The poll reveals that the miniskirt tops the nations list of iconic style pieces

Two in five feel today’s fashion is mostly made up of old styles and trends which are making a comeback

22 per cent of Brits own a clothing item that is over 20 years old

London, UK – 27th May 2020 –Samsung Electronics UK Ltd. today released new research that reveals that the nation’s most iconic fashion statement is the mini skirt – ahead of the little black dress and hot pants.

A study of 2,000 Brits revealed the most memorable style trends, which also saw knee high boots, denim jackets and skinny jeans feature in the top 10. Tie die t-shirts, which were made popular in the swinging sixties, also featured, along with flapper dresses of the 1920s and shell suits from the 1980s. Also, among the most loved fashion items of the past were leather biker jackets, dungarees and band t-shirts.

The research, commissioned by Samsung to celebrate the launch of the new Samsung AirDresser, also revealed how a number of these memorable trends are still considered wardrobe staples – with one in four saying skinny jeans are one of their fashion must-haves. A quarter of women favour an LBD, and one in 10 adults have a leather biker jacket. As a result, two-fifths feel today’s fashion is mostly made up of old styles and trends which are making a comeback.

“Our study just goes to show that there are many memorable trends from over the years, and as a result people are hanging on to items, they perceive to be classics, while also investing in vintage finds. This is great for sustainable fashion but often these clothes need to be cared for properly to protect them for the future,” says Dan Harvie, the Vice President of Home Appliances at Samsung. “This is one of the reasons we have developed the Samsung AirDresser, to redefine how people care for their clothes and help prolong every garment’s lifespan.”

The study also found plain t-shirts and a pair of trainers are among the wardrobe staples for the nation, as well as black jeans and plain black trousers. But one in 10 would say a designer coat to keep them warm in the colder months is the most important wardrobe staple.

Nearly half (48 per cent) see these items as essentials because they ‘go with everything’, while 64 per cent said they are just so comfortable. And 49 per cent enjoy wearing them because they are a good fit. It also emerged that just 11 per cent of those polled would describe their fashion sense as ‘on trend’, with as many as six in 10 describing their style as ‘comfortable’. More than a third would simply say their look is more ‘basic’, while 13 per cent think they have a ‘vintage’ edge.

The study also found Brits are hording away these favourite clothes, with the oldest items in wardrobes dating back as many as 12 years, with 22 per cent owning something older than 20 years. As a result, people do what they can to try and care for these older or more delicate items. Nearly three in 10 will wear these items less often if it means preserving them for as long as possible, while a fifth wash them less often. A quarter will also ensure they are washing them on a gentler wash setting.

The research, conducted via OnePoll, found three in 10 find it hard to clean clothes and keep them from losing their shape or getting damaged. As a result, 24 per cent wished their clothes would last longer, and 40 per cent are willing to spend more money on clothes which have a longer shelf-life.

Dan Harvie added, “We all have that favourite item we wished would last us a lifetime, but it’s not that easy. Regular washing is great for when life has got a little hectic for your basic items of clothing, but for those quality garments, over-washing can cause damage to the fabric. The Samsung AirDresser is an innovative solution which keeps clothes refreshed and removes lingering odours and hidden germs. It offers 99.9%* sanitisation with the sanitise cycle and gently cares for clothing, prolonging the period between washes. This means less stress is put on fabrics which helps pieces maintain their premium feel for longer.”

London, UK – 20th January 2020 – Samsung Electronics Ltd. has announced the launch of the AirDresser in the UK, a ground-breaking solution to some of clothing care’s most wearing problems.

The AirDresser is a new and efficient method of caring for clothes, keeping them refreshed and revitalised without washing. As it prolongs the period between washes, less stress is put on fabrics, particularly delicate materials. And with the growing trend of people choosing to invest in sustainable, higher-quality garments that will cause less damage to the environment, the AirDresser ensures that garments will last for longer.

The product offers several features that have been built with gentle care for clothes in mind. The AirDresser has a bespoke Jet Air system and three Air Hangers that freshen clothes by using powerful jets of air to loosen and remove engrained dust, even from deep within the fabric. It also uses Jet Steam, which sanitises garments gently to remove bacteria, and its Heatpump Drying provides delicate care for clothes by drying them at a low temperature, reducing any worries of shrinkage and heat damage.

The AirDresser also captures and removes odours from your garments using its Deodorising Filter. The filter also ensures no odours are left behind!

Available in a Crystal Mirror colour, the AirDresser resembles a stylish, contemporary wardrobe that fits seamlessly into any home, and as it is fitted with a water tank, there is no need for it to be plumbed in.

The AirDresser is available to purchase from Thursday 23rd January for RRP £1,999 from Samsung.com and Harrods.

LONDON, UK — September 4, 2019 — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. will unveil two new advanced home appliances in the UK — the POWERstick Jet vacuum cleaner and AirDresser. Together, these new home appliances are being introduced at IFA 2019, helping consumers to revitalise their homes with ease and efficiency.

Each device offers a unique and practical solution to the many challenges of modern life, like clothing contamination, dust and hurried lifestyles.

“We are excited to introduce the POWERstick Jet and AirDresser to consumers in Europe, equipped with outstanding functionality and unmatched design to enhance consumers’ daily experience,” said Taehwan Hwang, Corporate VP of Europe & CIS Product Management Group at Samsung Electronics. “Consumers have high expectations, seeking dynamic performance even from basic home appliances and our mission is to meet those expectations directly.”

The POWERstick Jet vacuum cleaner is a game-changer in terms of powerful suction capabilities. AirDresser represents a new category of clothing care appliances. It refreshes and sanitises clothing using powerful blasts of air and steam, enabling consumers to re-wear clothes without having to run a full load of laundry and helping them lengthen the lifespan of delicate garments.

Strong suction power paired with impressive filtration

The POWERstick Jet targets consumer demand for suction power from their cordless vacuum cleaners to match that of corded units. POWERstick Jet delivers, using Samsung’s Digital Inverter Motor and Jet Cyclone System to generate up to 200W[1] of industry-leading suction power. This results in stronger cleaning and offers consumers maximised convenience.

Samsung has also developed the best-in-class 5-layer HEPA filtration system for the POWERstick Jet. The impressive filter captures 99.999%[2] of dust particles and allergens, keeping them from escaping back into the air through the vacuum exhaust, which underlines Samsung’s commitment to caring for the health and safety of consumers.

In the first stage of the filtration process, the main cyclone separates large dust particles, which are then trapped in another metal mesh grille filter. The Jet Cyclone serves as a second cyclone and works together with a washable micro filter to capture finer dust particles. And finally, an ultra-fine dust filter captures 0.3~10µm[3] sized dust particles. All parts and filters are washable, so the unit can be maintained hygienically.

POWERstick Jet comes with a removable high-capacity battery, meaning you can replace it with a spare[4] to clean for twice as long.

A new way to refresh clothes for consumers

AirDresser introduces a new standard of clothing care that addresses unmet consumer needs for a more efficient method of refreshing and revitalising their clothes on a daily basis. Consumers want to be able to take better care of their clothes, especially if they are made of delicate materials. Consumers can now quickly and conveniently freshen up their outfit at home to always look their best, while saving time and money by reducing trips to the dry cleaners.

AirDresser freshens clothes with its Jet Air system and Air Hangers, using powerful jets of air to loosen and remove engrained dust, even from deep within the fabric. The Jet Steam feature sanitises garments gently to get rid of bacteria while Heatpump Drying also provides delicate care for clothes by drying them at a low temperature to reduce shrinkage and heat damage. AirDresser also features a Deodorising Filter to capture and remove odours while preventing them from building up inside the unit. It even has a Dust Filter that keeps the inside of the compartment clean by capturing the dust left floating in the air.

Available in a Crystal Mirror colour, AirDresser blends advanced technologies with unique styling, doubling as a state-of-the-art wardrobe that fits in beautifully with contemporary living spaces.

Both products can be experienced at the Berlin City Cube at IFA between September 6 and September 11.

[1] Suction tested based on IEC62885-2 Cl. 5.8, tested at the inlet of the non-accessorised tool, at Max mode. Based on SLG (Schubert Leiter Gerätesicherheit) tests.
