Samsung R&D Institute Delhi (SRI-Delhi) hosted its annual awards ceremony, COSMOS 2024, celebrating a year of groundbreaking innovation, collaboration, and excellence. COSMOS, short for Champions of SRI-Delhi and Mavericks of Samsung, is the institute’s flagship program to recognize exceptional talent and inspire teams toward future milestones.

The event was inaugurated by Shane Cho, Managing Director, SRI-Delhi, who reflected on the institute’s achievements in 2024 and shared a bold vision for the year ahead. “Technology should stem from customer needs. At SRI-Delhi, we encourage our engineers to create solutions people are willing to embrace. As software continues to shape the future, SRI-Delhi’s talented workforce is primed to drive innovation and lead this transformation,” he said.

COSMOS Awards: Celebrating Trailblazers

The highlight of the evening was the COSMOS Awards, which celebrated achievements across technical excellence, leadership, and collaboration. Awardees were recognized for pushing boundaries and exemplifying SRI-Delhi’s core values.

Pratibha Singh, General Manager, Software Quality, and a recipient of the prestigious Mega Star award, said, “This recognition is a reflection of the incredible teamwork and support at SRI-Delhi. I’m inspired to continue contributing to our shared vision of innovation and impact.”

Inspire: Insights from Thought Leader Sharad Sharma

Adding a thought-provoking dimension to the evening was the Inspire segment featuring Sharad Sharma, Co-founder of the iSPIRT Foundation and a United Nations AI advisory board member.

Sharad urged the audience to think beyond conventional limits, emphasizing the transformative potential of AI. “Radical innovation often emerges from the periphery. Be idea creators, not just instruction followers. Build AI systems that are ethically sound, inclusive, and globally relevant,” he said.

Moderated by Hemanshu Srivastava, VP Software R&D at SRI-Delhi, the session explored the importance of collaborative ingenuity and globally distributed AI governance, inspiring the audience to lead with creativity and responsibility.

Nine bright young minds from Samsung Innovation Campus, the company’s flagship CSR programme, got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Samsung India’s head office and its state-of-the-art R&D centres and Design Centre.

Samsung Innovation Campus upskills the Indian youth in future-tech skills such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Coding & Programming. The students, eight toppers and one social media champion from the programme, got a first-hand look at the technology and the people driving Samsung’s cutting-edge innovations.

The students interacted with JB Park, President and CEO at Samsung Southwest Asia, besides other senior leaders at Samsung India.

“Samsung Innovation Campus is for the youth of India to prepare them for a digital future. We aim to upskill youth in future technologies and enhance their employability. It is a proud moment for me to meet young beneficiaries of the programme. I believe the youth, especially from smaller cities in India, have unlimited potential, and I wish them all the best,” said JB Park.

The students arrived at the Samsung head office from all corners of India: Manish Singh and Prince Chauhan from Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, specializing in AI; Mukesh Kumar Pandey and Anchal Verma, also from Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, studying Big Data; Amit Kumar Maurya from Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur and Suhani S Gaonkat from Sri Krishnarajendra Silver Jubilee Technological Institute, Bengaluru, focusing on Coding & Programming; and Alok Singh and Subin Thomson from National Small Industries Corporation Ltd, Delhi, training in IoT.

The group was joined by Saurabh Yadav, a Samsung Innovation Campus Media Champion studying AI. Saurabh recorded 100 days of his Samsung Innovation Campus experience in as many posts on his social media handles.

In Noida and New Delhi, they interacted with the Managing Directors of the R&D centres, who shared valuable insights on the importance of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

“Being here has been a life-changing experience. Meeting the people, who create technology that impacts millions of lives was beyond anything I had imagined,” said Manish Singh from Gorakhpur.

“The exposure to cutting-edge R&D and the emphasis on learning at every step have inspired me to aim higher. This experience will stay with me forever,” said Anchal Verma from Gorakhpur.

A visit to Samsung Design Delhi left the group awestruck by the creativity and futuristic designs shaping Samsung’s vision for tomorrow.

“The design centre showed me how innovation and aesthetics come together. It was fascinating to see how Samsung envisions the future through design,” said Suhani S Gaonkar from Bengaluru.

Aligned with the Government of India’s #SkillIndia and #DigitalIndia initiatives, Samsung Innovation Campus focuses on equipping youth with skills in high-demand tech fields, including AI, IoT, Big Data, and Coding & Programming.

In 2024, Samsung Innovation Campus conducted 12 certification events across educational institutes in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

The interactions not only inspired the students but also reinforced Samsung’s commitment to nurturing young talent, especially from smaller cities and towns, and prepare them for a brighter, more digital future.

Samsung Research Institute Delhi has ushered in a new wave of innovation by welcoming 53 talented interns from India’s top engineering institutes for a dynamic two-month summer internship under its Shishya program. This initiative is designed to bridge academic excellence with real-world industry experience, allowing students to immerse themselves in groundbreaking projects and gain invaluable insights from industry experts.

The Shishya program offers these interns a unique opportunity to work on large-scale enterprise applications utilizing advanced technologies such as robotics, machine learning, generative artificial intelligence, ambient intelligence, cloud services, and ad services. Through this hands-on experience, the interns will not only enhance their technical skills but also get a firsthand look at what it’s like to be at the forefront of technological innovation.

“I extend a warm welcome to our 53 talented interns from some of the top engineering institutes in India. I believe that their presence will bring fresh perspectives and foster a collaborative environment within our teams. The interns themselves are brimming with enthusiasm and high expectations for their time at SRI-Delhi. Pratiksha Deka from IIT Bombay expressed, “I am eager to contribute to technological innovation and make a positive impact. I believe that Samsung’s global reach and supportive culture will provide me with the resources and guidance necessary to pursue my aspirations. With the advanced mentorship and developmental programs at SRI-Delhi, I look forward to growing professionally and making meaningful contributions.”

Reflecting on his initial experiences, Srijan Singh from IIT Delhi shared, “My first week at SRI-Delhi has been absolutely fantastic. The extensive two-day orientation session helped me settle in and adapt to the new environment, especially since this is my first internship at such a prestigious company. The employees and our buddies have been incredibly supportive and understanding of our questions. I’ve had the opportunity to explore some of the most advanced technologies here, and I’m eagerly anticipating the weeks ahead.”

Ananya Das from IIT Madras commented on her transition into the corporate world, saying, “Personally, I was a bit nervous about the transition into the corporate world, but the orientation sessions during the first two days at SRI-Delhi provided a very solid foundation which helped me greatly. The constant support from the team and mentors has been invaluable in navigating through the tasks and projects. I’m excited to delve deeper into the innovative technologies SRI-Delhi is known for and eager to contribute meaningfully to the company’s goals in the coming weeks.”

As these young innovators embark on their journey with Samsung R&D Institute – Delhi, the Shishya program promises to be a transformative experience. It will equip them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel in their future careers and make significant contributions to the field of technology.

Seventy-Five young graduates from India’s top 7 IITs have begun their summer internship with Samsung’s R&D Center, SRI Delhi.

Walking into the corporate world, they seemed thrilled to be starting a new phase of their professional life.

The two-month-long summer internship program – Samsung SHISHYA (SRI-Delhi’s flagship internship program which commenced in 2017), started with a fun-filled two-day induction which involved interacting with the senior leadership at SRI- Delhi.

During their internship, they will get the opportunity to learn from and work closely with our R&D teams on next generation technologies to create superior products and services.

Leaders from across Samsung R&D will help these interns from IIT-BHU, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Madras, IIT- Roorkee) to work on real-time projects within various verticals of the company.

Starting from onboarding, there are comprehensive modules designed for technical trainings, and team-specific trainings. The interns would be working in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud, Applications development and more.

One of the interns, Bastewad Vikas Vijay Kumar, a student of IIT Kharagpur, said he is delighted to be at SRI Delhi. He had always dreamt of an opportunity like this.

“The company’s culture, atmosphere and all the people here are great and helpful, they keep the motivation always high for achieving the best.

The company also cares for its employees and it feels like I’ve joined a nurturing family,” he said.

“The Samsung shishya program really justifies its title as we see an ocean of learning opportunities under incredible mentors. The warm two-day welcome sessions, loaded with fundamental information in a structured format, made us feel a part of the team along with giving us clarity of the entire system. It is an honour to work with Samsung, said another intern Divyanshi Thaakur from IIT Delhi.

The interns are looking forward to an exciting and fruitful two months at SRI Delhi.
