With the many streaming services, gaming platforms, and digital content available at our fingertips, the living room has evolved from just another space in the house, to a central hub where families gather, entertain, and connect.

The television sits at the heart of this change, with consumers across Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) looking for an all-in-one screen that can truly do justice to the wealth of content available. Their expectations include remarkable picture quality, durability, and innovative features that bring stories to life with amazing clarity.

Our Samsung SEAO TV Awareness IFC Study revealed that picture quality and display technology remain the most important factor for consumers in this region when purchasing a TV, as awareness of TV technologies like QLED, OLED, Neo QLED and 8K has been steadily increasing. Interestingly, consumers’ awareness of QLED technology is now on par with OLED, and QLED and OLED TVs are also the ones that consumers are most likely to consider as compared with other display technologies.

An authentic QLED display revolution

In a market flooded with technical jargon and similar-sounding features, authenticity has become a critical but often overlooked factor. Not all display technologies are made equal, and the consumer viewing experience can be greatly impacted by the distinction between marketing jargon, and technological innovation.

This is particularly true for QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode) technology. True quantum dot displays such as Samsung’s latest QLED TVs which received ‘Real Quantum Dot Display’ certification TÜV Rheinland[1] meet global standards for quantum dot display structure, using quantum dots which are incredibly fine semiconductor particles to deliver better color accuracy, brightness, and viewing angles.

When properly implemented in displays, these remarkable particles produce a color gamut that closely matches colors perceived by the human eye, delivering uniform luminance and consistent color from any viewing angle while minimizing blue light exposure.

The quantum dot (QD) sheet used in its QD TVs has been verified to contain no cadmium by the global certification institute, Société Générale, a world-leading testing and certification body.
Read here for more information.

At Samsung, for a display to truly qualify as an authentic QLED technology, it must meet specific requirements:

First, it requires a genuine quantum dot film. Samsung’s QLED TVs contain quantum dot sheet technology that stably controls these delicate particles and allows light made by quantum dots to spread uniformly throughout the screen. This enables our QLED TVs to emit brighter whites, deeper blacks, and an exceptional color range overall.

Second, it needs sufficient quantum dot content. Our QLED TVs contain a large amount of actual quantum dot material, exceeding the minimum threshold required to deliver meaningful performance benefits.

Third, it must be cadmium-free, enabling a safe viewing environment without harmful substances for consumers. Recognizing the environmental and health risks of cadmium, Samsung pioneered and succeeded in developing the world’s first commercially available cadmium-free quantum dot material in 2014[2]. Today, every Samsung QLED TV is certified cadmium-free by the Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) and complies with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, underscoring our ongoing commitment to environmental safety.

Going from feature laundry list to meaningful innovation

Picture quality is frequently a focus of discussions around display technology, and our research reveals that priorities are becoming more pronounced with SEAO consumers increasingly valuing innovations that provide the best quality and value, as well as how long their investments last.

This change in consumer thinking mirrors our own innovation philosophy at Samsung; rather than pursuing a feature list that looks impressive on paper, we’ve deliberately focused on meaningful innovations that address genuine consumer needs. We’ve also observed OLED and QLED buyers becoming more interested in durability as a key differentiator. This makes perfect sense, as they are investing in experiences they expect to enjoy for years.

Similarly, when we introduced Samsung Knox security architecture for our televisions, some questioned whether consumers would care about security features in their displays. We recognized early that as homes become increasingly connected, robust protection would become essential, and not just another box to check. Today, multi-layered protection now safeguards everything from one’s personal viewing data, to communication between the various smart devices in your home.

Our upcoming Vision AI technology represents this same commitment to meaningful innovation. Rather than developing AI features because the technology is available, we’ve designed Vision AI to transform televisions from passive viewing devices into interactive, intelligent partners that genuinely enhance the viewing experience. On-device AI optimizes picture and sound quality in real-time, while practical features like “AI Customization Mode”, which automatically detects the content genre and adjusts settings to suit user preferences, add utility that our consumers value. This is reflected in our 2024 survey highlighting smart features and functions as a key consideration for what consumers value the most when choosing a TV. Furthermore, by integrating with SmartThings, we are ensuring our TVs serve as true smart home hubs—not just screens with disconnected smart features. This integration transforms the humble TV from an isolated device into the centre of a cohesive ecosystem.

Vision AI isn’t about adding another bullet point to our marketing materials, but about technology that does more for the customer in ways that genuinely matter, rather than overwhelming them with features they’ll never use.

Our commitment to deliver an authentic viewing experience

As I look ahead to the next decade of display innovation, I’m convinced that quality and authenticity will matter more than ever, not just in terms of technical specifications, but also in delivering on the promises we make to consumers. We appreciate that Samsung is top of mind when they think of QLED technology, but we remain focused on delivering an authentic viewing experience that respects both consumer expectations and safety.

Ultimately, what happens behind the screen matters just as much as what you see on it. Though I am proud of our team’s efforts that have led us to maintain leadership in the global TV market, we continue to measure our success on whether the technology in your home delivers the experience you expect, safely and consistently, year after year.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that its latest lineup of QLED TVs has received ‘Real Quantum Dot Display’ certification from TÜV Rheinland, an international certification organization based in Germany. The certification verifies that Samsung’s QLED TVs meet global standards for quantum dot display structure, reinforcing the company’s technological leadership in the premium TV market.

The certification confirms that Samsung QLED TVs comply with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62595-1-6 standard, which defines the application of quantum dot (QD) light converting unit combined with blue light sources for standard QLED displays.

As part of the certification process, TÜV Rheinland analyzed the light spectrum produced by Samsung QLED TVs and confirmed that it displayed clear separation between red, green, and blue—an important marker of color accuracy. This distinction is enabled by quantum dots and may not be as pronounced in displays using alternative materials, which can sometimes cause color mixing or reduced clarity. The results demonstrate how Samsung’s use of quantum dots contributes to delivering vivid and precise color expression.

With the latest certification, Samsung’s QLED TVs are officially validated as true quantum dot displays, further differentiating Samsung’s offerings and strengthening consumer trust in premium television technologies.

“This certification objectively validates that Samsung QLED TVs deliver true quantum dot performance built to international standards,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to drive innovation and strengthen consumer trust as we lead the premium TV market.”

The series that have received certification include the Neo QLED 8K (QN990F, QN950F), Neo QLED 4K (QN90F, QN85F, QN80F, QN70F), and QLED 4K (Q8F, Q7F, Q6F) series.

Quantum dots are ultra-fine nanomaterials, tens of thousands of times smaller than a human hair, renowned for their ability to reproduce precise and vivid colors depending on light wavelength. The method by which quantum dots are integrated into display panels has become a key indicator for evaluating technological advancement in the premium TV segment.

Separately, Samsung’s quantum dot technology has also been recognized by global testing organization Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) for its excellence in cadmium-free design—an environmentally conscious approach that eliminates the use of cadmium, a toxic heavy metal known to pose risks to human health and the environment.

Quantum dots have attracted attention as next-generation material for a wide range of applications including displays, medical devices and solar cells. In

Quantum dots have attracted attention as next-generation material for a wide range of applications including displays, medical devices and solar cells. In 2014, Samsung Electronics developed the no-cadmium quantum dot material and successfully commercialized quantum dot technology with its SUHD TVs. Since 2017, the company has continued to build on its legacy of quantum dot mastery through QLED — its own quantum dot TV series. Samsung Newsroom explored how quantum dots are taking Samsung displays to the next level.

Quantum Dots: The Next Generation of Display Innovation

Quantum dots are ultra-fine semiconductor particles that are tens of thousands of times thinner than a human hair. Since inception, their physical characteristics that allow them to provide the highest level of color accuracy and brightness among existing materials had them positioned to revolutionize display technology.

When used in displays, quantum dots support a wide color gamut that closely matches colors perceived by the human eye and facilitate pixel-level light adjustment for more accurate black levels. Emitting light in all directions, quantum dots deliver uniform luminance and consistent color from any viewing angle while minimizing blue light exposure for a more comfortable viewing experience.

▲ SUHD TVs at CES 2015

What Sets Quantum Dot TVs Apart: Content, Film Quality and N-Cadmium Technology

The TV industry continues research and development into the commercialization of quantum dots as the material becomes a game-changer in display technology. For that reason, a variety of quantum dot TVs have hit the market recently — offering a wide range of options to customers.

However, key differences in quantum dot TVs lie in how the technology is implemented and the overall quality of the display. To ensure a premium viewing experience, factors such as the amount of quantum dot content, the quality of quantum dot film and the use of no-cadmium materials must be considered.

▲ Factors to consider when selecting a high-quality quantum dot TV

Quantum Dot Content

The true quality of a quantum dot TV is defined by its quantum dot content. The quantum dot film requires a minimum of 3,000 parts per million (ppm) of the material to achieve the vivid, rich picture quality and color expression that only quantum dots can deliver.

Quantum Dot Film

Samsung QLEDs eliminate the need for a phosphor layer, enhancing light and energy efficiency while delivering more vivid colors. A quantum dot OLED (QD-OLED), which consists of a thin-film transistor (TFT) layer,[1] a self-emitting light source and a quantum dot film that uses the light emitted from the light source, takes a step further enhancing picture quality. In either case, a dedicated quantum dot film that contains sufficient quantum dots is key in delivering top-class picture quality and longevity.

No Cadmium

In the early stages of developing quantum dot TVs, cadmium was essential to achieving the key benefits of quantum dots such as color reproduction and contrast ratio. At the time, cadmium was considered the most efficient material for producing quantum dots.

However, cadmium’s toxicity became a significant obstacle to the commercialization of quantum dot technology. The element posed serious threats to the environment — making its widespread use difficult despite being the most suitable material for implementing quantum dot technology.

In response to this challenge, Samsung developed the no-cadmium quantum dot material in 2014 and successfully commercialized quantum dot technology with its SUHD TVs in the following year to open a new era of quantum dot TVs.

10 Years of Quantum Dot Innovation and Leadership

Samsung has quickly recognized the potential of quantum dot technology and led innovation in the global display market over the past decade through continuous research and investment.

▲ A timeline of Samsung’s quantum dot technology development from 2001 to 2022

Samsung began researching and developing quantum dot technology in 2001 — at a time when there was limited research on non-cadmium materials. Achieving vivid colors required making the nano-sized particles uniform, but the lack of technology and research made mass production extremely challenging.

Despite these obstacles, Samsung succeeded in creating a no-cadmium nanocrystal material in 2014. Since then, the company has accumulated extensive expertise — registering more than 150 patents — and continuously worked on advancing the technology. Samsung’s long-standing commitment culminated in 2015 when the company unveiled their first SUHD TVs with no-cadmium quantum dot technology.

▲ QLED TVs (75Q8C and 88Q8F) at Samsung’s First Look 2017 event during CES 2017

Samsung’s QLED lineup was revealed in 2017, setting a new standard for premium TVs that overcame the limitations of OLED TVs. By applying metal quantum dot technology, Samsung achieved the Digital Cinema Initiative’s color standard DCI-P3 and achieved 100% color volume for the first time in the world — thereby presenting unparalleled color expression. Notably, the use of inorganic quantum dot technology protected the screens from burn-in[2] to ensure consistent picture quality over time.

“Discovering a blue material for self-emitting QLEDs and demonstrating industry-leading performance at the device level were significant achievements of this research,” said Dr. Eunjoo Chang, a fellow at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology. “Samsung’s distinctive quantum dot technology has once again overcome technical barriers.”

These cutting-edge advancements led to the launch of the QD-OLED TVs, making history at CES 2022 by winning the Best of Innovation award for integrating quantum dot technology and OLED displays.

Samsung remains dedicated to advancing quantum dot technology through continuous innovation. The company continues to invest in leading display technology — from QLED to Neo OLED — by offering high brightness, color accuracy and frequency. Driven by Samsung’s unrivaled quantum dot innovations, the future of display technology is brighter than ever.

When it comes to the state of the current TV market, it’s clear that consumers are after larger screens, a trend driven by rising income levels and changing consumer expectations. Recent years have seen the standard for what constitutes a large screen TV change. Whereas previously, large screen TVs were classified as measuring 55-inch TVs. Now, that classification has crept up to 65-inch TVs or 75- inch TVs in size, with the super large category also now a category in its own right.

Rapid Growth of Large-sized TV Market

While growth in the overall global TV market has plateaued, sales of larger screen TVs 65-inch and over has grown by more than 30 percent in recent years. According to research firm IHS Markit, the market volume of 65-inch and over TVs was 8 million in 2016 and increased to 11.4 million in 2017. This year, market volume is expected to reach 16 million units.

The market for extra-large, or above 75-inch, TVs is expected to experience even more pronounced growth of 47% this year, a key reason why Samsung has made this segment a core focus area. In the first quarter of this year, the company’s global sales of 65-inch and larger TVs increased over 35% year over year. In the same period, sales of Samsung TVs in the South American market spiked nearly four times, and the demand for large-sized Samsung TVs almost doubled in Korea.

Almost Half of 75-inch TVs Sold Worldwide Made by Samsung

In 2017, Samsung Electronics maintained its top ranking in the worldwide TV market for the 12th consecutive year, with more than 20% market share last year.

Samsung’s presence is even more noticeable in the fast-growing, large-sized TV market. The company is leading the worldwide market of 65-inch and over TVs, with 31.1% share of total number of units sold and 34.1% share for total sales last year, according to IHS Markit.

The share is even higher for 75-inch and larger TVs, reaching up to 47.4% share based on number of units sold. This means that one out of every two extra-large TVs sold worldwide is a Samsung TV. The popularity of Samsung TVs is particularly noteworthy in Europe and Latin America, where the company holds almost 60% of market share.

For the overall 75-inch and larger TV market, there was almost three times sales growth in the first half of this year, as compared to the same period last year. To meet and hone in on the growing customer demand in this segment, Samsung has strengthened its 75-inch and larger TV lineup in the four series lines (Q6F, Q7F, Q8C, Q9F) of the 2018 QLED TV portfolio.

QLED Leads Larger TV Market with Aims to Double its Growth

Samsung’s 2018 QLED TV lineup has received strong reception since its global launch in March this year, for example experiencing a sevenfold increase in number of units sold in the first four weeks following launch in the United States compared to last year. In China and South Korea, sales volume doubled in the first quarter of 2018, compared to the fourth quarter of last year.

Samsung will continue its growth in both sales and innovation involving QLED TV. Samsung’s 2018 QLED TV lineup has incorporated various additional functions to optimize high-resolution content for a very large screen, delivering a mesmerizing, immersive experience. Among other standout features, Samsung’s QLED TV is the world’s only TV delivering 100% color volume, and has been upgraded with technologies such as ‘Anti-reflection’ so users can enjoy pure blacks without reflection. ‘HDR 2000’ enhances the level of brightness and expressed detail, and 4K Q Engine, automatically upscales content to 4K resolution, optimizing the content for the big screen.

Samsung QLED TV has also been designed with convenience in mind and reflecting consumer needs with features such as artificial intelligence based on Bixby and SmartThings App, the One Invisible Connection that combines complex connection lines into a single cable, and Ambient mode which enables the TV to depict images and information, even when the TV is off.

“With the very full major sporting events line up this year, including 2018 World Cup Russia and the Asian Games, we expect the demand for large-sized TVs to grow rapidly,” said Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “This year, for QLED TVs, we aim to double growth, as well as continue our leadership in the global TV market by driving the ultra-large TV market.”

Samsung Electronics has been the world’s number one TV manufacturer for 12 consecutive years now. During that time, Samsung TVs have continuously raised the bar when it comes to design, color accuracy and image quality, offering consumers increasingly more immersive and enjoyable viewing experiences.

In 2006, the beginning of Samsung’s market-leading run, the company laid the foundation for a new era of TV design with the unveiling of the Bordeaux, an LCD display with an elegant, wine glass-inspired form. Since then, Samsung TVs have become synonymous for pairing refined designs, like the Bordeaux’s, with first-of-their-kind innovations that take the viewing experience to new heights.

For example, in 2009, Samsung launched the world’s first edge-lit LED TV, which, in addition to being incredibly thin, introduced consumers to a new level of picture quality. That groundbreaking development was followed up, in 2010, by the world’s first 3D LED TV, which opened the door to a world of immersive 3D entertainment. That same year, Samsung unveiled the world’s first smart TV app store, and in 2011, the company launched Smart Hub, its intuitive smart TV user interface.

Other pioneering developments that demonstrate Samsung’s position ahead of the curve include the launches of the world’s first OLED TV, in 2013, and the first curved and bendable UHD TVs, in 2014.

Samsung’s new QLED TVs represent the pinnacle of this innovative history. The TVs’ combination of premium aesthetics and lifelike visuals has prompted many consumers to rethink how they assess a TV’s immersive qualities.

Featuring new Bixby integration and powered by quantum dot technology, QLED TVs offer a viewing experience defined by seamless controls and immersive visuals. The TVs’ ability to provide 100 percent color volume enables them to produce much brighter and deeper colors, allowing content to be displayed in the manner that producers intended.

QLED TV’s engrossing visuals are complemented by a minimalist design that eliminates distractions to enable users to be utterly immersed in their content. This aspect of the design is bolstered by both the One Invisible Connection, which seamlessly combines the AV and power cords, as well as those of peripheral devices, into a single, transparent cable, and the new Ambient Mode, which allows the TVs to display ambient images that enable them to seamlessly blend in with their surroundings.

Going forward, Samsung will continue to innovate with exciting TV technologies that will foster even more enriching and immersive viewing experiences. These include quantum dots, as well as the self-emitting MicroLED modules that the company debuted at CES 2018. Look forward to more updates on that milestone development in the latter half of this year.

Kuala Lumpur, 14 December 2017 – Gamers rejoice! Samsung Malaysia Electronics is proud to introduce the future of gaming with the unveiling of its new CHG90 ultra-wide gaming monitor, which features the powerful High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture enhancement technology typically reserved for televisions. When combined with the CHG90’s ultra-wide, curved design and new QLED “Quantum Dot” composition, this HDR integration produces a realistic, detailed picture that showcases games exactly as developers intended, and dramatically improves gameplay with crisper colours and sharper contrast.

“Malaysians have a deep passion for gaming and as such, they want to feel completely immersed in their favourite games. Samsung wants to help deliver the ultimate gaming experience, and now with our new gaming monitor providing the most stunning visual and realistic content; we are able to turn that feeling into a reality. The CHG90 ultra-wide gaming monitor is a gateway to the future of gaming for casual, enthusiastic and competitive gamers alike, and we look forward to build upon these game-changing technologies to further meet the needs of gamers, developers and partners in the coming years,” said Jimmy Tan, Head of Consumers Electronics, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The CHG90’s panoramic view makes it easy to lock in on the action when playing first-person shooter (FPS)

A More Vivid and Detailed Gaming Environment

The QLED quantum dot technology delivers a new metal core and supports both approximately 125 percent of sRGB colour spectrum and 95 percent of the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI-P3) motion picture standard to deliver an exceptionally wide colour range. This creates vivid looking characters and provides a realistic life-view on the games natural surroundings, adding a sense of thrill to gaming.

Samsung’s CHG90 sets the new visual standard for gaming displays by projecting a 32:9 aspect ratio and 3,840 x 1,080 double full HD (DFHD) resolutions across a 49-inch screen. The CHG90 extends the playing field for gamers, with its broad design surpassing industry standards while simultaneously representing the widest monitor in the company’s gaming portfolio. Now gamers can spot their enemies with ease and seize the opportunity by striking first!

The monitor delivers stunning 1,800R curvature and an ultra-wide 178-degree viewing angle, maintaining content visibility from any location within a given space. As a result, gamers no longer have to worry about the logistics, expenses and central bezel interference that occur when combining multiple smaller monitors together for an expanded view.

Ideal for first-person shooting, racing, flight simulation and action-heavy games, the CHG90 aligns an accelerated refresh rate (144Hz) and 1ms motion picture response time (MPRT) with advanced, four-channel scanning technology to deter motion blur and produce a more consistent picture across the entire screen, bringing out the best in gaming content. This allows for better responsiveness to games, making it run faster and smoother, adding the element of excitement for gamers.

Designed for Next Level Work and Play

Samsung Malaysia Electronics enters the Malaysian competitive gaming scene with the launch of its industry-leading curved CFG70 Gaming Monitor, Samsung’s first curved gaming monitor utilizing Samsung’s Quantum Dot technology, improving the delivery of a highly impactful and immersive visual experience accompanied by one of the fastest moving picture response time (MPRT) technology within the industry.

As the company’s first curved gaming monitor to feature quantum dot technology, the CFG70 monitor (24- and 27-inch models) expresses brilliant and accurate colors across a 125 percent sRGB spectrum. This added luminance produces a 3,000:1 contrast ratio and amplifies previously-hidden gaming details in both light and dark settings. The monitor also employs an environmentally-safe, cadmium-free design.

“Our Quantum Dot display gaming monitor creates an unprecedented visual experience that no gamer has ever experienced. Optimized on breaking boundaries and bringing lifelike picture quality, the CFG70 is an incredible leverage for gamers to have especially when competing in the growing popularity of e-sports,” said Lee Sang Hoon, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

Comfortable and Immersive Viewing with the Curved Design

The CFG70’s “Super Arena” design, featuring industry-best 1,800R curvature and a 178-degree ultra-wide viewing angle, is formatted to match the natural curve of the human eye. Complementary sound-interactive LED lighting further creates a lifelike presentation and keeps users focused during the most paramount moments.

Additionally, the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) recently named the CFG70 as a recipient of its annual Good Design Awards, which honor technologies that “improve the quality of life, industry and society.” The JDP acknowledged the efficiency and performance of the CFG70’s advanced gaming interface and convenience-driving composition.

Fast Speed and Smooth Game Play

By combining Samsung’s advanced motion blur reduction technology with its VA panel, the CFG70 is the first curved monitor to produce a 1 ms moving picture response time (MPRT). The rapid MPRT rate reduces display transitions between moving and animated objects, and in turn eliminates potential visual distractions.

The CFG70 also leverages integrated AMD FreeSync Technology over HDMI functionality to synchronize the screen’s 144Hz refresh rate with users’ AMD graphics cards. This connectivity minimizes image tearing, input latency and stutter that can disrupt gameplay and escalate visual fatigue.

Optimized Gaming Experience

Samsung has equipped the CFG70 with a range of user-friendly gaming UX that drives more convenient and easily-accessible game management. The CFG70 includes a dedicated gaming interface with an intuitive settings dashboard to better allow gamers to modify and personalize their gameplay settings. Each CFG70 monitor also offers a series of hotkeys on the front and back of the display for users to easily adjust gameplay settings.

To further inspire gamer immersion and bring out the best in even the most complex game designs, including compatibility with the FPS, RTS, RPG and AOS genres, each CFG70 monitor undergoes rigorous pre-shipment factory calibration. This process optimizes various settings, including contrast ratios, black gamma levels for enhanced brightness and white balance levels for temperature management. As a result, gamers can enjoy a sharp and brilliant picture regardless of the game in play.

Samsung Electronics today announced its new QLED TV series – Q9, Q8, and Q7 – during the company’s 2017 product unveiling, held at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center in Las Vegas.

“2017 will mark a major paradigm shift in the visual display industry, ushering in the era of QLED,” said HyunSuk Kim, President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With the advent of QLED TV, we provide the most true-to-life picture on screen. We have been successful in solving for past inconsistencies in the viewing experience and consumer pain points while redefining the fundamental value of TV.”

Samsung’s Best Picture Quality – Ever

With picture quality remaining a top priority for consumers around the world – especially as the average TV continues to increase in size, Samsung’s 2017 QLED TVs represent yet another leap forward.

The new lineup offers dramatically improved color performance, displaying DCI-P3 color space accurately and – in another world first for Samsung, QLED TVs are capable of reproducing 100 percent color volume. This means they can express all colors at any level of brightness – with even the subtlest differences visible at the QLED’s peak luminance – between 1,500 and 2,000 nits.

Color volume presents color that can be expressed at different levels of brightness. For example, a leaf can be perceived as different colors from yellowish green to turquoise, depending on brightness of the light. Samsung QLED TV display can capture even subtle differences in color pertaining to brightness. This kind of color detail cannot be easily depicted in the traditional 2D color space models.

This breakthrough is a result of Samsung’s adoption of a new metal Quantum Dot material – making it possible for the TV to express a significantly improved range of color with much greater detail compared to conventional TVs.

The new Quantum dots allow Samsung QLED TV to express deep blacks and rich detail regardless of how light or dark the scene is, or whether the content is being played in a brightly lit or darkened room. Furthermore, Samsung QLED TV can generate peak luminance as high as 1,500 to 2,000 nits, with no impact on its ability to deliver accurate and impeccable color. With its metal alloy Quantum Dot technology, brightness no longer has to be compromised to boost color performance, which is also maintained regardless of how wide the viewing angle may be.

Committed to Solving Consumer Pain Points

Samsung also used today’s product unveiling to highlight new design features which resolve some of the most significant TV viewer pain points.

“With the QLED TV, we’ve solved problems that everyone —and every home—has experienced; cable clutter, thick wall mounts and a slew of devices sitting right under the TV,” said Dave Das, Senior Vice President of Consumer Electronics Marketing for Samsung Electronics America. “With our 2017 lineup, the focus remains where it should be—the content on the screen —not everything surrounding it.”

The improvements to design and usability in the QLED TV series include a single, transparent ‘Invisible Connection’ cable, through which all of the peripheral devices can be gathered and connected to the TV. This is in addition to the ‘No-gap wall-mount’, which makes it quick and easy to affix the TV flush against the wall. Or, for those who prefer not to mount the TV, Samsung is offering two new stands designed to elevate and showcase the QLED TVs as beautiful home accessories all by themselves. Consumers can choose either the ‘Studio Stand’, which resembles an easel with a painting, or the sleek ‘Gravity Stand’, which when attached to the TV, resembles a contemporary sculpture.

Samsung’s Smartest TV ever

In 2017, Samsung is focused on the continued evolution of its much lauded Smart TV offering, giving people the simple, unified user experience they want for all their entertainment content – wherever and whenever they want it. For example, with the Samsung Smart Remote, consumers can control most connected TV devices from a single source, with one device.

This year, the ‘Smart Hub’ interface has been extended to smartphones through Samsung’s new and improved ‘Smart View’ app, which now provides a comprehensive overview of all available content on the app’s home screen. Thus, consumers can use their mobile device to select and start their favorite live TV programs and video-on-demand services – on their TV, through the ‘Smart View’ mobile app. Consumers can also choose to receive alerts on their mobile devices about their favorite content, regarding for example, show times and availability.

Samsung also introduced two new Smart TV services, including ‘Sports’, which shows a customizable summary of a customer’s favorite sports team and its recent and upcoming games, and ‘Music’, which can identify songs as they are being played live on a TV show, among many other features.

More than 200 journalists from around the world participated in Samsung’s product unveiling event to experience Samsung QLED TV’s picture quality and usability first-hand. Consumers attending CES 2017 will be able to view all these exciting innovations, and much more, on the show floor from the 5th of January onwards.

SEOUL, Korea – September 8, 2016 – Samsung Electronics announced that its line-up of 2016 Smart TVs has been certified by world-class German testing and certification authority, TÜV Rheinland, for their usability. TÜV Rheinland also validated Samsung Smart TVs for their remote features. The certification and validation was awarded to Series 7 and higher Samsung Smart TVs, citing the auto-detect feature that identifies external devices connected to the TV, and the Smart Remote that controls multiple devices.

All of Samsung’s 2016 Smart TVs are designed to make the viewing experience more comfortable and intuitive for the consumer. Through the auto-detect feature, which recognizes external devices including OTT, set-top boxes, home theater systems and game consoles, along with the Smart Remote that can control multiple devices with a single remote, the TV viewing experience has never been simpler.

“We are proud that the excellence of the Samsung Smart TV has been recognized by such a prestigious testing authority as TÜV Rheinland,” said Jungkil Lee, Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “At Samsung, we continue to strive to provide the highest-quality and most comfortable viewing experience for our consumers through our Smart TVs.”

At IFA 2016, Samsung highlighted its Smart TV offerings in a dedicated exhibition zone, where visitors experienced first-hand the exceptional usability of Samsung’s Smart TVs. Samsung’s improved Smart Hub, powered by Tizen, gives users instant access to a wider range of content – including TV shows, internet streaming services and games – faster and easier than ever before. Visitors were also able to experience the TV PLUS service, which was scheduled to be released during the fourth quarter in the United States, after having been previously launched in Thailand, Vietnam and Korea.

With a 140-year history, TÜV Rheinland is one of the most respected testing and certification authorities in Europe. The company assesses product safety and quality for a range of different industrial products, including electronic devices, automobiles and medical devices.
