John Archer, Trusted Reviews – April 14th 2026 – Having dipped a (very big) toe into Micro RGB technology waters towards the end of 2025 with an ultra-expensive 115-inch model, Samsung has now followed that up with the much more affordable (though still premium) R95H TV series.

Does the technology still feel as exciting and cutting edge on smaller, more affordable screens? And is the huge colour gamut it’s capable of delivering really worth worrying about?

Price

The 75R95H costs £4299 in the UK, and $4499 in the US. The 65-inch model that’s also available from the range’s launch goes for £3399 and $3199.

This means Samsung is pitching the R95H range below – albeit only slightly – its flagship S99H OLED TVs. Though the closest screen size to the QE75R95H in the S99H range is two inches bigger.

While this shows that Samsung sees its QD OLED TVs as the absolute pinnacle of its TV performance, the still-premium pricing of the R95H series suggests Samsung believes Micro RGB capable of doing some pretty special things.

Design

Slender sides and rear

Centrally mounted stand with floating effect

Anti-reflection screen and Art Store create an artwork effect

The R95H has no truck with the wide frame Samsung added to the S99H OLED series. In fact, both the R95H’s screen frame and rear are exceptionally slim by LCD TV standards.

This makes it a great all hanging option – thoughh it actually ships with a desktop stand. This stand slots without screws into to grooves near the centre of the bottom edge, meaning the TV can be placed on even quite narrow bits of furniture. The neck of this stand wears a mirrored finish that creates the optical illusion that the screen is somehow just hovering above the base plate.

The TV carries well defined and extensive cable channelling on its rear panel to try and stop dangling cables from spoiling the 75R95H’s minimalist chic. Though actually, in a highly unusual move, it’s possible to connect four sources to the TV without any cabling if you add one of Samsung’s new, optional Wireless One Connect boxes to the R95H.

This lets you attach up to four HDMI sources to it, and then broadcasts their pictures and sound wirelessly to the TV from potentially metres away.

One last unusual design feature is the 75R95H’s combination of Samsung’s digital store of digital art screensavers, and an extremely effective anti-reflection screen. Put these together and you can make the TV look like a painting when you’re not watching it.

Connectivity

Wireless One Connect box option

Four gaming-friendly HDMI 2.1 ports as standard

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Airplay 2 support

I’ve already obliquely covered the R95H’s main connection story: Its potential for adding an optional Wireless One Connect Box. This warrants further attention, though, for as well as opening up the potential for cable free connection of up to four external sources to the TV, it also opens up the possibility of the QE75R95H taking in as many as eight HDMI sources at once.

The four HDMI ports built into the R95H’s bodywork and the four on the optional Wireless One Connect box are all fully HDMI 2.1 specified – something I’ll come back to in the Gaming section.

The Wireless One Connect hosts a couple of USB ports too, again doubling the number of those available.

There are also optical digital audio outputs on the TV and Wireless One Connect box, while the TV’s own ‘built in’ wireless capabilities include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and AirPlay 2.

User Experience

Tizen OS smart system

Voice and Gesture control

Two remote controls

The Tizen OS that provides your main interface with the R95H’s smart features is pretty effective. The appearance of the home screen has been improved by shifting the usual roster of sub-menu links from down the side to along the top of the screen, and Samsung has also added a new AI home menu accessed via a direct button now included on the smart remote control.

This AI menu provides manual access to the third-party Co-Pilot and Perplexity AI systems, as well as a Generative AI image creation system that lets you create your own images from a few prompts.

The R95H’s extensive use of AI extends to its support for both the Bixby and Alexa voice recognition systems, and impressively sophisticated tools for coming up with relevant content recommendations based on your viewing habits. This can include the viewing habits of other members of your household, too, thanks to the TV supporting multiple individual user profiles.

Tizen carries a huge array of apps and streaming services, including the individual catch up apps for the UK’s main terrestrial broadcasters. Though there’s no support for Freely ‘wrappers’ carried by some rival brands these days.

The R95H ships with two remote controls: One traditional button-heavy one, and a much more slender affair with a stripped back button count and a solar panel on its rear that means you’ll never have to change its batteries again. This ‘smart’ remote also carries a built-in mic and Samsung’s new AI button when the other remote doesn’t, so all in all I’m confident this smart remote will be the one most users stick with.

The R95H can also be controlled to some extent via gestures if you’re wearing a Samsung Galaxy Watch, or you can add the TV to Samsung’s SmartThings app for iOS and Android devices, and then control it from your phone via a ‘virtual remote’

The sophistication of the R95H’s Tizen OS makes it a little intimidating initially, but after exploring it for a little while you start to appreciate its depths. Its biggest flaw, ultimately, is its desire to get you to accept adverts on the UI. You can opt out of these during the initial install, but if you do the basic layout of the UI remains unchanged, leaving areas where ads might have appeared often feeling like a fairly substantial waste of space.

Features

Micro RGB panel

Local dimming

Dedicated Micro RGB AI processor

The R95H is the second TV Samsung has released to use Micro RGB technology. This new tech, which is set to appear in 2026 from other brands too, under different names such as RGB LED, Mini RGB and True RGB, replaces conventional LCD TV lighting systems, which shine white or blue lights through colour filters, with dedicated red, green and blue LEDs.

This an approach which has the potential to greatly increase colour gamuts, colour volumes (colour plus brightness), power efficiency and general brightness

The Micro RGB lights on the QE75R95H are working within a VA type of panel, backed up by a potent local dimming system. In the QE75R95H’s case this local dimming zone system operates across a commanding 1792 individually controlled LED clusters. On top of this, of course, there’s the extra dimming effect you can get from each red, green and blue LED.

Samsung has created a dedicated Micro RGB AI processing system for its new screen technology to, among other things, drive the backlighting system, deliver high-level upscaling of HD sources, and apply the huge colour gamut the screen can provide to real-world content.

The R95H supports the HDR10, HLG and HDR10+ HDR formats, and will eventually, following a firmware update later this year, support the new HDR10+ Advanced format (designed to take on the recently announced Dolby Vision 2 format) by boosting brightness, cloud gaming, motion and the approach the TV takes to different content genres. As ever with Samsung TVs, the R95H doesn’t support Dolby Vision in either of its formats.

Gaming

Up to 165Hz frame rate support

VRR support including AMD FreeSync

Game Hub source screen and dedicated Game menu screen

The R95H leaves no stone unturned on the gaming front. For starters all four onboard and all optional Wireless One Connect HDMI ports support high frame rates for gaming up to 165Hz. They also all support variable refresh rates right across its frame rate range, with the VRR support encompassing the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro format.

Auto low latency support enables the R95H to automatically switch to its Game mode, in which mode the time the screen takes to render graphics drops to 10.4ms. Slightly higher than the S99H OLED, but not by enough for even the most competitive gamer to notice.

Where lag might become an issue, though, is if you’ve connected your console or PC to one of the HDMI inputs on an optional Wireless One Connect Box. The wireless transmission process associated with these boxes adds just under 20ms extra lag time.

The R95H helpfully organises all of your game sources, be they connected by HDMI or streamed via the many cloud gaming services Samsung support, onto a dedicated Game Hub home screen within the Tizen OS GUI, and also calls up a dedicated gaming menu if you press and hold the play button on the remote while playing a game.

This menu provides detailed information on the incoming gaming feed, and provides a host of cheats – sorry, gaming aids – such as mini map zooming, brightening dark areas so enemies are easier to spot, calling up an onscreen crosshair, and calling in different levels of motion smoothing for those (increasingly rare) occasions where you find yourself playing a low frame rate game.

As a tasty prelude to the video picture quality we’re going to cover in the next section, gaming on the Samsung R95H is a mostly a fantastically fun but also seriously immersive experience. The huge colour vibrancy the Micro RGB screen can achieve (I measured almost 150% of the DCI-P3 colour spectrum) together with brightness that hits peaks as high as around 2200 nits, results in colours that explode off the screen, making titles as varied as Crimson Desert, Forza Horizon and Rayman Legends look radiantly engaging to a degree they’ve seldom looked before.

HDR titles are handled well, with the screen doing a good job of optimising game HDR engines to its capabilities without the results looking clipped or unstable, and gaming feels responsive via the TV’s built-in HDMI ports.

My only gripes with gaming are that blooming around stand-out bright objects seems a little more noticeable if you’re sat off to the side of the screen than it does with video, and that fast pans and rapidly moving objects can look a touch soft compared with the S99H. Though they do look equally fluid.

Picture Quality

Remarkable colour range

High brightness

Excellent backlight controls

While we’ve become pretty accustomed now to TVs that push brightness far beyond the levels commonly used by content creators, doing the same thing for colour is for me much more noticeable – and, therefore, trickier to do convincingly.

Samsung’s Micro RGB AI processor, though, makes a remarkably good job of it. Especially considering it’s dealing with such a new technology.

Starting with just how aggressively the R95H leans into Micro RGB’s wider colour gamut capabilities, measurements taken using Portrait Displays’ Calman Ultimate software, G1 signal generator and C6 HDR5000 light meter reveal that the screen can deliver essentially 150% of the DCI-P3 colour range. An unprecedented figure that at least some of Samsung’s picture presets seek to venture into when showing today’s more constrained HDR images.

The Dynamic preset really goes for it, and is worth checking out for the fullest evidence of the sort of spectacle Samsung’s TV can deliver. While this mode is surprisingly even-handed in how it expands colours across the spectrum, and how little noise it suffers with compared with some rival similar modes I’ve seen on some early Micro RGB/Mini RGB samples, it still looks forced sometimes, particularly when it comes to skin tones.

The Standard preset, while certainly not measuring accurately, is for the most part a joy to watch. I watched multiple favourite 4K Blu-ray test discs in this default mode (having turned off the interfering Eco and ambient sensor-related modes) and for most of the time was both dazzled by seeing such familiar titles looking like they’d been remastered in some new next-gen HDR format, and amazed at how well this ‘expansion’ of their native images had been achieved.

Especially when it came to avoiding such potentially distracting nasties as exaggerated colour noise, certain tones suddenly jumping out of the picture more than others, and saturations so extreme that the screen is no longer able to express the sort of subtle colour blends required to make objects feel three-dimensional and natural.

Just as importantly as the spectacular but surprisingly authentic feeling colours to the Standard mode’s appeal is the prowess of the Samsung R95H’s backlight system. The more than 1700 local dimming zones in the QE75R95H’s screen together with the extra light control created by using separate red, green and blue LEDs for each lighting ‘unit’ creates light control mechanics which, under the watchful eye of Samsung’s dedicated Micro RGB processor, deliver both fantastically deep black colours by LCD TV standards, but also impressive stability and freedom from either general clouding and backlight blooming around stand-out bright objects.

What’s more, even when a little blooming can occur around extremely bright, colourful objects, unlike normal LED TVs the blooming actually adopts the chief colour tone of the ‘offending’ object. This makes it much less noticeable than the usual grey blooming effect, as your eye more often than not perceives the bloom as natural colour radiance.

Making the capabilities of the backlight controls even more impressive is the fact that the R95H can deliver its deep black colours and clean local dimming effects despite it also being extremely bright.

Calman Ultimate tests reveal brightness peaks of nearly 2300 nits on 10% and more than 660 nits on full 100% light windows, which contributes to an outstanding HDR sensation in terms of baseline brightness and the intensity of classic HDR highlights like sunlight reflecting on glass or metal, or bright streetlights against a night sky.

This impressive brightness doesn’t remotely start to overwhelm the screen’s huge colour capabilities. In fact, far from any tones looking faded or pallid in bright areas, the screen delivers huge levels of colour volume that complete the sense that RGB TVs are in a world of their own where colour is concerned.

Exciting though all of this is, many home cinema fans will still want the QE75R95H to be able to handle movies in a much more ‘as the director intended’ fashion as well, at least for serious film nights.

As with its S99H OLED flagships, Samsung has again managed to cater for this need much more successfully than we might have expected given the extravagant capabilities of the R95H’s screen. Right out of the box, the Filmmaker Mode achieves DeltaE 2000 average measurements with every Calman Ultimate HDR test I tried it with bar one below the 3.0 level beyond which deviations from industry standards might potentially be visible to the human eye. And even on that one test where it strays further than three, it only does so by a half mark.

Filmmaker Mode images inevitably look much less bright and much less vibrant than Standard mode, simply because sticking to today’s common mastering standards means using much less of what the screen can do. But this is as it should be – and the demands of switching into accurate settings don’t cause subjective viewing issues such as pale colour tones, heavily reduced backlight controls or poor dynamic peaking of bright light sources.

The R95H delivers SDR content in the Standard mode with just as much measurable and subjectively enjoyable precision, while again managing to drastically open SDR up in terms of brightness and colour in the Standard mode – and/or when using a pretty effective SDR to HDR conversion option – without the results looking gaudy.

Inevitably the R95H isn’t perfect. Sometimes the mostly excellent Standard mode can push skin tones, especially in dark scenes, too much, that they look too ripe. A slight pinkish tone can sometimes appear over bright shots in Standard mode too, and very occasionally subtle colour differences, especially over misty backgrounds, can become too overt.

Blooming around bright objects, while disguised by its colour component versus regular LED TVs, is present in a way it isn’t with OLED, and becomes slightly more noticeable if you’re watching the TV from an angle. The Standard mode can sometimes exhibit obvious baseline brightness ‘jumps’ during hard cuts between dark and light shots.

Motion looks slightly softer than it does on Samsung’s regular premium LCD TVs, as well as looking too smooth and noisy if you leave the Standard present’s default Picture Clarity settings in play.

Finally, while for the majority of the time I think most viewers in typical home viewing conditions will love the way the R95H’s anti-glare filter suppresses basically all reflections, it can flatten black levels a little in really extreme bright ambient light.

Upscaling

Well controlled processing side effects

Impressive, 4K-like sharpness and detail

Good noise suppression

The potent, heavily AI-influenced processors in Samsung’s premium TVs over the past few years have consistently delivered some of the best upscaling around – a handy benefit, I suspect, of Samsung’s longer devotion to the 8K TV cause than any other brand.

This trend continues with the Micro RGB AI processor, happily, as the R95H turns HD and even SD into convincing 4K look-a-like territory when it comes to detailing and clarity, without exaggerating source noise or grain, or generating distracting side effects such as colour shift or haloing around hard object edges.

The fact that the upscaling holds up well on a screen as big as 75-inches underlines how effective Samsung’s processing is, too.

Sound Quality

Object Tracking Sound works well

Good power and soundstage creation

Can struggle with sustained deep bass

For most of the time the R95H sounds good. Despite its slender bodywork, for starters, it manages to produce impressive volume levels capable of satisfying pretty substantial rooms. Especially as the sound is projected well beyond the TV’s physical extremities, creating a soundstage larger than even the 75-inch screen.

This large soundstage is exceptionally coherent, too, thanks to the ear-catching efforts of Samsung’s Object Tracking Sound system. Combining clever audio processing with a multi-speaker set up that places speakers all around the screen, OTS does a remarkably accurate job of placing key effects in the right place.

This applies to everything from dialogue to gunfire and engine noise from moving vehicles, and the number of objects that the OTS engine is capable of handling in any given scene is remarkable.

There’s a lovely crisp, clean but also rounded quality to the QE75R95H’s detailing, and shrill trebles sound controlled, even and free of warbling or buzzing distortions.

The R95H doesn’t quite hold it together at the low frequency end of the sound spectrum, though. Short, impactful bass sounds hit fine, but where there are longer, really deep and pressurised rumbles to handle the pair of dedicated low frequency speakers can descend into various distortions, including buzzing noise, crackling, and a general coarsening of the low frequency sound as the speakers try to push beyond what they’re really capable of achieving.

Final Thoughts

With the QE75R95H Samsung has not only proven that Micro RGB and similar technology is relevant even in a world where content doesn’t yet exist that could fully unlock its capabilities, it’s delivered a TV that also breaks new ground with its LCD backlight control and AI features.

And which does things in the colour department that even Samsung’s S99H OLED can’t but that’s not to say you should necessarily buy it over the S99H. There are also areas, inevitably, where the pixel-level light control of OLED remains unmatched.

But the fact that the 75R95H even stands as a credible alternative to a TV as brilliant as the S99H is an outstanding achievement for such a new technology.

I’ve spent years witnessing technology change the way people live their lives. The way we work, connect and make decisions is entirely different from a generation ago; but until recently, eating routines, movement, and rest have largely been unchanged.

Technology today, in particular the rise of wearables, is now helping us also become aware of our health and track many elements of it. Everything from when to sleep and exercise and even what to eat. We’re at the dawn of truly predictive, personalised health intelligence.

This seismic shift is where every mouthful of food, every step taken, every wink of sleep is not just a mundane choice, but an act of self-care. Where technology moves from passive companion to active guardian – anticipating our needs and nudging us towards our goals.

What’s more, younger generations are running away from unhealthy choices. Recent data suggests run clubs have seen a 59% increase in global participation in 2024[1], with people making friendships, and one in five of them resulting in a date. Health technology is not a passing fad or trend but something that is accelerating every day and making a real difference to people’s well-being.

This week, at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, we announced new Samsung Health features[2] to help improve sleep, heart health, fitness, and nutrition. These new features are designed to help empower our consumers to lead healthier lives through proactive care and holistic health management.

My colleague Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, Mobile eXperience, talks about how sleep is the cornerstone of our approach to health, as it influences physical and mental well-being, social relationships, and even work performance.

Picture waking up, like many of us do, and checking your watch or ring. Instead of telling you how you slept, it guides your next choices by telling you “here’s why you slept well, and here’s what to do next”, or flagging any potential sleep issues.

The next frontier is preventative health, where technology doesn’t just monitor our wellbeing, it helps shape it. It’s happening all around us now, thanks to a seismic cultural shift which at Samsung, we are adapting to quickly.

A groundbreaking new Galaxy Watch feature we announced this week will measure vascular load[3], the amount of stress on your vascular system while sleeping. The vascular system carries blood throughout the body to deliver oxygen and nutrients and remove waste, making it a strong indicator to determine good heart health.

I also spoke this week about our new Antioxidant Index[4] – an industry first feature to measure carotenoids. Antioxidants are the nutrients found in many healthy foods, which help prevent chronic illnesses and promote healthy ageing. Importantly, antioxidants neutralise free radicals, which damage cells and accelerate aging. Behavioural factors, such as drinking alcohol, smoking, UV exposure, stress and lack of sleep, can accelerate aging by increasing free radicals in the body.

You will be able to use your Galaxy Watch and its advanced, light-activated BioActive sensor to measure carotenoids in just five seconds, which are antioxidants found in green and orange vegetables and fruits, stored in your skin.

You’ll quickly see how these insights reflect behavioural changes. For example, drinking carrot juice can show changes in the index. This transforms abstract nutrition into measurable outcomes that drive sustained healthy behaviours.

So, as we look ahead to the future of health tech, one thing is becoming undeniably clear: health will become the filter through which we make every choice. Not just the big decisions, like how we treat illness or manage fitness, but the small, everyday ones. What we watch. What we eat. What we buy. Because soon, the data will be right there with us, moment by moment, guiding us toward what our bodies and minds actually need.

And in that world, brands will have a new kind of responsibility. It won’t be enough to be relevant by trend or preference. Brands will need to prove their role in supporting people’s well-being—in showing how they truly fit into a better, healthier life.

That’s where we’re headed. We will continue to be more intentional with our health tech innovation. It will be deeply human focused, rooted in biology, mood, need, and real-time context.

At Samsung, we’re not just creating products that cut through the noise. We’re creating technology that cares. Because in the end, the greatest innovation isn’t in what we build, but in how we help people truly thrive.

Annika Bizon, Mobile Experience VP of Product & Marketing, Samsung UK&I.

Q) Thanks for joining us today, Deborah, can you tell us why Safer Internet Day is such an important day to mark for Samsung, and what it means to you personally?

Days like Safer Internet Day are really crucial to help give all parents and guardians a platform to continue to talk openly about helping our children stay safe online and also share their experiences in how to achieve this. This is an ongoing area of focus for us, but marked days are vital for growing awareness on important topics. As a parent with a young son, my priority is his safety, both off and online. As he gets older and learns how to navigate the online world, it’s important that I can help equip him to be confident, secure and knowledgeable when accessing new technologies.

Q) What is Samsung’s role, as a device manufacturer, in helping combat the growing issue of keeping young people safe online?

We have a shared responsibility with all invested stakeholders to help combat this problem. We are now in our eighth year of supporting Safer Internet Day and have partnered with Internet Matters since 2019, creating vital resources to help parents and children. We need to keep these relationships strong and work together on projects that shine a light on online safety. This won’t be solved by any one organisation or campaign alone. We must collaborate to help inspire and enable parents and guardians to keep having the most important of conversations with their children, especially as we see how prevalent social media is in today’s society.

We want all families who use our devices and services to be able to understand the tools and resources available to them, helping them to set positive boundaries and measures they feel can be effective. We often say that our kids appear more tech-savvy than we are, but learning together can really help everyone in the family dynamic to understand the importance and dangers of online safety.

Q) Internet Matters does a huge amount of work on this issue, how important is this partnership to Samsung?

It really is critical to work alongside incredible organisations like Internet Matters and try to tackle the online safety issue collaboratively. For example, in 2023, we launched the ‘Online Together Project’ with Internet Matters, where we designed a teaching module tool to educate on key topics such as online hate, giving families practical advice and encouraging more open conversations between parents and children. We are proud of the resources created and we wanted to highlight that this type of conversation should always be a two-way, open dialogue.

I certainly want my son to be able to have those conversations with me and share his views so we can set boundaries together, talk about safety and security openly, and develop a better way forward that builds trust and honesty as he gets older and inevitably has more access to the online world.

Our work with Internet Matters has been critical to enhancing our own understanding of how we should not only collectively work together but also how we face into this issue as a manufacturer that has a responsibility to ensure its product features reflect the needs of parents and guardians. When they take that first step of introducing their children to new technology and the internet, we hope to enable them to do so armed with as much knowledge and expertise as we can provide. We design our products with safety and security as a critical priority and we take pride in that.

Q) What plans do Samsung have to mark Safer Internet Day this year?

I think it’s important to say that we have made a huge amount of progress already – from a device manufacturer perspective, we want to listen to our customers on this issue and address their concerns. You will all be aware over the last year that there has been an increased focus on this issue from key stakeholders – the Government, media and online safety parent campaigners – to champion the need to do more and push more on this issue, and we have taken part in many constructive debates and discussions.

We’re doing this by using our communication channels to help raise awareness on the parental controls and safety settings available across Samsung’s products. We are also providing free online safety resources for teachers to use in schools through our Solve for Tomorrow Next Gen programme. Next Gen this year is aimed at 11-15 year olds, focusing on AI for secondary school teachers to help students explore the benefits and challenges of AI and better understand how to use AI responsibly.

This year, we are also raising awareness of Safer Internet Day and the existing Samsung tools & resources available to our customers through our brand and marketing channels, in-store and on the large format Piccadilly Lights digital screen in London. We encourage people to check out our latest online safety guides and videos available on Samsung.com that will address the need for better and more simpler education for parents, guardians and young children.

We are also inviting people to register for our ‘Let’s Talk Online Safety’ Panel discussion event on the 18th March, hosted at Samsung KX, to continue the momentum and conversation beyond tomorrow. One of our brilliant ambassadors, Fearne Cotton, will be holding a panel discussion where we will be exploring the challenges that we know young people face online and the role we can all play in supporting them.

Q) Finally Deborah, what is your message to our customers about our future ambitions to help tackle this issue?

I think we have to understand that the work should never be done. We know that this is a critical moment in time where this issue has never been more important in the eyes of so many people. We are open to working with the Government, our partners and stakeholders, through our role within our Tech UK industry body, on initiatives that will really engage customers and have the reach and impact that creates meaningful conversations.

We champion and encourage these conversations all year-round through our interactions with our customers, but also crucially through our educational initiatives, encouraging early conversations about responsible use of technology. It really is a long-term journey that we’re committed to, but there is still a lot work ahead of us, to help tackle online safety successfully.

To attend our ‘Let’s Talk Online Safety’ Panel Event at Samsung KX, on Tuesday 18th March at 5.30pm, please register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lets-talk-online-safety-hosted-by-fearne-cotton-tickets-1234746994499?aff=oddtdtcreator

With over 25 years of experience in the medical field and now as Head of Digital Health team at Samsung Electronics, I spend a lot of time contemplating how technology can truly drive progress in healthcare, rather than being just another innovation for innovation’s sake. That’s why I’m very excited about AI as it offers new ways to address many of society’s health problems by simplifying complexity and at scale.

In our ongoing work to reimagine healthcare, Samsung is leveraging advanced AI algorithms and extensive technical expertise to develop solutions like Energy Score. This feature quantifies physical and mental energy levels through multiple health indicators including sleep, heart health and physical activity[1]. Our vision is to include more comprehensive metrics like nutrition, mental health, and additional mobile usage patterns to provide a holistic view of users’ health status, powered by AI.

AI holds great promise for early disease prevention through analysing patterns and behaviors, detecting abnormalities, and even predicting potential health issues. By combining our long-standing sensor innovations with AI leadership, we aim to elevate our capabilities in preventing diseases, beyond sleep apnea and expanding to cardio-metabolic conditions. In particular, blood glucose is a big area of focus for us, and Samsung has been working to develop a sensor algorithm that predicts early signs of diabetes – along with non-invasive blood glucose monitoring technology and continuous glucose monitoring-integrated nutrition coaching.

Our goal is to support proactive health management, lowering healthcare burdens on individuals, families and communities at large. I strongly believe that AI will revolutionise the digital health industry and simplify the wellness journey for everyone. As a global tech leader, Samsung is uniquely equipped to make this a reality with our mix of technology innovations and a growing ecosystem of partners.

[1] Intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. Not intended for use in detection, diagnosis, treatment of any medical condition or disease. The measurements are for your personal reference only. Please consult a medical professional for advice.

We are at the beginning of one of the most exciting and historic moments in technology. The era of mobile AI is here – which for Samsung arrived with the introduction of Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy S24 series, our first AI phone.

Revolutionising Mobile Experiences with a Hybrid AI Approach

To bring the real-life benefits of generative AI technology to the Galaxy S24 series, we took a hybrid approach to our AI integration. AI offers so many possibilities, and we believe mobile devices are the primary access point for unlocking its potential as users around the globe continue to rely on their phones for most of their day-to-day needs.

The essential role that mobile devices play in everyday life means they are very personal items that people use during many critical and memorable moments. We understand these behaviours and believe smartphones should work harder so that users can truly make the most of important moments in a simpler, more intuitive, and more epic way. We also recognise the importance of privacy which is why we give users full control over what they share and what they keep private.

We believe our hybrid approach is the most practical and reliable solution to meet all these needs and puts Samsung ahead of the curve. We are providing users with a balance between the instant responsiveness and extra privacy assurance of on-device AI, and the versatility of cloud-based AI through open collaborations with industry-leading partners in offering a variety of functions they need for daily life.

Expanding Possibilities with On-device AI

We made the ‘Live Translate’ feature on-device AI-based, because voice calls are the most basic feature of a smartphone, yet also an intimate and private means of communication. Samsung has committed to empowering users to communicate without language barriers, while at the same time ensuring every communication is safe and private.

To make this feature a reality, our R&D team worked day and night as part of a collaborative process that truly brought out the best in our teams. From determining the right size of AI language models, to training and testing in real-life scenarios, our R&D organisations within the MX business challenged themselves and pushed beyond the limits of what we thought was possible to get this feature running entirely on-device.

Samsung’s global R&D networks around the world, which are in charge of growing the best talents and developing core technologies in each region, have also played a pivotal role. Samsung Research Centres around the globe, including Poland, China, India and Vietnam have dedicated themselves to developing and expanding the languages supported by Galaxy AI. Languages are very cultural, contemporary, and localised so to help people break down language barriers and communicate more naturally, the role of our local R&D offices is even more crucial in opening up new possibilities for users in more regions than ever before.

All these efforts have enabled Samsung to offer something completely new which I’m excited to share. Soon, Samsung is extending the power of Galaxy AI beyond Samsung’s own native calling app by expanding Live Translate to other third-party message apps to support voice calls. So you can stay in contact with friends or colleagues, communicating on your favourite apps in multiple languages.

And since this feature has been integrated into our on-device AI language translation model, users will be able to experience barrier-free communication without worrying about privacy issues like personal data being shared outside their phone when using Live Translate.

I expect that more and more mobile AI features will be incorporated inside mobile devices as the intelligent computing power of the latest chips – particularly NPUs – advances at a blazing-fast speed, along with other technologies. This will enable more people to embrace AI and make every day more convenient while offering greater peace of mind.

Growing Galaxy AI for Tomorrow’s Needs, Today

This exciting news is all part of the extension of our commitment to Galaxy AI and entering the next phase of the mobile AI era. The introduction of Galaxy AI on Galaxy S24 series was only the start. To deliver a completely new and unique AI experience, we will further optimise the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices. Our foldables are the most versatile and flexible form factor in Samsung Galaxy and when combined with Galaxy AI, these two complementary technologies will together unlock all new possibilities.

Samsung is also committed to expanding Galaxy AI experiences across the broader Galaxy ecosystem in a way that only Samsung can. As the mobile AI era moves forward at a rapid pace, Samsung is accelerating mobile AI innovations to meet the needs of not only today, but tomorrow.

Today, more than ever, people are defining their own wellness goals. From looking to stay fit or gaining more muscle mass, achieving better sleep, or caring for personal or family physical and mental health issues, everyone’s goals for better health look different. But one thing is common, the daily management and path towards these goals can be complicated and challenging, and most importantly, it is defined by you.

That’s why at Samsung, we’re working to empower more people to manage their health – and those they care for – their way, with a comprehensive, yet simplified approach to everyday wellness. Our vision is to improve the health of billions through connected care centered around the home by connecting devices, services and people – like only Samsung can.

Simplifying Wellness by Uniting Scattered Health Data

One of the biggest challenges the healthcare industry is facing today is fragmented data and how to bring it all together. Samsung is uniquely positioned to undertake this with one of the largest, most diverse connected device ecosystems. Now with Samsung Health, we’re connecting different devices and partner solutions within one cohesive platform, making it simpler to track health conditions on a Galaxy wearable.

By collecting data through advanced sensor technology, you’ll receive a deeper, more holistic understanding of your health with improved insights and integrated third party health data. And as always, your personal data on the Galaxy devices remains secure thanks to the Samsung Knox security platform.

Turning Data into Meaningful Insights with the Transformative Power of AI

Like any good data model, how you leverage the information is key. In this new mobile era of AI, Samsung is focused on remaining at the forefront of maximising information. With the intelligence of AI, the most transformative technology of the century, users will receive more personalised insights and tailored health experiences through Samsung Health’s extensive global dataset from 64M monthly active users. And while every user’s wellness journey is unique, we believe they all start in the same way – by gaining a deeper understanding of their health through more comprehensive insights, spanning the longest time possible.

This is why we’ve continued to build a portfolio of tools that help track their health conveniently, continuously and accurately. This approach comes to life in our wearables portfolio with upcoming features like My Vitality Score[1] and Booster Card[2], combining more data with new intelligent analysis to deliver even more personalised and actionable guidance day and night.

Bringing it all to Life Starting with a Good Night’s Sleep

With more data and greater intelligence, users will receive even more insights for preventative wellness end-to-end solutions, starting with sleep. We’ve developed a variety of features that offer users a deeper understanding of their sleep quality and other aspects of their health during sleep. For example, the sleep apnea feature, which recently received De Novo clearance from US FDA, will detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea – and often undiagnosed and untreated – chronic medical condition, so they can address it with their healthcare provider.

This is just the beginning. We’re working with partners to connect these capabilities to real world solutions and services that expand access to healthcare in the home. For instance, you can create a more optimal sleep environment with a smart mattress that can fine-tune the ideal sleep temperatures for rest.

The Future of Wellness is at Your Fingers

Samsung recognises that gaining a deep understanding of one’s personal health can result in significant long-term wellness benefits for our users. As we look to deliver on our vision of providing users with a comprehensive yet simplified approach to everyday wellness, we realise choice is a big factor. Obtaining accurate, detailed and advanced information on personal health conditions is the foundation of helping better track and action change.

Mobile devices will become the primary access point for AI, and through Samsung Galaxy – with our broad and comprehensive product portfolio, heritage of innovation, and philosophy of open collaboration – we’re well positioned to accelerate its global expansion. That’s why we’re thrilled to be introducing Samsung Galaxy Ring later this year – bringing Samsung’s accumulated innovations to the smallest form for comfortable 24/7 wear. As a new addition to our wearables portfolio, Galaxy Ring will offer users an all-new way to simplify everyday wellness, empowering them with greater insights and more ways to understand themselves day and night. With Galaxy Ring, users can embrace an unrivalled experience during every step of their wellness journey, all while being delivered in lockstep with Samsung’s broader vision for a more connected, integrated and seamless digital wellness platform.

Samsung will continue to enrich and expand Galaxy AI experiences across our product categories and collaborations to bring forward mobile experiences that defy imagination. The launch of Galaxy Ring is just one of Samsung’s many initiatives that exemplifies this and delivers on our vision of improving the health and wellness of billions, starting at home, with you. Through the power of intelligence, partnerships and advanced technology, we’re helping more people better understand themselves and make the small changes that have a big impact, every day. With this, the power of Galaxy AI, and many more exciting health and wellness solutions and updates on the horizon, we can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.

Last year, I expanded my responsibilities as head of Samsung’s MX Business, to lead our Corporate Design Center. My career as an engineer taught me that the most sublime designs are intertwined with technological innovation. This new responsibility allows me to delve deeper into how the synergy of design, engineering, and R&D can yield transformative experiences. With my fellow designers, I’ve embarked on a deep exploration of Samsung’s design strategy to understand our roots and envision our growth.

Different Times, Unchanged Commitment

In 1996, Samsung committed to a philosophy: “Inspired by Humans, Creating the Future.” It means our creations are conceived with a deep understanding of you, the user, and we hold an unwavering belief that a user-centric approach is the key to the future.

We feel this even more keenly nearly 30 years on, as we contemplate the fluid nature of human interaction. Users value experiences over mere achievements and meaningful connections over raw technological prowess. We have distilled the Samsung design philosophy into three Design Identities, each one with you at the center: our products must be Essential, Innovative, and Harmonious.

Essential design prioritises clarity of purpose and ease of daily use. Innovative design emphasises originality, reflecting purpose in a new and distinct ways. Harmonious design ensures all elements work together for a holistic purpose, aligning with societal, environmental and ethical values.

Inspired by Humans, Creating the Future

These three Design Identities are exemplified by our latest hardware and software ecosystem.

Take, for instance, the act of folding and unfolding a smartphone. It seems simple. However, that simplicity users feel is only achieved through a rigorous focus on what is most essential and intuitive. The minimal, sleek appearance housing specialised hinge functionality emphasises our commitment and the inherent beauty of essential design.

We’ve raised the standards for foldable smartphone ergonomics. A difference of millimeter in a device’s thickness may not sound like a big change, but every gram and millimeter in a foldable device requires an engineering breakthrough. It demands craftsmanship with passion. When done well, the benefit to users is huge. That’s why we’ve innovated to make our latest foldables slimmer and lighter than our previous generations.

Samsung Galaxy foldable is completed by its users, with its personalised experience. With our Galaxy foldables, your self-expression reaches new levels with, literally, the most flexible camera experience in Samsung Galaxy. You can capture the perfect angle, hands-free. The enhanced multitasking experience like a PC also raises the bar for productivity. You can work, collaborate, or game on-the-go.

Samsung Galaxy Tab and Wearables are designed in the same spirit. They work with each other harmoniously in an ecosystem that opens up a powerful connected experience, serving as a seamless extension of your needs, priorities and unique personality.

Whatever the Samsung Galaxy experience is, when we say, “Inspired by Humans,” we don’t just mean people. We also mean their communities, their environment and their planet. Samsung Galaxy devices are designed with sustainability for the future in mind, because even the smallest actions could contribute to a large impact. When we say, “Creating the Future,” that includes our responsibility today to ensure a sustainable tomorrow for the future generation.

Our Shared Journey to a Better Tomorrow

When design comes together with technological innovation, it brings forth new possibilities. With innovative technologies, people can make the most of today and ultimately create the best possible tomorrow. We invite you to join us at Unpacked, where we’ll pull back the curtain on our latest devices and experiences — inspired by you, created for you.

In a way, they were nearly 30 years in the making, a culmination of decades of human-inspired design. But this is also just the beginning. Seeing the ways our innovations blend into your lives, enabling new possibilities for creativity, productivity or self-expression, will inspire the next steps of our journey. So, let’s navigate this journey together, harnessing design and technology to create a future that truly reflects you.

Mark your calendars for July 26!

We are living in a world that is very complex and changing rapidly.

We now have to navigate uncharted waters where everything is changing – from technology to markets to consumers – and we face additional challenges of the pandemic and uncertainties in the global economy.

As such, the ‘environment’ and the ‘experience’ of how we live has become more important, and our concern for creating a sustainable future has deepened.

As the global leader in consumer electronics and information and communication technologies (ICT), I believe Samsung Electronics has a responsibility to establish an eco-conscious value chain through our innovative technologies and products, as well as to provide more valuable and enlightening experiences to each and every consumer.

That is why Samsung has been focusing all its efforts to recognize sustainable innovation as the essential value and key element in our business.

At CES 2023 in January, Samsung will outline its plan for “Bringing Calm to Our Connected World” by underlining our responsibilities and vision to strive towards this goal and share our journey together for creating a sustainable and prosperous future.

SmartThings: Providing Evolved Hyper-Connected Experiences That Are Invisible Yet Present in Our Lives

At CES 2023, Samsung will present a new and expanded SmartThings experience that integrates your home ecosystem even more seamlessly, with a system that is supported by enhanced security.

We will also explore easier and safer ways to connect devices and appliances, and how to make customized experiences for each user even more precise with AI.

We are closely cooperating with various industry partners to embody the SmartThings experience, creating a new path to provide optimal and customized connected experiences to users according to their individual preferences and lifestyles.

Sustainable Future in the Hyper-Connected Era

In order to provide better daily life experiences, Samsung has been paying attention to how technology can address difficulties and problems encountered in everyday life. In addition, we have continued to identify ways to contribute to creating a more sustainable future by developing products that are sustainable and equipped with innovative technologies.

Since we announced our new environmental strategy in September, we have underlined how we plan to contribute to overcoming the climate crisis through our innovative technologies, including ultra-low power semiconductors and energy saving products. We also announced our goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Saving energy through SmartThings and developing eco-conscious innovative products showcase how we are upholding our sustainable, forward-thinking values.

In addition, we are actively promoting our environmental and societal efforts by participating in sustainable business management partnerships with other stakeholders, such as international organizations, industries and citizens.

We joined the steering committee for the Asia Clean Energy Coalition (ACEC) together with major global companies and NGOs to expand renewable energy supply to its major production bases in Asia.

Furthermore, we joined the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) as a founding member during the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference held in November. Through this organization, we aim to set and implement plans to reduce the overall greenhouse gas emissions of the semiconductor industry, create eco-conscious ecosystems by setting a carbon reduction target, develop greenhouse gas reduction technologies and support green technology startups.

We will continue to pave the way for the hyper-connected era, empowering consumers to help create a sustainable future by simply using Samsung products.

One More Step for Mankind: Samsung’s Sustainable Journey

When developing new technology for users, we have always been asking the question “What should we do?” rather than “What can we do?” This is because technology can change the way people communicate with and experience the world, make daily life more enriching and can act as the driving force toward a better future.

At CES 2023, we will show our industry-leading efforts that go beyond simply making great products with advanced technologies and aim to unleash new experiences through technology, making our daily lives and the world even better.

Next week, Samsung will share its latest lineup of innovative products designed to enhance users’ everyday lives, including updates that empower fitness and wellness routines. Ahead of the unveiling, we’d like to take the time to reflect on our philosophy, achievements, and the progress that we have made as we approach our most recent step in our health journey.

The world has entered a new era of wellness, seeing a growing desire for a more nuanced understanding of overall health. In the past, health was a simple concept with a single definition. Now, everyone defines health and wellness by what it means to them. To accommodate everyone’s health goals, Samsung is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the resources they need, so they can work towards the best version of themselves.

To that end, we are focused on setting new standards for health experiences through our Galaxy Watch series, and across our broader product portfolio. We have established three key pillars to help people reach their own goals: sensor innovation, connected wellness and industry collaboration.

Advanced Sensors for More Meaningful Insights

To create healthier habits and reach goals, it’s important that we know ourselves better. For our users, this journey starts with Samsung’s groundbreaking BioActive Sensor. The BioActive Sensor delivers accurate and comprehensive health data and provides actionable insights and guidance which users can leverage during their health and wellness journey.

First introduced with the Galaxy Watch4, the BioActive Sensor uses a unique single chip that combines three powerful health sensors – Optical Heart Rate (PPG), Electrical Heart Signal (ECG) and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) – into one compact unit. Its streamlined design enhances performance and fits comfortably for increased accuracy and 24/7 usage. This helps users deepen their understanding, encourages action, and strengthens good habits to help them achieve their goals.

Our sensor provides insights across all aspects of health, but we’d like to highlight two key areas: sleep and body composition. Sleep is often an afterthought when establishing a solid wellness routine, but it is essential for holistic health. At Samsung, we’re serious about helping our community get better sleep. We’ve introduced various sleep quality tracking tools and launched a tailored sleep coaching programme, all aimed to help users get a more restful night’s sleep.

When it comes to fitness, in particular, everyone’s goals are different. That’s why BioActive Sensor also measures body composition, which deepens users’ knowledge of their physical health, far beyond merely losing weight. The sensor sends microcurrents to measure weight maintained, skeletal muscle gained, body fat lost and body water levels, relative to goals set, helping users hit targets and keep track of what matters to them.

Across these advancements, we remain intensely committed to the secure and private collection of data to give our users peace of mind during their wellness journeys. All health data is encrypted and secured on the device itself and guarded by Knox, ensuring users’ information remains isolated from unauthorised sources.

Wellness That Spans All Devices

We are also providing tools that allow consumers to track overall health and wellness — whether they’re at home, in the gym, or on the road. The Samsung Health app, with more than 200 million active global users, is at the centre of Samsung’s health experience across an extensive range of devices, from smartwatches to smartphones, tablets and even TVs. The app — a holistic health hub that consolidates fitness, wellness, and health monitoring capabilities — records and compiles all kinds of health data and activity information, presents them intuitively, and gives guidance on how to leverage that data to maximise results. The collected information is comprehensive, easy-to-understand, and encourages positive action.

More connected devices means a more seamless and enhanced user experience. While following guided workout or meditation programmes on Samsung Smart TVs or Galaxy Tabs at home, for example, your calorie count and heart rate are tracked on your Galaxy Watch but viewed on the larger screen for easier access. Your Galaxy Watch also recognises when you fall asleep and automatically dims lights and turns off air conditioners in response.

Open Collaboration Means Better Health Experiences

To give our users the best experience possible, we partner with other leaders in technology and wellness. We have built a strong foundation with our technology, and we welcome collaboration on our open ecosystem — one that often serves as an incubator for exciting new applications, services and features. In collaboration with Google, we co-developed Wear OS and Health Connect so that more users can join the unified platform and take advantage of new services and solutions to meet everyone’s needs.

Samsung works extensively with third-party experts, research centres, and universities to further advance wearable tracking and insight capabilities, including the National Sleep Foundation for sleep, the University of California San Diego Sleep Laboratory and the University of California, San Francisco Hypoxia Research Laboratory for sleep and blood oxygen research, and Louisiana State University, Pennington Biomedical Research Center and the University of Hawaii Cancer Center for BIA research, to name a few. We’re also committed to researching new ways our health solutions can be used in the medical field. In the coming months, we’re focused on developing more tools and resources that will support the medical community and give our users a more holistic view of their health records.

The Promising Future of Health and Wellness

In the last few years, many people around the world have adopted new habits and interests. For many, these include a greater awareness of physical, mental and sleep health. To meet this demand, Samsung is excited to continue expanding our Galaxy Watch lineup to better cater to the many unique needs of our users — especially those with a passion for the outdoors.

Our work, however, does not stop there. We are constantly innovating and investing in research and development and exploring new ways to work with our trusted partners. Through open collaboration and focused innovation, we will ensure our users are equipped with advanced technologies that empower them to better understand their own minds and bodies for a truly integrated, holistic experience of health and wellness.

We can’t wait for you to see what’s next. Please be sure to tune in to Galaxy Unpacked on August 10 at 2pm BST on Samsung.com.
