In October 2019, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd launched the Co–Lab Series, a new events campaign at Samsung KX, its new experience space in London’s King’s Cross. The series pairs together two experts from different industries who are both challenged to identify and unravel a current cultural issue through collaboration and implementing futuristic solutions.

The Co–Lab Series involves a series of workshops, talks and networking events led by influential creatives. As part of the series, London based DJ & broadcaster Goldierocks was paired with illustrator Charlotte Ager to help both the local community and visitors connect with the King’s Cross area.

In the face of decades of significant changes to the King’s Cross area, Goldierocks blended her experience of world culture with Charlotte’s creative eye to bring to life the international influences and create an illustrated map made up of the community’s DNA. The map highlights must-see spots in the area while celebrating the “global locals” of King’s Cross, showing a range of cultural touchpoints nearby such as House of Illustration, Kings Place and The Hardy Tree.

Charlotte Ager, Illustrator said:

I jumped at the chance to work with Goldierocks to explore the area and share a new perspective on the community. As a Freelance Illustrator, I frequently work by myself so it was nice to be able to collaborate with someone who is so passionate about London both past and present. It was so fun to be able to share ideas and learn from each other while we created an updated guide to such an important part of London.

Living in London can be fast-paced and hectic but this opportunity has allowed us to take the time to really research and discover the area around King’s Cross. I love being able to capture a place and convey stories within my work so it’s been a great experience to create illustrations that share the unique qualities of the spaces we found.
