Creating new customer journeys

The past two years have also spurred us to rethink how we can serve our customers better, while making our devices and services more accessible. COVID-19 has accelerated e-commerce growth, making online shopping a necessity. Meanwhile, the increasingly global outlook and entrenched social sharing habits of consumers have spurred our foray into new brand and retail experiences.

To that end, we have doubled down on efforts to expand and improve our retail channels and experiences. Today, our devices can be experienced and purchased directly from Samsung online stores, through online shopping partners, and even live commerce channels.

We have also invested in new and immersive ways for customers to experience our products online and offline. For example, we have launched augmented reality capabilities to better imagine how our home appliances can fit into homes. This will provide consumers the confidence to purchase our products online and help home owners who have visited our retail showrooms with space planning.

Empowering our younger generation

Recognizing the importance of youth in the Southeast Asia & Oceania (SEAO), which is home to more than half of the world’s young people¹, we have furthered our efforts in understanding and catering to their values, aspirations and needs. Being digital natives who grew up with the internet, these young people are optimizing connected devices and driving online services to shape the digital economy, both as consumers and innovators.

As a champion of innovation, we want to do more in empowering the next generation through our technologies and initiatives. To achieve this, we are running several programs to provide the necessary tools that help to optimize opportunities for youths, and tap into their collective energies as well as insights to shape our products and services.

For example, our team of Future Generation Lab members, consisting of our young employees, actively develop new enticing marketing content and collaborations to better engage with millennial and Gen Z consumers. We also run the Samsung Innovation Campus, which provides youth with training in information and communications technology skills and soft skills, as well as Solve for Tomorrow, a competition that encourages students to create tangible solutions that can solve societal issues – reaching more than 80,000 students in SEAO in 2021.

The Dishwashers offers homeowners greater convenience, as well as effectively cleans and sanitises homeware.

 
Singapore – 19 July 2022 – Samsung Electronics Singapore has unveiled a new category of home appliances – dishwasher – adding on to Samsung’s existing range of home appliances for cleaner homes.

The launch of the Samsung Dishwashers seeks to elevate the lifestyles of Singaporean households and cultivate the mindset of having an effective dishwasher to help consumers keep their kitchenware hygienic. The Dishwashers also comes with a slew of features that make cleaning a breeze, with smart features that help users monitor, control and personalise their dishwashing experiences[1].
 
The Samsung Dishwashers are available in two models, a Standard model and a Smart model. The latter feature SmartThings connectivity and additional specialist programs for a personalised cleaning experience. Both models offer Hygiene Care, which effectively eliminates 99.999% of bacteria[2] with every wash.

Elevating Lifestyle through Effectiveness and Convenience

The Dishwashers are available as freestanding models, enabling homeowners to retrofit their dishwashers with their cabinets, or as a standalone unit. Homeowners have a choice of classic stainless-steel finish for the Standard model or black matte finish for the Smart model, both equipped with features for effective cleaning and convenience.

The Hygiene Care option enables deeper clean for dirty dishes and other homeware.

  The Dishwashers come with a Hygiene Care option, which extends the final rinse and increases the water temperature to 70˚C, allowing a more thorough clean to eliminate 99.999% of bacteria². This offers consumers a greater peace of mind, ensuring that the dishes are clean and safe for usage.
   

  • Fast and Effective Cleaning and Drying of Your Dishes

  The Samsung Dishwashers boast an innovative Auto Door Open feature, whereby the door will automatically open at the end of the washing cycle to allow a 10cm space for steam to escape so that the items can dry faster, especially for plastic and small items.

   
  For families who are pressed for time, the Smart Dishwasher model comes with an additional feature called Speed Booster. This feature allows consumers to speed up their cleaning cycle and will be ideal for homeowners who need dishes cleaned quickly, especially before or during family gatherings or home parties.
   

  

  The Auto Door Open feature allows steam to dissipate faster, and items to dry quicker and the Speed Booster feature for a faster cleaning cycle.

   

  • Water Saving

  Certified with 3 Ticks under the Mandatory Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme (WELS), homeowners can be assured that the Samsung Dishwasher not only thoroughly cleans, but also helps to save water and costs in the long run.

   

  • Greater Convenience for users

  The interior of the Dishwashers has also been specially designed to help consumers better manage their dishwashing load.
   

  

  The Dishwasher comes with various features to provide a flexible dishwashing experience.

   
  Homeowners will welcome the Soft Railing feature, which utilises a ball bearing rail system that creates less friction. This ensures that the rack slides in and out smoothly with little effort, even with heavier items such as your pots and pans on it. It also minimises the risk of items falling out of the dishwasher as it is also more stable.
   
  With Flex Load, consumers can fit in dishes, glasses and pots or pans of different sizes much more easily and safely with three different settings for the middle rack. The lower rack’s tines can also be adjusted accordingly to fit in larger sized cookware, and a Tumbler Support can safely hold delicate items such as glasses.

   

  What’s more, the Dishwashers also come with the Auto Adjust feature to allow consumers to quickly adjust the middle rack up or down to create more space in the lower rack, allowing kitchenware of various shapes and sizes to be fitted.

   

  Consumers can further optimise the space within the Dishwasher with the Convertible Metal 3^rd Rack, which serves as a dedicated area for their cutlery and kitchenware. With the top rack being detachable, consumers can look to switch up their rack spaces to accommodate various loads for each cleaning cycle, making room for larger kitchenware if needed.

  The Smart Dishwasher model supports SmartThings[3], providing consumers a smarter way to customise their dishwasher. With SmartThings, they can remotely start the cleaning cycle and monitor the status using their smartphone.
   
   

  Consumers can also personalise their cleaning experience further using the Download Program option in the SmartThings app with our four additional specialist programs Extra Silence, Pots and Pans, Plastic Kitchenware and Baby Care.
   

   

  These options allow consumers to further optimise their dishwasher to suit the various loads they are looking to clean. The Extra Silence program provides a quieter wash, the Pots and Pans program helps to clean dirty cookware without pre-rinsing, the Plastic Kitchenware program minimising the risk of plastic items warping and lastly the Baby Care program suitable for washing their babies’ feeding bottles, cutlery and dishes.

Samsung Singapore is bringing the beauty of Singapore’s nights to life this July with a curated exhibition featuring snaps captured #withGalaxy at Sleepless in SG, which will be held at ION Art Gallery at ION Orchard from 8 to 22 July 2022.

The exhibition features a collection of over 70 photos from local photographers, content creators as well as user submitted entries to bring a different perspective of Singapore.

“For many of us, nights are precious for us to connect with our loved ones and recharge after a long day at work. But for others, nights bring about a new energy where they can uncover or be reinvigorated by new experiences.

With Sleepless in SG, we hope to show Singaporeans a different perspective of nightlife from the lens of photographers and creators using our Galaxy S22 Series 5G smartphone, where our popular Nightography has enabled many the ability to capture action in lowlight like never before,” said Sarah Chua, Vice President of Mobile eXperience, Samsung Electronics Singapore.

Experiencing Sleepless in SG through the lens of Singapore-based visual creators and Galaxy S22 Series 5G devices

As part of the campaign, renowned commercial Singapore photographer Geoff Ang, along with Kevin Ong (@kevouthere), Mindy Tan (@mindytanphoto) and Qi Hao (@qhventures) have curated a series of shots capturing Singapore at its finest and darkest.

“Singapore at night has always been a special place for me – the colours, sights, and sounds are where the island-city is at its most vibrant. I’m honoured to be able to capture amazing night scenes with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G, which I was originally hesitant about given my purist approach with photography. Given the compact nature of the device, I was able to frame shots from any angle, and take pictures where I could never do with a conventional photography set-up,” Geoff Ang shared.

Kevin, Mindy and Qi Hao have each captured Singapore at night in different perspectives. Their photos hope to invoke a sense of curiosity and wonder of the island-city, especially during the darkest moments in the evening.

The Galaxy S22 Series 5G boasts amazing Nightography feature, powered by a larger sensor and Adaptive Pixel technology. This means that the camera of the smartphone is able to let in more light, draw out more details and capture more colours so that photos pop – even in the dark.

Visitors can expect an interactive experience at ION Art Gallery besides viewing the works from the photographers. They can also vote for their favourite Sleepless in SG shots that have been shortlisted from over 300 entries collected in June, where the top three most-voted entries will walk away with The Freestyle – All in one (Smart TV – Projector – Speaker) by Samsung worth $1,499.

In addition, selected participants* can look forward to Nightography Masterclasses conducted by Geoff Ang on 9 and 10 July, from 7pm to 9pm, where he will share his experience as well as tips and tricks on capturing photos in low light with the Galaxy S22 series 5G devices.

There will also be local live music acts who will also be at the event on 9, 16 and 17 July, to set the mood for an experience at Sleepless in SG.

Through this annual competition, students also gain invaluable skills in teamwork, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, preparing them for the future workforce.

In Southeast Asia and Oceania, over 6,500 entries were received for Solve for Tomorrow 2021 programs that ran across Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam. Over the past year, the overall program has reached more than 80,000 individuals, spreading the culture of innovation and creativity among schools and communities throughout the region.

We spotlight the young winners from across the region, and the outstanding innovations they have created to drive real, positive impact.

Singapore

Singapore’s fifth instalment of Solve For Tomorrow challenged post-secondary and university students to address key issues under the themes of ‘Environmental Sustainability’, ‘Digital Inclusion for Seniors’, ‘Health & Wellness’, and ‘Preparing for the Future of Work’.

Team MNKS x CO2, the winner of the post-secondary category, comprised of Mohammed Khambhati, Ti Kyi Kyaw, Keeret Singh, and Toh Siew Hean from Singapore Polytechnic. To address climate change, they conceptualized a biofilter for vehicles with a biofilm made of genetically modified E. coli bacteria that converts environmentally harmful carbon dioxide emissions into oxygen.

Representing the University Category, Team Adustio developed ​a two-part, sustainable solar energy system. Members Alyssa Cheok and Yuan Hai Shuai first designed an organic solar battery made from biodegradable seaweed carrageenan, with properties that maximize battery efficiency while reducing toxic waste. This organic battery was then paired with sensors and a mobile app, which would automatically tilt solar panels in response to the sun’s changing position throughout the day to better harness solar energy.

Australia

For the 2021 edition of Solve for Tomorrow in Australia, students were encouraged to create fun TikTok videos that presented social issues of personal relevance while highlighting STEM-based solutions.

Tasmania-based Meg Phillips emerged as the overall winner, driven by her passion for animal conservation. Tapping on her experience at an engineering internship, she created an RFID-based system to warn animals of approaching cars. Known as the ‘Roadkill Reducer’, an alarm is sounded whenever animals are near roadsides or when a car is nearby. Her innovative solution utilises existing RFID technology and requires minimal infrastructure, making it a practical system with the potential to reduce both wildlife casualties and keep drivers safe.

Malaysia

Malaysia’s Solve For Tomorrow competition in 2021 focused on the themes of ‘Environmental Sustainability’ and ‘Access to Education’. Student participants also attended a Design Thinking workshop, co-organized with Universiti Malaya’s STEM Centre, to develop creativity, empathy, ideation, and problem-solving skills.

Winning Team “TAZ” developed an app that connects Malaysian students around the country with study buddies of similar interests, to teach each other subjects through games and equip them with time management tips. The team of three students: Tan Zhang Li, Adam Sim, and Zachary Sim from St. Francis Institution, Malacca, also developed the app to help more students nationwide gain affordable access to a wider range of learning materials. New Zealand

2021 marked the first time Solve for Tomorrow was held in New Zealand. The theme of ‘Arts’ was included as a key judging criterion for the competition. Two co-winners were crowned in the inaugural competition, successfully applying Science, Technology, English, Arts, or Math (STEAM) skills to solve their chosen challenges.

Drew Kenny, a twelve-year-old Year 7 student from Tauranga Intermediate School, created a “Parkinson’s Belt” to provide people suffering from Parkinsons’ disease with quick access to medication, water, and their support alarm. With a clear focus on patient-centred design, Drew incorporated feedback from Parkinson’s patients to help make key decisions – like utilising comfortable neoprene material for the belt and designing the ideal positioning of various belt features for maximum convenience. Fifteen-year-old Harrison Maxwell, a Year 10 Rangitoto College student, leveraged the potential of unused roadside grass (also known as berms) with his “Beautify the Berms” project. He proposed planting beautiful fauna in berms to help strengthen ecosystems for local wildlife such as pollinators, while uniting communities in a combined effort to minimise long-term maintenance costs. Harrison further proposed several low-maintenance, hardy flower species that enabled berms to remain beautiful ecosystems all year round. View his entry below:

Vietnam

In Vietnam, the Eco Warriors team from Hanoi won the High School Category with their specially designed mask-recycling machine to mitigate waste created from the widespread use of plastic masks during the pandemic. By melting and remoulding the plastic, the team demonstrated that a plastic pot could be created from recycling 10 masks in just one and a half minutes. The team also showcased their prototype at various high schools to spread their passion for the real-world application of STEM skills.

Meanwhile, Team Robo Kat from Dong Thap province won the Secondary School Category with a wall climbing robot car that applied a no-contact-force method to conduct remote inspections of drainage pipes. The wall climbing robot was built to perform dangerous tasks on behalf of humans, such as cleaning, sweeping, measuring and inspecting structures.
