While majority of us only consider breaking away from the mundane cycle of our 9-5 desk jobs, a group of intrepid millennials are redefining what it means to embrace the present by seizing the proverbial bull by the horns and combining remote working and travel into an enviable lifestyle of exploration. This group, fondly known as digital nomads, are arguably the bravest and most exciting personalities to be associated with because they know exactly what they want to do and how they want to get it done. They are doers and challengers of the norm, and they explore interesting methods to push past barriers to achieve their goals. So what is it that makes the nomadic lifestyle viable? One word: technology.

Yes, while the improvement of internet speed, the appearance of co-working spaces, and the growing acceptance of remote work contracts between individuals and businesses attribute to the rising number of nomadic professionals, it is the advances in technology that make our world ever more interconnected and accessible. Technology isn’t just an enabler, it is the catalyst that rockets these location-independent professionals into a lifestyle of great work-life balance.

What digital nomads appreciate most is mobility – the ability to get things done from anywhere and at any time they see fit. They rely heavily on smartphones, laptops and tablets for work and connectivity purposes; and this boils down to how far a smart device can go to supplement and complement a digital nomad’s life. Where devices are concern, Samsung delivers a unified experience through advanced smartphones such as its flagship Galaxy Note8 and S8/S8+ as well as a series of connected gears that make up a seamless ecosystem to take productivity and communication to the next level.

When it comes to productivity, the S Pen is by far the most versatile tool made up of an intuitive design and powerful functions to make multi-tasking a breeze. For digital nomads, ideas flow at any given time so penning them down quickly is vital. For this, there is the Screen-Off Memo where notes can be written on the screen without unlocking the phone. Work becomes convenient with Screen Write where articles, emails and documents are easily saved as one image and annotations can be added to work files for easy reference. The Scroll Capture feature brings screenshots to the next level as it is able to capture entire web pages (up to 100 pages) into one handy shareable file. Moreover, digital nomads can utilize the Smart Select feature to create GIFs to share with friends on social media.

Supporting the S Pen is the Infinity Display, a large bezel-free screen that allows digital nomads to see more and scroll less, giving them more room to watch, read, work and draw. The Galaxy Note8 and S8/S8+’s Infinity Display is equipped with the Multi Window function where the new App Pair feature helps users create a custom pair of apps on the Edge Panel to simultaneously launch two apps with ease. Now who says you can only do one thing at a time on your smartphone?

Part of living the digital nomad life is to work and travel, so you don’t miss out on the myriad of experiences life has to offer. This is where Samsung presents powerful smartphone cameras in its flagship devices for users to capture moments and milestones. Digital nomads can ditch their bulky cameras and travel light with smartphones like the Galaxy Note8 and S8/S8+ that capture great images, which are just as good as professional cameras. The Dual-Pixel Sensor, wide aperture and fast autofocus of the 12MP F1.7 rear camera work together to create beautiful photographs, even in low-light conditions.

If you think mobile photography just went up a notch, wait until you try the Galaxy dual camera with dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). For added creative control, the new Live Focus feature lets users adjust the bokeh effect before and after the photo is taken. In Dual Capture mode, both cameras work simultaneously to capture two separate images – one close-up shot from the telephoto lens and one wide-angle shot that show the entire background – so digital nomads will never have to miss a moment.

For the more focused digital nomad, there is the Samsung DeX for an inclusive mobile desktop experience. Digital nomads will find DeX very useful because it allows them to use their Galaxy Note8 and S8/S8+ as they would with a desktop, by providing a seamless, secure mobile-to-PC transition. Apps within the smartphone itself can be accessed without hassle, and they can even browse the web, send messages and more directly from their phone on a larger display, without having to carry multiple devices or transfer data. It supports keyboard and mouse gestures, allowing the smartphones to function as efficiently as a PC. This way, digital nomads get to do more with little devices on-the-go, and they can still get a lot done in a day.

The popularity of digital nomadism owes itself to the rapid development of modern society; and advances in technology and attitudes could make digital nomadism and remote working not only easier, but also more popular than it already is. Today, a lot of work can be done from anywhere on a smartphone with ease and efficiency, if not more than in a traditional office. Samsung fills the gap by offering the best in smartphone technology, providing digital nomads with the flexibility to multitask and freedom to create, express and document their work-life journey.

Kuala Lumpur, 21 September 2017 – The next level Note has arrived! Excitement filled the atmosphere at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur as fans gathered to witness the official launch of Samsung’s most advanced device of the year, the Samsung Galaxy Note8. Dubbed as the ultimate productivity tool that drives achievers to do bigger things in work and life, the Galaxy Note8 is a combination of powerful features and ground-breaking innovations.

“People are consistently striving to do bigger and better things; and their relentless passion and spirit to achieve more has inspired us to design the new Note to ultimately help people reach their goals and potentials. The new Galaxy Note8 features a refined design, an enhanced S Pen, a best-in-class dual camera, and innovative entertainment and productivity capabilities to help people do bigger things. It is more than just a smartphone — it is a device that works the way we live, and empowers us to make things happen,” said Mr KM Liew, Head of IT & Mobile Business, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

While the innovative features and the sleek design of the Galaxy Note8 stole the hearts and minds of tech enthusiasts, it was the special appearance of Korea’s Running Man ace, Song Ji-Hyo that captured the attention of invited guests and sent the crowd into a rapturous cheer. Addressing the crowd at the launch event, the Korean gameshow star was on a mission to show Malaysian fans a new form of communication using the Galaxy Note8’s newest S Pen feature, Live Message.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of the Galaxy Note series so as soon as I heard Samsung was launching the Galaxy Note8 in Malaysia, I immediately got on board. This was the perfect opportunity for me to engage with my Malaysian fans and show them what I’ve been practising back home! Communication today has evolved tremendously compared to when we had limited options. With today’s technology, we can express ourselves in ways we never could before; and this makes communicating so fun and exciting! Check out all my fun giftographs I designed with the Note8’s S Pen!” exclaimed Song Ji-Hyo at the Galaxy Note8 launch event.

With the Galaxy Note8, Samsung continues to showcase its heritage in both hardware and software innovation. Built on the Galaxy foundation users have come to know and love, the phone offers an optimal user experience with a large form factor that easily fits in one hand, innovative display design and technologies, and a line-up of thoughtfully designed accessories.

Enjoy and Do More on the Infinity Display

The Galaxy Note8 has the biggest screen ever on a Note device, yet its narrow body makes it comfortable to hold in one hand. The 6.3-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display lets you see more and scroll less. The Galaxy Note8 gives you more room to watch, read and draw—making it the ultimate multitasking smartphone.

Note users have long been able to do more with Multi Window. With the Galaxy Note8, the new App Pair feature lets you create a custom pair of apps on the Edge Panel and simultaneously launch two apps with ease. Watch a video while messaging your friends or dial into a conference call with the number and agenda in front of you.

A New Way to Communicate with the S Pen

Since its introduction, the S Pen has been one of the Note’s defining features. With the Galaxy Note8, the enhanced S Pen unlocks entirely new ways to write, draw, and interact with the phone and communicate with friends. It has a finer tip, improved pressure sensitivity, and features that enable users to express themselves in ways that no other stylus or smartphone ever has.

When communicating with text just isn’t enough, Live Message allows you to reveal your unique personality and tell expressive stories. With the Galaxy Note8, you can now share animated texts or drawings across platforms that support animated GIFs. It’s a whole new way to communicate with the S Pen—adding lively and emotional connections that bring your messages to life.

The Always On Display allows Galaxy users to stay on top of their notifications without unlocking their phone. And with the Galaxy Note8, it’s even more powerful. Screen off memo allows you to take up to one-hundred pages of notes as soon as you remove the S Pen, pin notes to the Always On Display and make edits directly from the Always On Display.

For overseas travels or when you come across a website in a foreign language, the improved S Pen Translate feature lets you hover over text to quickly translate not only individual words, but entire sentences in up to 71 languages, and instantly convert units and foreign currencies.

Better Pictures with Galaxy Note8’s Best-in-Class Camera

For most consumers, one of the things they look for when purchasing a new device is the camera. Samsung set the standard for smartphone cameras and with the Galaxy Note8; we are delivering our most powerful smartphone camera yet.

The Galaxy Note8 is the first smartphone with two 12MP rear cameras with Dual Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses. Whether you are exploring a new city or running around your backyard, OIS lets you capture sharper images.

For more advanced photo-taking, the Galaxy Note8’s Live Focus feature lets you control the depth of field by allowing you to adjust the bokeh effect in preview mode and after you take the photo. In Dual Capture mode, both rear cameras take two pictures simultaneously and allow you to save both images; one close-up shot from the telephoto lens and one wide-angle shot that shows the entire background.

The wide-angle lens has a Dual Pixel sensor with rapid Auto Focus, so you can capture sharper, clearer shots even in low-light environments. The Galaxy Note8 is also equipped with an industry-leading 8MP Smart Auto Focus front-facing camera for sharp selfies and video chats.

Galaxy of Features and Services

The Galaxy Note8 is built on the Galaxy legacy—a collection of unique features and capabilities that, together, have redefined the mobile experience:

Water and Dust Resistance: Four years ago, Samsung introduced the first Galaxy device with water resistance. And today, you can take your Note almost anywhere you want with water and dust resistance (IP68*) on the device and the S Pen. You can write even when the display is wet.

Fast Wireless Charging: Two years ago, Samsung introduced the first Galaxy device with wireless charging. The Galaxy Note8 supports the most advanced wireless charging capabilities yet, so you can get a quick, convenient charge without having to mess around with ports or wires.

Security: The Galaxy Note8 offers a choice of biometric authentication options—including iris and fingerprint scanning. Samsung Knox provides defense-grade security at the hardware and software layers and with Secure Folder, keeps your personal and professional data separate.

Innovative Mobile Experiences: Samsung DeX enables a desktop experience, powered by your phone. You can keep your files on your device, conduct work on the go, and use Samsung DeX when you need an even bigger screen.

Beyond Phone Experience

Beyond the essential features and typical phone experiences, the Galaxy Note8 elevates the experience for premiere mobile connectivity and entertainment with the new Gear VR with Controller (RRP: RM499). Enabling convenient one-handed control and navigation, the controller provides better motion interaction when accessing interactive VR content. With improved lenses, ergonomics, and expanded compatibility, the new and improved Gear VR headset challenges the very concept of virtual reality, redefining the limits of what it is capable of.

Adding on to the Galaxy ecosystem, the Galaxy Note8 pairs seamlessly to the brand’s latest GPS sports band, the enhanced water-resistant Gear Fit2 Pro, to help users stay motivated, maintain a healthy lifestyle and achieve their fitness goals. A device that makes every move count, the new Gear Fit2 Pro features advanced built-in GPS tracking to capture your run or ride with accurate activity tracking. On top of its new swim and heart rate monitoring capabilities, Gear Fit2 Pro’s Super AMOLED curved 1.5-inch display and a high-resolution colour touchscreen make real-time updates and notifications easier to read.

Users can leave their physical wallet behind with Samsung Pay, turning their Galaxy Note8 into a digital wallet they can use almost anywhere they would use a credit or debit card. With more than 870 worldwide banking partnerships, Samsung Pay has processed more than 240 million transactions to date. Samsung Pay has also added a growing number of loyalty, membership and gift cards, and it continues to add innovative new features like Deals, which shows coupons and discounts at nearby stores that users can redeem instantly.

“We want to build on the success of Samsung Pay by giving new users even more reasons to try it out – not to mention, thank our existing customers for using a service they already love. That is why we are excited to offer Samsung Pay users a first-of-its-kind rewards programme for a mobile payments platform: Samsung Rewards,” said Mr KM Liew, Head of IT & Mobile Business, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

Samsung Rewards works just like a points-based credit card rewards program. Every time you make a purchase with Samsung Pay, you earn rewards points. Samsung Rewards also has loyalty tiers with point multipliers – you can earn double, triple, or even quadruple points, depending on how often you use the service each month. In conjunction with the Galaxy Note8 launch in Malaysia, Samsung Malaysia Electronics is rewarding Galaxy Note8 users with 450 welcome points!

The Galaxy Note8 is available in Malaysia beginning 21st September 2017. Offered at the recommended retail price of RM3,999 (inclusive of 6% GST), the Galaxy Note8 is available in three colour options – Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Maple Gold.

Kuala Lumpur, 6 September 2017 – Pictures capture the essence of life. They evoke emotions, they tell stories and they inspire dreams. Pictures when properly taken are powerful; and while photography skills are essential in great picture-taking, the tools used to take pictures make a world of difference. In a mobile photography workshop held recently, Samsung Malaysia Electronics together with artistic photographer Michael Yeoh taught users the art and science behind the capture of stunning portraits and landscapes by using the brand’s first and powerful dual camera smartphone, the Galaxy Note8.

“Our vision is to take smartphone photography to a whole new level, to redefine the future of photography. We want users to capture special moments the way they want to remember them and our latest mobile camera innovations introduced in the Galaxy Note8 allow them to just do that. We want users to do what they can’t before, to capture big and express bigger,” said Mr KM Liew, Head of IM Business, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The Dual Camera

The Galaxy Note8’s dual camera is made up of two separate cameras and their respective image sensors that work in a complimentary way to each other. One camera functions like a normal camera, capturing colour images while the second camera adds elements that are not captured with the primary sensor (first camera). When a user takes a picture, two separate images are captured. It is the combination of both of these images that produce a clear, high-quality photography with a greater depth of field. It also utilizes both the phone’s rear wide-angle lens and telephoto lens simultaneously to product optimal results.

Zooming Capabilities

With 2X optical and up to 10X digital zooming capabilities, the dual camera is able to capture clear, high quality close-up shots, be it far distances or low lighting conditions. The telephoto lens uses the optics or optical zoom of the camera, to make the subject appear close without enlarging any portion of it compared to how digital zoom does. In doing so, the optical zoom produces professional-looking images without losing quality. For example, when taking a picture during a concert, users are now able to zoom in and capture all details on the stage.

Stand Tall Above All

In addition to its zooming capabilities, the dual camera, with its fast F1.7 wide-angle lens with Dual Pixel technology and F2.4 telephoto lens, quickly and accurately pinpoints the subject to which the user is focusing on, and thus able to capture sharper and brighter shots even in low light conditions. With the dual Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), users can get crisp, focused images in all lighting conditions, even when they are shooting with an unsteady hand.

Furthermore, new Live Focus and Dual Capture feature gives users creative control to produce stunning photographs that stands above the rest. For example, with Live Focus, it allows user to adjust the bokeh effect – the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image – to change the depth of field of a shot. Users can control the intensity of the overall blur effect and apply it before taking the image in preview mode, or after capturing the photo in the Gallery app.

While many users prefer to make their subjects stand out by blurring the scenery around them, sometimes the background is just as important, such as when capturing a loved one in front of a famous iconic landmark. In Dual Capture mode, both the phone’s rear wide-angle and telephoto lenses work simultaneously to capture two separate images. Users can then access both zoomed-in and wide angel versions of the shot from the Gallery.

The Galaxy Note8 is also equipped with an industry-leading 8MP F1.7 autofocus front-facing camera for sharp selfies and video chats. Its bright lens keeps details clear even in low light, while Smart Auto Focus tracks the faces in the shot.

Incorporating Samsung’s best-in-class dual camera, with dual OIS on both lenses, along with new Live Focus and Dual Capture features, the Galaxy Note8 is the ultimate device for taking photos that are crisp, clear and capture special moments in the way users want to remember them.
