A study[1] by Samsung Electronics and Tech Research Asia surveying more than 1,440 businesses in Southeast Asia and Oceania found that more than half of these businesses feel that device security is a common pain point. 33% of the respondents also find their business devices too obsolete to run applications, while 44% have devices that require extra hardware or accessories to work.

With a large number of business at risk of compromising their data via their corporate liable devices, they struggle to find the balance between a secure and flexible solution and maximizing productivity from digitalization.

“To thrive in this fast-changing world, businesses need a robust and secure technology infrastructure to support flexible work – and a closed ecosystem just isn’t the answer,” said Ian Chong, Regional Director & Head of Mobile Experience B2B, Southeast Asia & Oceania.

“Samsung’s Galaxy for Work equips businesses with an open ecosystem of secure, versatile devices that are optimized for their unique needs, giving them all the freedom and confidence they need to stay competitive in today’s business landscape.”

Samsung Electronics showcased an integrated enterprise solution approach to enabling the next stage of enterprise digital transformation at the Samsung Display Tech Summit 2023.

Enterprise customers and partners from across the SEAO region gathered in Seoul, South Korea, on October 11 and 12, when Samsung shared its technological vision while showcasing its latest display, IT and industrial solutions and services to help enterprises become more agile and competitive in the fast-evolving digital world.

As we develop innovations for enterprises to meet their evolving digital needs, we also prioritize sustainability in our decision-making at every step of the process. This is in line with organizations’ increasing focus on being more environmentally sustainable.”

More than ever, sustainability is at the forefront of conversations and actions by governments, organizations, and consumers alike. Without a doubt,

More than ever, sustainability is at the forefront of conversations and actions by governments, organizations, and consumers alike. Without a doubt, addressing the ongoing climate crisis and establishing a circular economy are among some of the biggest, most pressing challenges of our time.

At Samsung Electronics, we are taking active steps to make a difference to environmental sustainability today and for future generations. With the unique size and complexity of our business, we believe that our size and scale means that our ongoing investments in environmental health have an opportunity to make significant impact.

Hence in September 2022, we announced our new global environmental strategy to tackle climate change holistically as an organization. Watch Samsung’s efforts to overcome climate crisis here: https://youtu.be/NSLR700LMNo

Focusing on outcomes and as a careful reflection of the complexity of our business, our new approach to the environment encompasses everything from commitments to achieving enterprise-wide net zero emissions by 2050, expanding use of renewable energy, and strategic investments in new sustainable technologies, to create a better, healthier planet for all.

This new strategy builds on Samsung Electronics’ existing efforts around climate change, significantly expanding the scope of both programs and investments to come. A helpful summary can be found in the infographic here.

Samsung Electronics has also joined the RE100, a global corporate renewable energy initiative, and plans to run all operations outside of Korea as well as the Device eXperience (DX) Division on renewable energy within five years. Here in Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO), we are on track to achieve the goal for matching electricity use with renewable energy by 2027.

Under the new strategy, we are planning to enhance resource circularity of our electronics products across the entire product lifecycle. The Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4 have already been designed to incorporate plastics recycled from discarded fishing nets, and we plan to expand this to more products. We will also implement low-power technologies in major models of seven consumer electronics products – smartphones, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, TVs, monitors and PCs – to reduce energy consumption.

Additionally, we are planning to expand the scope of our e-waste collection system from around 50 countries today to more than 180 countries by 2030. At the same time, we plan to collect a cumulative 10 million tons of electronic waste between 2009 and 2030, one of the highest targets industry-wide.

Sustainability involves everyone

This is an all-hands-on-deck effort that cuts across the entire business, including right here for us in SEAO.

Eco-conscious practices have been put in place at our Samsung Services Centers across the region, with the integrated global customer service system implemented at most of the Samsung Service Centers in the region as we make strides towards going paper-free. Customer documents relating to product repairs, service records, and receipts are now shared electronically via message or email.

In addition, customers in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam are now receiving the mobile phones they have sent in for services and repairs packed in eco-friendly materials. For example in Australia, customers can expect an eco-friendly packaging made from 96% recyclable materials that can be repurposed into a mobile and table stand.

Reducing E-waste

E-waste ‘Eco Boxes’ are also available in over 180 Samsung Service Centers in SEAO currently, such as major cities like Auckland, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Sydney, allowing customers to conveniently dispose of their old mobile phones and recycle them in a proper way.

To reduce e-waste, customers can also choose to replace only the defective parts of their product instead of replacing assembly modules through Eco Repair.

In New Zealand, we partnered with technology recycling firm Computer Recycling to reuse the gold, silver, and other metal components in discarded devices and appliances such as smartphones, TVs and refrigerators. These include old electronics collected from Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific islands such as Fiji, Samoa, and Tahiti, which are then sent for recycling in Auckland. The initiative has been well received and Samsung New Zealand is currently looking to bolster recycling capacities over the next two years.

In Singapore, we launched the ‘Go Green, Go Galaxy’ campaign in September, offering additional discounts off the purchase of Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series devices and the Galaxy Buds2 Pro for consumers who chose to recycle their old smartwatch and old wireless earbuds at our in-store e-waste bins. Our e-waste operator partner, Alba, collected these old devices for proper treatment and recycling, channeling back the raw materials recovered from these products into production where appropriate.

Continued public education on the importance of sustainability is critical for the future – especially among the youths in our region. We do this through our regular youth outreach efforts, including Solve for Tomorrow, our annual student competition focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) skills.

Many innovative creations surrounding sustainability have emerged from Solve for Tomorrow. For instance, the Team Eco Warriors student team from Hanoi, Vietnam (pictured below) won the High School Category for Solve for Tomorrow last year. Their original mask-recycling machine seeks to mitigate waste created from the widespread use of face masks during the pandemic by melting and remoulding plastic masks into plastic pots.

Taking action to create a better planet for all

At Samsung, we take our environmental responsibilities extremely seriously. While we recognize that one company’s strategy will not be a solve-all solution, Samsung is making this bold bet to ensure it plays an active role in the protection of the planet for our younger and future generations.

In the upcoming year, we can look forward to seeing real, tangible changes to our operations as we roll-out our bold environmental actions and targets across markets in the region. Working with our employees, customers, and industry and government partners, we are optimistic about the changes we are making to enable a better world and to make sustainability a part of our consumers’ everyday lives here in Southeast Asia and Oceania and beyond.

Singapore – March 25, 2019 – Samsung Electronics Co. today showcased its entire 2019 QLED TV line-up equipped with an unrivalled, world-class picture quality, at the 2019 Samsung Southeast Asia and Oceania Forum in Singapore. This next-generation 2019 QLED TV line-up, will be available at Southeast Asian retailers from April this year.

Samsung unveiled its 98” QLED 8K – it’s largest yet – adding to its 2019 lineup that features 65”, 75”, 82”, and 85” models. Samsung’s QLED 8K TVs come equipped with Samsung’s proprietary Quantum Processor, the AI-powered picture processing semiconductor technology, that enable an improved viewing experience. Unveiled by Samsung Electronics as an industry first, its machine-learning Quantum processor employs its AI capabilities to learn and compare millions of images that help it to calibrate lower-resolution sources and optimize them into 8K-quality content regardless of the original format. Thereby solving for the issue of limited native 8K content and earning a prestigious Innovation Award at CES 2019. This is Samsung’s smartest and most powerful TV yet.

Other key products in the 2019 QLED line-up include a suite of 8K and 4K TVs, including the 8K Q950R that ranges from 65-inch to 98-inch in size, as well as the 4K Q90R, Q85R, Q80R, Q70R and Q60R that range from 43-inch to 82-inch in size. In total, the expanded 2019 QLED line-up features more than 20 models and includes more large-screen models.

Increasing the number of large-screen models in its TV line-up is part of a wider strategy at Samsung, arising from shifting consumer demands. According to global business information provider IHS Markit, the market for 75-inch TVs or bigger TVs recorded 2.1 million units in 2018 and is expected to grow by 43% to 3 million units this year and to 5.8 million units by 2022.

The best picture quality with significantly improved viewing angles and black levels

Equipped with upgraded Ultra Viewing Angle technology, Samsung’s 2019 QLED TVs will allow for backlight to pass through the TV’s panels more evenly onto the screen, thanks to improved panel structure and new screen calibration algorithms to enhance the TV’s viewing angles. It delivers consistently stunning picture quality from every viewing angle without glare or reflections in the daytime and in brightly-lit rooms.

Along with several picture quality upgrades in 2019, the adoption of Direct Full Array models1 has nearly doubled from last year. Direct Full Array technology puts backlit LEDs behind the panel for precise brightness control, allowing the light to be adjusted individually to create deeper blacks. Algorithms that recognize and adjust black colors more precisely analyze the characteristics of each scene in real-time for brightness distribution and black ratios to control the backlight and help the 2019 QLED TVs deliver superb black color reproduction.

In addition, all Samsung 2019 QLED TVs will feature HDR10+, a premium picture processing format. The HDR10+ standard makes bright scenes brighter and dark scenes darker by optimising the contrast for each scene, so that users can enjoy a detail-rich picture. The QLED 8K TVs will also support HDMI 2.1 (8K 60P) transmission.

Ambient Mode offers even greater variety of decoration and art

Through Ambient Mode, Samsung’s QLED TVs elevate the home setting by displaying decorative content, useful information, your own photos and can even mimic the texture of the wall behind it2. In addition, an even wider variety of themes are now available, which allows users to further customise Ambient Mode to complement the décor of their homes. Customers can also sync their ambient screens with music when they are not watching TV.

Samsung QLED TVs also come with an automatic light control sensor, allowing it to adapt its brightness levels to give users the optimal viewing experience, whether you’re watching TV late at night or in the bright morning sunshine.

1 The Samsung QLED 8K Q950R and QLED 4K Q90/85/80/70 feature Direct Full Array technology.

2 Some features of Ambient Mode require a compatible Android or iOS phone and sufficient space around the TV to operate; it will have varying results on complex wall designs, patterns, and/or unusual colours.

Singapore – March 25, 2019 – Since its launch, Samsung’s QuickDrive has been noted for its innovative approach to laundry technology. At the Samsung SEAO Forum 2019, Samsung showcased the next generation laundry innovation featuring revolutionary QuickDrive technology.

Equipped with faster wash time and enhanced smart capabilities, the WW7800M washing machine with Samsung’s exclusive QuickDrive technology and intelligent Q-rator laundry assistant takes the guesswork out of doing laundry, providing consumers the power to dramatically reduce the time it takes to do a load of laundry in half1. On its Super Speed setting, a daily load of laundry completes in just 39 minutes, offering consumers the time-saving solution they always wanted but never had, without compromising washing performance1, energy efficiency, fabric care and durability.

Improved Washing Performance with Samsung’s Unique Technology

Samsung’s QuickDrive technology cuts washing time by 50%1 and energy use by 20%1 without compromising the cleaning performance. Its unique Q-DrumTM consists of a large main drum and a plate in the back that rotates independently. Unlike conventional washers that move clothes repeatedly up and down over the course of the cycle, the WW7800M moves clothes from top to bottom in the drum, and the plate in the back of the drum introduces a back and forth movement. It creates a revolutionary dynamic action powered by double forces that quickly, gently and thoroughly remove dirt to deliver an intense and complete wash cycle.

The performance of QuickDrive is guaranteed with over 150 durability and functionality tests. This attention to detail can be observed in Samsung’s quality assurance campaign, “From Lab to Life,” which demonstrates how the tests in the laboratory aid product longevity and efficiency in the home. The array of tests includes a “heat test,” which evaluates the components’ abilities to withstand extreme temperatures and a “slam test,” which repeatedly slams the door 20,000 times to ensure it can withstand frequent usage.

Samsung products are more than just durable – they are designed to operate seamlessly in the home on a day-to-day basis. The tests that Samsung performs on its washing machines are intended to guarantee optimum performance and exceptional quality assurance in the home.

In addition, Samsung’s unrivalled QuickDrive technology was independently tested by Intertek, the world’s largest testing and inspection organisation. Intertek confirmed that QuickDrive technology provides the same level of cleaning performance and fabric care as existing products, while reducing washing times.

The new WW7800M also has many of Samsung’s outstanding laundry technologies, such as EcoBubbleTM, which provides powerful washing performance by mixing air and water to generate fine detergent bubbles that penetrate fabrics faster and maximise the detergent’s effects even at low temperatures.

Smarter, IoT-enabled Washing Machine for User Convenience

Throughout the washing cycle, QuickDriveTM offers a range of smart and convenient features. The IoT-ready WW7800M boasts an AI-powered laundry assistant called Q-rator, which provides three key smart features that help manage laundry more conveniently.

Laundry Planner enables consumers to manage a laundry finishing time, freeing consumers to control their schedule on their own terms.

Laundry Recipe gives automatic recommendations for optimal wash cycles based on the information such as colour, fabric type, and degree of soiling provided by the user, eliminating the need for guessing about which cycle is best.

HomeCare Wizard monitors the washer by remote, proactively alerting users about potential problems and providing quick troubleshooting support.

The WW7800M also comes with Samsung’s innovative AddWashTM, a feature that gives users the ability to add items at any time during the cycle2. From a forgotten sock to a delicate item3 that needs to go in later in the cycle, AddWash even allows users to add detergent or fabric softener at a later time. The combination of the Q-rator and AddWash creates a synergistic effect that further enhances user convenience, simplifying the laundry process.

Designed for Higher Durability

Finally, the WW7800M is designed for long-lasting performance. Equipped with Samsung’s Digital Inverter Technology, the WW7800M reduces noise and helps reduce energy consumption while providing exceptional durability4, enabling the washer to maintain its outstanding washing performance and fabric care.

1 Tested on Samsung WW7800M (9kg load) compared with WW6500K (9kg load). Saves up to 50% time and up to 20% energy on Cotton (40℃, half load) with washing performance within ±3% based on Intertek data and saves up to 20% energy on Super Speed cycle (40℃, 5kg load) tested by IEC 60456:2010. Cycle duration may vary depending on the water supply and weight/type of laundry.

2 The AddWash door only opens only when the drum temperature is below 50°C.

3 Only fabric items, clothing, detergent and softener can be added.

4 Awarded a 20-year durability certification by the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies in Germany (Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker – VDE).

Singapore – March 25, 2019 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today showcased the next generation of its award-winning Family Hub refrigerator at the 2019 Samsung Southeast Asia and Oceania Forum, continuing to innovate and redefine the refrigerator category.

A 2019 CES Innovation award honoree in the software and mobile apps product category, the new Family Hub continues to set a new standard for connected living, bringing the family together in the kitchen while freeing users up to focus on what’s important to them. As the new generation of homeowners look to technology to define both who they are and how they want to live their lives, there is no better place to do this than in a connected kitchen.

Packed with enhanced AI and IoT capabilities as well as the new Family Board, a communal screen that family members can interact with in a personalized way, the Family Hub helps foster true family connection, food management, and a connected home experience in today’s fast-paced modern world.

Seamless Home Intelligence with the new Bixby

A feature that sets the 2019 Family Hub apart from previous iterations is support for the new Bixby that allows for a smarter, hands-free, more personalized way to use the Family Hub. The new Bixby offers more services, allowing users to seamlessly control and monitor home IoT devices and services from the kitchen with your voice alone.

Users can ask Bixby for their Morning Brief while getting breakfast ready for the kids so they know all of their daily essentials such as the weather and top news. All of this appears on the Family Hub screen so they can see as well as hear it. Through Bixby’s voice ID technology, each family member’s voice is distinguished, so everyone can get tailored information for their individual needs. Bixby is even smarter and more conversational – allowing users to interact more naturally. Imagine, users can now search for a plane ticket through Expedia, call an Uber and pre-set the oven temperature just by talking to the Family Hub.

A lot of multitasking is required in the kitchen, so it can get quite hectic when you have to chop, prepare, and cook dishes at the same time. It gets even more tricky when your phone starts to ring. With an enhanced Smart View, multitasking is made easy, as you can mirror third-party apps on Family Hub’s screen seamlessly from your Galaxy phone, without the need to run the Smart View app on the fridge. Not only does the new Bixby allow you to answer a call hands-free, you can also browse through the millions of third-party apps available for the kitchen.

It’s now even easier for users to manage their apps on Family Hub, with efficient installation, updates and deletion from the Apps menu. On top of that, the Home Service can set the mood with music when you are preparing a small gathering or turn on your favorite playlist while you are cooking.

Taking intelligence a step further, with the Family Hub’s seamless integration of SmartThings, owners can now see and control hundreds of Samsung and third-party smart home devices right from the refrigerator screen and by voice with Bixby.

Share Memories and Memos on the Family Board

One of the most exciting new features is the Family Board. Families around the world use their refrigerator doors as bulletin-boards to share various things with each other – whether it’s by posting each family member’s schedule and the weekly menu, attaching travel magnets of the countries that they have visited, or proudly displaying the kids’ artworks for everyone to see.

The Family Board allows family members to interact with one another and share countless memories, giving the refrigerator’s screen a familiar, analogue feel. Meanwhile the Home Screen offers a digital service experience with an overview of important information and apps. Users can now have a devoted screen to share photos, messages and memories on their fridge, and are able to customize their photos with different photo styles, add handwritten notes and stickers, and even change the background colour to match their kitchen – all bringing the family closer to elevate the way they connect and share. The new Whiteboard has been updated with smart calligraphy that can recognize handwriting and a drawing function that can identify the objects depicted.

The Family Hub also features a dynamic screen saver that can be used to display precious family moments or blend into your home with ambient mode when Family Hub’s touch screen is not in use.

Get Smart with Healthier Food Management

From the beginning, food management with Family Hub has been a cornerstone feature elevating the way homeowners manage their food – whether using “View Inside” to see if they need eggs from their smartphone while at the store or adding items to their shopping list and tagging expiration dates. The Family Hub enables a user to create better and healthier meals with Meal Planner, which customizes recipes based on food preferences, dietary needs and the items in the fridge.

Last but not least, the kitchen experience has become more intelligent and efficient with updated features for Food Management. With the new Family Hub 2019, users can search for healthy recipes or preset the oven directly from the Recipes app with easy-to-use voice features. Users can also add items to your Shopping List or tag items for reminders and expiration dates.
