London, UK – 09th March 2021 – Samsung Electronics UK Ltd. will see the entry of new European Union energy labels for household appliances. This

London, UK – 09th March 2021 – Samsung Electronics UK Ltd. will see the entry of new European Union energy labels for household appliances. This has been set out in new legislation approved by the European Commission relating to specific consumer electronic appliances including refrigerators, washing machines, washer-dryers and dishwashers.

For the first time, these labels will include a QR code which will provide additional, official (non-commercial) information – drawn from the European Product Database for Energy Labelling – when scanned with a smartphone.

Samsung welcomes the European Union’s drive to accelerate the innovation and production of energy efficient electronic appliances and hold manufacturers accountable to higher standards, while at the same time introducing new labelling requirements that offer consumers across Europe greater transparency, understanding and choice.

At the centre of Samsung’s design philosophy is developing innovative products that are energy efficient and use both recycled and eco-friendly materials to reduce their environmental impact. Samsung’s commitment to constantly improving the sustainability performance of its products starts at the beginning of a product’s lifecycle, through its Eco-design Process.

The Eco-design Process enables Samsung to plan and develop products that have greater energy efficiency, use fewer resources and eliminate hazardous substances. It ensures alignment with all global environmental regulations and requirements, as well as encourages Samsung to take voluntary steps and pursue ideas to create responsibly designed products for its customers.

Rachael Ward, Marketing & Product Director, Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics UK Ltd. says: “At Samsung, we are striving to create world class environment-friendly home appliances, through efforts including development of advanced energy saving technologies and creative new product concepts such as customisable modular refrigerators. The new labelling will guarantee transparency on higher efficiency standards, closer attention to sustainability, and easier understanding of the grading system of household appliances.”

WASHING MACHINES: LAUNDRY IS READY WITH SMART CONTROL+

In the laundry segment, Samsung’s Smart Control+ range of washing machines meets the highest standards of the new energy labels, awarded energy grade A and B. With Artificial Intelligence, the Smart Control+ range customises the washing process, adapting it to the consumer’s preferences, and detecting the weight of the laundry, before dispensing the appropriate amount of water and detergent using Auto Dose. The washing machine can also cleverly link with a compatible dryer via Auto Cycle Link*, so the tumble dryer can automatically select an optimal setting once the wash cycle ends.

The range of Smart Control+ washing machines include: QuickDrive, AddWash, and Auto Dose.

The “eco” features that apply to the whole Smart Control+ range include:

Furthermore, depending on the specific needs of consumers, the various lines also offer a range of the following distinctive features:

QuickDrive technology uses a super speed cycle to give users a clean load in just 39 minutes on a 5kg load.

AddWash line has a door in the door, letting users add anything they have forgotten to the wash at any time***, avoiding new cycles.

Auto Dose function knows just the right amount of detergent for any load.

REFRIGERATORS: EXCELLENT ENERGY PERFORMANCE FOR FOOD CONSERVATION

The modular design of Samsung’s BESPOKE refrigerators – coming to the UK later this year- offers customers the flexibility to tailor their fridge by adding additional units or replacing the door panels according to their individual lifestyle and design needs. The BESPOKE has a series of different platforms (Tall 1-Door Fridge/Freezer, BMF) that allows users to minimise spatial waste when installing their customised fridge configurations. Aside from its modular design, the BESPOKE line-up also includes features that help minimise both energy and food waste.

The features that make this level of energy conservation possible include:

SpaceMax Technology makes the walls slimmer, so the same size fridge on the outside has larger capacity inside.

Digital Inverter Compressor monitors and adjusts temperature to keep it constantly perfect, making fridges more efficient.

Twin Cooling controls the refrigerator and freezer independently with two separate evaporators and precise electronic control. This helps to maintain desired temperatures in both the fridge and freezer, which preserves food in the best conditions to minimise food waste.

Metal Cooling keeps food fresh, even if users frequently open and close the fridge door. The metal plate in the rear wall helps maintain the optimal internal temperature by retaining the cold and preventing the loss of cool air whenever the door is open.

In addition to innovative, environmentally-friendly technologies, BESPOKE refrigerators are also equipped with features that improve the utilisation of interior storage compartments:

CoolSelect Zone allows users to switch freezer compartments at the bottom of the fridge, with three variations of precise temperature control.

Optimal Fresh+ box is a multi-purpose compartment that can be split into two zones with different temperatures, making it ideal for storing items that require different temperatures but need to be kept separately, such as meats and vegetables.

Rack & Shelf is a multi-purpose wine rack, which is not only an elegant way to store your favourite bottles, but makes more space on your shelves for the food to enjoy with it.

The new regulations are for European consumers and will also apply in non-EU countries.

Longest EVER single shot ad screened on UK television1– with a takeover of an entire prime time ad break

‘Slow TV’ style commercial nods to 1950’s interlude series and features nothing but unbroken footage of washing machine cycle from a single locked off camera

Creative inspired by new research which reveals adult Brits will spend 61 days across a lifetime ‘watching the washing’

Ad created to launch the Samsung’s QuickDrive, a washing machine which cuts laundry time by HALF2 – without compromising performance

The ad which emphasises #LifesTooShort will be screened during Channel 4 hit Gogglebox on Friday 24th November

London, UK – Wednesday 22nd, November 2017: TV history is to be made with the screening of a head-spinning new Samsung ad which will be the longest single shot commercial ever screened in the UK – featuring nothing but a washing machine cycle.

At three minutes and 20 seconds long, and preceded by a bespoke Channel 4 branded introduction, the advert will fill an entire ad break when it is aired during Friday night smash hit show Gogglebox on November 24.

The film, developed and directed by creative agency Taylor Herring and produced by PackHorse Productions promises to be one of the most hypnotic ads ever screened featuring a 200 second long cross section of a family wash immersed in suds as it spins through a cycle.

The ad, which marks the launch of Samsung’s new QuickDrive washing machine, taps into the popularity of “slow TV” which has captured a cult audience who revel in the quirky joys of watching the world pass by in real-time on their screens, basking in the full, unedited glory.

The creative – ‘QuickDrive Interlude’ was inspired by the golden days of the celebrated TV “interlude” series of the 1950s, which most famously featured a rotating potter’s wheel to cover for gaps in programmes or when there was some sort of technical problem. Other films, which were beloved by a generation, included a ploughman driving his horses across a field and a kitten with a ball of string.

The Samsung commercial directly references the inspiration via on screen text and 30 seconds of sepia tinged footage before fading to full colour.

QuickDrive Interlude will launch with the hashtag #LifesTooShort to emphasise the valuable time wasted as we wait for long washing cycles to end. Newly commissioned research from Samsung reveals that the average British adult will spend 1,481 hours watching the washing spin, which adds up to 61 days across a lifetime. In that time they could learn an instrument such as piano or trumpet to Grade 5 or become fluent in a new language.

Using the latest technology, Samsung QuickDrive cuts laundry time by half2 without compromising on performance. It adds a new dimension to washing by not only moving clothes up and down with the churning motion of the drum, but a plate at the rear also adds a back and forth movement to wash more effectively. QuickDrive also includes the innovative AddWash feature, enabling additional items of clothing to be added during the cycle3.

Viewers of a certain age will recognise the accompanying music as the theme tune to “the gallery” on BBC1’s 70s children’s show Vision On, which featured the late TV artist Tony Hart. The track Left Bank Two, recorded by The Noveltones, was later revived for another kids’ show SMart in the Noughties and it has become something of a turn-to tongue-in-cheek soundbed to soundtrack a humdrum scene on TV.

Mark Seaman, Head of Domestic Appliances, Samsung UK & Ireland, said: “QuickDrive is the fastest and smartest Samsung washing machine ever made and this commercial shines a spotlight on the ‘performance’ of the machine itself to create a mesmerising spectacle where art meets technology. The advert also teases the next stage of our campaign which will see QuickDrive’s performance taken to even bigger screens.”

Pete Clark, Agency Principal from Channel 4 Sales said: “We’re really excited to be making TV history with Samsung and building on 4 Sales’ strong track record in ad break innovation. Dedicating an entire ad break to showcasing nothing but the new QuickDrive in action will deliver good clean entertainment for Channel 4 viewers.”

Samsung is supporting the advert with a full PR campaign including a unique tie up with the show. GoggleBox personalities will elevate the online conversation around the advert with tweets during the commercial, seeding the content to their followers.

Gogglebox currently attracts an average overnight audience of 2.8 million viewers per episode and a 14.4% share of the viewing audience on Fridays from 9-10pm.

4 October 2017 – Samsung Home Appliances surveyed 2,000 men and women in UK aged 18+ to find out their personal bug bears and frustrations at home and in the kitchen. The survey celebrates the launch of Samsung’s “The Domestics” campaign; a new six part comedy series starring comedians Katherine Ryan and Joel Dommett.

Samsung found that the other bad kitchen habits that irk the UK population most are: not emptying the pockets of clothing items before putting them in the washing machine (68%); wiping crumbs and food remnants off surfaces and onto the floor (66%) and leaving dirty dishes in or next to the sink rather than putting them in the dishwasher (61%). Interestingly, domestic annoyances are a great leveller as the survey didn’t show up any big variations here across gender, age or UK location.

The nation’s favourite kitchen hack was a simple time-saver: to make double the quantities when cooking so you can use what’s needed on the day, and then can freeze the rest to use later.

Samsung asked what the one kitchen item you can’t live without is. Here the fridge came out top with 41% of the vote, followed by the washing machine (21%), the kettle and oven tied at 16%. The washing machine rated more highly with women (30%) than with men (11%), and the kettle was the biggest hit amongst the older 65+ age group – it must be all those cups of tea.

Samsung then asked the nation’s opinion on what’s the best way to make the perfect cup of tea? They overwhelmingly agreed (89%) that you need to boil the kettle for the full amount of time. They’re more evenly split on how long you should allow the tea bag to brew for: 49% saying leave it to brew for 3-5 minutes, 46% saying to leave it brewing for just 1-2 minutes. On when to add the milk, 81% say after the hot water. And the perfect colour for the perfect cup of tea? 41% like their tea best when its caramel-coloured, 37% prefer it stronger/darker, with only a splash of milk.

Samsung Home Appliances’ “The Domestics” is a six part comedy series that reveals the little observations in modern day life that can cause tensions and frustrations. Starring Katherine Ryan and Joel Dommett, Samsung worked closely with the comedy duo to develop their humorous takes on everyday domestic moments to entertain viewers, whilst showcasing Samsung’s appliances and the innovations that can help to resolve these tensions.

Sally Whitson, Head of Marketing for Domestic Appliances at Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland says, “Domestic tensions really are the Great British bug bear. Our research proves how passionate we are about our little idiosyncrasies, but also how divisive they can be. This, combined with our own experiences, inspired us to create The Domestics, and bring to life those everyday frustrations we all experience, adding a bit of humour in along the way. We also wanted to show how Samsung’s appliances are designed to help with these everyday tasks so you can have more time to do what you love… and hopefully rowing less with who you love!”

Samsung Electronics announced today that it has been ranked No.6 on Interbrand’s “Best Global Brands 2017” list with a brand value of $56.2 billion – one

Samsung Electronics announced today that it has been ranked No.6 on Interbrand’s “Best Global Brands 2017” list with a brand value of $56.2 billion – one position up and a 9 percent increase from last year.

As it has made continual strides as a global company, Samsung has ranked as one of the top 10 brands on the Interbrand rankings from 2012 to 2017, demonstrating continual growth in brand value.

This year’s achievement is particularly meaningful given some of the challenges that Samsung has faced, and overcome, in the past year. For example, Interbrand, in its evaluation, cited among various factors, Samsung’s exemplary, fast recovery from last year’s Galaxy Note 7 crisis, the company’s successful launches of flagship products, and its continued stellar financial performance.

In particular, Samsung’s mobile business reconfirmed its market leadership through the successful launch of the Galaxy S8. Samsung’s memory division also performed strongly, with its record profits contributing to the rise in brand value. Samsung’s digital appliances business introduced innovative and award-winning new products, developed from deep consumer insights, like the Family Hub refrigerator and AddWash washing machine. Samsung’s visual display division also broke new ground in the TV market with the new QLED TV as well as The Frame, a new lifestyle TV for the home.

“Our efforts to make meaningful progress to improve people’s lives contributed to the rise in brand value,” said YH Lee, CMO of Samsung Electronics. “Our ranking this year is a positive sign that demonstrates our efforts to regain trust have resonated with global consumers.”

This year’s Interbrand’s Best Global Brands will be announced at the World Trade Center in New York City on September 27.

London – 29th August, 2017 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced its revolutionary new washing machine technology QuickDrive set to be unveiled at IFA 2017 in Berlin. At the heart of the WW8800M washing machine is Samsung’s exclusive QuickDrive technology, which provides consumers the power to dramatically reduce the time it takes to do a load of laundry in half1. On its Super Speed setting, a daily load of laundry completes in just 39 minutes, offering consumers the time-saving solution they always wanted but never had, without compromising washing performance1, energy efficiency, fabric care and durability.

“QuickDrive is the industry’s game changer, dramatically cutting the amount of time it takes for users to do laundry and giving them more time to enjoy life,” said B.S. Suh, Executive Vice President of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “The new WW8800M washing machine uses QuickDrive technology to provide fast and powerful washing performance, with a range of technologies and smart functionality that make doing laundry so much easier.”

Improved washing performance with Samsung’s unique technology

Samsung’s QuickDrive technology cuts washing time by 50% and energy use by 20%1 without compromising the cleaning performance. Its unique drum consists of a large main drum and a plate in the back that rotates independently. Unlike conventional washers that move clothes repeatedly up and down over the course of the cycle, the WW8800M moves clothes from top to bottom in the drum, and the plate in the back of the drum introduces a back and forth movement. It creates a revolutionary dynamic action that quickly, gently and thoroughly remove dirt to deliver an intense and complete wash cycle.

In addition, Samsung’s unrivalled QuickDrive technology was independently tested by Intertek, the world’s largest testing and inspection organization. Intertek confirmed that QuickDrive technology provides the same level of cleaning performance and fabric care as existing products, while reducing washing times.

The new WW8800M also has many of Samsung’s outstanding laundry technologies, like ecobubbleTM, which provides powerful washing performance by mixing air and water to generate fine detergent bubbles that penetrate fabrics faster and maximize the detergent’s effects even at low temperatures.

Smarter, IoT-enabled washing machine for user convenience

Throughout the washing cycle, QuickDriveTM offers a range of smart and convenient features. The IoT-ready WW8800M boasts an AI-powered laundry assistant, which provides three key smart features that help manage laundry more conveniently:

Enables consumers to manage a laundry finishing time, freeing consumers to control their schedule on their own terms.

Automatically recommendations for optimal wash cycles based on the information such as colour, fabric type, and degree of soiling inputted by the user, eliminating the need for guessing about which cycle is best.

Monitors the washer, proactively alerting users about potential problems and providing quick troubleshooting support.

The WW8800M also comes with Samsung’s innovative AddWashTM, a feature that gives users the ability to add items at any time during the cycle2. From a forgotten sock to a delicate item3 that needs to go in later in the cycle, AddWash even allows users to add detergent or fabric softener at a later time. The combination of these smart features and AddWash creates a synergistic effect that further enhances the user convenience, simplifying the laundry process.

Designed for higher durability and cost-efficiency

Finally, the WW8800M is designed for long-lasting performance. Equipped with Samsung’s Digital Inverter Technology, the WW8800M reduces noise and helps reduce energy consumption while providing exceptional durability4, enabling the washer to maintain its outstanding washing performance and fabric care. It also uses an Anti-Scale Heater a new type of anti-adhesion coating, which ensures up to 55 percent less scale buildup than conventional ceramic heaters5, helping the heater maintain its performance longer with more durability.

Samsung Electronics’ booth will be open at Level 2, City Cube Berlin from September 1 through 6 for IFA 2017.

UK availability and launch

The WW8800M will be available from Late October, from Samsung.com and select retailers including AO.com, Currys PC World / Dixons and John Lewis. UK RRP: £1629.99

Hi-res downloadable imagery can be found here.

1 Tested on WW8800M compared with Samsung WW8500K. Saves 50% time on Cotton (40℃, half load) and eCotton cycle with washing performance within ±2%. Saves 20% energy on Cotton (40℃, half load) and Super Speed cycle (40℃, 5kg load), based on Intertek data.

2 The AddWashTM door only opens only when the drum temperature is below 50°C.

3 Only fabric items, clothing, detergent and softener can be added.

4 Awarded a 20-year durability certification by the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies in Germany (Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker – VDE).

5 Tested on Anti-Scale Heater compared with Samsung’s original conventional heater of WF60F4E0N0W/ET, based on independent testing of weight variation in hard water.
