Samsung R&D Institute (SRI), Bangalore, was recognized as a ‘Great Place to Innovate’ at the prestigious Zinnov Awards 2017. The awards recognize and celebrate titans in the technology world and honour Indian centres that have created an impact on a global scale. SRI-B is Samsung Electronics’ biggest R&D facility outside Korea.

“What makes SRI-B a ‘Great Place to Innovate’ is our focus on meaningful innovation. At SRI-B, cutting-edge technology converges with social needs. Such innovations also create quality intellectual property or revenue-boosting solutions. Innovations coming from few pockets is common, but institutionalizing innovations as a culture makes all the difference,” said Dr. Aloknath De, Chief Technology Officer, SRI-B.

SRI-B is Samsung’s biggest R&D facility outside Korea

Over the last 20 years, SRI-B has notable “world’s first” and “world’s best” innovations to its credit. The highest number of patent filings and grants in India from the private sector is from SRI-B. The Iris Tab and Samsung Pay for India – recognized amongst the most innovative mobility products – have come from SRI-B.

SRI-B’s C-Lab ideation initiative is already paying rich dividends in terms of establishing local and global value addition in features and solutions from an intrapreneur-driven culture.

In more good news for SRI-B, Dr. Vijay Narayan Tiwari of SRI-B was recognized as ‘Technical Role Model’ at Zinnov Awards 2017. Dr. Tiwari heads Connected Health & Fitness department at SRI-Bangalore.

“It is a matter of great pride that our research which combined medicine with engineering was recognized by Zinnov Awards. It tells me that our work in wearable health and fitness has had a positive impact. That is the dream of every researcher. I thank my team and my mentors for their constant encouragement. I am fortunate to have worked at SRI- Bangalore which provided an excellent platform to innovate and invent new things,” said Dr. Vijay Narayan Tiwari.

The Zinnov Awards 2017 winners were selected by a jury comprising eminent members from various India R&D centres, CTOs, industry influencers and previous award winners.

This year, Zinnov Awards received more than 200 nominations from around 80 companies across eight different categories.

SRI-B had won the Zinnov Awards for ‘Design Thinking’ in 2015 and ‘Center of Excellence’ in 2016.
