The Galaxy Z Fold7 features the Z Fold series’ most advanced camera, delivering an Ultra experience that transforms the way you capture, edit and share content.

For the first time in the series, the device offers a 200 MP ultra-high-resolution main camera and the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor.

Also equipped with a ProVisual Engine boasting more than 160 AI-powered imaging technologies, the Galaxy Z Fold7 seamlessly merges flagship camera performance and intelligent processing in a versatile foldable design.

From filming vivid night videos to capturing more of the world with its ultra-wide lens, here’s how the thinnest and lightest Z Fold yet is built to keep up with your creative vision.

200MP Sensor: Next-Level Clarity in Every Frame

▲ The upgraded camera system takes your photography to the next level.

At the heart of the Galaxy Z Fold7’s camera system lies its 200 MP wide-angle camera, the same found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the highest-ever resolution sensor in the Z Fold series. With it, you can now capture every nuance of a scene, from the rich textures and colors of clothes in your holiday photos to the delicate contours of the vast landscape behind you. Here are some of the key benefits of the Galaxy Z Fold7’s wide-angle camera:

Captures shots that are 44% brighter and four times more detailed than those taken with the Galaxy Z Fold6, ensuring every image is vivid, textured and ready to share.

Maintains image quality at 2x optical-grade zoom, delivering sharp, clear results even when digitally zooming in — so you can reframe or crop images without sacrificing detail.

A shutter speed that is up to seven times faster, enabling you to take crisp, detailed photos of important moments.

The 200 MP sensor ensures you can capture every detail

Looking to highlight the intricate details of your latest artwork or piece of jewelry? The enhanced 12MP ultra-wide lens on the Galaxy Z Fold7 now supports auto focus, enabling macro photography, so you can take close-ups with exceptional sharpness and depth. To maintain precise focus at close range, the device leverages Dual Camera Depth Calibration — a system that intelligently gauges subject distance and seamlessly switches between the wide and ultra-wide cameras when needed. This allows you to achieve consistent sharpness without manually changing cameras. The addition of autofocus to the ultra-wide camera further enhances accuracy, making it easier than ever to shoot detailed close-ups with clarity.

Fit the Whole Crew in Wide-Angle Selfies

▲ The 100-degree front camera on the main display allows you to take large group selfies with ease.

Getting everyone in the frame no longer means stretching your arm to the limit or asking the group to back up. The enhanced 100-degree front camera in main display captures more of the scene so you can easily fit everyone in the shot. Features and upgrades include:

Front camera photos that are 25% wider and 2.5 times clearer compared to those taken with the Galaxy Z Fold6.

When faces are near the edges, the camera uses Wide Distortion Correction, which automatically adjusts proportions and reduces distortion when faces are near the edges of frames, allowing everyone to look more natural in wide shots.

More natural skin texture on photo subjects, thanks to AI-driven adjustments optimized for the selfie experience.

Enhanced HDR processing for portraits that prioritizes the subject for more true-to-life rendering.

AI-powered filters trained on over 5,000 real analog film images, letting you fine-tune your photos based on contrast, saturation and color temperature to achieve a look that blends natural aesthetics with artistic expression.

Light Up Night Shoots With the ProVisual Engine

▲ Grainy and blurred night videos are a thing of the past with Galaxy Z Fold7.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 shines brightest after dark, thanks to its AI-powered ProVisual Engine that processes images faster[1] and optimizes every scene.

The energy of an evening concert or a night out with friends can be recorded in stunning clarity. By analyzing movement and light in real time, the Galaxy Z Fold7 reduces noise effectively and delivers crystal-clear results — even in challenging low-light conditions:

Enhanced Nightography leverages an advanced Spatio-Temporal Filter that analyzes pixel data both across multiple frames and within individual frames. When analyzing across multiple frames, it separates the subject from the background to reduce background noise. Footage quality is further refined as noise is removed based on continuous pixel patterns within individual frames. The result is sharper, clearer night footage with natural light and fine detail.

Videos get a further boost from the introduction of advanced 10-bit HDR video recording:

Overall color expression is enhanced with four times richer contrast and a wider dynamic range compared to standard 8-bit recordings.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 supports Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG[2]), ensuring broad compatibility with regular displays and TVs.

LOG video recording is supported as well — particularly useful for creators who want more flexibility during post-production. Videos can be edited with greater ease, thanks to:

The 10-bit High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC[3]) codec for advanced compression and editing freedom.

The ability to fine-tune color grading using Samsung Look-Up Table (LUT[4]), right from the device.

A Portable Editing Studio Right in Your Hands

https://img.global.news.samsung.com/my/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/galaxy-z-fold7-features-photo-assist-mo.mp4

▲ Remove unwanted objects in an instant with Generative Edit.

With the Galaxy Z Fold7, there’s no need to get back to your desk before editing content. The device itself is your own portable creative studio, with its large display allowing you to edit like a pro — anytime, anywhere with precision like never before:

Generative Edit, enhanced with a refined AI model and more advanced prompt processing, now delivers 18 times reduced mis-generation rate and cuts texture distortion to one-fourth — both compared to the previous Galaxy Z Fold6. The upgrade allows you to effortlessly remove unwanted objects — along with related elements such as shadows or reflections — adjust angles, and naturally fill in backgrounds, resulting in polished, professional-quality photos.

Through Galaxy AI’s scene-understanding capabilities, Suggest Erases proactively suggests edits like removing passersby or other distractions in photos for flawless clean shots.

Side-by-Side Editing lets you compare original and edited versions of your photos in real time for quick editing on the go.

Improved with advanced AI prompt engineering, Portrait Studio helps pet lovers and portrait enthusiasts alike refine images to capture vibrant expressions and striking profiles.

Unfold Your Creativity

The Galaxy Z Fold7’s next-generation camera and editing tools make creating high-quality content simpler, faster and more intuitive than ever before. More than just a foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold7 takes your craft to new heights as your personal creative assistant.

The Galaxy Note9 builds on Samsung Electronics’ legacy of innovative camera technologies with an intelligent camera that takes the work out of capturing the perfect photo.

Brand new functions including Scene Optimizer and Flaw Detection utilize artificial intelligence to help users get the most out of the device’s advanced camera. Together, this powerful combination of smarts and specs makes it easier than ever to snap stunning shots.

Optimal Color Every Time

Picture this: When catching a sunset during your vacation, you snap a pic with your phone only to find that the image on the screen hasn’t quite captured the majesty of the moment. The Galaxy Note9’s new Scene Optimizer function makes it easy to photograph breathtaking moments just like this by automatically optimizing camera settings to capture the full beauty of the scene.

Scene Optimizer utilizes deep-learning technology to analyze objects, scenery and time elements in the camera’s frame in order to identify exactly which type of scene you’re about to photograph. The function is currently capable of recognizing 20 types of scenes—including ‘Food’, ‘Flowers’, ‘Indoor scenes’ and ‘Landscapes’— and automatically adjusts the color tone based on how the scene is classified1.

The function corrects the saturation, white balance, brightness and contrast in order to provide the best possible image. And because it does not require a network connection, it’s always available to help make your photos look great.

Snap Flawless Photos

Even the best photos can be spoiled by a simple blink, a blur, a smudge on the lens, or by harsh, overpowering light behind the picture’s subject. That’s where the Galaxy Note9’s Flaw Detection function comes in. Once a photo has been snapped, the feature automatically scans it for flaws and notifies you if any are found2.

The function helps users capture and save more memorable moments by ensuring that the picture they take is the best possible shot. Say you’re enjoying a special evening with friends and decide to immortalize it with a fun photo. Rather than realizing later that your eyes were closed, with Flaw Detection you’ll be immediately informed of any flaws in your photo so you can capture the memory with an additional shot.

Crisp Images In Any Lighting

Whether we’re at a restaurant, a concert, or simply enjoying a balmy evening under the summer sky, we’re constantly snapping photos in low-light environments. That’s why Samsung outfitted the Galaxy Note9’s camera with an array of innovative technologies that allow it to produce stunning shots day or night.

Combining an F2.4 aperture lens with an F1.5, the brightest currently available on a smartphone, the Dual Aperture lens automatically adjusts to light just like the human eye, letting in more light when it’s dark and less when it’s bright to produce images that are crisp and clear.

The Galaxy Note9’s multi-frame processing technology adds further clarity to photos taken under less-than-ideal lighting conditions. This technology, which combines several photos into one to create an optimal image, allows the camera to provide better HDR at night, and enriches the Live Focus feature with improved brightness and noise when taking pictures in low-light environments.

Capture More Moments In Epic Detail

The Galaxy Note9’s camera also includes support for Samsung’s recently introduced Super Slow-mo function, which ramps the camera’s shutter speed up to 960 frames per second to allow users to record spectacular slow-mo videos.

Four times slower than traditional slow-motion video, Super Slow-mo is powered by the camera’s Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor, which supports much faster image processing thanks in part to its integrated DRAM memory chip. The feature also includes an automatic Motion Detection function that instantly starts recording as soon as it detects movement.

The Galaxy Note9 allows users to transform 0.4 seconds of footage into approximately 12 seconds of Super Slow-mo video when taken in single shot mode3. Once a video is recorded, the feature automatically adds appropriate background music that makes the recorded moment even more epic.

More Customizable AR Emoji

The Galaxy Note9 is absolutely packed with innovations that empower users’ creativity and self-expression, and the camera’s refined AR Emoji feature is one of the most dynamic examples of this.

Capable of mimicking users’ movements in addition to supporting dozens of pre-set expressions, AR Emoji stickers offer a fun way to express yourself and inject personality into messages. The Galaxy Note9 analyzes your distinct facial features to generate a 3D avatar that matches your appearance.

The feature, whose face-tracking function was recently enriched with more landmark detector points, has been enhanced for the Galaxy Note9 with an array of customization options that make it eSet featured imageasier for AR Emojis to copy your distinct style. With loads of new outfits and accessories to choose from, as well as the ability to fine-tune details like your hair style, skin tone and facial features, the opportunities for expression are endless.

Galaxy Note9 users will also be able to customize the backgrounds of their stickers with an array of new options, and enjoy access to Samsung and partners like Disney’s ever-growing roster of AR Emojis based on iconic cartoon characters—a roster that’s set to become even more fun and diverse with the feature’s open SDK (software development kit).

1Accuracy may differ by settings and surrounding conditions.

2Accuracy of Flaw Detection function may differ depending on surrounding conditions or subject. Blink detection works within 1.5 meters and a maximum of 3 people are detectable at the same time. Blur detection feature senses when the camera shakes, and recognizes face blur in the photo.

3Video is initially recorded at 480fps and digitally converted into 960fps footage.

Samsung Newsroom recently sat down with members of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications Business team, who were behind the development of the Galaxy S9

Samsung Newsroom recently sat down with members of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications Business team, who were behind the development of the Galaxy S9 and S9+’s camera. They include Dongsoo Kim and Sungwook Choi of the Camera Development team, and Youngmin Nam and Junmo Kim of the Product Planning team. The team discussed the camera’s unique-to-market features including Super Slow-mo, which enables users to record cinematic videos at 960fps (frames per second), and was made possible by the development of image sensor technologies that dramatically enhance the ‘eye’ of the camera.

Clockwise from left: Dongsoo Kim, Sungwook Choi, Junmo Kim and Youngmin Nam (below)

A Three-layer Stacked Image Sensor, including the Sensor itself, a Circuit, and a DRAM for Super Slow-mo and Low-light Capabilities

“We were able to achieve a readout speed that is four times faster than conventional cameras thanks to a three-layer stacked image sensor that includes the CMOS image sensor itself, a fast readout circuit, and a dedicated dynamic random-access (DRAM) memory chip, which previously was not added to image sensors,” explained Dongsoo Kim. “Integrating DRAM allowed us to overcome obstacles such as speed limits between the sensor and application processor (AP) in a high-speed camera with 960fps features.”

An enhanced camera sensor delivers useful benefits. The improved image sensor on the Galaxy S9 supports the Super Slow-mo feature in bright environments, and also decreases noise in dark environments. “The Galaxy S9 reduces noise by 30 percent under low light, compared to the previous model. Low noise, coupled with the Dual Aperture lens, which automatically adjusts to lighting conditions just as the human eye would, completes the superb low-light capabilities of the Galaxy S9’s camera,” said Sungwook Choi.

Enhancements to the image sensor, the Dual Aperture lens, and other camera features foster completely new experiences for consumers. For example, users can now capture a 0.2 second moment via the Super Slow-mo feature, and record beautiful scenery that is bright and clear even in low-light conditions.

Getting it Right through the Most Comprehensive Testing

While the Super Slow-mo prototype was already available, the developers continued to work on enhancements as well as subject the prototype to rigorous tests to prepare for commercialization. In the beginning, the function was only available through computers. So, in multiple instances, the team carted two or three laptops around Korean amusement parks in scorching summer heat. There, they tested the function’s Motion Detection feature, which automatically records the fleeting moment that the user wishes to capture.

“It wasn’t easy testing out Motion Detection for Super Slow-mo, especially with people staring at us when we brought our laptops to these amusement parks and took videos of fast-moving rides. However, we were all committed to getting the feature exactly right,” said Dongsoo Kim.

“We also shot for two hours in the middle of a mountain range, on a freezing night, to complete the low-light camera function,” recalled Sungwook Choi.

Enabling Users to Get the Most Out of their Smartphone Camera

With smartphones so intrinsic to people’s everyday lives, developing technologies that enable users to get the most of their camera was key. “The Galaxy S9’s camera focuses on ease of use of the Super Slow-mo function, from simple video generation to seamless sharing; a final GIF file typically ranges from three to 15 MBs, which is approximately six seconds in length and optimized for users to share and enjoy.

In the case of AR Emoji, My Emoji stickers can be shared via various messenger platforms. We’ve also enhanced the front camera, improving the user experience and adding fun features on top of advanced image quality. An example of this is the Selfie Focus function on the front camera, which recognizes faces from scenery based on deep learning features to provide an ideal selfie, and enables a background-blurring effect,” explained Youngmin Nam.

The future of smartphone camera development is headed in the right direction. “We will continue to strive for perfect, professional-quality images. But even more than that, our aim is to make it easier for users to share the results of our sophisticated camera technology. The ultimate goal is to develop a camera that always produces the best pictures for all users without tinkering with settings, allowing them to take photos and videos that satisfy their needs,” said Junmo Kim.

Samsung Electronics recently teamed up with Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy, also known as The Slow Mo Guys of YouTube fame, for a fun and inventive video series

Samsung Electronics recently teamed up with Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy, also known as The Slow Mo Guys of YouTube fame, for a fun and inventive video series in which the experts offered tips on creating slow motion videos with the new Super Slow-mo feature on Galaxy S9 camera. The complete ‘Samsung Sessions’ series is now available on Samsung’s YouTube channel.

At Galaxy Unpacked 2018, Samsung Newsroom caught up with Gavin and Dan to hear their thoughts on the device’s 960 fps (frames per second) slow-motion capture capability, and to discuss ways to utilize the Super Slow-mo feature to make everyday moments epic.

Q. How did you first get into making slow-mo videos?

Gavin: I used to be a high-speed camera operator for the British film industry, so I was able to play around with these cameras in our off time. Eventually, I got Dan involved because Dan, to me, was the best person I knew to get banter on camera, and we started a YouTube channel with these incredible cameras that not many people had access to at the time.

Dan: I would say that cameras like these, at the time, were very uncommon. There were only a couple in the country. We were so young, and Gavin was so capable of using [the cameras] because of his job, so it was a cool opportunity that led us to what we do.

Q. What makes a great slow-mo video?

Dan: Sometimes our videos are very scientific, and we’ll discover something that might not have been seen before. Sometimes they’re just fun stunts. For instance, banging paint on a drum. It’s not scientific, it just looks cool for that split second – one that you don’t get to see in real life, but that you can see in slow motion.

Gavin: Yeah, we’re lucky enough to be able to do such a wide variety of subjects. There’s no strict rule to our channel besides shooting stuff in slow motion, so we can choose what we want.

Q. What do you think has made your creations resonate so well with viewers?

Gavin: We’re showing the audience something that they’ve seen hundreds of times, something that they can relate to, but at a much, much slower pace. There’s a lot of beauty in the world, even in normal, everyday subjects when they’re slowed down.

Dan: When we slow everyday things down, we’re showing [the audience] something they haven’t seen before. And we’re not just showing them a video; we’re presenting it and going through the experiment with them – showing them the setup, did it go well or did it not, and anything funny that happened. We try to engage people with that as well, so it appeals to a broad audience. So it’s not just footage – it’s more engaging.

Q. What are some good examples of moments in daily life that would look great captured in slow motion with the Galaxy S9?

Gavin: I feel like even before you go to work every day, there are so many moments full of emotion. For instance, if you look at a shower, you see droplets of water turn into a stream and into beads of water. Even putting milk into your coffee or watching TV – there are so many aspects of everyday life that you usually ignore that look completely different when slowed down.

Dan: I like that the Super Slow-mo technology is built into the phone, because you could be on a jog in the park or walking your dog and think “I wonder what that looks like in slow motion,” and just whip out your phone and see for yourself. Usually, we have a huge camera that we have to set up and get everything ready for, whereas with the phone, you can just go about your day and capture slow-mo footage without needing to set anything up.

Q. What were your initial impressions of the camera?

Gavin: I particularly like what the Galaxy S9 does with auto triggering, because with high-speed cameras, even ours, we can’t record for very long because it’s taking so many pictures every second that the recording time is very short. It has auto triggering so that you can put a box on the screen and, if something goes through the box, it automatically knows that that’s your slow-motion moment.

That’s very useful, especially considering that human reaction time isn’t actually very good and that 0.2 seconds goes by very fast, so that’s a great feature. We actually did one shot where we put the phone down on a table and it triggered itself when I threw water over Dan.

Dan: Yeah, there was no one touching it, and that’s a first for us. We just set it up, left it and it triggered automatically, which is really cool. It’s difficult to get [that kind of shot] manually when you don’t know what’s going to happen. So say, for instance, you’re waiting for something to burst or something to be hit or explode. If you place the box where the action is going to happen, you don’t need to worry about it, which is really, really, cool. It removes the human error part.

Q. What inspired the Super Slow-mo videos that you created with the Galaxy S9?

Dan: The idea was to show how easy it is to [film Super Slow-mo videos] in everyday situations, so we thought, what’s around the house? We used popcorn in one of the videos and just about anything else that we could use around the house.

Q. Are there any tips that you could offer users to help them get the most out of the Super Slow-mo feature?

Gavin: I think [users] should be very experimental [with the feature], and make sure that you have a lot of light, since you are taking so many pictures every second. There’s not actually a lot of light hitting the sensor for very long, so a bright environment is very good. And get someone to help you as well.

Dan: I would say that obviously, since it’s a phone, there’s no limit to what you can record in slow motion. You can just record whatever you want around the house, wherever you are. But it’s like Gavin said, it’s all about light. The more light you have, the easier it is.

Featuring refined designs and Samsung’s most advanced cameras yet, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ offer powerful tools to transform how users capture special moments,

Featuring refined designs and Samsung’s most advanced cameras yet, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ offer powerful tools to transform how users capture special moments, express themselves and enjoy immersive entertainment.

Both devices offer a smartphone experience that’s personalized in ways that enhance users’ connected lives, and designed to reimagine the way that we communicate, share and experience the world around us.

1. A Streamlined Design

Both the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 and the 6.2-inch S9+ introduce refinements to the Infinity Display that make Samsung’s signature screen even more striking.

These include reinforcing the Super AMOLED displays with thicker Corning© Gorilla© Glass 5 and crafting the bezels and screen in a deeper black to conceal the iris sensor and create a more uniform, minimalist aesthetic. Both devices feature sleek, contemporary designs, and are available in a choice of four colors: Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue, and the all-new Lilac Purple.

2. Make Everyday Moments Epic

The Galaxy S9’s Super Slow-mo feature was designed to allow users to capture, in stunning detail, the epic, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that occur in everyday life.

Super Slow-mo increases the camera’s shutter speed to a blistering 960 fps (frames per second), and is capable of recording video that’s four times slower than any other slow-motion mobile technology. Once they’ve recorded their Super Slow-mo clip, users may choose to save it as a GIF, customize it with a favorite tune, or display it as a wallpaper for their home or lock screen.

3. A Low Light Camera That Imitates the Eye

Combining an F2.4 aperture lens with an F1.5, the brightest currently available on a smartphone, the Galaxy S9’s advanced Dual Aperture camera adapts to its environment to allow users to snap stunning shots in any light.

Just like the human eye, the camera automatically adjusts to lighting conditions to allow just the right amount of light to reach the lens. So whether users are enjoying a sunny day at the beach or a birthday dinner with friends, they can rest assured that their images will be crisp and clear.

4. Express Yourself with AR Emoji

The Galaxy S9’s new AR Emoji feature allows users to create their own realistic or cartoon-like emojis using the device‘s facial recognition technology. From a single selfie, the device analyzes a 2D image of you by mapping more than 100 distinct facial features, and then applies that image to a 3D model to generate an avatar that looks just like you and can imitate your facial expressions.

AR Emoji are fully customizable, can easily be shared with others and also used as a wallpaper for the user’s home or lock screen.

5. Instant Insight into Your Surroundings

Samsung’s intelligence platform, Bixby, is deeply integrated into the Galaxy S9’s camera, and utilizes augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide users with a wide range of helpful, real-time information about the world around them.

When the user points their camera at an object, Bixby recognizes what it’s looking at and instantly presents information related to that object overlaid on top of the image. This means that, for instance, a user on a business trip abroad would be able to utilize the Live Translation function under Bixby’s Text mode to instantly translate a menu or sign written in a foreign language, or even foreign currency, in real-time.

6. Snap Standout Shots with Dual Camera

The Galaxy S9+’s best-in-class Dual Camera features a pair of 12MP cameras – an F1.5 wide-angle lens with Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor, and an F2.4 telephoto lens – as well as dual optical image stabilization (OIS) to ensure that photos are crystal clear even when the user has a shaky hand.

The camera’s Live Focus and Background Blur features offer users more creative control over their photos. The former allows them to adjust the depth of field at any point in the photo-taking process, while the latter lets users play with the focus of their photo’s background by applying shapes such as hearts, stars and more.

7. Stereo Speakers Provide Premium Sound

Because our smartphones are often our go-to platform for entertainment, Samsung has complemented the Galaxy S9’s immersive Infinity Display with an equally engrossing sound system.

To make it easy for users to immerse themselves in their content, Samsung placed powerful, AKG-tuned stereo speakers into the bottom and earpiece of the device that produce rich, balanced sound, no matter the volume. The Galaxy S9 also features a Dolby Atmos effect, which carefully analyzes key variables in content’s audio to give users the sensation that they’re experiencing 360-degree surround sound.

8. Enhanced Biometric Authentication

The Galaxy S9’s Intelligent Scan feature combines the collective strength of Samsung’s iris scanning, facial recognition and intelligent technologies to create a seamless authentication solution that offers users secure access to their device in virtually any environment.

In addition, the phone’s fingerprint scanner, which is now conveniently located beneath the camera on the back of the device, supports a new Dedicated Fingerprint function, which allows users to designate a fingerprint to provide instant access to their Secure Folder.

9. Built for Mobile Lifestyles

In addition to allowing users to enjoy a full-screen desktop experience powered by their mobile device, the Samsung DeX software platform now allows users to transform their Galaxy S9’s Infinity Display into a Touch Keyboard and Touch Pad using the new DeX Pad.

These days, smartphone users are relying less on calls and texts and more on selfies, emoji and GIFs to communicate with one another. That’s why Samsung outfitted both the Galaxy S9 and S9+ with innovative camera technologies designed not just to produce amazing photos, but to help users connect more comfortably and have more fun with their phone.

These include features such as Super Slow-mo and Dual Aperture, which allow users to capture amazing moments in impeccable detail, as well as exciting innovations like AR Emoji, which offer users a fun and unique way to express themselves. Let’s explore some of the innovative features that make these cameras such a pleasure to use.

Capture Small Moments in Incredible Detail

Our daily lives are full of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that, when captured on camera, are breathtaking to behold. By increasing the camera’s shutter speed to a blistering 960 frames per second (fps), the Galaxy S9’s new Super Slow-mo function makes it easy for users to record special moments that pass too quickly to be seen by the naked eye – such as the instant a water balloon bursts, or the moment your child scores a big goal.

In order to incorporate the function, Samsung outfitted the Galaxy S9 with a Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor that supports faster image processing. Composed of an image sensor, a fast readout circuit, and a smart dedicated DRAM memory chip, this sensor allows Super Slow-mo to record content that’s 32 times slower than normal video, and four times slower than any other slow-motion mobile technology. That means that just 0.2 seconds of normal video can be transformed into approximately 6 seconds of stunning footage.

When activated on the Galaxy S9, the function is not just fast; it’s also smart. To make capturing slow-motion footage even simpler, Samsung enhanced the function with an intelligent feature called Automatic Motion Detection, which allows users to capture any fleeting moment.

This allows users to automatically record moments that could pass them by in the time it would take to manually activate the function. Users can easily adjust the size of the motion-detection area on the camera screen, and have the option to capture either a ‘Single-take’ or ‘Multi-take’ Super Slow-mo video, with the latter allowing them to record up to 20 slow-motion clips.

The camera also makes customizing and sharing Super Slow-mo videos simple. Users have the option to create a GIF of their clip that they may save and share with three playback options: on loop, in reverse, or in swing mode. They can also add a soundtrack to their video, utilizing a song from their library or any of Super Slow-mo’s 35 built-in options, and choose to display their Super Slow-mo clip on Galaxy S9’s home screen or lock screen.

Crisp Images in Low-Light Conditions

The Galaxy S9’s cutting-edge Dual Aperture camera is designed to adapt to various lighting conditions just as the human eye would, automatically letting in more light when it’s dark and less when it’s too bright to ensure that photos are crisp and clear anytime, anywhere.

This level of clarity is possible thanks to Samsung’s pairing of a new F1.5 aperture lens, which is the brightest currently available on a smartphone, with an F2.4 lens.

The lenses automatically adjust their apertures to reduce visual distortion and deliver the best possible picture, and help the camera provide 28 percent better reception to light1. Users may also adjust the apertures manually by utilizing the camera’s Pro Mode.

The Galaxy S9’s upgraded Multi-Frame Noise Reduction technology enhances low-light image quality even further by capturing and combining 12 pictures in quick succession to eliminate up to 30 percent1 more noise and create a stunning shot.

Express Yourself with AR Emoji

Expressing yourself with animal emoji and cartoon characters can be fun, but as cute as they may be, they lack your distinct personality. That’s why Samsung developed the Galaxy S9’s AR Emoji feature – to offer users a visual communication tool that allows them to express themselves in a way that’s unique to them.

From a single selfie, the Galaxy S9’s machine-learning algorithm analyzes more than 100 distinct facial features, including your eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks and forehead, and uses that data to generate a personalized 3D avatar, or ‘my emoji,’ that looks just like you. Each is capable of mimicking the user’s own movements, in addition to supporting 18 pre-set expressions at launch, which makes it easy to punctuate any point with a dynamic visual.

Users can choose to create their own avatar, or pick one from a built-in selection of unique characters. Each is fully customizable, so users may edit their avatar’s facial features, hairstyle, accessories (such as glasses) and clothing to their liking. Samsung is also collaborating with various partners to add more fun and iconic characters to the AR Emoji roster very soon.

AR Emoji are compatible with messaging apps that utilizes the Samsung keyboard, and can easily be shared as GIFs or PNG files with anyone, no matter what kind of smartphone they have. To apply an extra layer of personalization to their device, users may also choose to use it as a wallpaper on their lock screen and home screen.

Deeper Bixby Integration2

Samsung’s intelligence platform, Bixby, is deeply integrated into the Galaxy S9’s camera, and utilizes augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide users with a wide range of helpful, real-time information about the world around them.

When the user points their camera at an object, Bixby recognizes what it’s looking at and instantly presents information related to that object overlaid on top of the image. Bixby currently features nine different camera modes, including Text, Food, Makeup, Wine, Shopping, Image, QR Code and more, which allow users to receive instant insight into their surroundings.

This means that, for instance, a user on a business trip abroad may utilize the Live Translation function under Bixby’s Text mode to instantly translate a menu or sign written in a foreign language, or even foreign currency, in real-time. Bixby is currently capable of detecting 54 languages and translating them into a total of 104, which means no more accidentally ordering the wrong dish when overseas!3

Speaking of food, Bixby Vision’s Food mode allows the Galaxy S9’s camera to provide comprehensive information on the food you’re eating, including the calorie count and recipes.4 Makeup mode delivers similar levels of analysis and convenience, allowing the Galaxy S9 to recognize the kinds of makeup that the person in the camera is wearing, and providing direct links to websites that sell them.5

A Dual Camera Is Twice As Fun

The best-in-class Dual Camera featured on the Galaxy S9+ is composed of a pair of 12MP cameras – an F1.5 wide-angle lens with Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor, and an F2.4 telephoto lens – that seamlessly combine their respective images into one.

The telephoto lens offers 2X optical and up to 10X digital zooming capabilities, while the camera’s dual optical image stabilization (OIS) technology ensures that both lenses provide crisp, clear shots even when the user has a shaky hand.

The camera’s Live Focus feature makes snapping selfies more fun, and allows you to easily capture a perfect portrait shot and adjust the depth of field before the picture is taken, or afterward, in the Gallery app. The Background Blur function offers users even more creative control over their pictures, allowing them to adjust their photo’s focus by applying a variety of shapes, including a heart or star to the background.

The Dual Capture feature was specifically designed to capture beauty in the background – or views that could be missed when taking a Live Focus shot. This function allows you to snap a close-up Live Focus portrait while also capturing the surrounding scenery, so the final photo will encapsulate the beauty of the moment in its entirety.

In addition, the cameras of both the Galaxy S9 and S9+ utilize machine learning technology to ensure that captured images are as clear as can be. The cameras’ Selfie Focus feature, for instance, automatically distinguishes the user’s face from their surroundings when taking a selfie, while Image Classification Solution automatically categorizes images and recognizes subjects’ surroundings to apply filters that make the photos looks like they were taken by a professional photographer.

Samsung Electronics, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced a total dual camera solution with ISOCELL Dual image sensors and proprietary software for two popular features – refocusing (bokeh) and low-light shooting (LLS). While such dual camera features had generally been exclusive to premium smartphones, Samsung’s ISOCELL Dual sensors and its library of proprietary software algorithms enable these features in lower price mobile devices.

“Dual cameras are delivering new and exciting photo-taking experiences on mobile devices,” said Ben K. Hur, vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s total solution for ISOCELL Dual will make our customers’ product development process easier, allowing them to bring the most optimized dual camera features to a wider range of consumers.”

Dual camera smartphones have two image sensors that capture different light information, enabling new features like refocusing and LLS. With these benefits, dual cameras are a growing trend in premium mobile devices. However, integrating dual cameras can be a difficult process for original equipment manufacturers (OEM), as it requires time-consuming optimization between the OEMs and different vendors developing the sensors and algorithm software. Samsung’s total dual camera solution will simplify that process and enable mid- to entry-level mobile devices to take advantage of certain camera features mainly available in premium devices equipped with an extra image signal processor.

To accelerate development and reduce optimization difficulties with dual camera smartphones, Samsung now offers the industry’s first total dual camera solution, with both ISOCELL Dual sensor hardware and sensor-optimized algorithm software. This enables even mid- to entry-level mobile devices to utilize popular dual camera features like refocusing and LLS. Samsung is coupling its refocusing algorithm with a 13 megapixel (Mp) and 5Mp set of image sensors, and its LLS algorithm with a set of two 8Mp sensors, to simplify implementation by OEMs.
