It started with a simple question: What if you could measure your nutrition in real-time, right from your wrist?

Samsung’s Antioxidant Index on Galaxy Watch8 transforms what once seemed like science fiction into everyday technology. In five seconds, a thumb scan returns precise carotenoid levels – the industry’s first measurable nutrition index.

By miniaturizing lab-grade sensor technology with exceptional accuracy, it turns your diet into an actionable metric for healthier aging. Establishing this new benchmark in wearable health tracking required years of intensive R&D, countless prototypes and unwavering grit.

Breaking New Ground in Nutrition Tracking

Back in 2018, Samsung saw a critical gap in wearables: we could count every step and calorie, yet there was no simple way to measure how our diet impacted our health. Deeper nutritional insights were locked behind expensive and time-consuming lab tests, out of reach for many people.

As people live longer, the focus is shifting from simply increasing lifespan to improving the quality of those additional years.

“In this context, antioxidation naturally gains attention as a method to slow down aging,” explains Dr. Hyojee Joung, a Seoul National University1 public health nutrition expert who guided parts of the tech’s development. “If antioxidant management is neglected, Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.”

This realization made antioxidants the cornerstone of Samsung’s mission. Engineers and scientists focused on carotenoids – key antioxidants and proven indicators of fruit and vegetable intake – to create a device small enough to sit on your wrist, yet powerful enough to turn complex antioxidant data into simple, actionable health insights for everyone.

The first prototype of the spectroscopy-based antioxidant sensor.

A clinical-ready version of the sensor.

Challenge #1: How to Shrink the Lab-Grade Sensor Technology

From day one, the dream of a nutrition-tracking wearable hit an immediate snag: traditional methods for measuring carotenoid levels like Raman spectroscopy are laser-based, non-invasive and precise, but rely on bulky machines that are far from wearable. So the team’s first mission was to shrink the lab-grade tech into a coin-sized sensor.

After seven years of rigorous testing and optimizing since the first prototype, the team developed the miniaturized sensor, a groundbreaking tech that combines multi-wavelength LEDs with a custom photodetector array to provide accurate carotenoid readings in a compact design.

“Our breakthrough was integrating reflectance spectroscopy with LEDs, which allowed us to miniaturize the technology while maintaining a high level of accuracy,” explains Jinyoung Park, a developer from Digital Health team at Samsung Electronics.

▲ Galaxy Watch8’s LED-PD sensor modules.

Unlike lasers, which emit a sharp, narrow wavelength, LEDs emit a broader wavelength range. By analyzing how much light is absorbed by the skin at multiple wavelengths through photodiodes2, the watch estimates carotenoid levels with impressive accuracy. The advanced algorithms that continuously calibrate in real-time also support precision while delivering personalized insights to each user.

▲ The LED-PD prototype testbed at the back of Galaxy Watch8.

Challenge #2: How to Ensure the Tech Reaches Everyone

Creating a coin-sized carotenoid sensor was a major milestone, but the next challenge was ensuring it could work accurately and reliably across diverse skin types, making it truly accessible to everyone.

To overcome challenges like melanin interference in darker skin tones, Samsung’s engineers opted to use the fingertip for measurements since it has the least melanin across all ethnic groups. They also added simple tweaks, like light fingertip pressure during scans, which helps temporarily reduce blood flow and hemoglobin interference, making the results more accurate.

Extensive trials conducted at Samsung Medical Center3 included hundreds of participants, validating the sensor’s performance. This paved the way for a feature that seamlessly transitioned from the lab to users worldwide, offering an inclusive solution designed for everyday life.

How It Works

Carotenoids are the natural red, yellow and green pigments found in fruits and vegetables. Since our bodies can’t produce carotenoids on their own, the levels stored in the body offer a clear snapshot of how much fruit and vegetables someone has been eating.

This is where your Antioxidant Index score comes in, reflecting your carotenoid levels based on these categories:

Very low: Less than 50% of the daily WHO recommendation of 400g per day.

Low: Between 50%–100%.

Optimal: 100% or more.

“Skin carotenoids metabolize and accumulate in tissues gradually, so short-term changes in fruit and vegetable intake won’t immediately appear in the score,” explains Dr. Hyojee Joung. “Our research shows that increased carotenoid intake leads to a meaningful rise in skin carotenoid levels after about one to two weeks, making the Index a valuable tool for tracking consistent, long-term dietary habits.”

Lifestyle factors like sleep quality, stress levels, and physical activity also influence the Index, making it a well-rounded indicator of overall health. Paired with other Galaxy Watch8 features like sleep coaching, activity tracking and Vascular Load monitoring, the Antioxidant Index offers a holistic view of your well-being, empowering smarter decisions for healthier aging.

▲ The Antioxidant Index feature measures carotenoid levels in seconds with the sensor on the back of the Galaxy Watch8 and provides additional nutritional insights on paired Galaxy smartphones.

Your Health, Reimagined

“New wearable sensors can play a role in helping people build healthy eating habits by tracking and encouraging sufficient daily intake of fruits and vegetables,” says Professor Yoonho Choi from Samsung Medical Center. “Over time, this simple practice can help prevent some cancers and other age-related diseases, making it a very effective way to support long-term health.”

Antioxidants are an emerging area of focus, but research has been limited due to the challenges of accurate measurement. Galaxy Watch8’s Antioxidant Index goes beyond current industry developments and delivers meaningful innovation.

Samsung’s ability to measure antioxidant levels with precision, acknowledged by experts as a benchmark for future research, represents a breakthrough in health monitoring. By helping users identify risks early and take proactive steps towards better health, Samsung is paving the way for a smarter, more proactive approach to wellness and redefining the role of wearables in preventative healthcare.

Now, it’s your turn.

If you’ve ever looked at something broken in the world and thought, “Why isn’t anyone fixing this?” — maybe the answer is: because you’re the one meant to.

Whether you want to help farmers with smarter irrigation, build a safer space for teenagers online, or make your city more accessible — your idea belongs here.

Ishita, a student from Ghaziabad, shared, “This was the first time someone asked me what problem I wanted to solve. That changed everything.”

Aakash, a student from Pune, added, “I stopped waiting for the ‘right time’ and started building. Solve for Tomorrow made me believe my idea mattered.”

Their stories are just the beginning. Yours could be next.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is not about being a genius coder or a tech expert — it’s about empathy, curiosity, and the courage to try. It’s for students who dream of a cleaner city, safer roads, healthier communities, and a future where no voice is left unheard.

And if you’re reading this, maybe it’s for you.

Apply before June 30, 2025

This is your last chance to turn your idea into impact.

Let’s build the future — one bold idea at a time.

Let’s Solve for Tomorrow.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, a national innovation challenge for 14-22 year olds, is transforming campuses in Bengaluru into launch pads of the future.

Launched on April 29, the latest season of the innovation contest is spreading across India through a series of design thinking workshops and Open Houses—reaching not just major metros but also the vibrant heartlands of the Northeast. The programme encourages youth to identify real-world issues in their communities and develop meaningful tech-based solutions.

This year, the programme will offer INR 1 crore to the top four winning teams, along with opportunities for hands-on prototyping, expert mentorship from Samsung leaders and IIT Delhi faculty, and valuable investor connects—giving young minds the support they need to bring their ideas to life.

In Bengaluru, more than 3,000 students from five leading schools and colleges came together this month to dream big, think bold and build solutions for India’s future. As part of the programme’s roadshows and open houses, classrooms were transformed into buzzing hubs of ideas and inspiration.

From medical colleges to high schools, the message was clear: young Indians are ready to step up and solve real-world problems—armed with empathy, technology and a passion to bring meaningful change.

At Dr Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education and Research, students gathered to explore how health and innovation intersect. For Ritwika, the experience was transformative.

“The workshop helped me understand how to really think—not just of ideas, but of how to plan and build them. I’ve always been bothered by how we manage waste around us. Now, with Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, I want to work on better waste segregation systems. It made me realise that we’re not just students—we can be problem solvers.”

Similar energy echoed through Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, where Rudra left the workshop thinking not just as a medical student, but as a changemaker.

“I finally understood what design thinking really means,” he said. “It’s not just a process—it’s a mindset. I want to work on ideas around energy conservation that help society at large. This programme gave me the clarity I needed to start.”

The spark wasn’t limited to colleges alone. In schools like National Centre for Excellence, Sandeepani School, and AECS School, younger students were just as fired up to bring change.

Deeksha, a student passionate about the environment, found her path through technology.

“I used to think solving environmental problems needed years of research. But this workshop taught me to first define the problem clearly—and then start thinking of practical solutions. With Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, I want to build tech-based solutions for sustainability. There’s so much scope here—and I believe I can make a difference.”

The programme is not just about problem-solving—it is also about planting the seeds of entrepreneurship. For Anish, the workshop became the launchpad for a bigger dream.

“Before this, I didn’t know where to begin. But Samsung Solve for Tomorrow gave me the foundation to think like a founder. I want to work on issues around wildlife conservation and eventually start up in this space.”

Across each workshop, one thing was consistent—the commitment Samsung has made to empower India’s youth, encouraging them to look at their communities, identify pressing problems, and innovate with purpose.

As the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow roadshows wrap up in Bengaluru, they leave behind not just filled notebooks, but lit-up minds—ready to reimagine India, one solution at a time.

In India’s tech capital, where innovation pulses through the city’s circuit, a new generation of coders is quietly redefining what it means to be future-ready. And leading this transformation is the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC)—a flagship Samsung CSR initiative that’s not only teaching students how to code but empowering them to lead, solve, and innovate.

Built on the belief that technology is a tool for transformation, SIC provides training in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Coding & Programming, and essential soft skills. But beyond the curriculum lies the real impact: confidence, curiosity, and courage.

That impact was on full display recently at two major national hackathons, where students trained under SIC by Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore (SRI-B) emerged as clear standouts—winning accolades, solving real-world problems, and proving that talent, when nurtured, can shine on any stage.

Winners at HackToFuture 3.0

The momentum didn’t stop there. At the Dynamic Hackathon, organized by Dynamic Crane Engineers Pvt. Ltd. and i4C, students were challenged to solve real industrial problems through technology. Out of 550+ participating teams, only 18 reached the finals. The ultimate winners? A team of six—Integrated Innovators BLR—with five members hailing from the SIC.

Learning That Goes Beyond the Lab

What’s driving this success? According to the students, it’s not just about mastering code—it’s about learning how to think.

“The sessions were structured in a way that bridged theory with real-world application,” said Vaishnavi, from Team Code Brigade. “It wasn’t just about syntax—it was about strategy.”

That blend of technical knowledge and critical thinking was a recurring theme across the hackathon teams.

“The IoT course at SIC changed how I approached problems,” said Mahendra of Integrated Innovators BLR. “I began to see the connection between hardware and software, and how they come together to solve real issues.”

Mahanthesh, another winner, credited SIC with transforming classroom concepts into real-world readiness. “We weren’t just prepared for a test—we were prepared for the tech industry,” he said.

Winners at Dynamic Hackathon

Training Future Innovators, Not Just Employees

SIC’s emphasis on collaboration, adaptability, and innovation helped students not just compete—but thrive—under pressure.

“We knew how to break problems down, assign roles, and stay calm,” said Mohammed Yusuf, a finalist. “That made all the difference during the hackathon.”

For others, SIC became a platform for leadership.

“The design thinking and prototyping lessons helped us take bold decisions confidently,” noted Kishan.

“Winning one hackathon was exciting—but applying that learning to win another showed us we were building something bigger,” added Kirana GV, who competed and won in both events.

A Growing Network of Talent

Since its inception, SIC under SRI-B has partnered with leading institutions such as:

· BNM Institute of Technology

· Cambridge Institute of Technology (Main & North Campuses)

· RNS Institute of Technology

· KLE Institute of Technology

· GSSS Institute for Women, Mysuru

· IIIT-Kurnool

Over 1100 students have been trained through the initiative across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Building the Future, One Line of Code at a Time

As India’s digital economy surges ahead, the demand for skilled, industry-ready talent is higher than ever. Programmes like SIC are meeting that need—not with routine instruction, but with inspiration.

And when young coders are empowered with the right tools and mindset, they don’t just build apps—they build the future.

A quiet revolution is underway. With Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Season 4 in full swing, India’s youth is rising to the challenge with ideas that aim to transform lives, communities, and the country.

After a successful launch earlier this year, the programme has now entered a dynamic phase: Design Thinking Workshops for school students and Open House sessions for college innovators. These events are not just about learning, they are about sparking a mindset shift, nudging young minds to see problems as opportunities and innovation as a way of life.

With roadshows already underway in nine cities – New Delhi, Gurugram, Jaipur, Patiala, Ludhiana, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ranchi and Sonepat, the excitement is palpable. Thousands of students from 20 schools and colleges have participated so far. And this is just the beginning. Samsung plans to take this initiative to every corner of India, including the North East.

“Solve for Tomorrow is important because it gives students the tools and mindset to identify real problems around them and create practical, innovative solutions, something traditional classrooms often miss,” said Dr. Ashish Dwivedi, a faculty member at O.P. Jindal Global University, which recently hosted a Design Thinking Open House.

At the university, curious students spent the day immersed in the design thinking process. The energy in the room was electric. Ideas were born, problems dissected, and visions shared. The students emerged inspired, transformed, and ready to take on the world.

“It helped turn a vague idea into a clearer, actionable solution,” said Aditya Naresh, a student at O.P. Jindal Global University.

Similarly, another student, Riddhima Sharma said that she learnt how to work in a team and listen to different perspectives while solving a problem.

In schools, the Design Thinking Workshops from Samsung left an equally indelible mark.

Young minds at work during a Design Thinking Workshop at a school

“The workshop conducted by Samsung and FITT-IIT Delhi has been really insightful,” said Surbhi, a teacher at ITL Public School, Delhi. “Many students from the first batch have already approached me for help with the application process.”

At Mother’s Mary School in Delhi, the girls of Classes 9 and 10 are dreaming big.

Aanya, for instance, wants to build an AI-powered app to help design sustainable homes, while Kritika is working on an eco-friendly Kindle to replace school textbooks. Interestingly, Kriti, a Class 12 student, is exploring safer menstrual products to prevent cervical cancer, all under Solve for Tomorrow’s key themes.

The passion to solve and lead, is just about as fierce among college students.

“There are many problems in the world but very few solvers,” said R. Deepika, a Business Analytics student at University of Hyderabad. “This workshop made me want to be one of them.”

“It’s helped me figure out how to build a startup and chalk out my ideas better,” said Sawan Kesari from the BA programme at University of Hyderabad. “I want to improve diagnostic services in rural India through telemedicine.”

With roadshows already underway in nine cities, the excitement is palpable as students queue up to apply for Solve for Tomorrow 2025

The clarity and purpose with which these students are identifying community problems is nothing short of inspiring. Whether it’s Aditya’s mission to make clean drinking water accessible in rural areas, Riddhima’s drive to tackle plastic waste, Prerna’s dream of assistive devices for visually impaired students, every idea echoes the larger purpose of Solve for Tomorrow, to empower the next generation of changemakers.

“Our students are eager to connect with mentors and experts through Solve for Tomorrow to bring their ideas to life.” said Poonam Verma, Principal of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.

The application window for the initiative will be open till June 30, 2025.

After the initial application phase, the top 100 teams will be chosen, with 25 teams selected from each of the themes. At this stage, participants will undergo online training led by thematic experts, followed by a video pitch round where 40 teams will be shortlisted – 10 teams from each theme.

With thousands of students now engaged and more joining each week, Solve for Tomorrow is no longer just a competition, it’s a national innovation movement.

In India’s rapidly evolving tech landscape, young women are coding their way into the future. At Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC), they aren’t just learning about technology; they’re using it to break barriers, turn ideas into reality, and carve out their own success stories.

Aligned with the Government of India’s #SkillIndia and #DigitalIndia initiatives, Samsung Innovation Campus focuses on improving employability of the youth by training them in high-demand tech fields such as AI, Internet of Things, Big Data and Coding & Programming.

It’s a launchpad for aspirations, equipping students with the knowledge, confidence, and real-world exposure they need to thrive in the industry.

Turning Knowledge into Innovation

Samsung Innovation Campus was launched in India in 2022 in partnership with the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI). Certification of 3,500 students was completed under the programme for the year 2024.

Among these, are Kanchan Lata, Avantika Tripathi, Yashasvini R and Divya Bhakt, who trained at Samsung Innovation Campus and are now charting their own path.

For Kanchan Lata Srivastava, a B.Tech student at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, the program became a steppingstone into the world of machine learning. With her expertise in Python and OpenCV, she built a Driver Drowsiness Detection System, a project aimed at improving road safety. “This journey has not only strengthened my technical skills but also fueled my passion for semiconductor research,” she said.

Similarly, Avantika Tripathi, a final-year student specializing in software development and data science, used her training to sharpen her competitive coding skills. She went on to secure top rankings in StackHack 2.0 and GFG Weekly-148, proving that young women can stand tall in the world of hackathons and coding challenges. “The exposure I got helped me explore UI/UX design and competitive coding, and now I aspire to work at a company that truly values innovation and diversity,” she said.

For Yashaswini R, from SJP Bangalore, the hands-on learning experience at Samsung Innovation Campus transformed her passion into tangible skills. She developed an automated Smart House project during her diploma in Electronics and Communication, which paved the way for her upcoming internship at Tata Electronics. “The program gave me the confidence to push my limits in IoT, circuit design, and automation. Now, I know exactly where I want to go,” she said.

Not all dreams in technology lead to corporate careers—some aim to shape the next generation. Divya Bhakt, an MCA student from Lucknow, is one such trailblazer. With her deep interest in physics, mathematics, and computer science, she is preparing for the NET JRF qualification, with hopes of becoming a professor. “I want to bridge the gap between academia and industry so that more young women can take the leap into STEM fields,” she says with determination.

A Future Led by Women in Tech

Samsung Innovation Campus is not just teaching technology—it’s rewriting the narrative of women in STEM. By providing the right mentorship, resources, and real-world applications, it is creating a space where talent, ambition, and innovation thrive, regardless of gender.

At Samsung, we are proud to be a part of their success stories—helping them soar, one innovation at a time.

Samsung has kicked off Samsung Digithon 2024, the annual flagship initiative designed to spark creativity, foster a digital culture, and drive forward-thinking solutions within the organization.

From August through September 2024, Samsung employees across Samsung Southwest Asia regions will dive into the heart of Digithon, a platform that challenges them to tackle critical business problems with a ‘Digital First’ mindset. This year’s Digithon, culminating in a grand finale on September 25th, is not just about finding solutions; it’s about nurturing the innovative spirit that drives Samsung forward.

Why Digithon Matters

At Samsung, innovation is more than just a buzzword—it’s a way of life. Digithon is a testament to Samsung’s commitment to the growth of employees. By participating, employees don’t just solve problems—they step into the spotlight to present their ideas to senior leaders. This exposure provides invaluable learning experiences and networking opportunities, aligning with our vision of building a culture of innovation and ensuring that our business remains future-ready.

The talent development experts are dedicated to enhancing the structured problem-solving capabilities of participants. Through a modular learning programme, employees receive 10 hours of virtual training that equips them with the skills to present their ideas effectively. This support is crucial in helping them translate their creativity into actionable, impactful solutions.

“At Samsung, our greatest asset is our people. Through initiatives like Digithon, we reaffirm our commitment to their continuous development and to foster a vibrant and innovative workplace. We are excited to see the groundbreaking ideas that will emerge this year and to celebrate the incredible talent within our ranks,” said Rishabh Nagpal, Head, People Team, Samsung India.

A Platform for Growth

One of the most exciting aspects of Digithon is the opportunity for employees to showcase their original ideas. This year, participants will submit their proposals based on business themes provided by the company, demonstrating their ability to merge innovative thinking with real-world business challenges.

Teams will be evaluated on several parameters including business value, cost efficiency, level of innovation, and sustainability of their ideas. These criteria ensure that every submission is assessed not just for creativity, but for its potential to make a tangible impact on our business and our customers.

Looking Ahead

Digithon started with 51 teams participating in the competition with over 100+ employees. We now have the Top 7 qualifying teams making it to the Finale

As for the finale, the top three teams will be awarded prizes of INR 75000, 50000 and 25000 respectively, recognizing their exceptional contributions. But beyond the prizes, the true reward lies in the connections forged and the ideas brought to life.

Digithon embodies our larger vision of cultivating a culture where digital innovation thrives and where every employee is empowered to contribute to our collective success. By encouraging our team members to think boldly and act digitally, we’re not just solving today’s challenges—we are paving the way for tomorrow’s opportunities.

Here’s to a successful Digithon and to a future shaped by the power of innovation!

We are celebrating Samsung Electronics’ 54th foundation anniversary. It is a celebration of our heritage of innovation, culture and technology. For more than five decades, we have been enabling people to transform their lives because true progress happens only when everyone is empowered.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and South Korea. We have been a committed partner to the India growth story since the winter of 1995, when we opened a small office in New Delhi. Today, Samsung has two manufacturing facilities, five R&D centres and one design centre. We are committed to creating jobs, building a culture of innovation through advanced technologies, and giving back to society by becoming a fabric of India.

It has been such a wonderful journey in this beautiful country. There is so much diversity around not only in terms of language, culture and food but also in terms of climate, and ecology. Besides this diversity, it’s the demography that serves to inspire. India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35. And, it is the youth, and their indomitable spirit of innovation, that will drive the country’s growth.

What is really inspiring is that the youth is constantly trying to find solutions to challenges they see around them. Since these solutions come from their own life experiences, it touches many lives and is therefore more impactful.

I witnessed it first hand when we recently concluded the second year of our Flagship CSR programme, Solve for Tomorrow. The Top 10 teams, representing 25 young innovators, did not come from only the large metropolises but also from some of the remotest towns in India. They came from towns and cities as diverse as Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, Lakhimpur and Golaghat in Assam, Darjeeling in West Bengal, Surat and Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Ernakulam in Kerala – besides of course Chennai and Delhi.

Earlier this year, Samsung Innovation Campus students from the University of Lucknow graduated in AI, IoT, Big Data, Coding & Programming courses in the presence of Shri Yogi Adityanath, Honourable Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh. It was such a proud moment for me to see these students, some from even far off villages in the state, to be ready for the challenges of the future. Samsung Innovation Campus seeks to bridge the gap between college and career.

Shri Yogi Adityanath, Honourable Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh present at the Samsung Innovation Campus Certification Ceremony

We believe the youth from the smallest corners in India have unlimited potential. They have the power to ideate and innovate to solve the biggest challenges in the world.

At Samsung, our Global CSR vision is ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People’. With this vision, we want to enable the youth to bring local solutions for global problems. Our Citizenship programmes are inspired by our corporate vision of ‘Powering Digital India’, where we are focusing on the youth of India and empowering them with Smart Education and Upskilling.

Solve for Tomorrow

Solve for Tomorrow is a nationwide education and innovation competition for the Gen Z. We launched it in India in 2021 with the aim of turning the youth’s ideas into action. We were on the lookout for ambitious 16-22 year olds who could solve global issues with game-changing tech solutions. Our winners came from the big cities in India with the most innovative solutions to their problems. In the second year, the competition got overwhelming submissions from youth across cities, towns and villages, symbolic of the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of Bharat.

Young women in Jammu after submitting their applications for Solve for Tomorrow Season 2

Significantly, ideas in Solve for Tomorrow align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They focus on diversity and inclusion, environment and sustainability, education and learning & health and wellness. And, we are seeing a strong community of solvers emerge.

Top 3 winning teams of Solve for Tomorrow Season 2

At a time when the world is constantly stressing over global challenges, especially those around climate change, the solution-driven attitude that the GenZ showcased, made the dream of a sustainable future seem much closer than ever.

Samsung Innovation Campus

We also have a programme engaging with the youth of India to prepare them for a digital future. We call it the Samsung Innovation Campus. With this CSR initiative, we aim to upskill youth aged 18-25 years in future technologies and enhance their employability. These are key technology skills for the youth to excel in their fields.

Launched in India in 2022, Samsung Innovation Campus imparts Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data and Coding & Programing courses to the youth. Along with job-ready courses, it also offers hands-on industrial training, expert mentoring and soft skills training to students.

The programme is currently being run in eight cities in India, training 3,000 students on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), to become thorough professionals in their respective fields.

All-girls batch of Samsung Innovation Campus at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh

It was really gratifying to see an all-girls batch of Samsung Innovation Campus at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. This tied in with our focus on creating opportunities for women in STEM. This initiative at Visakhapatnam sought to provide these young girls not just exposure and mentorship but also a supportive community. These elements are essential in inspiring and empowering more girls to pursue and excel in STEM.

STEM is the language of the future and we want to support each one of them with the best skill-sets, especially young women, and I am excited to see their journey. I have been told about the experiences of various young women who have benefited from Samsung Innovation Campus.

For instance, Medapati Vijaya, a student of our Samsung Innovation Campus in Visakhapatnam, has been using her AI learnings in her civil engineering projects on rolling bridges. Similarly, her classmate Preethi is implementing AI in real time projects so that when they step out of college, they are ready with an entrepreneurial mindset. These young women are carving a niche for themselves in the field of STEM with the help of Samsung Innovation Campus.

Creating equal opportunities for all

At Samsung, we take the idea of equal opportunities very seriously. We recognize that not each youth of the country will have access or the resources to turn their ideas into innovations. This is where the idea of equal opportunities for all germinates. We want to bridge that gap, channelize their energy and aspirations and continue to create the leaders of tomorrow.

We are inspired to give wings to every dream in this country and enable ‘smart education’, imbibing a tech-led approach, for future generations. Our overarching mission is to focus on STEM education by giving the youth an opportunity through various platforms of their choice. We then take their learnings to the next level by providing end to end support. For instance, we also provide a cash prize for the top three winners of Solve for Tomorrow to take their ideas to fruition.

I strongly believe that our youth-centric citizenship programmes, Solve for Tomorrow and Samsung Innovation Campus, which involve students and academia from across the country, will help build and proliferate a stronger innovation ecosystem in the country. It will also prepare our youth to meet the challenges of a digital future and realize their full potential.

For the last 54 years, we are doing our bit every day to develop a culture of breaking boundaries in ideation, innovation and problem solving. Given the critical challenges of our era, ranging from technological obsolescence to the risks arising out of climate change, innovative thinking would be a critical moat. I see the youth playing a central role in addressing some of these issues and drive change with critical thinking by harnessing the power of digital technologies. Given the talent I have witnessed in the youth at both our CSR programmes, I am confident that we have a very bright future ahead of us.
