Showcased concurrently at nationwide roadshows from today to 7^th May in Sunway Pyramid in Klang Valley, Queensbay Mall in Penang and Sutera Mall in Johor Bahru, the studio brought a glimpse of exciting virtual reality and 360 degree experiences to life with a host of the brand’s Galaxy devices – the new Gear VR with Controller, the second generation Gear 360 and the ultimate mobile productivity Samsung DeX.

Hours before Samsung sales counters opened for business, there was already a long line of fans queueing and waiting patiently for the opportunity to be one of the first to own the device. The sales counter which opened at 10am saw over a thousand customers scouring to roadshow venues in Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru to catch the limited time deals.

Vijay Anand, a 39 year old executive creative director, took his spot as one of the first 50 customers to get purchase the Galaxy S8 was eager to get his hand on his new device. “Having previously used the Galaxy S7 edge, I am very familiar and comfortable with the innovations of the Galaxy S Series. The new design is brilliant thanks to the new Infinity Display; and with all the new features and enhanced specifications, upgrading to the Galaxy S8 is an easy choice. My next mission is to explore the functionalities of the Gear VR and Gear 360 and experience the full Galaxy ecosystem.”

Shahrul Azuri, a 32 year old businessman, drove all the way from Cheras just to get in line and get his hands on the Galaxy S8+. “I have been always been a Note user but when I heard about all the new innovations of the Galaxy S8, I thought it will be a shame not to try it out. What captured my attention is the big screen and infinity display. I enjoy gaming and watching videos as it is a great way to unwind after work so this feature would be nifty for me. Coupled with the AKG earphones, I am looking forward to an all-round immersive experience with my Galaxy S8+. I also understand that the phone is preloaded with Samsung Pay so I am keen to try it out since I haven’t been able to with my current phone.”

KC Foo, a 33 year old IT executive, took a half day leave to queue for his Galaxy S8+. “I have always been an Android user and after using various different brands including Samsung, I have to say that the innovations in Samsung smartphones are still incomparable. I am in the IT industry and I do a lot of work on my phone so what struck me the most is Samsung DeX. I appreciate the fact that I would be able to transfer my work seamlessly and able to cast what I am doing to a monitor, all the while actually working on my Galaxy S8+.”

While thousands packed the halls of the Lincoln Centre, millions around the globe got onto their mobile devices to stream the live action all the way from New York. For those of you who missed out, here are the highlights of the Unpacked 2017.

In his keynote speech, DJ Koh, President of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications Business explains how the Galaxy S8 is a gateway to a rich mobile life that takes you beyond the boundaries of today’s experiences and unlocks the full potential of your imagination.

“It marks a new era in smartphone design… the perfect balance of form and function, art and science, design and technology,” Justin Denison, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at Samsung Electronics America, said of the Galaxy S8’s Infinity Display.

Sriram Thodla, Senior Director of Intelligence & IoT at Samsung Electronics America, explains that with a suite of new services, including the new Bixby interface and Samsung Connect, the Galaxy S8 is “a universal remote for your life.”

Jonathan Wong, Director of Product Marketing at Mobile B2B, Samsung Electronics America, gives the audience a live demonstration of DeX, Samsung’s new productivity tool that lets users power a desktop experience from their phone.

Suzanne De Silva, Principal Product Manager at Samsung Electronics America, demonstrates how the Galaxy S8 “empowers you to do incredible things” through the introduction of new versions of the Gear 360 and Gear VR. Event attendees were first users of the new Gear 360 as each received their very own device to record the unique moment at Galaxy Unpacked 2017.

In the Experience Zone, event attendees get hands-on with the Galaxy S8, the newest addition to Samsung’s Galaxy line-up, as well as its new services and accessories.

For the Malaysian market, Lee Jui Siang, Vice President, IT & Mobile Business Unit of Samsung Malaysia Electronics announced that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will open for pre-orders from 11th to 13th April 2017. Samsung Malaysia Electronics will reveal more details closer to the date.
