘Social Change through Sports and Tech for Education and Better Futures’ theme sparked imaginative interventions at the intersection of inclusivity, learning, and digital access. Shortlisted ideas included sports-based development programmes for children with autism, mobile apps that offer personalized coaching, and gamified learning platforms for underserved students. One group envisioned a social network designed specifically to connect gamers across India—encouraging collaboration, creativity, and community-building. These ideas are not just tools—they’re pathways to better futures through engagement and empowerment.

Environmental consciousness was front and centre in the ‘Environmental Sustainability via Technology’ theme. From combatting deforestation and preserving biodiversity to addressing clean water shortages, the shortlisted ideas took on India’s most pressing ecological challenges. Teams also proposed innovative approaches to e-waste recycling, food wastage management in urban restaurants, and tackling air pollution using smart detection and intervention tools. The projects demonstrate a strong resolve among the country’s youth to heal and future-proof the planet, one solution at a time.

From over 20000 applicants, a total of 168 representing the 100 teams will now gear up for the next phase of the ‘Solve For Tomorrow’ competition where they will be equipped with presentation and effective communication skills through expert training and mentoring. This will help them prepare for the regional rounds commencing mid-July.

What’s Next

At this stage, participants will undergo online training led by thematic experts, followed by a video pitch round where 40 teams will be shortlisted – 10 teams from each theme.

Across cities and classrooms, from the heart of New Delhi to the bylanes of Kolhapur, thousands of students have stepped forward with one bold belief — “I can solve for tomorrow.” Now, as the last leg of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow roadshows draws to a close, the countdown begins for India’s young changemakers to turn their ideas into action.

June 30 is the final day to apply for Samsung Solve for Tomorrow — a national innovation competition for 14-22-year-olds that has already ignited a movement across the country. Launched on April 29, 2025, the programme empowers students across India with design thinking tools, mentorship from Samsung and IIT Delhi experts, investor connects, prototyping support, and a chance to win INR 1 crore.

But more than the prize, what truly defines this programme is purpose.

Over the past weeks, open houses and roadshows have brought together students with extraordinary vision. In Delhi-NCR, students dreamt up mental health apps and AI-driven solutions for pollution. In Gujarat and Maharashtra, ideas around sustainable packaging, heritage revival, and inclusive education found a stage. In every city, one message rang clear — young India is ready to build real-world solutions for real-world problems.

Now, it’s your turn.

If you’ve ever looked at something broken in the world and thought, “Why isn’t anyone fixing this?” — maybe the answer is: because you’re the one meant to.

Whether you want to help farmers with smarter irrigation, build a safer space for teenagers online, or make your city more accessible — your idea belongs here.

Ishita, a student from Ghaziabad, shared, “This was the first time someone asked me what problem I wanted to solve. That changed everything.”

Aakash, a student from Pune, added, “I stopped waiting for the ‘right time’ and started building. Solve for Tomorrow made me believe my idea mattered.”

Their stories are just the beginning. Yours could be next.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is not about being a genius coder or a tech expert — it’s about empathy, curiosity, and the courage to try. It’s for students who dream of a cleaner city, safer roads, healthier communities, and a future where no voice is left unheard.

And if you’re reading this, maybe it’s for you.

Apply before June 30, 2025

This is your last chance to turn your idea into impact.

Let’s build the future — one bold idea at a time.

Let’s Solve for Tomorrow.

Classrooms lit up with curiosity, corridors buzzed with conversations around innovation, and young students stood confidently pitching bold ideas for a better tomorrow. The recent Samsung Solve for Tomorrow roadshows and open houses have been igniting minds across cities, and Delhi NCR was no exception.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, launched on April 29, 2025, is more than just a national innovation challenge. It is a call to action for India’s youth — an invitation to step up, identify real-world issues, and build technology-based solutions that can impact lives. The programme equips students with design thinking tools, mentorship from Samsung leaders and IIT Delhi faculty, investor connects, and prototyping support. It also offers INR 1 crore to the top four winning teams.

As part of the outreach, the Samsung team visited Mamta Modern School in Vikaspuri, Kamal Model Sr. Sec. School in Mohan Garden, DAV Sector 14 in Gurgaon, St. Teresa School in Indirapuram, and WCTM Gurgaon. In these open houses, students interacted with programme facilitators, asked questions, explored case studies from previous seasons, and began shaping their own problem statements.

At the New Delhi leg of the roadshow, the excitement was palpable. Students from schools gathered with ideas ranging from AI-based solutions for senior citizen care to sustainable energy innovations and mental health apps tailored for teens.

Among them was Aarna Kaushal, a class 11 student, who has been deeply moved by the sight of overflowing landfills in her city. Inspired by the programme, she’s now working on a smart segregation system for waste collection. “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow made me feel like someone is finally listening to students like us. I’m not just dreaming anymore — I’m planning, researching and designing,” said Aarna.

For Bhumika Rawal, it was the experience of watching kids around her struggle with dyslexia that sparked an idea. “I want to create a voice-based learning app that helps kids learn at their own pace. The roadshow helped me shape that dream into a project,” said Bhumika, her eyes lit with determination.

The energy in these sessions went beyond pitches and prototypes. Students discussed the importance of inclusion, accessibility, climate responsibility, and rural connectivity. They learnt that ideas don’t have to be perfect to be powerful — they just need to be rooted in purpose.

As the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow roadshows continue to travel across India, they’re not just spreading awareness about the programme — they’re awakening a generation of problem-solvers and change-makers.

India is full of young innovators. Samsung is providing them the tools, the platform, and the confidence to build something meaningful.

With open houses like these, Samsung is doing more than scouting for the next big idea — it’s investing in the next generation of changemakers who believe that solving for tomorrow begins today.

Over the last weekend, 10 young Samsung employees from various parts of the organisation had a unique job assigned to them. They were the jury for the Solve for Tomorrow education and innovation competition in India, tasked with judging the teams that have reached the top 50 in the competition.

Between September 15 and 17, the jury and 118 bright young minds from across 18 states and 1 union territory of India were gathered at the prestigious IIT Delhi campus for a three-day bootcamp where the Solve for Tomorrow participants were groomed on designing thinking and how to pitch their ideas to a jury.

The chosen 50 teams, with youth aged between 16-22, were here for the next phase of ‘Solve for Tomorrow’, where they further developed their ideas to solve the world’s most pressing issues. With the support and expertise of Samsung’s knowledge partner FITT, IIT Delhi, the 50 teams were mentored by trainers from IIT Delhi to help them enhance their ideas.

The three-day weren’t all work with no play. The ‘Solvers’ met each other only to find out how brilliant each of their ideas were. They embraced different cultures, languages and food as it was a house full of diversity with teams from across India.

At the end of the bootcamp, the young jury finally got down to tallying the scores for each team and picked the Top 10 teams that came up with the best ideas in the areas of environmental conservation, making healthcare more accessible to the less privileged, menstrual hygiene for rural women and stress management, among others.

After intense training sessions and pitching by Top 50 contesting teams, Samsung India today announced the Top 10 teams of the inaugural edition of its national education and innovation competition, ‘Solve for Tomorrow’, that celebrates the spirit of innovation, enterprise and social responsibility amongst India’s Gen Z.

A three-day Design Thinking Bootcamp and pitch event was conducted by FITT and Samsung at the IIT Delhi campus. A total of 118 participants attended the camp and made their pitches to a Samsung jury.

The Samsung jury picked the Top 10 teams that came up with the best ideas in the areas of environmental conservation, making healthcare more accessible to the less privileged, menstrual hygiene for rural women and stress management.

Solve for Tomorrow, a CSR initiative of Samsung, had invited applications from 16-22 year-olds in India to apply for this innovation competition to promote a culture of innovation amongst youth, and support ideas that will transform the lives of people and communities. A record 18,000 plus registrations were received in the inaugural edition.

The top 10 teams will now hone their skills further through engagements with Samsung and its knowledge partner FITT, IIT Delhi, improve their ideas, create prototypes, and pitch to an eminent jury at a Grand Finale in New Delhi scheduled for November. These 10 teams will also feature in a TV series that will be produced by the Network18 Group and be telecast on their national channels and OTT platform Voot through October and November.

For the top three winning teams, Samsung will offer a total of up to INR 1 crore in grants, getting them one step closer to turning their ideas into their dream startups that can help address India’s key concerns in the areas of Agriculture, Education, Environment, and Healthcare.

“We are absolutely delighted to see a variety of transformational ideas from these young participants. What warms our heart more is that they come from diverse backgrounds and from every nook and corner of India. A silent revolution is taking place in India today with the rise of an innovation ecosystem, and Gen Z is at the forefront of it. Solve for Tomorrow, our flagship CSR program, will continue to mentor and support young minds who are trying to transform the lives of people around them,” said Mr. Partha Ghosh, Head, CSR, Samsung India.

“A platform like Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow is a stepping stone in building a community of young innovators. The innovation ecosystem in India requires a major push and Solve for Tomorrow is just that platform. Indian youth has the capability and the intent to enable change and we are certain that together with Samsung, we will be able to drive that change for the betterment of society,” said Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi.

Here are the top 10 finalists:

Backyard Creators – The identical twins from Tamil Nadu – Raman R and Lakshmanan R – are developing a non-surgical adhesive hearing device that is cheaper than traditional hearing aid implants and eliminates the need for risky skull surgery. The device is suitable for all ages, does not have any restrictions even for children, and offers speech capabilities post-therapy.

Udaan – An all-girls team – of Prisha Dubey, Anupriya Nayak, and Vanalika Konwar – want to help underprivileged women with their menstrual health. Present-day sanitary pads are both expensive and non-biodegradable. The trio is developing eco-friendly, affordable, and washable sanitary pads using shredded sugarcane bagasse.

Alpha Monitor – Hemesh Chadalavada from Telangana has developed a smart wristband to monitor Alzheimer’s patients and alert their caregivers about changes in their behavior. Himesh’s grandmother was also an Alzheimer’s patient. The device monitors the patient’s health parameters such as pulse and blood pressure. A caregiver and doctor are automatically alerted if the patient gets out of bed and starts wandering.

Able Innovation – The team of Pratik Raghuwanshi and Aryan Thosariwal from Maharashtra has developed a smart aid solution for deaf, mute, and blind individuals called Able Glasses that will help them communicate better with people around them. With the help of patented Bone Conduction Transducer technology, these glasses enable the deaf to hear sound. The built-in camera sensor and speaker will speak for the deaf and mute. Combining it with image processing and AI and machine learning will help the blind to visualize their surroundings.

Sputnik Brain – Shankar Srinivasan from Karnataka is developing a wearable device that helps reduce stress. He is productizing pleasure through safe brain modulation to tackle the global issue of fatal stress and fulfilling the unmet need for a chemical & adverse-effect free tech. His safe brain modulation wearable device for mental health transmits waves within the FDA’s limit of frequency, intensity, and Pulse Repetition Period to mood centers in the brain.

Planeteers – The team of three young women – Riya P Dey, Nikita Pathak, and Akshita Gaba – from Uttar Pradesh is building an autonomous underwater vehicle called Aquarius that is capable of detecting micro-nano plastics inside deep ocean beds and collecting them in an accumulator.

CAD – Rushil Saraswat from Rajasthan is working on an affordable and portable device that can monitor the ECG of a person on the go. It gives a live update through a smartphone app and can even call an ambulance and some contacts if it detects the extreme condition of cardiac arrhythmia.

Biopatch – Hritik Jaiswal and Animesh Kumar from Delhi are developing a patch that one can wear on his or her shoulder or belly to track blood glucose trends and avoid diabetic complications. Their prototype has been tested by endocrinologists.

Samsung India today announced top 50 teams in its Gen-Z education and innovation competition ‘Solve for Tomorrow’. The youth competition, which is running for the first time in India, has seen teams from across the country respond and submit ideas to help tackle problems that India faces in the areas of education, environment, healthcare and agriculture.

In the end of the competition, three national winners stand a chance to get mega support of up to INR 1 crore and mentoring support for six months to take their ideas to the next level under the expert guidance of IIT Delhi.

Entrants who have applied to the competition have taken inspiration for their innovations from all areas of society, including events from the past year, with ideas looking to tackle waste management, electricity and water wastage, plastic waste in the oceans, speech disorders, farm rodents as well as pandemic prediction and creating an affordable ECG device. Many of the solutions that the teams suggested will use new-age technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence and augmented reality.

Among the top 50 teams, 62% want to solve problems of healthcare, 22% want to tackle challenges around environment, 10% are focused on problems around agriculture while 6% want to solve issues around education.

Solve for Tomorrow got over 18,000 registrations from youth across cities, towns and villages who are eager to turn their ideas into action. Ideas have come in from across the country, including small towns, showcasing the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of Bharat.

The chosen 50 teams, with youth aged between 16-22, are now through to the next phase of ‘Solve for Tomorrow’, where they will be further developing their ideas. With the support and expertise of Samsung’s knowledge partner Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi, the 50 teams will be mentored to help enhance their ideas.

In this phase, they will get training on the design thinking concept through online courses as well as at a bootcamp at IIT Delhi. Each of the 50 teams will also be assigned a campus buddy from IIT Delhi during the three-day bootcamp.

Over two days at IIT Delhi, seasoned experts will guide the teams on how to build their first prototype and effectively pitch their ideas in front of an expert Samsung jury on Day 3. The jury will select the top 10 teams for the final pitch event in November 2022.

“At Samsung, we empower and support the next generation to achieve their full potential and pioneer positive social changes. The Solve for Tomorrow program supports the journey of future young innovators by offering them guidance, support and a vision for creating a better tomorrow. We are excited about the 18,000 plus registrations we have received. The top 50 teams we have selected will move to the next phase of the competition and we are keen to see how their ideas shape up going forward, contributing to Powering Digital India,” said Mr. Partha Ghosh, Vice President, Corporate Citizenship, Samsung India.

Along with the bootcamp, the top 50 teams will also be given a certificate of participation and vouchers worth INR 100,000 for online courses in design thinking, STEM, innovation, leadership, among others.
