Kyle Brown Head of Technology, Services and Launch Management at Samsung Electronics commented: ‘We’re excited to roll out Samsung Pay to the first Northern Ireland bank; Danske Bank. In terms of what the future holds for Samsung Pay, we are in the process of working with more and more banks, to enable as many Samsung users to benefit from the service as possible, as we move towards a more connected world.’

What’s most exciting about the platform is the ease of use, this married together with the biometric security functions makes it a great addition to allow users make swift, safe purchases almost anywhere.’

Samsung Pay currently supports these partners and there are more on the way:
– American Express
– First Direct
– HSBC
– John Lewis Finance
– M&S Bank
– MBNA
– Nationwide Building Society
– Santander
– The Co-operative Bank

Samsung Pay is currently available with Galaxy S9, S9+, S8, S8+ and Note8, S7 and S7 edge, S6, S6 edge and S6 edge+**, A3, A5 2017 and Samsung Gear S3 & Samsung Gear Sport (via software update) and will be available on additional devices in coming months.

*Available with participating networks, banks and merchants on selected devices, on NFC terminals. A limit of £30 may apply, based on merchant policies. Corporate cards currently not in scope.

**Android Nougat 7.0 software update required.

TFL FUNCTIONALITY: Samsung has worked with TfL on functionality for Samsung Pay that allows users to set a payment card up as ‘transport card’ to use on all TfL services and most National Rail services in London, allowing them to simply tap their phone against the card reader, eliminating the need to wake their phone or verify with a fingerprint or passcode.

LOYALTY CARDS: Users are able to upload their loyalty cards at selected merchants across the UK, to accumulate and redeem points.

NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION (NFC) and MAGNETIC SECURE TRANSMISSION (MST): Near Field Communication (NFC) allows two devices placed within a few inches of each other to exchange information. NFC payments require merchants to upgrade their old terminals to NFC-enabled payment terminals. Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) sends a magnetic signal from a compatible device to the payment terminal’s card reader (to emulate swiping a physical payment card). Both technologies are equally secure, using a unique digital card number in place of your actual payment card’s number. Your information is kept private and secure, and only your bank and the card’s payment network will have information on the transaction. In the UK, Samsung Pay uses NFC to send payment information to the terminal. The transaction is seamless, allowing for a better user experience.
