Samsung Malaysia Electronics launched, Born of the Galaxy Stars, a short film competition endorsed by the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) that seeks 22 aspiring filmmakers to produce their short film with the Galaxy S22 Series.

With many amazing scripts and stories submitted from 28 March until 24 April, indeed, it was tough and it took the judges many rounds of deliberations before we selected the Top 22 stories for the Born of the Galaxy Stars short film competition. We are delighted by the sheer number of participants in this round of the competition as we see your ideas and imaginations in awe and wonder – proving there’s a wealth of local storytelling potential and film talent.

We are excited to announce the 22 shortlisted candidates who will go forward in the exciting short film competition, ‘Borderless with Nightography’. Besides, we are proud to have such a vibrant and talented filmmaking community, and we can’t wait to see what you create next! The 22 emerging filmmakers will go on to the next phase of the competition, where they will receive the Galaxy S22 Ultra to bring their stories to life.

The final production will then be in the running to win an award in July at the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) opening ceremony; but for now, we are delighted to name our 22 shortlisted aspiring filmmakers!

Using the Nightography feature to create an ambient romantic mood, Taufiq shares that it was incredibly easy to capture things in low light. In fact, it was clearer and easier to bring out the emotions with low light and maintaining the quality and details with the automatic framerate & shutter speed adjustment while filming #withGalaxy S22 Ultra.

“I was blown away with the battery life, we were shooting with the Galaxy S22 Ultra all day[1], and the battery or charging it were never an issue for us, unlike conventional film cameras where we need to do a regular battery change. Let’s hear from Ismail Jamaludin, a heart driven filmmaker and fitness enthusiast on his take on the Galaxy S22 Ultra!

“It all began when I picked up a camera and filmed my own stuff with friends, and it just felt so natural and fitting.” – Ismail Jamaludin, recalls how he realised that filmmaking would one day be his calling. Since then, through trial and error, and learning from experience – making movies is all he thinks about!

Samsung Malaysia Electronics and Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) will then select 22 teams who will be presented with the Galaxy S22 Series to shoot and produce their short film. Kuala Lumpur, March 28, 2022 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics today launched, Born of the Galaxy Stars, a short film competition endorsed by the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) that seeks 22 aspiring filmmakers to produce their short film with the Galaxy S22 Series. Aligned with Samsung’s vision of making technology and innovation accessible to all, this competition will give an opportunity to aspiring directors to dream beyond the constraints that limits traditional filmmaking and explore the technological advancements of the future.

The Galaxy S22 Series offers a slew of camera features to explore, enabling aspiring filmmakers to pursue their dreams from the palm of their hands and break the limits of traditional film production.

To inspire hopeful filmmakers, Samsung Malaysia worked closely with four (4) amazing local directors to film #withGalaxy S22 Series on four genres: Fashion, Fitness, Romance and Music. The directors were given the opportunity to shoot their films using the Galaxy S22 Series and were amazed with the smartphone’s dynamic camera experience and the quality results produced.

Born of the Galaxy Stars

To participate in the Born of the Galaxy Stars[1] short film competition, interested filmmakers must submit a short script in-line with the theme, Borderless with Nightography by 17 April 2022 and select one of the concepts to include in the short script: Fashion, Fitness, Romance and Music. Samsung Malaysia and MIFFest will then select 22 winners who will be presented with the Galaxy S22 Ultra to shoot and produce their short film. These final productions will then be in the running to win an award in July 2022 at the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) opening ceremony.

In addition, 1 grand prize winner will be selected from the Top 3 and this grand prize winner will receive a recognition award, a trophy and RM8000 cash prize from MIFFest. The Top 3 winners will also have a chance to expand their network and industry leaders in Malaysia’s film and entertainment through the film festival. Besides that, the top three short films will be premiered at the 5^th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) 2022.
