“We have been launching such drives across the country and have seen massive participation from our regional offices as well. As a responsible corporate, we believe in preserving the environment for future generations. Electronic waste collection, plastic waste management or such cleanliness drives are all steps taken towards preservation and protection of the environment,” said Sameer Wadhawan, Head of Human Resources at Samsung India.

Over 100 employees participated in this Care for Clean India drive. Armed with cleaning gloves and garbage bags, the group took it upon themselves to rid the park of non-biodegradable waste.

“I am happy that we got the opportunity to participate in this noble activity. At Samsung, we believe in co-prosperity and giving back to the community,” said Jeon Woosung, Customer Satisfaction Team.

In the past, the company has organized tree plantation drives, plastic waste management campaigns across the country that have seen huge participation from employees. Samsung has been pro-actively taking measures to motivate its employees to become more environment conscious through such initiatives.

Love and respect for the environment is instilled in all Samsung employees. They are encouraged to take up projects that help create a greener and cleaner world.

Recently, Samsung employees in Tirupati in southern India, organized a road show covering 47 kilometers to spread mass awareness about Plastic Waste. They cleaned the city and planted trees.

In Vijayawada, another southern Indian town, Samsung employees organized a road rally and waste collection drive to spread awareness about environmental conservation. Employees marched with placards and banners with messages on protection of the environment, all of which were made of eco-friendly material. A sapling plantation drive was organized as well.

Employees in Chennai participated in a Walkathon to spread the message about the hazards of irresponsible disposal of e-waste and plastic waste.

It was heartening to see even school children, teachers and families of employees join in the activities. For instance, in Bengaluru, a school teacher who participated in a painting competition said, “Samsung is a brand that young people look up to. When they send the right message to this generation, it will definitely result in a positive change.”

Samsung has two manufacturing units in India, one of which is located in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. It has three R&D centres here. The R&D centre in Bengaluru is the largest outside Korea. Bengaluru is also home to Samsung Opera House, the World’s Largest Mobile Experience Centre.

Improper handling of this waste is harmful to the environment and also to the people handling the waste. It is important that this electronic waste is disposed in a responsible manner and this responsibility lies with us.

October 14 is the International E-waste Day and Samsung India employees came forward to celebrate this special day. Electronic waste collection bins were set-up in the Samsung Head Office. Employees queued up in huge numbers with electronic waste of different kinds. In return for all the waste they gave away, all employees were gifted saplings and plant seeds. The activity saw great participation and met with immense enthusiasm.

“As users of technology, we cannot be careless about the disposal of the waste. The gift of saplings make it all the more special,” said Shraddha Upadhyay from the Communications team.

In the Samsung Head Office alone, over 100 kilograms of waste was collected. Similar collection drives were held across the country in different Samsung offices as well. All the e-waste collected will be treated in a responsible way through government authorized recycling companies.

On International E-waste Day through this initiative, Samsung urges all consumers to ensure safe disposal of electronic waste.

Samsung recognizes this challenge and has initiated the Care for Clean India program. Under this program, customers with e-waste need to just call Samsung 1800-5-SAMSUNG or 1800-572-67864. Samsung will collect the e-waste from customers’ doorstep, completely free of cost and take care of the rest. The collected e-waste will be disposed of responsibly through government authorized recycling companies.

The Care for Clean India campaign further cements Samsung India’s commitment to the environment by adhering to the global recycling laws, to raise awareness about responsible disposal of e-waste, reduce generation of e-waste and encourage recycling of e-waste. More importantly, it is an initiative to ensure that we leave a clean and green India for generations to come.

Within a few days of the launch, the campaign has seen participation in huge numbers. Conscious consumers have been calling in to participate actively in the campaign.

With activities across all Samsung offices, our fight against plastic has become even stronger. Samsung India has a huge strength of close to 70,000 employees and activities for environmental awareness were organized across the country. The impact was immediate. In a matter of a few days, there has been a significant reduction in consumption of tissue papers, plastic bottles and paper cups within the Samsung network. Such initiatives inculcate eco-friendly habits in people and encourage a healthier lifestyle.

Not just that, the employees have taken a green leap and have planted a total of 1776 trees in a single week. At Samsung’s e-waste collection centres, close to 72 kilograms of electronic waste has been collected for recycling on a weekly basis. With energy conservation programmes, daily electricity consumption has also gone down tremendously.

Samsung Industrial Training Institutes across different cities in India educate students on not just technical knowledge, but have also imparted knowledge on green solutions and eco-friendly activities.

It is important that we as individuals realise the need to minimize plastic and electronic waste. The planet is ours and responsibility to save it also lies on us.

Samsung-Apollo Mobile Clinic is well equipped with high-end technology for advanced screening of NCDs. NCDs are a growing menace across the world. Responsible for over 50% of deaths, NCDs like Diabetes, Cancer, Hypertension and Cardiac ailments cause the biggest fatalities in India. Samsung-Apollo Mobile Clinic is targeted to win over NCDs by driving awareness and through early detection and preventive screening.

People in rural areas will receive free-of-cost access to primary screening. Medical professionals from Apollo Hospitals will be engaged to execute the primary requirement of screening and camps through this initiative.

Samsung has always made a conscious effort in creating environmental awareness among its employees. This year too, there were several activities planned in Samsung offices across the country and employees participated in large numbers.

The activities kicked off at SRI-Delhi with plastic and digital waste awareness campaign and a Cleanliness Drive was initiated. Despite the sweltering heat, employees gathered in large numbers and cleaned the immediate vicinity taking a pledge to keep their surroundings clean.

The volunteers also planted saplings in the vicinity to boost the green belt and improve environmental sustainability. These will be regularly maintained and monitored by the employees.

In Bengaluru, at the R&D Institute, the team comprised of enthusiastic participants. A creative DIY station was set up in the lobby. Employees were encouraged to recycle and reuse old daily items like t-shirts and plastic bottle among others.

There was also a seed ball activity where employees were taught to create a ball with organic seeds of leafy vegetables and plants that are rolled in mud and compost. This seed ball can germinate into a full-grown plant in a conducive environment.

The creativity of the employees was at its peak in the photography (#MyGreenSpace) and painting (#PaintYourImagination) competition that brought together enjoyable moments and the eagerness to make a difference. E-waste campaigns were organized at Samsung offices across the country where employees were given saplings in exchange for their electronic waste. This met with massive participation all over.

Across all offices, one thing was common — the passion to bring a change. With awareness videos and green messages, the employees made an earnest promise to the environment to be eco-friendly in day-to-day activities. After all, it’s our planet and we are responsible for it.

In an effort to build awareness on plastic waste, employee volunteers from the Samsung Research Institute in NOIDA or SRI-N team visited a government primary school- Prathmik Vidyalaya Hazratpur Wajidpur in NOIDA.

Children are the future and it is important to educate them. Keeping this in mind, the main aim of the visit was to educate and create awareness about the environment among the students. In an interactive session, young bright minds discussed the causes and solution of environmental pollution. The enthusiastic bunch came forward with ideas to educate their parents on recycling, pollution and particularly plastic waste.

To raise awareness on plastic and its irreversible damage to the planet, a short awareness video was shown to the students highlighting the extent of plastic damage to the natural ecosystem and its effect.

The volunteers prepared a skit to show the past, the present and the future of the human race with respect to the environment. It showed the grim reality of extinction, if measures to prevent the adverse impact of plastic are not taken soon. A painting competition was held with Environment as its central theme — Paryavaran Bachao.

The winners of the competition were awarded with beautiful potted plants. The team also distributed eco-friendly bags and food packets which can be re-used for shopping and thus, taking the first step to eliminate plastic from this planet.

Samsung believes that sensitizing Gen Z from a young age can help save our environment. After all, awareness is the first step to solving a problem. So this Environment Day, let’s change the world together, one step at a time.

Members of the SEVA team, which is committed towards community related voluntary programs, visited the school and its surroundings and it was decided that they would construct a school building with at least six classrooms and the necessary school furniture as a community service project.

Samsung R&D Centre, Bangalore is building classrooms for a school in Karnataka’s kolar district where three different classes were forced to sit in the same room for want of space.

Since the decision, it has been hectic work. Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore has signed an agreement with the Government of Karnataka to build the school and the team began construction work in parallel.

While this was happening, the team also found that Kolar district is facing extensive fluoride contamination in water.

To address the issue, the volunteers decided to install water filters in schools. So far, the team from Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore has installed water filters in 85 schools within the district. The team is now working on equipping more schools.

“At Samsung, we strive to give back to the society. Be it our ‘Make for India’ initiative or community centric voluntary activities, our core mission is to contribute and propel the growth and development of this region. I feel very happy to see our young energetic volunteers come forward to participate and contribute to our vision,” Mr. Dipesh Shah, Managing Director, Samsung R&D Institute, Bengaluru said.

Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore had last year collaborated with the Karnataka government to donate notebooks and pens to students in 450 government schools across Bengaluru, Kolar and Mulbaghal districts in the state. A team of over 120 volunteers from the Bangalore R&D centre visited these schools and distributed 160,000 notebooks and 38,500 pens to over 30,000 students.

Samsung India has deployed its Customer Service Vans in Assam to provide relief to flood victims in the state. These Customer Service Vans, which were introduced in the state to provide quality service to Samsung consumers in rural India, travelled to a remote village, Laharighat, in Morigaon district around Guwahati to help flood affected families.

Samsung has also set up Service Camps in Assam and Bihar for its customers from September 10 to September 20, offering free labour on flood affected products and up to 50% discount on parts.

“Samsung stands firmly with the people of Assam during this time of need. We are glad that our Customer Service Vans deployed in the state have been able to reach these families and provide relief on time,” said Mr. Anurag Prashar, Vice President, Customer Satisfaction, Samsung India.

Assam has been impacted by heavy floods which have affected thousands in the state. Taking swift action, Samsung Service Vans carried packets of rice and mosquito nets and distributed it amongst the families in Laharighat village on the banks of the Brahmaputra river in coordination with local authorities.

Earlier, in January this year, Samsung had launched Customer Service Vans for Assam to reach out to 54 talukas across the state. These Service Vans have so far travelled close to 2 lakh kilometres across the length and breadth of Assam. Driven by locals who work with Samsung, these Service Vans have been travelling through difficult terrain across the hinterland and semi-urban regions across the state to attend to service calls from consumers.

The familiarity of the Samsung Service Van drivers helped in navigating through the flood affected areas and provide relief to this village in Morigaon district. These service vans have been designed to carry key components for repair, a DG set and key jigs and fixtures for providing quick response and on-spot resolution along with a multi-skilled engineer.

In October 2016, Samsung augmented its service network by adding 535 service vans and strengthened its commitment to provide quality customer service in both urban and rural India. With this, Samsung’s reach will extend to customers in over 6,000 talukas across 29 states and 7 union territories, making Samsung’s service network the largest in this industry in India.

Today, Samsung has the widest reach of service centres with trained service engineers. This team goes to the deepest parts of the country to service the needs of our customers. Samsung has also added over 250 service points and over 250 resident engineers, ramping up its service network to over 3,000 service points, from 2,000 earlier.
