What does the future hold? Back in the 1950s, Doris Day answered that question with a simple lyric: “Que será, será, whatever will be, will be.” Her cheerful brand of fatalism encouraged a generation to let go of their worries and let the future unfold as it may. As the world now enters a new era of uncertainty, Samsung refuses to accept those laissez-faire lyrics with a promise to empower people to create their own future.

In the spirit of this approach, Samsung is launching its own brand campaign to kick off a year that will both celebrate the 10th anniversary of Galaxy smartphones and set the foundation for the next decade of new, innovative and groundbreaking products.

The campaign flips the carefree lyrics of the classic song on its head by juxtaposing them with Samsung’s bold leadership stance: What we create today empowers you to create the future. The campaign builds on Samsung’s “Do What You Can’t” philosophy in a video that highlights potential breakthrough technologies – including seamless multi-device experiences, artificial intelligence, and radical new displays – and teases Samsung’s 5G products and foldable display technology to be launched later this year.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, fashion designer or mobile gamer, Samsung is blazing the trail for change by bringing innovation to a wide variety of industries. Check out the video below to see how Samsung is reshaping the future for its users.

Few things capture the way we think and feel like the memes, GIFs and silly emojis; all of these have transformed the way we communicate and turned us into visual storytellers. With over 5 billion emojis sent every day, now more than ever we are telling our stories through images and illustrations, rather than talk or text.

Samsung has embraced this transformation in Galaxy S9/S9+ with a touch of Disney magic and GIPHY fun. With the roll-out of these all-new AR Emojis – and a range of other new messaging innovations – the Galaxy S9/S9+ makes chatting with friends more fun than ever before. Along with improved hardware, the AR Emojis have turned the camera into a dashboard that makes creating and remixing your shareable moments even easier.

Bring Disney Magic to Life

Have you ever wanted to meet the most famous mouse in the world? Samsung’s latest partnership with Disney is bringing your favorite characters to life with an all-new set of Disney-themed AR Emojis.

Users can now use Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, or Donald Duck AR Emojis by downloading the Disney characters from their camera and hitting record. The new Disney characters add to the variety of AR Emojis already available including your own personal My Emoji avatar and other cartoon characters.

AR Emojis use deep learning and facial recognition technology to map more than 100 facial features to produce a 3D replica, allowing users to create fun, customized messages to send to friends. So, whether you want to make your friends laugh as a silly rabbit, or tell them you love them as Mickey Mouse, there are more options than ever before on the Galaxy S9/S9+. Samsung and Disney plan to continue releasing more classic characters throughout the year, including favorites from The Incredibles, Frozen, and Zootopia.

Share More, Share Easier

Nothing captures a sarcastic quip or reaction like a good emoji or GIF. In fact, they are so good at capturing our emotions we send over 1 billion GIFs every day. With the Galaxy S9/S9+, Samsung has made them more customizable and shareable than ever before. The My Emoji feature automatically generates 18 emotions and saves them as custom stickers that are easily accessible from your Samsung Keyboard, along with other pre-loaded emojis and stickers. For now, there are 18 different custom stickers, but new updates will bring the total to 54. Since they use the AGIF format, you can share them with anyone, no matter what kind of smartphone they have.

Third-party applications also support My Emoji stickers through use of the Samsung Keyboard, so no matter the platform you use, you can send any of your custom emojis to friends and family. Besides the wide variety AR Emoji brings to your chats, Samsung has partnered with GIPHY so that sending your GIFs is even easier. So, if you’re just chatting with friends, or making a sarcastic quip to mom and dad, now you can send GIFs right from your Samsung Keyboard.

The new Samsung Keyboard features 30 categories of GIFs to choose from including happy, fun, thumbs up, and OMG. Whether you’re sassy, silly, or sarcastic, there is a GIF for you.

Choose from More Emojis Than Ever

While the Face with Tears of Joy may have captured the comedic highs and tragic lows of a generation, the time to update our emoji repertoire has come. Samsung has answered that call by adding more than 200 new emojis to the Samsung Keyboard.

In addition to the new emojis, Samsung has also opted for a redesign of the classic icons already available.

Whether you want to cheer up a friend, say “hello” to mom, or reach out to a lost connection, the Galaxy S9/S9+ brings you a plethora of options to express yourself, proving once again that it is built for the way we communicate today.

Kuala Lumpur, 5 February 2018 – To Samsung, the phrase Do What You Can’t carries a very profound meaning – to never be complacent, to keep defying barriers,

Kuala Lumpur, 5 February 2018 – To Samsung, the phrase Do What You Can’t carries a very profound meaning – to never be complacent, to keep defying barriers, and ultimately achieving the impossible. With a goal to empower consumers in realising their ambitions, Samsung stops at nothing to create innovative technologies so that people can do impossible things.

“We are reaching out to this generation of doers, people who go out and make things happen. We want them to know that if the phone in your pocket can do anything, so can you. When the opportunity to support our first national figure skater Julian Yee came about, we jumped at the chance because Julian is a prime example of what it means to Do What You Can’t. Against all odds, Julian is today an Olympic contender in a sport that isn’t even common in Malaysia – and for that we are very proud of him and we hope others would see him as an inspiration to achieve greater things,” said Mr Yoonsoo Kim, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

“Just like how Julian was able to achieve what many thought was unrealistic, we decided to remain in that spirit, and produce a beautiful and creative video from a mobile device. Both Julian and the video have shown us at Samsung that with the right mindset, attitude and support, Doing What You Can’t is something very attainable after all,” Mr Yoonsoo Kim added.

In view of the coming Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, Samsung prepared a short feature film entitled “Julian and His Magical Skates”, a special tribute to the rising star. The video was fully recorded and illustrated with the Samsung Galaxy Note8 and its S Pen, further cementing Samsung’s progress in innovation and of doing the impossible.

The Galaxy Note8 is Samsung’s ultimate productivity device, the very tool to help you push boundaries and break past your limits. With its one-of-a-kind S Pen, it allowed the creative team behind the video to bring the beautiful illustrations to life. Thanks to its large and gorgeous Infinity Display, there was a clear canvas big enough for the artists to place their quality work on.

Mr Chan Woei Hern, Executive Creative Director of Ensemble Worldwide Malaysia, who was commissioned to produce this brand film, shared that, “The best technologies are often the simplest ones. Like a pair of skates or the S Pen. Two seemingly ordinary tools, but in the right hands or in Julian’s case, feet, it can capture people’s attention and imagination. As we heard Julian’s story, we wanted to get into the mood of Do What You Can’t as well. And that meant scripting, sketching and creating the story entirely from scratch with a Galaxy Note8 and S Pen. That’s the magic of technology at work. We’ll be releasing a behind-the-scenes video soon, shot entirely on a Galaxy Note8 as well, so everyone can experience the journey as we brought the video to life.”

“My story is a tale of Do What You Can’t because I really did; and I want to remind everyone out there that young or old, you CAN achieve your dreams and you will be surprised that you CAN actually do what you never thought you could. With innovations and advanced technology in today’s world to help make things easier, none of us should be held back by “ifs”, “buts”, or “maybes”. We should all have that burning spirit to achieve the impossible – and from here on out, it should be “yes”, “can”, and “Do What We Can’t”!” said Julian Yee.

“Julian and His Magical Skates” is the telling of Julian’s journey to the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, and a reiteration of Samsung’s “Do What You Can’t” message to inspire others to break barriers to fuel meaningful progress and realise their dreams.

To view the short feature titled “Julian and His Magical Skates”, visit http://www.samsung.com/my/magicalskates/. Let’s bookmark this video as a reminder to continue pursuing what we are passionate about, and to continue supporting Julian as he represents Malaysia on the global Olympic stage.
