What started small has grown into a Mediterranean-wide movement. Today, more than 3,000 fishermen are working with Enaleia to remove plastic from the ocean and transform it into something new: raw material, usable products and hope.

Lefteris is doing more than cleaning the ocean. He’s reimagining our relationship with it, turning waste into resources, and skeptics into believers. He believes the ocean can heal. And he’s showing us how.

The process starts by collecting previously used Galaxy smartphones, such as those from trade-in programs. The batteries are carefully dismantled, discharged and shredded to safely recover cobalt. Then, the shredded fragments are processed into “black mass,” a powder mixture containing cobalt and other metals. The black mass undergoes further processing to extract cobalt, which is then used to produce cathode material—an essential component of smartphone batteries. The remaining cobalt goes through the final stage of the battery manufacturing process, becoming an integral part of the new Galaxy S25 batteries, with each Galaxy S25 battery featuring 50% recycled cobalt².

Samsung will continue to expand the use of our new recycled cobalt batteries into our ecosystem to accelerate circularity.

Samsung’s collaboration with PLDT is part of the latter’s upcoming VITRO data center in Santa Rosa, Laguna. The first Samsung Display Solutions Center, in Partnership with Versatech

Samsung’s partnership with Versatech is for the tech maker’s first-ever Display Solutions Experience Center, or the 7AV Experience Center, in Pasig City. The space showcases Samsung’s innovative displays, like The Samsung Kiosk and The Wall (All-in-One), which made its debut in the Philippines this year.

In order to approach problems in new ways and to find solutions, the next generations will have to be more creative and this is why Samsung focuses on education.

How to join

Solve for Tomorrow is open to Grades 8-10 students of government-managed Science High Schools. They should form a team of maximum four students each, and choose one faculty adviser from their respective schools.

Teams formed should identify a local community / environmental sustainability problem they want to solve with technology and come up with a design proposal presented via a slides presentation (5 slides max) or word document (2,500 words max). Once entry is finalized, submission is via the Solve for Tomorrow PH website. Deadline of entries is on 03 November 2023.

Entries will be evaluated based on design innovation, relevance to the community, feasibility, STEM integration, sustainability and clarity of proposal.

The top 10 entries will then be selected. Finalists will be announced on November 10, 2023, with the top 10 teams to receive expert mentoring to improve their solutions and the chance to present their final proposals to the distinguished board of judges on November 24, 2023.The top three teams will be awarded first, second, and third prize respectively.

The Grand Prize winner will receive Php 650,00 worth of tablets and a TV for the school, Php 100,000 for the team members, Php 20,000 for the teacher, and Samsung phones and tablets for team members and their teacher.

Meanwhile, the Second Prize winner will take home Php 350,000 worth of Samsung devices for the school, Php 75,000 for team members, Php 15,000 for the teacher, and Samsung phones and tablets for team members and their teacher.

Finally, the Third Prize winner will receive Php 150,000 worth of Samsung devices for the school, Php 50,000 for team members, Php 8,000 for the teacher, and Samsung phones and tablets for team members and their teacher.

The inner frame is made with a material consisting of a minimum of 20% post-consumer recycled plastic sourced from discarded water barrels, and the interior of the case has recycled microfiber, which is made with a minimum of 29% recycled PET plastics.

Each Silicone Grip Case comes with a strap that uses fabric consisting of 86% recycled PET plastics. To create the strap material, PET bottles are melted down and repurposed to form a flexible and durable yarn.

Smart View Wallet Case

Known for its convenience, the Smart View Wallet Case for the Galaxy S23 series allows users to easily access their device’s interactive display without opening the cover. With a simple tap to the display window, Galaxy users can answer a call or play music.

But the Smart View Wallet Case is more than convenient, it is designed with eco-conscious materials. The outer cover is constructed with a material that has a minimum of 21% bio-based content . The inner frame, similarly, uses a material with a minimum of 20% post-consumer recycled plastics, while the interior of the case is made with recycled microfibers containing a minimum of 29% recycled PET plastics.

Rugged Gadget Case

The Rugged Gadget Case for the Galaxy S23 series is built to last, with a sturdy design and comfortable grip. It protects the device against bumps, drops and scratches. This heavy-duty case has been drop-tested to meet military-grade standards.

The case’s enhanced protection is supported by recycled materials, demonstrating that improved durability should not come at a cost to eco-conscious material innovation. The outer frame incorporates a material containing a minimum of 37% bio-based content.

While smartphone photography has advanced significantly in the last decade due to innovations in camera hardware, computational imaging, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), taking photos in low light has always been difficult — that is, until Samsung officially launched its breakthrough Nightography feature for its Galaxy S Series.

Removes noise with MFP Technology

It is difficult to capture fun and exciting moments that occur at night. The main challenge with night photography is having shots that are full of noise, making them appear grainy and unrefined.

Samsung experts developed technology for taking vivid photos in low-light situations. The S23 camera can now capture a series of images with different brightness levels. It then applies multi-frame processing (MFP) technology which analyzes the images, removes the frames with noise or blur. Afterwards, it merges the remaining frames into a single clear shot with HDR.

Improves color, tone and details through AI-powered ISP Algorithm

So, what’s the point of a crisp photo if it’s dull? You can always rely on editing apps and filters, but this still requires some effort and a keen eye for detail if you want to make your photos look as realistic as possible. But with the Galaxy S23 Series Nightography feature, you can put these worries to sleep.

The MFP also allows for the creation of a high-definition photo. The AI powered ISP algorithm in the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) enhances the photo’s color, tone and details, making it appear life-like by capturing full colors in low light.

The S Pen also offers Smart Select and Screen Write for clearer screenshots. Smart Select allows you to create a custom screenshot by manually selecting the area to capture with the S Pen, while to use the Screen Write feature, you can annotate the screenshot with text or drawings.

Meanwhile, the One UI feature allows for the translation of texts without the assistance of Google Translate. When it comes to multi-tasking, the S Pen also allows minimizing an app as a thumbnail with the Quick Open feature. You can also get a clearer look at text or image with the Magnify feature that can Zoom on the portion of the screen by hovering it with the S Pen.

Take photos and game like a pro

Shooting cinematic photos and videos is easier with the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s Nightography feature, which includes its most advanced camera sensor and fastest processor to accommodate low light and reduce noise so you can take clearer shots at night. Capturing stunning photos in low light requires trillions of calculations per second, so Samsung Galaxy’s highly efficient NPU architecture has been optimized by 49 percent to balance performance and power while using an AI algorithm to help users take epic photos and videos.

The front and back glass of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G contains an average of 22% recycled content while the back glass deco film contains a minimum of 80% recycled content which includes Glass PET film, recycled glass and ocean-bound plastic that received environmental claim validation (ECV). The S Pen inner cover located within the S Pen slot also contains a minimum of 20% ocean-bound polyamide (PA). Its paper packaging is made of 100% recycled paper, excluding the seal label and shrinkage vinyl, while its window protection paper is made of 100% recycled paper.
