To mark World Health Day (WHD) 2026 on April 7, Samsung Newsroom asked him to detail his data-driven training regime, which embodies this year’s WHD slogan, “Together for health. Stand with science.”

With exclusive access to his Samsung Health metrics, we take an inside look into his grueling training program, which has seen him cover over 100 km in just one week. Discover how insights led him to adjust his training for optimal recovery and how even a “rest day” can include a 3 km run.

Q. Congratulations on your recent world record at the 2026 Lisbon Half Marathon. What’s the secret to your success?

There’s no secret. It’s just about discipline. You have to work hard, be extremely focused, and manage your energy — knowing when to rest and when to push harder. But honestly, the most important part is that you have to really want what you’re working toward. I wouldn’t have broken the world record if I didn’t follow that formula.

Q. You finished second at the 2025 London Marathon and are now preparing to go one step further at this year’s event. What role has your Galaxy Watch8 played in your training?

My coach doesn’t live in Uganda, so my Galaxy Watch8 has basically become his personal assistant here. Even though he’s not with me, he can get real-time analysis and reports on my running form through the Running Analysis feature in Samsung Health. We track my heart rate and pay close attention to my pace for each kilometer. During the harder sessions, I also monitor the asymmetry readings to see if I’m overcompensating on one side so I can avoid strain. Contact time is another key aspect I keep an eye on, making small adjustments to my form to ensure every stride is as efficient as possible. I always try to improve my running economy, so these insights are incredibly helpful.

Q. Looking at your recent Samsung Health data, we can see some clear patterns in your training routine. Tell us about your regime.

Consistency is key, but athletes must not be obsessed with training. What many people don’t realize is that rest is equally as important as physical training. To compete at your best, you need to be able to maximize your energy, and the only way to do that is through consistent rest. But “rest” doesn’t always mean no training. A rest day can mean running 3 km instead of 40 km. You have to be consistent in what you’re doing, but you also need to listen to your body and know when to slow down. Technology can help a lot with this.

Q. Can you give us an example of how a specific insight from the Samsung Health app led you to adapt your training program?

The decision to run 3 km instead of 40 km that I just mentioned was a true story. After experiencing some lingering soreness during a recent 24 km run, I decided to turn what was intended to be a 40 km run into a light 3 km jog to ensure I could recover and have the stamina to get through 40 km another day. The Samsung Health app was very helpful for me here. It kept me informed so I could allow my body to fully recover and prevent a potential injury or burnout.

Q. We’ve seen how a professional runner like yourself uses data to reach their goals. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their running journey, and how can the Running Coach feature get them on the right track?

For beginners, it is very important to ease into things and be patient. You will build up stamina over time; it’s about knowing when to push yourself and when to stop. Not everyone has a personal coach with them to tailor a training plan. But the Running Coach feature provides customized programs to help even beginners train for a marathon. It tells you exactly what you should be doing during a run, motivates you and helps you improve. New runners are fortunate to have this fantastic technology which can guide them every step of the way. It’s also great for more experienced runners looking to take on a full marathon as it provides structured training programs.

Q. On World Health Day, the message is “Together for health, stand with science.” How does this relate to your own philosophy?

Science helps me throughout my training. I don’t know where I would be without the ability to track data on my Galaxy Watch8. I use that science to shape my daily routine. Science and technology help me perform at my best, and I believe they can do the same for anyone.

Be Passionate About Your Subject

“Photography is a huge form of self-expression for me, and if it can move at least one person or if someone else can resonate with my work, then I am already over the moon about that,” said Nadirah when it comes to what fuels her passion for photography. Joshua’s favourite subject are people, more specifically capturing the essence of all that is human while highlighting a person’s natural beauty is what gives his hobby purpose. Because of this, Joshua specifically enjoyed using Portrait Mode on the Galaxy S22 Series for its seamless ability to capture the best of his subjects in vivid detail.

It really doesn’t matter whether you are shooting during the day or night, the two said, as long as you find a subject – be it a person, object, or scenery – that moves you passionately for it to be the language of your emotions. They later reiterated that photography and videography are both powerful ways to tell a story and if the creator is truly aligned with their subject, they will be able to capture that special magic that speaks directly to the hearts of viewers.

Get To Know Your Tools

Another important tip when it comes to content creation is to explore the features that your camera comes with. Because let’s be honest, it’s nice to point and click but if we don’t explore around then chances are we’ll stay blind to all the useful features we have available to us, and this applies specially to understanding the full potential of your camera. All the features on your camera tells you its strength and quirks, so part and parcel of being a good creator is understanding how these tools can take your content to the next level. So, experiment as much as you need and find out what works for you!

Meet these Amazing Girls

Dayang has been in the TV-industry since her late teens, building a career of over a decade in experience and accolades. From hosting to presenting to reporting, you can trust that she’s done it all. Dayang credits her family as the driving force behind her motivation, in particular, her one-year-old son!	To Sachie, music is and will always will be, her companion for life. Music to Sachie means more than just sound but a mystical medium for healing, empowerment, and inspiration for her self-expression as a recording artist.	Shivani seeks to educate and inspire women all around with her lifestyle and fashion-focused content. Throughout her ten-year hustle, she’s achieved a list of recognisable awards and was even featured in multiple magazines for her expertise on beauty and content creation.

Besides the BIG SHOES to fill in their respective careers, our girls also juggle a steady load of content for the various social platforms that they’re on. For Dayang, being in the TV industry means that she always has to stay updated with the latest news to the point where keeping up with information could easily swallow up an entire day.

“There’s so much info I need to prepare and take in, but you know what? Saves so much of my time when I’m on the move!” she later added when speaking on her remote working habits.

I’m obsessed with how gorgeous all my photos look on this phone!” before she started chuckling away.
The conversation naturally flowed to explore interesting projects whereby the trio shared the latest happenings in their lives, but Shivani perked interest when she said she’s been venturing deep into the night lately to experiment with low-light makeup content. This would typically be a bad idea considering both heavy shadows and harsher lighting, but apparently this intrigue started when she accidentally captured a perfect close-up one dark night and was pleasantly surprised by the end result, stating– “It got me pretty ecstatic in trying to play around with the different modes of the camera and wondering how I could make more abstract shots with that. It was a pretty fun night for discovery!”

After a couple more conversations and laughter, the session ended on a high note and ultimately sent the girls off with a deeper understanding of each other’s vibes, career goals, and the countless other topics – from their beginnings, to how they built something out of their passion, and the importance of photos for preserving memories and creative expression #withGalaxy. No matter what awaits the future, it’s safe to say that the trio sealed a bond today by being unapologetic with what they’re about.

Kuala Lumpur, 28 March 2022 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics today commemorated the launch of the new Galaxy S22 series with an event and short film competition named Born of the Galaxy Stars. This competition was endorsed by the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) and sought 22 aspiring filmmakers of all backgrounds to produce their films with the Galaxy S22 Series.

With the library of camera features available on the Galaxy S22 Series, the competition empowered new and aspiring directors to break the barriers of traditional filmmaking – by redefining the filmmaking experience and packaging all of that into one ultimate smartphone series.

Nightography Film Teasers was the event-highlight to showcase the work of four homegrown directors who produced four shorts that were filmed entirely on the Galaxy S22 Series. The amazing short films presented themes of Fashion, Fitness, Romance, and Music to celebrate the craft and drive inspiration for hopeful filmmakers via an extensive Q&A session that followed after.

Born of the Galaxy Stars 

As extension to their commitment, aspiring filmmakers may participate in the Born of the Galaxy Stars[1] film competition by submitting a short script in-line with the theme Borderless with Nightography by 17 April 2022.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics and Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) will then select 22 teams who will be presented with the Galaxy S22 Series to shoot and produce their short film. The final production will then be in the running to win an award in July 2022 at the Malaysian International Film Festival (MIFFest) opening ceremony.

In addition, 1 grand prize winner will be selected from the Top 3 and this winner will receive a recognition award, RM8,000 cash, a trophy, and Samsung products. The winner will also have a chance to expand their network to industry leaders in Malaysia during the 5^th MIFFest Opening Ceremony.
