Since introducing the first Galaxy Fold at 276 grams in 2019, Samsung Electronics has continued to expand what a foldable smartphone can be, advancing hinge and display design, durability, and usability with every generation.

As those technologies evolved, Samsung focused on another challenge: making a large-screen foldable easier to carry every day, without losing the experiences that make the form factor unique.

And through that pursuit, Galaxy Z Fold5 weighed 253 grams, and Galaxy Z Fold6 reduced its weight further to 239 grams.

With Galaxy Z Fold7 came an even more ambitious goal:

“Could a foldable be lighter than a bar-type flagship smartphone?”

At the time, Galaxy S25 Ultra — one of Samsung’s flagship bar-type smartphones — weighed 218 grams. So, the development team set an even lighter weight target for Galaxy Z Fold7: 215 grams.

Galaxy Z Fold7 reached that goal. And now, building on years of foldable innovation, Galaxy Z Fold8 combines a new form factor with advances in core technologies, materials, and internal architecture to weigh just 201 grams — 52 grams lighter than Galaxy Z Fold5. At 201 grams, Galaxy Z Fold8 is the world’s lightest fold. [1]

▲ Galaxy Z Fold’s weight and thickness by generation

But consumers expected more than just a lighter foldable.

A 2024 YouGov survey found that a bulky or heavy design remained a concern among consumers not planning to purchase foldables, while battery life, durability, and display quality ranked as top priorities for those considering them.

This insight shaped a core engineering goal for Samsung: make foldables thinner and lighter, while maintaining the core experiences users value most.

Battery life, camera performance, thermal management, and durability still had to advance.

That could not be achieved by changing a single component. Samsung engineers had to reimagine the entire device — advancing fundamental foldable technologies, introducing new materials, and revisiting hundreds of components and auxiliary parts to the fraction-of-a-gram level.

From 253 grams to 201 grams. Three engineering innovations enabled that transformation.

The Thinner and Lighter a Foldable Gets, the More Precise the Engineering Must Become

Making a foldable thinner and lighter brings a new set of engineering challenges.

The layers inside the display need to become thinner while still meeting Samsung’s durability and reliability requirements. The metal plate supporting the display needs to stay extremely flat even as it becomes thinner. And the hinge has to manage the forces created every time the device folds and unfolds, while being designed around the size and structure of each product.

Across generations, Samsung has continued to advance the display layers, ultra-thin metal precision machining, and hinge technologies central to its foldable devices.

One example is Flex Titanium.

The displays in Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra use Flex Titanium technology featuring a Titanium Alloy Film designed for the foldable display structure.

The film is just tens of micrometers thick — roughly one-third the width of a human hair. Its material and structure work together to maintain performance at this extreme thickness.

The metal plate that supports the display presents a different challenge.

Some metal plates are machined to approximately 0.2 millimeters thick, with the thinnest sections reaching 0.15 millimeters. At that level, simply making the metal thinner is not enough. Thin metal can bend or warp more easily during machining, and even a small change in shape can affect assembly precision or the surface quality of the display.

What matters is the ability to machine ultra-thin metal at around 0.2 millimeters while consistently achieving the required shape and flatness.

Samsung refined the machining sequence, tooling, cooling conditions, and process parameters, breaking the process into multiple stages to maintain precision.

The hinge requires the same level of care.

Beyond simply opening and closing the phone, it must distribute the forces created by repeated folding and unfolding across the device while maintaining structural stability.

And these requirements vary by product size and architecture.

Samsung engineers the hinge for each form factor, carefully balancing load distribution, strength, durability, internal space, and weight rather than just scaling it down from one generation to the next.

Creating a thinner and lighter foldable requires more than downsizing individual parts.

It comes from greater precision in how materials are machined, how forces are managed, and how structures are designed within a limited space.

Lighter, Built for Strength — Starting With the Materials

The second area is materials innovation.

Different parts of a foldable have very different jobs. Some demand high rigidity. Some must withstand repeated movement. Others need to spread heat efficiently.

Samsung selects and develops materials around those specific needs, delivering the performance each requires while optimizing weight and space.

In Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Flex Titanium incorporates a Titanium Alloy Film to support the foldable display structure.

For the exterior, Samsung uses Advanced Armor Aluminum, helping provide the strength and durability needed in a thin and lightweight frame.

Materials also play an important role in thermal management.

As a device gets thinner, there is less room to manage the heat generated inside. Samsung uses graphite with improved thermal performance, while tailoring the overall thermal structure to the size and performance requirements of each product.

In Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which has similar overall dimensions to Galaxy Z Fold7, the volume of the graphite heat-dissipation layer was increased by approximately 7% to help support its enhanced performance.

Samsung also applies Clad Metal inside the rear of the device. By combining the characteristics of different metals, the material helps reduce weight while providing the thermal performance required within a thin structure.

Materials innovation is therefore not just about choosing lighter options, but about using the right material in the right place to deliver the performance each part needs with less weight and space.

Looking Again at the Entire Device — Down to 0.001 Grams

Only so much can be achieved through core technologies and new materials alone.

In a foldable already packed with highly integrated components, finding the next few grams means looking again at almost everything inside the device.

Samsung engineers reviewed approximately 270 components and more than 180 types of auxiliary parts.

This spanned everything from the display, hinge, and cameras to circuit boards, antennas, brackets, tapes, and fasteners.

The precision extended to reductions of 0.1 grams and 0.1 millimeters, and in some auxiliary parts, as little as 0.001 grams.

The printed circuit board, or PCB, was redesigned to remove unnecessary circuits, improve component layout, and minimize its footprint.

The MFC (Magnetic Flux Channel) antenna was also reimagined to reduce unnecessary overlap and interference with surrounding components, allowing the limited internal space to be used more efficiently.

Every auxiliary part, no matter how small, was examined.

Of the more than 180 types previously used, approximately 15 were eliminated.

Engineers then reviewed the remaining 170 types, trimming oversized areas, refining shapes, and optimising dimensions. Multiple parts were consolidated into single structures where possible.

In some cases, the savings were measured in increments as small as 0.001 grams.

Each change seems minor in isolation, but repeated across the device, fractions of a gram become tenths of a gram, then whole grams.

The weight savings on a finished device result from hundreds of small engineering decisions.

Finding 6 Grams Again to Make Room for More

The goal was to reinvest the weight and space recovered through engineering into the capabilities people actually experience — including the battery, cameras, and thermal system.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra provides a separate example of how this approach can be applied.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold7 have similar overall dimensions and both weigh 215 grams. But within that same weight, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra increases battery capacity from 4,400 mAh to 5,000 mAh.

That larger battery brought its own challenge: the battery itself added approximately 6 grams.

So the development team faced a new question:

“Where could we find those 6 grams again?”

There was no single component that could provide the answer.

Instead, engineers applied the same systematic approach across the entire device — materials and structures, circuit layouts, and component placement, down to the smallest auxiliary parts — identifying weight savings across all components.

This strategy extended to internal space optimisation.

By reducing unnecessary overlap between the display, circuits, antennas, and surrounding components, and by improving packaging efficiency, Samsung created room for a larger battery and enhanced thermal and camera systems.

As a result, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra accommodates a 5,000 mAh battery while increasing the volume of its graphite heat-dissipation layer by approximately 7% compared with the similarly sized Galaxy Z Fold7.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 200 MP main camera and introduces the first 50 MP Ultra-Wide camera on a Galaxy Z Fold device.

Samsung’s approach to a thinner and lighter foldable is therefore not about removing capabilities.

It is about redirecting weight and space savings toward the flagship experiences users value most.

From 253 Grams to 201 Grams: Redefining the Weight Standard for Foldables

The journey began with the first Galaxy Fold at 276 grams in 2019. Across eight generations, Samsung has continued to advance the technologies, materials, and internal architecture behind the foldable experience.

In recent generations, that progress accelerated — from 253 grams with Galaxy Z Fold5 to 201 grams with Galaxy Z Fold8.

But the story isn’t just about reducing weight.

Samsung’s goal has been to make a large-screen foldable easier to carry without giving up the qualities users expect from a flagship smartphone.

The weight and space recovered through advances in core technologies, materials, and component design were put back into the battery, cameras, thermal system, and other flagship experiences users value most.

From 253 grams to 201 grams.

No single material or component made that transformation possible.

Eight generations of engineering enabled this, advancing core technologies, introducing new materials, and rethinking the entire device to make Galaxy Z Fold easier to carry without compromising the flagship experience.

Galaxy Z Fold Series: A Thinner, Lighter Journey in Numbers

– 52 g
Galaxy Z Fold8 is 52 grams lighter than Galaxy Z Fold5.

1/3, 0.2 mm
The Titanium Alloy Film used in Flex Titanium is approximately one-third the width of a human hair, while ultra-thin metal structures supporting the display are precision-machined to around 0.2 millimeters.

~270 / 180+ / 0.001 g
Samsung re-examined approximately 270 components and more than 180 types of auxiliary parts, optimizing some down to 0.001 grams.

5,000 mAh / +~7% / 200 MP + 50 MP
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 5,000 mAh battery, approximately 7% more graphite heat-dissipation volume and a 200 MP main camera with a 50 MP Ultra-Wide camera.

Samsung Electronics Singapore today announced that the new Galaxy Z Series and Galaxy Watch line-up is now generally available in Singapore.

In Singapore, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | Fold8 | Flip8 and Galaxy Watch9 | Watch Ultra2 are now available through local telcos, major consumer electronics and IT stores, Samsung Online Store, Samsung Official Stores on select platforms, and Samsung Experience Stores.

The latest Galaxy Z Fold Series has seen strong early demands in Southeast Asia and Oceania, with pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra having increased by almost 60% in the region, compared to the Galaxy Z Fold7.

Graphite was the most popular colour overall for Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8, while Pink led pre-orders for Galaxy Z Flip8. Among Samsung.com pre-order customers aged 15 to 34, online exclusive colours Green Shadow, Pistachio and Mint emerged as the top choices for Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8, respectively.

The New Galaxy Z Series: Three Distinct Foldable Experiences

Built on seven generations of foldable innovation and consumer insight, the new Galaxy Z Series gives users more choice than ever, with three distinct experiences engineered to fit different needs.

Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a fresh form factor built around the way people explore, discover and immerse themselves in their favourite content. Its display ratios are designed to move naturally with users throughout the day – from quick interactions like messaging, browsing and short-form video on the wider cover screen to more immersive viewing, reading and gaming on the 4:3 main display.

At just 201 g, it is Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet, while Samsung’s new Flex Titanium technology helps support a slimmer display structure with lasting durability and reduced crease visibility over time.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra brings Galaxy’s renowned Ultra standard to foldables, combining a larger workspace with an upgraded camera system and performance built for demanding creative workflows. Its expansive 8-inch main display opens up more room for multitasking, while Now Nudge[1] helps users move from conversation to action by suggesting relevant next steps across supported apps.

The 200 MP main camera now supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) for richer detail, colour and clarity. A new 50 MP ultra-wide camera adds greater flexibility for wider scenes and macro shots, helping users capture more from one device.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra also features a 5,000 mAh battery[2], 45 W fast charging and an expanded graphite cooling structure – all in Galaxy’s slimmest Z Fold design yet, measuring just 4.1 mm when unfolded and weighing 215 g.

Galaxy Z Flip8, Samsung’s sleekest Flip ever released, is built for expression and quick interaction on the go. Its reimagined FlexWindow brings apps, insights, actions and assistance directly to the cover screen. Now Brief[3] surfaces personalised information based on users’ schedules, routines and interests. Users can also access Gemini from the FlexWindow through side-key activation or natural voice requests, making it easier to complete connected actions on the go.

Galaxy Z Flip8 further enhances Samsung’s signature Flip camera experience with a 50 MP camera, ProVisual Engine and FlexCam experiences that make it easier to capture, preview and share polished photos and videos from flexible angles.

Across Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, Dual Recording captures both the action and the user’s reaction, while My FanCam[4] automatically tracks and reframes a selected subject.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra may be most recognisable for its 8-inch folding main display, but the device’s real benefit is more than simply having a larger screen.

Building on established Galaxy tools such as Multi Window[1] and Samsung DeX, context-aware experiences for foldables such as Now Nudge[2] help keep more of a task visible and make it easier to move from one step to the next without constantly switching apps.

Whether you’re researching, planning a trip, or editing content, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra adapts to the way you work, helping you accomplish more from a single device.

Why Is Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Good for Productivity?

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is like a mobile workspace that can adapt to the task at hand. It can transition from its 6.5-inch cover screen to its expansive 8-inch main screen[3] without losing your place.

Start with an app while the device is folded, then open it to continue right where you left off with more room to examine a photo, comfortably review a spreadsheet, or work across supported apps side by side.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy[4], 5,000 mAh battery[5], and expanded graphite cooling structure help keep the device responsive during demanding multitasking, content creation, and AI-powered tasks.

How Do I Use Multiple Apps at Once?

Multi Window lets you run supported apps side by side on the main screen. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra supports two-way and three-way split view, and you can resize the individual windows to suit your task. Check your calendar while replying to a message, search the web while reviewing a presentation, or use a calculator while reviewing your budget spreadsheet. You can also open supported apps in pop-up view when you want a movable, resizable window over your existing workspace.

You can even quickly access frequently used apps from the Taskbar at the bottom of the main screen, like you would on a tablet. If you regularly use the same apps together — such as Calendar and Messages — you can save them as an app pair and reopen the combination in split view with one tap.

What is Now Nudge and How Does it Work?

With Now Nudge, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra automatically recognises what you’re doing and proactively suggest what you might want to do next. For example, if you’re messaging about meeting up with a friend for dinner, it might suggest adding it to your calendar. When you tap to open your calendar app, the conversation stays visible on one side of your screen, helping you move forward without losing context or manually switching between windows.

What Is Samsung DeX and How Does It Work on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra?

Samsung DeX makes it possible to use Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in a desktop-like workspace. Connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse[6] to work across multiple apps in resizable windows, use a desktop-style taskbar and navigate with a cursor for a complete mobile workstation.

When shopping for a new phone, you’ve probably read reviews and watched comparison videos in search of the “best” device.

While rankings can be helpful, they can’t answer the most important question: which phone is best for me? That answer depends on personal considerations like how you prefer to work, create, and stay connected throughout your day.

Why Does Samsung Offer Multiple Foldable Form Factors?

The best foldable isn’t the same for everyone. That’s exactly why Samsung offers three distinct foldable designs with the new Galaxy Z Series.

Whether you want to consolidate with a single mobile device that can power through your to-do list, a screen built for streaming and reading, or looking for something more compact and convenient, Galaxy Z Series has options.

Through eight generations of refinement, Samsung understands what users want most from foldables. The new Galaxy Z Series is the result of all that experience. Every device delivers in the areas users care about most: displays, durability, portability, and performance.

Which Galaxy Z Foldable Is Right for You?

The latest Galaxy Z Series offers a range of innovative foldable form factors, the compact Galaxy Z Flip8, the brand-new Galaxy Z Fold8, and the powerful Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.

Deciding which is right for you ultimately depends on what you want from your smartphone experience, and how your phone fits into your life.

Choose Galaxy Z Flip8 if you want:

Maximum portability from Samsung’s slimmest and lightest Z Series device

An experience built around self-expression and capturing the best selfies

Everyday convenience for quick tasks without opening your phone

Choose Galaxy Z Fold8 if you’re looking for:

A new foldable shape designed for consuming social and video content

An immersive viewing experience for watching, reading, and gaming

Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet

Choose Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you prioritise:

Samsung’s top-of the line experience reserved for Ultra devices

Multitasking on an expansive 8-inch folding main screen[1]

Productivity and flagship performance

The most versatile and capable camera system in the Galaxy Z Series, with 200 MP Wide camera and upgraded 50 MP Ultra Wide camera for the most scenic shots in high-resolution

Across the lineup, the durability of the Galaxy Z Series is complemented by Galaxy’s latest mobile AI[2] experiences and software optimised for each form factor, giving you a bespoke experience built around each unique design.

The best phone is the one that fits your life, and Samsung Galaxy’s portfolio is designed to help you find it. From the Galaxy Z TriFold introduced in late 2025, to the latest Galaxy Z Series, Samsung is committed to evolving its foldable portfolio to meet a wide range of needs and lifestyles.

Hear it from the experts

Still not sure which foldable to get? HardwareZone details who should get which Galaxy Z Series smartphone based on your usage needs.

On July 22 at Galaxy Unpacked July 2026, Samsung Electronics unveiled Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, marking the eighth generation of the Galaxy Z series.

Across seven generations, Samsung has helped define the foldable category through advances in display technology, hinge engineering and materials innovation — all driven by a deep understanding of how people use their devices.

To hear how those insights guided the engineering behind Samsung’s latest foldables, Samsung Newsroom sat down with Sunghoon Moon, Executive Vice President and Senior Executive of Mobile R&D Office – Hardware, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.

Q. How have seven generations of user insights shaped Samsung’s approach to the latest Galaxy Z Series?

From the beginning, we saw foldables as an opportunity to redefine how people interact with their smartphones — not simply as a new form factor. Through seven generations, we’ve learned how people open, carry, unfold and rely on their devices. Those insights have shaped our engineering priorities and guided each new generation of the Galaxy Z Series.

Over time, three priorities became clear: larger, more immersive displays; thinner and lighter devices without compromising durability; and ultra performance while preserving the unique advantages of the foldable form factor. Delivering all three became the defining engineering challenge behind the latest Galaxy Z Series.

Q. Samsung describes foldable innovation as engineering one connected system. What does that mean in practice?

With foldables, every component is interconnected. Making a device thinner, for example, means redesigning the display, hinge, battery, thermal system and internal architecture together. Rather than optimising individual parts separately, we engineer the entire device as one connected system. This end-to-end engineering philosophy extends from materials and component design to manufacturing, validation and the final product experience — allowing engineering advancements to become improvements people experience every day.

Q. The new Galaxy Z Series introduces Flex Titanium technology. What engineering challenges did it solve?

Our goal was to make foldables thinner and lighter without compromising durability or the viewing experience. That required us to rework the display support structure protecting the ultra-thin OLED panel while preserving the flexibility needed for repeated folding.

Used in demanding industries such as aerospace, titanium offered the strength and resistance against permanent deformation essential for a foldable display. But selecting the material was only the beginning. The real challenge was developing the processing, structural design and manufacturing expertise needed to make titanium suitable for repeated folding.

Flex Titanium technology makes the display thinner and more durable while reducing crease visibility.

Flex Titanium combines two titanium-based elements. The titanium plate beneath the display serves as the primary structural support, helping absorb pressure and impacts from both the front and rear of the device. A precision-engineered lattice structure — created through a hybrid manufacturing process — allows the plate to remain flexible while maintaining structural strength. Beneath the display panel, the titanium-alloy film provides the strength, flexibility and elastic recovery needed to support repeated everyday folding, even at a thickness of just tens of micrometres — roughly one-third the thickness of a human hair.

Flex Titanium technology features an exceptionally thin titanium-alloy film and precision-engineered titanium plate.

Together, these innovations strengthened the display support structure while reducing display module thickness by 10%, creating additional space for the battery, thermal system and camera. For users, that translates into a thinner, lighter device with a flatter display and reduced crease visibility.

Q. How did Samsung reinvent the battery system for the latest Galaxy Z Series?

Users expect longer battery life, faster charging and a thinner foldable — without compromising safety, stability or long-term reliability. Meeting those expectations required reengineering the battery system, not simply increasing battery capacity.

We introduced a silicon-carbon anode to improve energy density, but the innovation extends beyond the anode. Because silicon-carbon materials are more reactive, maintaining long-term stability under high-voltage conditions meant optimising the entire battery system. Improvements to the display structure also created additional internal space, allowing us to redesign the battery system while preserving a slimmer form factor. As a result, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 5,000 mAh battery.

The same philosophy shaped charging. Rather than applying a single solution across the line-up, we developed charging architectures tailored to each foldable form factor. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 use a dual-path charging architecture that helps distribute power more efficiently across the battery system, enabling faster, more stable and reliable charging while improving heat management. This supports 45 W fast charging, enabling Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra to reach a 67% charge in 30 minutes. For Galaxy Z Flip8, the charging architecture was separately optimised for the unique spatial and thermal requirements of its compact form factor.

Q. To ensure foldables can withstand years of everyday use, how does Samsung validate durability before bringing a device to market?

For us, durability isn’t just about design — it must be proven through testing. We validated the complete foldable system under conditions that reflect how people use their devices. The latest Galaxy Z Series was subjected to more than 100 reliability validation tests covering real-world conditions including drops, repeated folding, pressure, moisture and debris. Our goal was to understand how the complete device performs in everyday use, identify potential issues before they reach customers and build foldables people can trust.

Q. Looking back at the entire development process, how would you describe Samsung’s approach behind the Galaxy Z Series?

Everything starts with the user. Over seven generations, we’ve transformed user insights into innovations in materials, components and the overall device experience. That philosophy continues to guide the Galaxy Z Series — delivering foldables that are thinner, more durable, more capable and more intuitive year after year.

A New Class of Agentic Experiences Optimised for Foldables

As the most personal device people carry, the phone has become the primary entry point where AI meets users — and the new Galaxy Z Series sets the tone for the next generation of mobile AI experiences. Galaxy AI now works across more apps and services, with experiences optimised for foldable form factors. By understanding what matters to each user and helping turn insights into action, Galaxy AI becomes more personal, proactive and useful throughout the day.

Now Brief helps users stay informed with personalised insights tailored to their routines, interests and daily needs through expanded scenarios, customisable briefing cards and personalised recommendations. It now also surfaces security and privacy insights, helping users stay on top of potential risks and protective actions.

Now Nudge[19] helps turn insights into action. When plans begin to take shape in a conversation, AI can surface relevant next steps such as checking a schedule, finding a place or saving a location. On foldables, users can continue the conversation side by side on larger displays.

Gemini Intelligence helps users move from request to result with fewer steps. Users can simply describe what they need or even add screen or image context. App automation can now work across more than 40 supported apps and services, with capabilities ranging from looking up tickets to finding a nearby restaurant and making a reservation. With Gemini Notebook, users can bring together notes, images, recordings, files and documents in one persistent workspace to collect, organise and develop their ideas. Drag-and-drop support in Split view makes the workflow even more intuitive, allowing users to easily add multiple files and images and turn their content into audio overviews, infographics, reports, meeting recaps, visual summaries, documents and more.

AI experiences become more connected and contextual when the new Galaxy Z Series is connected with the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 Series. From wellness insights to daily routines and connected actions, Galaxy AI helps users move more seamlessly between devices with timely personalised support throughout the day.

Together, these experiences show how Galaxy AI is becoming a more capable and proactive companion, helping users accomplish more with less effort. Across the line-up, foldable form factors make these experiences easier to access throughout the day.

Security and Privacy Built Into the Experience

As AI becomes more personal and agentic, trust continues to be a critical foundation of the experience. Users need to know how their data is used, understand what AI is doing on their behalf and stay in control of the choices that shape their experience. With the new Galaxy Z Series, Samsung builds that trust into the device from the start, keeping personal data secure while giving users transparency, choice and control over how their information is used.

Samsung Knox protects every Galaxy device from the chip up, with a multi-layered approach that includes on-device personalisation, user-controlled cloud processing, as well as future-ready protections such as ecosystem-wide protection through Samsung Knox Matrix.

For on-device AI, Personal Data Engine (PDE) enables context-aware, personalised AI experiences. To protect PDE, Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) creates encrypted, app-specific storage environments, while Knox Vault adds a tamper-resistant physical layer for sensitive information[20]. These system-level protections work together with Advanced Intelligence settings and Personal Data Intelligence to help users control how AI features manage and use personal data.

One UI 9.0 also introduces a new AI Assistant Activity dashboard, giving users a centralised view of AI automations running on their behalf. Instead of moving across multiple apps and services to understand what happened, users can review AI actions in one place and navigate directly to the relevant agent[21] for additional context and settings. The Galaxy Z8 Series also brings enhanced Privacy Alerts that proactively notify users about potential privacy risks, including unnecessary attempts to access background permissions, helping them respond before those risks become invisible.

These updates build on Galaxy’s existing security and privacy portfolio which includes Auto Blocker, Theft Protection, Private Sharing, Secure Wi-Fi and more. Together, these advancements help users take a more active role in managing personal data and AI activities, with transparency, clearer choices and stronger protections at the core of their experience — helping ensure that more personal AI experiences remain grounded in trust.

With the expanded access to Google’s most capable AI models, users can boost their productivity and creativity on the foldable screen anytime they want.

Switching to Galaxy is now easier than ever, thanks to a more seamless migration experience across a wider range of devices[24]. With the updated Smart Switch, iOS users can scan a QR code on their current devices and wirelessly transfer data without downloading additional apps. Smart Switch can also bring over additional types of data including passwords and passkeys, call history, accessibility settings, eSIM data and more, helping reduce the time needed to set up a new device. And with Quick Share’s new compatibility with AirDrop[25], sharing files between iOS and Galaxy devices is now seamless in both directions.

Samsung Electronics today unveiled new Flex Titanium technology for the next generation of Galaxy foldable devices. Built on seven generations of foldable innovation and engineering expertise, the redesigned display structure utilises structural and material advancements to deliver a more refined viewing experience with enhanced durability and reduced crease visibility. Made possible thanks to Samsung’s accumulated display know-how, Flex Titanium technology integrates two titanium-based components — a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate — working together to balance slimness, flexibility and strength within the foldable display structure.

“Samsung’s strength in the foldable category comes from connecting user needs with our technologies that deliver tangible benefits in everyday life,” said Sunghoon Moon, Corporate EVP and Senior Executive in charge of the Mobile R&D Office – Hardware, Samsung Electronics. “For the next generation of Galaxy foldables, Samsung is building on years of expertise to bring display innovations into devices that enhance user experiences, anchored by exceptional viewing experiences.”

Building on Years of Foldable Experience

Samsung has played a leading role in advancing mobile display innovation and bringing it to consumers at scale through mobile devices. This legacy includes the widespread adoption of AMOLED displays in 2007 and the evolution of displays into flexible form factors.

Innovative technologies can only reach their full potential and provide meaningful user experiences through continuous refinement in real-world conditions and the foldable category is no exception. Across seven generations of Galaxy foldables, Samsung has listened closely to consumer feedback. This has given the company a deep understanding of what users expect from the category: a larger, more immersive viewing experience with less visible crease — without compromising durability or portability.

To meet these expectations, Samsung had to rethink how foldable displays are constructed by bringing together breakthroughs in technology, materials and mechanical engineering. The result is the latest milestone in foldable display innovation: Flex Titanium technology. By successfully integrating display innovation with device engineering, Samsung will continue to shape the direction of the mobile industry and deliver standout user experiences.

Flex Titanium: Next-Level Viewing

To create a display that provides an immersive viewing experience while maintaining its ability to withstand everyday use, Samsung took a new approach to structural design. This required a material strong enough to withstand external shock, flexible enough to endure repeated folding and thin enough to fit within a refined device structure. Balancing all three factors was essential to advancing foldable displays — and titanium offered the right mix.

Known for its resilience and strength, titanium has been used in some of the most demanding applications, including satellite antennas and the wheels of a Mars rover. While its strength makes titanium a dependable material, it also presents significant engineering challenges when applied to the thin and flexible structure of a foldable display due to its stiffness. Drawing on its expertise, Samsung has integrated titanium into two key components: a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate.

The titanium-alloy film is a component that supports the display from within, sitting below the OLED panel. Compared with polymer film, it provides 20 times greater mechanical stiffness. A precision rolling process makes the material exceptionally thin — measuring roughly one-third the thickness of an average human hair — enabling a slimmer display panel.

Below this sits a robust titanium plate, a flexible structure that supports the display module from beneath. It allows tighter bonding with the display module by eliminating air gaps between the module and the adhesive on the plate through advanced hole processing technology. This new structure provides more stable support underneath the display when unfolded while retaining the flexibility needed to accommodate repeated folding.

Furthermore, by integrating a high-resolution architecture and next-generation organic materials, the new display delivers ultra-vivid display resolution while reducing power consumption — delivering a dramatic boost in overall power efficiency.

“By introducing sophisticated micro-patterned holes to the folding section of the titanium plate, we have successfully secured flexibility with robust durability,” said Kyung-Jin Yoo, EVP and Head of Mobile Display Product Development Team, Samsung Display. “Combining high-resolution display architecture with new organic materials that maximize power efficiency, we will further strengthen the competitiveness of next-generation Galaxy foldable devices.”

Together, these advancements enable a strong foldable display that maximizes content immersion on a seamless screen and reduces crease visibility — all while keeping it slim. By balancing strength, flexibility and structural stability, Samsung continues to set the bar for foldable displays.

The new Flex Titanium technology will debut with Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy foldable devices. Further details will be unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked.

History repeats a pattern. The breakthroughs that change everything are rarely the most powerful inventions. They are the moments those inventions reach into

History repeats a pattern. The breakthroughs that change everything are rarely the most powerful inventions. They are the moments those inventions reach into daily life. Electricity changed society not with power plants, but when a switch appeared in homes. The internet became ours through the browser. The phone became powerful through the ecosystem of apps that grew on top of it.

AI will be no different.

Where AI Meets People

AI is getting smarter faster, and this will continue. But to change how people live, it must answer: where, how and into whose hands does this intelligence reach? This will define AI’s next chapter.

AI no longer merely answers. It is entering an agentic age, taking action on our behalf while the person carries the final decision. But to act for someone, it must first know them.

That is why it matters where AI meets people. The entry points are where AI understands a person and builds trust. The best AI experiences will come from the devices that know the user best.

This is what Samsung has spent years building. The phone is closest to us, with us daily. The tablet is where we create and learn. The watch reads signals like sleep and heart rate. The TV and connected home appliances add context from where we live. And new form factors, from foldables to intelligent eyewear, expand where AI meets us. Together, a fuller picture of a person’s needs forms.

These entry points are powerful together. Signals from across devices become timely assistance: sleep tracked by your watch shapes tomorrow’s schedule, with information always available. AI at its best works quietly in the background, bringing these moments into a cohesive experience. That is why we have spent years building an ecosystem not just to reach, but to connect more moments.

Built on Openness and Trust

Samsung does not do this alone. The platforms that changed the world were the most open. The web was. So were mobile operating systems. With SmartThings, we brought devices, services and partners into one connected experience, shaping industry open standards. Openness lets the best ideas reach people faster. And we don’t simply layer intelligence on top, but design how AI works at the center so it serves each person in context.

But openness alone is not the goal. The harder task is turning intelligence into something personal and trustworthy. The best intelligence in the world should reach people through their everyday devices. But what makes it personal is understanding the user and keeping that understanding safe. That is our responsibility.

As AI becomes more personal and agentic, trust becomes the foundation. People need to know what AI is doing for them and remain in control.

This is why trust isn’t added at the end. Samsung Knox protects each Galaxy device and now the connections between them. As intelligence moves across devices, protecting what flows between them is crucial. The most personal data stays on the device so people can understand how AI is working and remain in control.

The Next Chapter of Galaxy

That same understanding shapes the devices we build. The more personal and capable AI becomes, the more form matters. As AI helps us with more at once, a screen that flexes and folds expands what is possible. This is what makes foldables special: they fold into your hand or open a larger stage. On this journey, Samsung has continued to make foldables thinner, lighter, stronger and more immersive.

AI is also essential in health. How we sleep, recover and look after ourselves — daily choices add up. A device close to us, like a watch, tracks these signals ensuring a better day.

The upcoming Galaxy Unpacked is where we will show what’s next in bringing all this together: more personal, natural AI experiences on a foundation more partners can build on. The question that opens the next era is not who has the smartest AI, but who understands people best, and turns that understanding into experiences they can trust.

We intend to take this path with openness and responsibility, beginning with the device already in your hand. We open this next chapter together at Galaxy Unpacked.
