Kuala Lumpur, 3 November 2017 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics today introduced a new Star Wars limited edition of the widely acclaimed POWERbot robot vacuum cleaner, the VR7000. The result of a collaboration between Samsung and Star Wars fans, the innovative and powerful vacuum with iconic Darth Vader design is intended to captivate fans in anticipation of the December release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” the final film in the Disney and Lucas Films saga.

The Darth Vader version of the POWERbot features a specially created cover using custom premium materials that resembles Darth Vader’s all-black mask. The Darth Vader model comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and its own remote control. The model also offers fun and unique sound effects of the Star Wars character. For example, when powering on the Darth Vader unit, the vacuum will play and mimic the character’s infamous breathing.

To create this special edition that is authentic and true in the eyes of Star Wars fans, Samsung worked very closely with super fans at every step, from product planning to design, production, marketing, and distribution. It was a first-of-its-kind approach to building and launching a product designed by the fans and built for the fans.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the latest in its innovative and popular line of POWERbot vacuum cleaners, the VR7000 at the 2017 Samsung Southeast Asia and Oceania Forum in Singapore. Featuring a more powerful suction and a slim design, the new POWERbot VR7000 that stands at a height of 97mm, is 28% slimmer than previous Samsung robot vacuums¹.

Slim New Design, Powerful Cleaning

With the new design, the POWERbot VR7000 ensures thorough cleaning by generating up to 20 watts of suction power while covering areas that hand-operated vacuum cleaners miss, such as under beds or other furniture.

The POWERbot VR7000’s Edge Clean Master feature enables the unit to come within 15mm of the wall. This is achieved by placing the unit’s wide 288mm brush – the widest among leading brands – close to the front, enabling the unit to easily gather dust and hair when it reaches the wall. Additionally, the Auto Shutter feature further meets that demand by automatically dropping down a barrier to help the unit sweep up more dust collected closer to the edges.

The POWERbot VR7000’s unique Self-Cleaning Brush System significantly reduces the amount of dust and hair that gets trapped in the bristles. It collects debris in the centre of the brush, facilitating easier transfer into the dustbin and thereby cutting down on regular maintenance.

Smarter Than Ever

The POWERbot VR7000 is equipped with several intelligent features that power the unit’s automated performance. With Visionary Mapping Plus and FullView Sensor 2.0, the POWERbot VR7000 maps and remembers contours of the room to provide thorough cleaning, allowing it to subsequently guide itself to dirty areas on any surface. It can also detect and work around obstacles or items that are as small as 10mm in size.

The Intelligent Power Control feature automatically adjusts the level of suction power, optimizing cleaning functions according to surface type. For instance, when it moves from a hardwood floor onto a carpet or rug, the motor generates more suction power to clean dirt and dust hidden deep inside the pile of carpet. Like so many of Samsung’s home appliances, the POWERbot VR7000 is IoT-enabled, and fully controllable remotely by a Samsung Smart Home app. From a smartphone or other mobile device, users can start or stop the machine, schedule cleaning times, and check the cleaning history.

The 2017 Samsung Southeast Asia and Oceania Forum follows a hugely successful Consumer Electronics Show (CES) for Samsung in January, at which the POWERbot VR7000 was awarded the 2017 CES Innovation Award for its sleek new design and ability to cover even the most hard-to-reach places.
