Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, will harness the power of Galaxy technology to continue supporting connected

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, will harness the power of Galaxy technology to continue supporting connected Games-time experiences for athletes and fans at Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, helping them create lifelong memories of the Games.

Samsung’s central message for Paris 2024 is “Open always wins,” which articulates the belief that with an open mind, every new experience becomes a meaningful achievement — a sentiment embodied by the athletes competing at the Paralympic Games. Samsung will celebrate the open-mindedness and resilience demonstrated by Paralympians, harnessing its latest mobile technology to open up new experiences and possibilities for athletes, fans, and the rest of the world, during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“Samsung has been a Paralympic Games partner for almost two decades, and as committed supporters of the Paralympic Movement, we’re proud to help deliver the best possible Games-time experience for athletes, fans, spectators and volunteers at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with our latest mobile technology,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “It is an honor to bring fans across the world closer to their favorite Paralympians, their stories and uncompromising spirit, as they forge new paths and inspire greatness.”

Continued Support of the Paralympic Movement

Samsung’s support of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games follows an 18-year partnership which began at the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games. During this time, Samsung has used its mobile technology to engage and inspire fans and supporters while raising awareness of the Paralympic Movement. The “Dialogue in the Dark” demonstration at Sochi 2014 saw visitors at the Galaxy Studio Olympic Park experience a day in the life of a visually impaired person to help visitors understand the challenges they can experience from their perspective. Similarly, at PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, visitors at the Samsung experience space were able to try the Relúmĭno feature in conjunction with Samsung Gear VR, which helped those with low vision see the world more clearly. Samsung will continue to promote sporting excellence and shared values embodied by Paralympic athletes through its ongoing support of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Championing Team Samsung Galaxy Trailblazers

For the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Samsung has been supporting its roster of Team Samsung Galaxy athletes. The team of trailblazers, who were selected due to their impact on and off the field of play, includes French blind footballer and Olympic Torchbearer Yvan Wouandji and Paralympians Johannes Floors (para athletics, Germany), Madison De Rozario (para athletics, Australia), Ugo Didier (para swimming, France), Hee-jin Kim (goalball, Korea), Kadeena Cox (para cycling and para athletics, Great Britain) and Desirée Vila (para athletics, Spain). The athletes shared their sentiments regarding Samsung’s support:

Ugo Didier: “The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are particularly special, taking place in my home country. Beyond the competition, I want to show that with enough dedication, everyone can compete in sporting events and achieve world-class performances regardless of disability, so I’m grateful to be working alongside Samsung to share this message.”

Madison De Rozario: “Technology is playing a significant role in our entire movement of sport. To make a tangible impact on fans and people, you need to be able to connect with them to truly learn who they are and for them to know who you are. It’s an honor to be supported by Samsung as I go into my fifth Paralympic Games to bring people around the world closer to the Paralympic Movement.”

Johannes Floors: “To be a successful Paralympian, determination is vital, but it also requires honest self-reflection, the ability to take criticism, meticulous engineering and open-mindedness to try the new and innovative approaches that ultimately set you up for success. I’m delighted to be working with Samsung, who share these values and reflect them in their own innovation.”

Additionally, Samsung released its film Voices of Galaxy, which spotlights Johannes Floors’ story — his motivation, determination, and passion to make an impact on next generation — in May.

Harnessing the Latest Technology for an Unforgettable Games-Time Experience

To enhance the athlete experience, Samsung is providing nearly 5,000 Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones to Paralympians competing in the Games. The exclusive edition features a suite of built-in services and apps to help athletes to enjoy Paris and navigate every aspect of their Games-time experience with ease. The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition supports the latest Galaxy AI features — as well as accessibility features — ensuring all Paralympians have the best experience possible.

Interpreter[1], which instantly translates live conversations, will allow all Paralympians to connect with fellow athletes from around the world. Bixby Vision for Accessibility, which gives audio descriptions of images and user surroundings, and Relúmĭno outline, which enhances the screen’s contrast and brightness or sharpens image outlines to increase visibility, allowing athletes with low vision to seamlessly navigate competition venues and stay connected with fans following their Paris 2024 journey.

Opening Up Fan Experiences To Put the Paralympic Spirit in Motion

The start of the Paralympic Games also marks the next wave of the popular Samsung Olympic Games Pin Collection, taking place at the fully accessible Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung pop-up experiences at Champs-Elysees 125 and Square Marigny in Paris. Fans of the Paralympic Games can participate in Galaxy AI experiences to complete their collection of 16 specially-designed pins, including four that represent Paralympic sports — blind football, para athletics, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis — to receive a new Galaxy Z Flip6 and a chance to win a round-trip package for two to attend Milano Cortina 2026. Fans will also have the opportunity to participate in an interactive journey through Samsung’s rich heritage around the Olympic and Paralympic Games and try out the latest Galaxy technology for themselves at the sites. In addition, Samsung plans to conduct a series of events and appearances at its OlympicTM Rendezvous @ Samsung pop-up experience sites throughout the Games to bring fans face-to-face with their favorite Paralympic athletes.

Fans and visitors can celebrate the Games and get closer to Samsung’s latest technology at the OlympicTM rendezvous @ Samsung sites, open throughout the duration of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games:

The OlympicTM rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny will be re-opened on August 29 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until September 8.

The OlympicTM rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Élysées 125 is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays until October 31.

One standout Galaxy AI feature in the new Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 instantly translates real-time conversations and offers live translations when users speak face-to-face through the unique dual screens on the foldables. Since the start of the Olympic Games, the Interpreter feature in Galaxy devices opened up the City of Light and helped athletes, volunteers and visitors chat with each other.

“I travel a lot, and sometimes there is a language barrier,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Wilma Anna Helena Murto (Athletics, Finland) who tested Interpreter when visiting Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Village Plaza alongside many other athletes. “This really makes a difference.”

“I can see how helpful the translation feature would be,” said Josefine Christoffersen, a visitor from Sweden who speaks Swedish and English. Since arriving on the 3rd of August, she enjoyed meeting people from all over the world at her first visit to the Olympic Games.

So far, Christoffersen has cheered on her favorite athletes while watching athletics, beach volleyball and handball. Originally from Martinique, he has been living in Paris for 12 years and worked at the pop-up experience since it opened in early May.

“People have been impressed when I show them the cover screen,” said Goma. “Even if it’s hard for them to hear, they can read the translation on the screen which is so helpful. They don’t even have to be connected to the network. They immediately recognize the impact, and it’s one of the most popular features here at the pop-up experience.”

The benefits of Galaxy AI made a difference for the thousands of volunteers who helped ensure the Paris 2024 Olympics was a smooth and fun experience for all. Emmanuel Mantilla Jr. from the Philippines has been in Paris since July 25 to volunteer at the Olympic Games for the first time.

“My first few days here were a little overwhelming because even though I speak several languages, I don’t speak French,” said Mantilla Jr. who had been stationed at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. “People thought maybe I couldn’t help them.”

“But Interpreter has been so helpful — not only for communicating with visitors but also with my fellow volunteers. I’ve been using the feature on my Galaxy S24 Ultra with many of the French colleagues in my volunteer group, and we all love it,” he added.

“There are always a lot of tourists in Paris, particularly on the Champs-Elysees,” said Goma. “But there are even more people here for the Olympic Games. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase Galaxy AI’s live translation capabilities, especially for all the visitors who don’t speak French. Now, they can celebrate together — whether at the Olympic Games or in everyday life.”

We’re pleased to join with our Worldwide Partner Samsung to continue to work together to identify and support talented young people at the intersection of sport and technology through the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” initiative.”

The Olympic medal ceremony is one of the most emotional and memorable moments for athletes as they realize a lifelong dream. However, the event has traditionally been photographed by accredited media only — captured from a distance and not from the athlete’s own lens.

Not anymore. In the spirit of a ‘Games Wide Open’ at Paris 2024, Samsung is helping athletes create and share new, more personal memories of the celebration atop the podium with the Victory Selfie powered by Galaxy.

In an Olympic Games first, medalists at Paris 2024 have been documenting their ceremonies from their own perspective as they were handed the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition on the podium to take their Victory Selfie after receiving their Olympic medals. The selfies have been uploaded automatically and wirelessly to the Athlete365 portal so athletes can share their moments on a whole new level — perfectly aligning with Samsung’s belief that ‘Open always wins’ and that openness creates new perspectives and infinite possibilities.

“To be able to share to share the moment of achieving my dream of winning a medal with my fans, family and friends around the world — through my own perspective — was incredible,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Rayssa Leal (Skateboarding, Brazil). “It not only amplified a moment I’ll never forget but also celebrated the camaraderie beyond the competition as my fellow medalists and I took the Victory Selfie together on the podium.”

Samsung Newsroom picked some of the best shots from the Paris 2024 medal ceremonies below. The new Victory Selfie program will continue throughout the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Who said an Olympic Opening Ceremony must happen inside a stadium? In a night of firsts, the Olympic Games Paris 2024 officially kicked off with a historic ceremony on the Seine River — and Samsung Electronics, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, provided the groundbreaking innovation that made it so special.

To bring fans closer to the action than ever before, Samsung installed more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones on the 85 athlete boats taking part in the Opening Ceremony. The event was livestreamed through a private 5G network powered by Orange (the official mobile network provider for Paris 2024 in France).

▲Team Kenya athlete shares a selfie with fans with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition.

Fans tuning into the broadcast were given a closer look at an already unique celebration of the Olympic spirit in the 2024 host city of Paris. Those who watched the Opening Ceremony could experience the event from the athletes’ point of view as they shared scenes from this memorable ceremony using their Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones.

▲Team Australia athlete shares a selfie with fans with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition.

Samsung collaborated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to create a meaningful night for athletes and fans — requiring extensive planning with various Olympic partners for real-time footage streams, seamless 5G connectivity and other technology support.

The opening ceremony livestream is just one of several ways Samsung is sharing the excitement from Paris 2024 with the world. The sailing competition in Marseille and Victory Selfies will also bring fans closer to the Olympic Games. For a brand-new view of the sailing competition in Marseille, Samsung is installing Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones to the boats and on the athletes’ shoulders. Furthermore, medalists can capture their emotions with Victory Selfies using the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition provided at the podium.

▲ Team Korea athletes share their experience with fans with their new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition.

More than 100 experts, 250 phones and 360 days of testing made delivering these moments possible. The efforts to enhance the viewing experience for fans around the world were all part of Paris 2024’s vision of ‘Games Wide Open.’ Through its mobile innovations, Samsung will inspire Paris 2024 athletes and fans to keep an open mind because ‘Open always wins.’

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, today revealed the Olympic Edition of its newly announced Galaxy Z Flip6, exclusively designed and customized for all athletes competing at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition continues Samsung’s over three-decade-long legacy of providing its cutting-edge technology and mobile innovations in support of the Games and represents a series of firsts.

The new Olympic Edition for Paris 2024 is the first-ever Olympic Edition to feature Galaxy AI. Designed to elevate the athletes’ Games-time experience from the moment they arrive in Paris, it is the first to come pre-loaded with a full suite of exclusive services and useful apps. In addition, it marks the first time Samsung’s newest product is being made available to athletes before its official market launch. The Galaxy Z Flip6 will also take center stage at the Olympic Games as the first Olympic Edition to play an integral role on the podium.

It boasts the new Galaxy Z Flip6’s compact and versatile design, in a striking yellow colorway adorned with the Olympic rings and Paralympic agitos in gold. To dress up the phone, Samsung partnered with the Parisian Men’s Luxury Maison, Berluti, who designed the Team France’s official outfits for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, to create an exclusive Flipsuit Case that will accompany each device. Made from Venezia leather, each Flipsuit Case has a unique patina featuring a vibrant color mix inspired by the Olympic rings, celebrating the Olympic spirit and values of excellence and unity.

“Samsung has pushed the boundaries of mobile technology in support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and its athletes for nearly three decades,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are honored to deliver our newest Galaxy innovation to the inspiring athletes of Paris 2024 — and give them the opportunity to experience the powerful and intelligent Galaxy Z Flip6 firsthand, even before its official market launch. We are excited to see how our technology opens up athletes’ Games-time experience like never before — from creating meaningful connections, to sharing and capturing lifelong memories while in Paris and beyond.”

Enhancing the Athletes’ Experience at Paris 2024 with Devices Powered by Galaxy AI

Samsung’s decision to provide its latest addition to the Galaxy portfolio to Paris 2024 athletes before its official market launch stems from the crucial role Galaxy AI technology plays in accelerating a new era of communication, productivity, and creativity on a smartphone. The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition includes a range of useful innovations to help athletes open up new experiences throughout the Games, including the following Galaxy AI communication features that will help athletes from around the world connect with ease while in Paris:

Live translation of calls1 – translates phone calls directly on the device in real-time into 16 different languages, making it easy for athletes to call the Olympic hotlines and local contacts in their native language, using Samsung native and select third-party apps.

Interpreter2 – instantly translates live conversations, allowing athletes to chat with other athletes and volunteers and receive a live translation of what they’re saying on screen – while still speaking face-to-face, thanks to the phone’s unique dual screen.

Composer3 – helps to draft emails and social media posts in apps by using simple keywords. For social media app specifically, it even analyzes the tone of past content, making it easier for athletes to express their excitement at some of the competition’s most thrilling or poignant moments.

Athletes can also use Galaxy AI on the Olympic Edition phone to help prepare for competition, enhance their creativity, and capture lifelong memories at Paris 2024, with features including:

Instant Slow-mo4 – allows athletes to record, share and analyze their performances in slow motion, making it easier for them to refine their technique.

Photo Assist5 – enables athletes to get the perfect shot every time, by resizing, repositioning or even removing unwanted objects within photos.

Built-in Services and Apps Making the Olympic and Paralympic Experience Fun and Easy

To make it easier for athletes to use the phone while in Paris and beyond, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will come with an eSIM of 100GB 5G data in partnership with Orange, and two years of Samsung’s international warranty. Additionally, to keep track of the latest Games-time schedules and travel around the Olympic venues with ease, several official International Olympic Committee (IOC) apps such as Athlete 365,6 Olympic Shop, Paris 2024, Transport Accred App, and IOC hotline will be pre-loaded.

Via Samsung Wallet,7 it also will come pre-loaded with an in-app pass for free beverages in vending machines located throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Village in partnership with fellow Worldwide Partner, The Coca-Cola Company, and an unlimited complimentary public transport access card, in partnership with Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), so they can enjoy touring the city of Paris and its region.

To bring some fun and personalization to the athlete experience, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will feature a suite of interactive, Paris 2024-themed apps, as well. These include PinQuest and Galaxy Experience for collecting and exchanging real and digital pins during Games-time, Olympic Go!, the official Olympic Game, and Galaxy Skateboard, a new game featuring the Phryges, the Paris 2024 mascots.

Sharing Moments of Victory from the Podium Firsthand

Standing atop the Olympic and Paralympic podium during the medal ceremony and realizing a lifelong dream is one of the most emotional and memorable moments an athlete can experience. Traditionally photographed by accredited media only because athletes have been prohibited from bringing personal belongings — including their mobile phones — to the ceremony, the view has always been captured from a distance and not through an athlete’s own lens.

For the first time in Olympic and Paralympic Games history, Samsung will provide the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition for use on the podium at Paris 2024, so athletes can create their own memories and emotions via a new, victory selfie. Samsung’s customized technology will map and sort the athletes’ selfies by sport and upload them to Athlete365 in real-time, which will allow athletes to save and share their iconic moments with family and fans.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will be displayed at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung showcases, including the one at Champs-Elysees 125, starting July 12. In collaboration with the IOC and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), athletes will receive their Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition from Samsung starting July 18.

Samsung Electronics, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, today unveiled a new art campaign created by legendary French photographer Raymond Depardon and his son, director and photographer Simon Depardon. The campaign, which is called “Olympic Games Instants Shared #withGalaxy,” is now live across the city of Paris and contains captivating imagery that offers a new perspective to the power of sport. It is one of many ways Samsung is helping to bring the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to life in the host city as the countdown to Paris 2024 continues.

As a photographer and filmmaker, Raymond Depardon has captured some of the most iconic images of the century, including portraits of the athletes in Olympic competition between 1964 and 1980. The new campaign, which was developed in collaboration between Samsung and the City of Paris, pays homage to Raymond’s renowned work and represents a passing of the torch — as Raymond’s iconic black-and-white, archival imagery is exhibited alongside new imagery from his son Simon, who focused his lens on some of the newest Olympic Games and Paralympic Games disciplines.

The series of images features Team Samsung Galaxy athletes; Sarah Bee (Breaking), Aurelien Giraud (Skateboarding), Mejdi Schalck (Sport Climbing) and Yvan Wouandji (Blind Football) and is currently being showcased at nine iconic Parisian landmarks and city sites including Rue du Louvre, Pont de la Concorde and Rue des Pyramides, until early September 2024.

▲ Pyramides: 187 Rue St-Honoré, 75001 Paris

“I was thrilled to participate in this project because it is the first time ever that my photos are being displayed alongside my father’s,” said Simon Depardon. “The artwork not only features four incredible French athletes playing their sports, but also I wanted to show each athlete’s human character by taking portraits of them at the same time,” Depardon added. “The performance capabilities of the Galaxy S24 are outstanding, and opened up so many opportunities for us to create something that fits in artistically with the city.”

From June 24 through September 8, 2024, fans are invited to participate in the campaign by sharing messages of support for Team Samsung Galaxy via a QR code featured on each image. The messages will be shown at Samsung’s Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 and Village Plaza, Samsung’s athlete lounge within the Olympic and Paralympic Village, during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The mission of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is to bring the world together in a spirit of openness,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through our collaborative campaign with Raymond and Simon Depardon, Samsung is utilizing innovative Galaxy technology to write another chapter in the near 40-year story of supporting the best ideals that the Olympic and Paralympic Games have to offer.”

Additional locations for the campaign’s 10 images – comprising two of Raymond Depardon’s legendary photos and eight new images from Simon Depardon – are located at Gare de L’Est, Quartier Saint-Germain, Porte d’Orléans, Stade de France, Rue Vieille du Temple, and Opéra.
