Eye Comfort Mode

Suppose you like to watch your movies in your bedroom and watch it before sleeping at night. In that case, the Eye Comfort Mode on the new Neo QLED 8K TV will automatically adjust screen brightness based on the illumination of the surrounding environment. The screen will reduce the amount of light and change it to warmer tones, based on sunset and sunrise time from the internet connection at your home, as well as a built-in light sensor, allowing it to adjust the blue light automatically.

Intelligent Smart Calibration

Beginning in 2022, the Samsung Neo QLED TV will allow users to calibrate their screen from the menu bar or through the SmartThings app on their smartphones. Users can correct colour patterns to either Basic or Professional mode through a simple step-by-step process with the Smart Calibration feature within the Smart Things app. The Basic Mode, offers a quick calibration within 15 seconds while the professional mode will optimize the picture on par with professional calibrators in less than 8 minutes.

Object Tracking Sound (OTS) With Human Tracking Sound

The upgraded version of the OTS with Human Tracking Sound will give users another level towards realism by adapting sounds to where people are on-screen. Samsung Newsroom sat down with engineer Uihyun Kim and product planner Joonho Jeong to ask them eight questions about Samsung’s latest 8K TV, which pushes the boundaries of what is possible with a television. Read on to learn what they had to say.

This year’s Neo QLED 8K lineup includes features that produce the most “real life” images yet, taking its picture quality to another level. Between the updated Neural Quantum Processor 8K, the new AI upscaling feature and the new calibration app, the consumers’ on-screen experience becomes a true reality, allowing them to easily manage their on-screen experience in a much more personal manner.

To fully grasp the technologies and features behind the 2022 Neo QLED 8K, Samsung Newsroom is showcasing them in a dynamic graphic format for easy comprehension.

14-bit Contrast Mapping

The 2022 Neo QLED 8K panels are built to provide extreme details in all types of scenes with the newly added 14-bit contrast mapping, building on top of the existing 12-bit control offered in 2021. The result is a new 8K screen that is capable of showing extraordinary picture quality with more contrast and control over details. The contrast and difference in detail are evident between last year’s model and this year’s Neo QLED 8K. Even with similar specs, such as Mini LEDs and dimming zones, the 2022 Neo QLED 8K allows us to be aware of intricate scenes and details that were not recognizable before. As shown above, 14-bit contrast mapping allows us to see the fine details on the surface of the water as well as the granular texture of the rocks under water.

Real Depth Enhancer

When the eye is focused on the object, it directs its attention to the object, focusing on the sharpness, clarity and texture of the object while maintaining the background. The 2022 Samsung Neo QLED 8K’s Neural Quantum Processor 8K acts quite similarly through its new feature, the Real Depth Enhancer, which increases overall contrast and definition of the object — creating a greater sense of depth and making the images pop.

As you can see in this example, the Real Depth Enhancer naturally guides the consumers’ eyes to focus on the object in front of them, creating depth and allowing the rhinoceros to truly stand out from the background.

Smart Calibration

With a new year of image quality improvements, comes a new sense of control for Samsung Neo QLED 8K. Now, viewers can calibrate and optimize their display from the menu bar or through the Smart Calibration app on their smartphone.[1] With Basic Mode, the app offers calibrated images in 30 seconds, while Professional Mode offers thorough image calibration and optimization within 5 to 8 minutes. Both modes require a simple one-step process from the users’ part to optimize the on-screen image. As shown here, the Professional Mode’s enhancement is very apparent, allowing Neo QLED 8K viewers to take advantage of its premium hardware and AI upscaling technology.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s leading TV manufacturer for 16 consecutive years, announced that its 2022 Neo QLEDs earned the ‘Reducing CO2’ certification from the Carbon Trust in recognition of its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

The Carbon Trust is a global climate consultancy driven by the mission to accelerate the move to a decarbonised future. The ‘Reducing CO2’ certification signifies that a product’s carbon footprint is reducing year-on-year. It evaluates the amount of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) generated throughout the entire product lifecycle using internationally recognized standards[1].

This year, 11 models across Samsung’s 2022 TV lineup, including three Neo QLED 8K models, three Neo QLED 4K models, two QLED models, two Lifestyle TV models, and one Crystal UHD TV model, obtained the certification by reducing the weight of the product and the power consumption during the use phase.

Samsung has long been committed to not only driving product innovation but also shaping and implementing environmental sustainability technologies. During Samsung’s keynote event at CES 2022, Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Samsung Electronic’s Device eXperience (DX) Division, unveiled the company’s vision of “Together for Tomorrow”, highlighting Samsung’s commitment to creating a sustainable future and driving collaboration as part of the global community to preserve our planet.

As part of the initiative, Samsung’s Visual Display Business is set to use around 30 times more recycled plastics to produce its display products than it did in 2021. Samsung also revealed its plan to expand the use of recycled materials in all of their mobile and home appliance products by 2025.

In addition, Samsung has been adopting various sustainable practices to minimize the environmental impacts throughout its products’ lifecycles. The company’s ‘Eco-Packaging’ program – which allows consumers to upcycle the packaging for TV products into versatile pieces of furniture – has been upgraded this year with product packaging using 90% less ink while also removing the staples during production.

Samsung has also expanded the SolarCell Remote, which eliminates battery waste with built-in solar panels, to all TV models in 2022. Additionally, Samsung has developed and applied a new material, made with repurposed ocean-bound plastics, to a 2022 high resolution monitor S8 to reduce marine waste and minimize the environmental footprint.

“As the market leader for 16 consecutive years, Samsung is not only focused on the technological advancements, but innovations around human-centric technology and the environment,” said Seokwoo Yong, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung will continue to implement various sustainability initiatives and eco-conscious activities in line with its ‘Going Green’ vision.”

Evolution of Neo QLED With Neo Quantum Processor and Dynamic Sound Experience

Thanks to the Neo Quantum Processor and the advancements in picture technology and sound it delivers, 2022 Neo QLED will provide some of the most pristine images and immersive soundscapes possible. In fact, this year’s Neo Quantum Processor introduces advanced contrast mapping with BLU (back-light unit), increasing the brightness level from 12 to 14-bit gradation for greater control of the light source – the Quantum Mini LEDs. This allows the TV to control its lighting across 16,384 steps, quadrupled from the previous 4,096 steps.

The new Shape Adaptive Light technology leverages the Neo Quantum Processor to analyze lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of light from the Quantum Mini LEDs, enhancing the brightness and accuracy of all shapes on the screen. The result is outstanding image quality that puts full HDR content on display. Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED also features Real Depth Enhancer, a multi-intelligence picture quality algorithm. This technological advancement creates a greater sense of realism by determining and processing an object on the screen against its background to create a sense of depth.

Additionally, Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED features EyeComfort mode, which automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness and tone based on a built-in light sensor and sunset/sunrise information. As the ambient light changes, the screen will gradually reduce the amount of light and offer warmer tones, adjusting the blue light levels accordingly. This allows for a more comfortable viewing experience at night by reducing the blue light which may affect one’s sleep quality.

Building on OTS (Object Tracking Sound), which directs the sound to move across the room along with the object on-screen, the 2022 products will feature OTS Pro, which incorporates powerful up-firing speakers to create overhead surround sound. 2022 Neo QLED also delivers a truly remarkable Dolby Atmos experience thanks to the addition of Samsung’s new top channel speakers. • The Sero offers an optimized watching experience with its new Matte Display in both vertical and horizontal modes. The new vertical Multi View function takes multitasking to the next level, allowing users to simultaneously view different content on the top and bottom of the screen, or search information online while watching something.

The New Smart Hub and Apps for the Ultimate User Experience

Samsung’s 2022 Smart TVs come with a new Smart Hub that puts content curation and discovery front and center with their viewing preferences. The 2022 models also come with expanded accessories to personalize the user experience. The Auto Rotating Wall Mount and Stand inherits the vertical viewing experience from The Sero, allowing users to enjoy mobile viewing by automatically rotating their screens.[1]

To complement the accessory, the 2022 products will support a vertical interface, including the Smart Hub, and offer a vertical Multi View feature. Breaking Sonic Barriers With the Latest Soundbar and Features

The 2022 soundbar lineup gets technology upgrades to provide even more immersive, three-dimensional audio experience. Q Symphony, the signature surround-sound experience which allows Samsung’s Neo QLEDs and soundbars to work together, has been improved with added synchrony. This enables the soundbar and TV speakers to work together with all the speakers on the TVs, including the top channel speakers, providing for an expansive, powerful soundscape.

Samsung’s 2022 soundbars also come with Wireless Dolby Atmos connectivity,[3] a wireless Smart TV-to-soundbar connection in which both the screen and soundbar speakers deliver an incredible audio experience with no distracting cables.

By removing the need for manual settings when games are loaded, something previously only possible with movie and television content, the game engine automatically optimizes video game content in real-time. This feature ensures details in the dark shadows and preserves the brightest highlights so that gamers can see and react to everything on the screen. It also configures the display to “true reference mode”, providing better color, also without the need for gamers to spend additional time with game settings.

Several gaming companies, including Saber Interactive, are expected to showcase their HDR10+ GAMING titles during the upcoming CES 2022.

HDR10+ Continues To Expand With Industry Support and Adoption for Premium HDR Experiences

HDR10+ brings superior picture quality by optimizing brightness and contrast scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame, with more accurate color expression.

Introduced four years ago, HDR10+ has built robust support across the industry, with 128 partners and over 4,000 supported devices, including TVs, projectors, smartphones and tablets from more than 28 manufacturers. HDR10+’s metadata also offers flexible reference tone and mapping curve definition for content creators, allowing them to deliver more impactful images exactly as they intended them to be seen.

In addition, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series, RTX 20 Series and GTX 16 Series GPUs will support the HDR10+ GAMING standard with drivers scheduled for release in 2022.
