Out of 23 Samsung Technical Schools currently operational in India, four are in West Bengal at ITI Gariahat (including Women’s Gariahat), ITI Howrah, ITI Kalyani and Women ITI Burdwan.

The MoU renewal was inked between Mr. Deepak Bhardwaj, Vice President, Samsung India and Ms. Roshini Sen, IAS, Principal Secretary, Industrial Training, Technical Education, Training & Skill Development Department in the presence of Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt. Mamta Banerjee, Mr. Amit Mitra, Minister of Finance, Commerce & Industries and other senior government officials at last week’s Bengal Global Business Summit 2018 in Kolkata.

Through the renewal of this agreement, Samsung India also strengthened its commitment to the government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. Samsung introduced an initiative for 1,000 scholarships for women and differently-abled students. This will help augment the number of girls and differently-abled trainees at the schools and would increase the number of women in India’s technical workforce.

Samsung Technical School, which is a part of Samsung’s citizenship initiative, was started in 2013 and aims to support the government’s vision to make India a global manufacturing hub by addressing the need for talented manpower with practical know-how and relevant industry experience. These schools have so far trained over 2,000 youth and made them job-ready across different technical trades. Around 70% of these students have got jobs, 45% of them with Samsung service centres. The initiative is part of Samsung’s ‘Make for India’ initiative and contributes to the government’s Skill India mission.
