Additionally, “Coral in Focus,” a documentary tied to the initiative, received the Coastal and Island Culture Award at the 23rd International Ocean Film Festival. Samsung was separately named on Fast Company’s 2026 Most Innovative Companies list for its work advancing mobile innovation in environmental research.

These recognitions reflect the impact of Samsung’s efforts to reverse the decline of coral reefs in partnership with U.S.-based nonprofit organisation Seatrees and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego. By bringing together Galaxy’s advanced image capturing capabilities, Seatrees’ community-driven restoration model and Scripps’ knowledge on marine science, Samsung is transforming Galaxy mobile phones into powerful tools for ocean conservation.

Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor yet support approximately 25% of all marine life and sustain millions of livelihoods worldwide^[2]. Without intervention, many reefs are at risk of disappearing by 2050 due to climate change, pollution and overfishing.

To help address this challenge, Samsung collaborated with Seatrees and Scripps to advance coral reef restoration across a growing network of sites in Costa Rica, Fiji, the Galápagos Islands, Indonesia and the United States.

Through the “Samsung x Seatrees: Bring Coral in Focus” initiative, partners and local communities are given Ocean Mode-equipped Galaxy devices and underwater housings to capture high-quality underwater imagery with Ocean Mode, which is then used to generate detailed 3D photogrammetric models. This process improves how coral reefs are monitored and evaluated, resulting in critical insight into reef health and recovery.

Together, Samsung, Seatrees and Scripps have driven meaningful impact across restoration sites. To date, more than 20,000 coral fragments have been planted, and over 80 3D reef models have been built to support monitoring and research efforts.

Now available through Expert RAW ^[3], Ocean Mode extends these capabilities to Galaxy users, making advanced underwater imaging^[4] available to more people while reducing reliance on expensive, heavy DSLR equipment. This increased accessibility is critical to scaling coral reef monitoring efforts, particularly in regions where resources and technical infrastructure may be limited.

When users add eligible items to Samsung Wallet, Trips groups them together based on factors such as time and location, helping travellers keep itineraries in one place despite details coming from different sources.

Users can manage a range of travel-related experiences, including bookings such as hotels, flight itineraries, car rentals and excursions — as well as tickets for buses, trains, theme parks and sporting events. By integrating an AI sound engine with advanced sound separation technology, the Galaxy S26 series allows you to instantly adjust and control sound as it occurs. Who are the “accidental audience”?

The “accidental audience” is made up of people who look at someone else’s phone screen when out in public. It is not planned, and sometimes not even intentional. Just something that happens when out and about.

The research shows:

• 56% of Europeans have accidentally looked at a stranger’s phone
• 24% admit curiosity has occasionally led them to look
• 49% say they have felt someone else glance at their own screen

How is the accidental audience viewing your phone screen?

These moments are most likely to happen in shared, close-contact environments. Public transport is the most common setting, according to 57% of respondents.

Other everyday scenarios include:

• Waiting in queues (35%)
• Sitting in cafés, bars or restaurants (13%)

In these settings, glances are part of everyday life, and nearby phone screens often fall into view.

What are people actually seeing?

Often, it is more personal than expected. One in three Europeans (33%) says they have seen private content on a stranger’s phone screen.

The most commonly spotted content includes:

• Personal photos or camera roll (38%)
• Video calls showing people’s faces or voices (33%)
• Private messages (29%)
• Social media notifications (27%)
• Online shopping (17%)
• Dating app content (12%)
• Banking or financial details (11%)

For many, these are brief, passing moments – but 27% say they have seen something they felt they were not meant to see, highlighting how easily private content can become public.

How are people protecting their phone screens in public?

As awareness of the “accidental audience” grows, many people are making small changes to how they use their phones in public. The Samsung Electronics research shows that 38% of Europeans have delayed or avoided certain actions on their device when in shared spaces.

Common adjustments include:

• Doing online banking at a different time (62%)
• Holding off entering passcodes (49%)
• Saving personal messages for later (43%)

In the moment:

• 42% stop using their phone
• 28% continue as normal
• 27% of the “accidental audience” look away
• 7% of the “accidental audience” keep looking discreetly

Only 10% would address it directly, suggesting most people accept the people seeing their screen as part of modern life and quietly adapt.

Can smartphones have a built-in privacy display?

As this behaviour becomes more common, smartphone design is evolving to match real-world use. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces a Privacy Display^[2] that reduces visibility from side angles and limits what others can see^[3].

Helping to shift power back towards the user, giving people the opportunity to exercise more control over what is visible and when.

A new normal for smartphone use

In a world where smartphones are used everywhere, small moments of visibility are inevitable.

At the core of Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G is Awesome Intelligence^[1] — a suite of AI-powered features designed to simplify daily tasks.

One of the most notable additions is Voice Transcription, available on the Galaxy A series for the first time. With the Voice Recorder app, users can record audio, convert speech to text and translate it across multiple languages^[2]  — making it easier to review meetings, revisit lectures or organise recorded calls.

Circle to Search with Google^[3], a Galaxy fan favourite feature, continues to expand and now allows multiple objects to be identified at once. For example, when users spot a look they love, information about each object — from tops to footwear — can be found in one search by simply circling an outfit on the screen.

AI Select^[4] suggests relevant actions based on on-screen content, such as creating GIFs, saving images or setting wallpapers. The feature is now accessible by long-pressing the Edge Panel.

Users can also move content seamlessly between apps. Multi-Window Drag & Drop, enhanced with AI Select, enables faster multitasking in apps like Samsung Browser and Samsung Notes. For example, images can be dragged directly into Samsung Notes and resized as needed.

Six in ten (61%) say that they now make fewer, more intentional purchases in hope that they will last longer, with two in five (43%) agreeing that they expect more value for their money than a few years ago.  

The research was commissioned by Samsung to celebrate the launch of the Galaxy A57 5G, combining fundamental features with Awesome Intelligence (AI), and built to last with six years of security and OS upgrades. 

As Brits continue to embrace smarter spending habits, one thing is clear: the nation isn’t just saving money, it’s redefining how we spend money too. Nearly two fifths (38%) of Brits say they now actively look for ways to save on everyday purchases, signalling a cultural shift from cutting back to spending smarter. 

In fact, a quarter (25%) of adults say they feel more in control of their finances than ever before, as digital tools, social trends and everyday habits redefine what “value” really means in 2026. 

From price tracking apps to resale platforms, Brits are embracing smarter strategies, with 66% saying they often or always check reviews before buying anything, and over half (56%) using comparison tools as part of their regular shopping routine. 

When looking for money‑saving advice, shoppers are most likely to turn to those closest to them, with 48% relying on tips from family and friends. 

It doesn’t stop at shopping baskets, Brits are looking for better value in their everyday too, with 36% trying to save money when it comes to socialising with friends and family. However, over a quarter (26%) admitted they are still guilty of buying the occasional on-the-go coffee when they are trying to save cash.  

Technology is one area where value matters most, with 96 per cent saying it’s important to look for good value when choosing these gadgets and in order to do so, almost half (49%) now research extensively before committing to these purchases. 

In fact, tech tops the list of items where consumers demand the strongest balance of quality and value (56%), followed by home appliances (50%) and holidays (36%). 

This new wave of ‘smart spenders’ isn’t about doing without; it’s about doing things better. 24% say they now prioritise quality over quantity when making purchases, reflecting a more considered approach to spending as similarly, when it comes to gifting, Brits are becoming more intentional.  

Annika Bizon, VP of Product and Marketing for Samsung UK and Ireland said: “Consumers are expecting more from their purchases than ever before, taking their time to do research, watching or reading reviews and being more intentional with their decision-making. Value is a key driver, but that doesn’t mean people are willing to compromise on quality – they still expect products to deliver on performance and reliability. ” 

When it comes to smartphones specifically, buyers said long battery life delivers the greatest sense of value (70%).  

While others want to ensure they are getting bang for their buck with smooth performance (50%) and a durable design (49%).

Congratulations on your recent world record at the 2026 Lisbon Half Marathon. What’s the secret to your success?

There’s no secret. It’s just about discipline. You have to work hard, be extremely focused, and manage your energy — knowing when to rest and when to push harder. But honestly, the most important part is that you have to really want what you’re working toward. I wouldn’t have broken the world record if I didn’t follow that formula.

You finished second at the 2025 London Marathon and are now preparing to go one step further at this year’s event. What role has your Galaxy Watch8 played in your training?

My coach doesn’t live in Uganda, so my Galaxy Watch8 has basically become his personal assistant here. Even though he’s not with me, he can get real-time analysis and reports on my running form through the Running Analysis feature in Samsung Health. We track my heart rate and pay close attention to my pace for each kilometer. During the harder sessions, I also monitor the asymmetry readings to see if I’m overcompensating on one side so I can avoid strain. Contact time is another key aspect I keep an eye on, making small adjustments to my form to ensure every stride is as efficient as possible. I always try to improve my running economy, so these insights are incredibly helpful.

Looking at your recent Samsung Health data, we can see some clear patterns in your training routine. Tell us about your regime.

Consistency is key, but athletes must not be obsessed with training. What many people don’t realize is that rest is equally as important as physical training. To compete at your best, you need to be able to maximize your energy, and the only way to do that is through consistent rest. But “rest” doesn’t always mean no training. A rest day can mean running 3 km instead of 40 km. You have to be consistent in what you’re doing, but you also need to listen to your body and know when to slow down. Technology can help a lot with this.

Can you give us an example of how a specific insight from the Samsung Health app led you to adapt your training program?

The decision to run 3 km instead of 40 km that I just mentioned was a true story. After experiencing some lingering soreness during a recent 24 km run, I decided to turn what was intended to be a 40 km run into a light 3 km jog to ensure I could recover and have the stamina to get through 40 km another day. The Samsung Health app was very helpful for me here. It kept me informed so I could allow my body to fully recover and prevent a potential injury or burnout.

We’ve seen how a professional runner like yourself uses data to reach their goals. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their running journey, and how can the Running Coach feature get them on the right track?

For beginners, it is very important to ease into things and be patient. You will build up stamina over time; it’s about knowing when to push yourself and when to stop. Not everyone has a personal coach with them to tailor a training plan. But the Running Coach feature provides customized programs to help even beginners train for a marathon. It tells you exactly what you should be doing during a run, motivates you, and helps you improve. New runners are fortunate to have this fantastic technology which can guide them every step of the way. It’s also great for more experienced runners looking to take on a full marathon as it provides structured training programs.

On World Health Day, the message is “Together for health, stand with science.” How does this relate to your own philosophy?

Science helps me throughout my training. I don’t know where I would be without the ability to track data on my Galaxy Watch8. I use that science to shape my daily routine. Science and technology help me to perform at my best, and I believe it can do the same for anyone.
