After a two-year hiatus, Europe’s biggest home appliances trade show is back and better than ever. IFA 2022 took place offline on September 2 in Berlin, Germany, where Samsung Electronics showcased its latest lineup in the Samsung Town exhibition hall. With various zones, such as the SmartThings Life Zone and Everyday Sustainability Zone, visitors could experience the latest products in visual display, home appliances, mobile and memory categories.

Samsung Newsroom takes you to the scene of Samsung Town in this three-story series. In this first story, we’ll cover Samsung’s eco-conscious efforts for sustainable daily lives. At its SmartThings Home booth, Samsung Electronics showcased its vision for the future of home living. The booth featured a setup of seven real home spaces, such as a bedroom, living room and kitchen, allowing visitors to experience and learn about the capabilities of SmartThings.

SmartThings presents a fully integrated home experience by connecting not only Samsung products and services but also third-party devices such as lighting and window blinds to cater to your own lifestyle. SmartThings also helps consumers live a more sustainable life by suggesting ways users can save energy around the home by analyzing energy usage patterns and more.

A 2019 CES Innovation award honoree in the software and mobile apps product category, the new Family Hub continues to set a new standard for connected living, bringing the family together in the kitchen while freeing users up to focus on what’s important to them. As the new generation of homeowners look to technology to define both who they are and how they want to live their lives, there is no better place to do this than in a connected kitchen.

Packed with enhanced AI and IoT capabilities as well as the new Family Board, a communal screen that family members can interact with in a personalized way, the Family Hub helps foster true family connection, food management, and a connected home experience in today’s fast-paced modern world.

Seamless Home Intelligence with the new Bixby

A feature that sets the 2019 Family Hub apart from previous iterations is support for the new Bixby that allows for a smarter, hands-free, more personalized way to use the Family Hub. The new Bixby offers more services, allowing users to seamlessly control and monitor home IoT devices and services from the kitchen with your voice alone.

Users can ask Bixby for their Morning Brief while getting breakfast ready for the kids so they know all of their daily essentials such as the weather and top news. All of this appears on the Family Hub screen so they can see as well as hear it. Through Bixby’s voice ID technology, each family member’s voice is distinguished, so everyone can get tailored information for their individual needs. Bixby is even smarter and more conversational – allowing users to interact more naturally. Imagine, users can now search for a plane ticket through Expedia, call an Uber and pre-set the oven temperature just by talking to the Family Hub.

A lot of multitasking is required in the kitchen, so it can get quite hectic when you have to chop, prepare, and cook dishes at the same time. It gets even more tricky when your phone starts to ring. With an enhanced Smart View, multitasking is made easy, as you can mirror third-party apps on Family Hub’s screen seamlessly from your Galaxy phone, without the need to run the Smart View app on the fridge. Not only does the new Bixby allow you to answer a call hands-free, you can also browse through the millions of third-party apps available for the kitchen.

It’s now even easier for users to manage their apps on Family Hub, with efficient installation, updates and deletion from the Apps menu. On top of that, the Home Service can set the mood with music when you are preparing a small gathering or turn on your favorite playlist while you are cooking.

Taking intelligence a step further, with the Family Hub’s seamless integration of SmartThings, owners can now see and control hundreds of Samsung and third-party smart home devices right from the refrigerator screen and by voice with Bixby.

Share Memories and Memos on the Family Board

One of the most exciting new features is the Family Board. Families around the world use their refrigerator doors as bulletin-boards to share various things with each other – whether it’s by posting each family member’s schedule and the weekly menu, attaching travel magnets of the countries that they have visited, or proudly displaying the kids’ artworks for everyone to see.

The Family Board allows family members to interact with one another and share countless memories, giving the refrigerator’s screen a familiar, analogue feel. Meanwhile the Home Screen offers a digital service experience with an overview of important information and apps. Users can now have a devoted screen to share photos, messages and memories on their fridge, and are able to customize their photos with different photo styles, add handwritten notes and stickers, and even change the background colour to match their kitchen – all bringing the family closer to elevate the way they connect and share. The new Whiteboard has been updated with smart calligraphy that can recognize handwriting and a drawing function that can identify the objects depicted.

The Family Hub also features a dynamic screen saver that can be used to display precious family moments or blend into your home with ambient mode when Family Hub’s touch screen is not in use.

Get Smart with Healthier Food Management 

From the beginning, food management with Family Hub has been a cornerstone feature elevating the way homeowners manage their food – whether using “View Inside” to see if they need eggs from their smartphone while at the store or adding items to their shopping list and tagging expiration dates. The Family Hub enables a user to create better and healthier meals with Meal Planner, which customizes recipes based on food preferences, dietary needs and the items in the fridge.

Last but not least, the kitchen experience has become more intelligent and efficient with updated features for Food Management. With the new Family Hub 2019, users can search for healthy recipes or preset the oven directly from the Recipes app with easy-to-use voice features. Users can also add items to your Shopping List or tag items for reminders and expiration dates.

Marking the 10th anniversary, this year’s Samsung Forum was a platform to share the company’s business strategy and vision with key partners. Samsung outlined its unique ability to make seamlessly connected consumer experiences across Samsung devices, and unveiled its new range of products, including its 2019 QLED TV lineup, the Frame, the next-generation Family Hub refrigerator, revolutionary washing machine technology QuickDrive, as well as its lifestyle TVs. Samsung exhibited its connected solutions that are based on ‘New Bixby,’ Samsung’s intelligence platform.

Expansion of Consumer Choice with the Full 2019 QLED TV Lineup

As a market leader in the TV industry for 13 years, Samsung announced its entire 2019 QLED TV lineup that will be available in more than 60 markets within this year. The company will continuously increase the market share in the 8K TV market to sustain its solid dominance in the premium TV market.

The key products unveiled in the 2019 QLED lineup were a suite of 8K and 4K TVs, including the 8K Q900R that ranges from 65-inch to 98-inch screen sizes, as well as the 4K Q90R, Q80R, Q70R and Q60R that range from 43-inch to 82-inch sizes. In total, the expanded 2019 QLED lineup features more than 20 models and includes more ultra-large TV models.

To provide more entertainment options and open platform functionality, Samsung Smart TVs will offer a new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app and support Apple AirPlay 2. Additionally, through 2019 Samsung Smart TVs that now work with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant, a user can enjoy various features such as turning on/off TV or controlling audio volume via simple voice commands.

Also displayed were Samsung’s leading lifestyle TVs, the new ‘The Frame’ and ‘The Wall’, with unique design values and improved resolution after the adoption of QLED display for the first time.

Connected Home Solutions that Deliver Simplicity

Samsung’s commitment to making lives easier and simpler for consumers was also brought to life in its new line-up of connected solutions, exhibited at Samsung Forum 2019. Based on ‘New Bixby’, global business partners witnessed the connected life experience with various products including QLED 8K and the new Family Hub 4.0.

The winner of the CES Best of Innovation award for four consecutive years, the 2019 Family Hub, ensures better control of complex features with voice commands by supporting ‘New Bixby’, enabling enriched family communication and enhanced connections with other devices.

Samsung also showcased its revolutionary next generation washing machine technology QuickDrive, which provides consumers the power to dramatically reduce the time it takes to do a load of laundry in half¹.

Samsung 2018 QLED TV range in size from 55-inch to 82-inch models, offering the large-screen viewing experience. The stunningly sharp picture quality of Samsung’s 2018 QLED TVs is engineered to make the beautiful game look even more beautiful. The 4K Q Engine featureharnesses AI to analyze and optimize content, ensuring that the movement of the grass during play is clearly defined and without blur, providing a more vivid experience. The Super AMOLED screens and Infinity Displays of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ maximize definition and space allowing viewers to see more. The HDR-capable display provides impeccable accuracy and Adaptive Contrast Enhancement achieves clear definition, even in direct sunlight. TV Experience Designed Around Users

Enhancing the TV experience for consumers, Samsung announced the introduction of the SmartThings app to its 2018 Smart TVs, thereby allowing the TV to become a dashboard for the user’s IOT ecosystem. Users will be able to manage connected devices from the largest screen in their home, as well as seamlessly sync multiple devices to easily share content and notifications.

Samsung also unveiled its new line-up of premium lifestyle soundbar products to enhance the TV experience. The wall-mountable NW700 Sound+ soundbar succeeds the award-winning MS650 Sound+ model and incorporates sound-enhancing features, such as distortion-cancelling, wide-range tweeters and multi-speaker control. Samsung’s commitment to making lives easier and simpler for consumers was also brought to life in its new line-up of home appliances.

The next-generation Family Hub refrigerator continues to pioneer and redefine the refrigerator category. A winner of the recent 2018 CES Best of Innovation award, Family Hub sets a new standard for connected living, and offers a wide range of smart features, such as syncing up food storage with meal preparation, keeping family members better connected and organised, and providing enhanced entertainment. This next-generation Family Hub is also more intuitive and intelligent with the addition of Bixby voice control and its integration with Samsung’s SmartThings IoT ecosystem.

Samsung also introduced its revolutionary new washing machine technology QuickDrive, which provides consumers the power to dramatically reduce the time it takes to do a load of laundry in half1. In addition to the QuickDrive technology, the WW7800M washing machine is also IoT-ready, boasting an AI-powered laundry assistant called Q-rator, which provides smart features that help manage laundry more conveniently.

The potential of artificial intelligence (AI) is exciting and vast, with researchers just starting to understand all the potential applications. However, one solution which users can tap into now, to experience how AI can make their lives more convenient and easier, is Samsung Electronics’ HomeCare Wizard. The unique AI-based service solution, available on Samsung’s 2018 smart home appliances, essentially enables devices to diagnose themselves for not only system errors, but to enhance efficiency and to help users use their appliances better.

To provide an example of how HomeCare Wizard works, just imagine if a refrigerator starts to provide less cooling than usual. HomeCare Wizard will immediately detect and provide an alert that something is off, as well as diagnose the cause of the problem without requiring the visit of a technician. Through analysis of usage patterns, HomeCare Wizard will also help users better maintain and utilize their appliances, like reminding them when it’s time to clean the washing machine tub or providing tips to ensure the best energy efficiency.

What is it?

HomeCare Wizard made its debut with the recent launch of Samsung’s QuickDrive washing machines, and utilizes AI learning to offer users benefits that go above and beyond the scope of similar diagnostic services. Whereas similar services’ diagnoses are typically limited to cut-and-dry system errors, HomeCare Wizard’s advanced algorithm also alerts users of less obvious factors that may be affecting their device’s efficiency, in particular non-system related errors. For instance, if the air conditioner’s breeze isn’t quite cool enough due to something like a contaminated filter, which a user can easily clean on his or her own, HomeCare Wizard can quickly diagnose such issues.

Therein lies another of the solution’s key benefits. If HomeCare Wizard determines that a particular issue does not require a service professional to be dispatched to a user’s home, it will provide simple instructions to help users solve the problem by themselves. This reduces the need for users to schedule such visits, and helps them find the solutions they need faster.

Identifying and explaining an issue’s exact source can also be difficult at times and in such cases a user will need to call a Samsung service center to get to the bottom of the problem. As HomeCare Wizard sends the device’s diagnostic data directly to the service center, the service center will be fully aware of the nature of the problem before the call is even made.

Why is it So Compelling?

More often than not, when appliances don’t behave the way users are supposed to and it is difficult to figure out why, the result is hours spent scouring the web or contacting a service center for answers. In other instances, users are forced to wait for a technician to visit their home. The promise of HomeCare Wizard, through AI, is the potential to change this paradigm as smart devices and appliances essentially diagnose, and even give solutions, themselves.

HomeCare Wizard’s technology also has the added benefit of making it easy for users to monitor energy use and usage patterns, and utilize their devices more efficiently. Users have the option to receive regular usage reports through the mobile app, which in addition to offering 24-hour troubleshooting and diagnostics, will provide customized tips based on users’ usage patterns to help them get more out of a particular appliance. This means that, for example, a washing machine with HomeCare Wizard can determine which laundry cycles are used most frequently, notify users of how often they’re doing laundry, and present them with the option to save their top three most frequently used cycles as ‘favorites’.

How Does it Work?

To provide such deep-level analysis, HomeCare Wizard compares a device’s previous operation alongside its current status in order to diagnose recurring problems.  Through the constant study and improvement of algorithms by Samsung’s Digital Appliance development team, HomeCare Wizard has been developed to analyze and study changes in sensor data at the industry’s most comprehensive levels, while the appliances are running. The more often users use their devices, the more precisely HomeCare Wizard can suggest solutions.

HomeCare Wizard will be available on a wide range of products in Samsung’s 2018 smart appliance lineup, including the company’s latest washing machines, Family Hub refrigerators, air conditioners, cooking appliances, and robot vacuum cleaners.

Samsung Electronics today announced that it will showcase its advanced built-in appliances, including its widely acclaimed Samsung Chef Collection lineup that incorporates Samsung’s most intuitive smart technologies, at the 2018 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Orlando, Florida. The show, on January 9 -11, will be the first time in 7 years that Samsung is attending as an exhibitor, reaffirming its strong commitment to the US as the world’s largest premium built-in home appliances market.

Samsung will be exhibiting in booth W770, displaying its latest innovations in the appliance category to the builder and designers, and demonstrating the strong appeal of Samsung appliances in growing millennials with its advanced appliance designs and technologies.

The Samsung booth will highlight six different kitchen packages across wide range of prices, including both the black stainless-steel and standard stainless-steel packages from the Chef Collection lineup. Samsung will also highlight the increasing prevalence of the smart home trend with a Connected Living zone that features Samsung’s award-winning Family Hub refrigerator and the FlexWash and QuickDrive washing machines.

Samsung’s premium built-in Chef Collection on display includes many of Samsung’s most advanced technologies such as the Remote View camera incorporated into refrigerators and Virtual Flame of induction cooktops. Also on display will be the chef-inspired features in a premium suite of wall ovens, cooktops, pro ranges, dishwashers, and refrigerators including the fully integrated 42” Built-In 4-Door Flex model. All models have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capabilities for full connected control in a smart home.
