Meet the next generation of innovators—students from India’s top IITs, who are redefining what is possible at Samsung R&D Institute Noida (SRI-N).

Established in 2007, SRI-N is one of the largest S/W development centers of Samsung focusing on Flagship products such as S-Series, Fold series and Wearables primarily for South West Asia, US and Canada regions. The center is actively involved in developing advanced solutions such as AI features, Health Services for the global market and plays a major role in OneUI features development and stabilization.

Nestled in a sprawling lush green campus on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway in Delhi NCR, SRI-N is a launchpad for innovation, where some of the country’s most brilliant young minds come together to push boundaries and bring ideas to life.

Take for instance, Lalit Kumar, from SRI-N’s Application team, always aspired to be a part of an organisation that champions innovation.

Echoing this sentiment, Yash Verma, an engineer specialsing in smartphone and wearable sensor drivers, said, “The brand value, the research-driven culture, and the hunger for innovation are unparalleled. At Samsung, we don’t just follow trends—we set them.”

Freedom to Create and Execute Ideas

One of the defining aspects of life at SRI-N is the freedom to think, create, and innovate. Interns and young engineers are encouraged to push the boundaries of what is possible. Whether it’s developing new AI-driven smartphone features or working on breakthrough technologies, every idea is valued and nurtured.

Harsh Pratik, an AI Application engineer, highlighted the level of support young engineers receive. “We are completely free to share our ideas, especially when it comes to research and patents. Experienced engineers are always there to mentor us, and if an idea has potential, Samsung provides every possible resource to bring it to life,” he said.

“Since day one, I have been part of projects that are dedicated to providing high-quality, innovative solutions. The exposure, learning, and responsibilities keep me motivated to do my best.” – Subhashish Moitra

Subhashish Moitra

This freedom to explore and innovate extends beyond work—it is a mindset that Samsung cultivates in its employees. Shubhashish Moitra, who works in AI and machine learning, believes that Samsung’s encouragement of new ideas makes all the difference.

A Culture of Mentorship and Collaboration

For new generation engineers, working at Samsung means being surrounded by some of the best minds in the industry. The collaborative work environment ensures that everyone from fresh recruits to experienced mentors is constantly learning from each other. “Every day is an opportunity to learn from incredibly talented individuals who bring diverse perspectives and deep technical expertise,” said Gajendra Nawal, Chief Engineer in the Service Framework team.

“Samsung has always been a hub of innovation, delivering the best and most reliable products worldwide. When I got the opportunity to be part of this culture, I knew I was exactly where I wanted to be.” – Lalit Kumar

Lalit Kumar

The openness of senior engineers and team leaders plays a huge role in fostering innovation. “If we get stuck on an issue, we can always reach out to our seniors. They are welcoming and always ready to help,” said Lalit Kumar.

Patent Culture: Encouraging Young Innovators

Samsung’s commitment to innovation is reflected in its strong focus on patents and intellectual property. The company has dedicated Ideation Teams that help young engineers refine their ideas into patentable innovations. Yash Verma, who is actively working towards filing a patent, said, “One of the most striking aspects of Samsung’s culture is its approach to patents. Every idea, no matter how big or small, is discussed, evaluated, and supported.”

“For those who have always dreamt of making a mark in the world of technology, this is the perfect place to start. Even engineers who have not worked on patents yet are actively exploring and learning about the process. “I am eagerly going through ideations and learning how to contribute to Samsung’s vast portfolio of innovations,” said Harsh Pratik.

Impacting Millions, One Innovation at a Time

Beyond the technical excellence and mentorship, what truly makes SRI-N special is the impact its engineers create. Every project they work on—whether it is AI-driven smartphone enhancements, advanced technologies, or next-gen software solutions—touches millions of lives worldwide.

For budding engineers, Samsung is more than just a workplace—it is a platform to dream, build, and lead the future of technology. And, as they continue to innovate, their journey at SRI-N is shaping not only their own futures but also the future of the tech world itself.

As part of the core philosophy, Samsung believes in co-prosperity and ensures that every step in the organization is taken, keeping this in mind. In matters of the environment, Samsung makes continuous efforts to raise awareness and to inspire employees.

With activities across all Samsung offices, our fight against plastic has become even stronger. Samsung India has a huge strength of close to 70,000 employees and activities for environmental awareness were organized across the country. The impact was immediate. In a matter of a few days, there has been a significant reduction in consumption of tissue papers, plastic bottles and paper cups within the Samsung network. Such initiatives inculcate eco-friendly habits in people and encourage a healthier lifestyle.

Not just that, the employees have taken a green leap and have planted a total of 1776 trees in a single week. At Samsung’s e-waste collection centres, close to 72 kilograms of electronic waste has been collected for recycling on a weekly basis. With energy conservation programmes, daily electricity consumption has also gone down tremendously.

Samsung Industrial Training Institutes across different cities in India educate students on not just technical knowledge, but have also imparted knowledge on green solutions and eco-friendly activities.

It is important that we as individuals realise the need to minimize plastic and electronic waste. The planet is ours and responsibility to save it also lies on us.

Which company files the largest number of patents in the technology sector in India?

No prizes for guessing…it’s Samsung.

Keeping in mind its core philosophies of People, Innovation and Change, Samsung encourages employees to think out of the box while providing holistic training for creativity and research. The knowledge to innovate as well as patent that innovation has resulted in some cutting-edge technology and exceptional features.

With three R&D centres in India alone (in Delhi, Noida and Bengaluru) and several others across the world, Samsung has invested close to USD 15 billion in R&D globally. Some of the best minds from prestigious Indian institutes including the IITs are hired year on year who go for training to Korea. The engineers specialize in several fields including artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, augmented reality, Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G.

The Samsung Research Institute- Bangalore is the largest R&D centre outside South Korea and has alone filed over 2900 patents since 2011-2012, which is close to 250-300 patents a year. It organizes annual knowledge sharing workshops that are attended by R&D centres across the world. At SRI- Noida, close to 2500 engineers have been trained on patent filing. Ideation workshops, thematic contests and quizzes on Intellectual Property are organized to create a culture for innovation. SRI-Delhi is responsible for not just generating patents, but also for curating organization wide patent activities to drive people to newer heights of innovative technology. To achieve that one-on-one guidance sessions, patent clubs, in-house magazines are organized. In addition, distinct short and long term programmes are conducted for freshers, mid-level and senior employees. The teams leading patents across Samsung India have won several awards that recognize their work in the field.

The patent team being presented the National IP Award 2018

Under the Make for India initiative, engineers have developed India-specific features for various devices. For instance, the ActivWash feature in washing machines to ensure better cleaning of shirt collars and sleeves, and the Tandoor Technology in microwaves to cook crisp rotis and naans, were developed by Indian engineers. With these features, Samsung India is also moving towards a Make For The World initiative.

At Samsung, it has been a constant endeavor to instill a sense of accountability and generate awareness about the environment among the community. For that, it is critical we teach ‘em young, teach ’em right. That is exactly what Samsung aimed to achieve with its latest initiative.

In an effort to build awareness on plastic waste, employee volunteers from the Samsung Research Institute in NOIDA or SRI-N team visited a government primary school- Prathmik Vidyalaya Hazratpur Wajidpur in NOIDA.

Children are the future and it is important to educate them. Keeping this in mind, the main aim of the visit was to educate and create awareness about the environment among the students. In an interactive session, young bright minds discussed the causes and solution of environmental pollution. The enthusiastic bunch came forward with ideas to educate their parents on recycling, pollution and particularly plastic waste.
