LONDON, UK – 16th November 2022- Millions of Brits are still sore as they vote Diego Maradona’s infamous ‘Hand of God’ goal against England in the 1986 World Cup as the most controversial decision in the tournament’s history, according to new research released today.   

Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal against Germany (33%), Thierry Henry’s handball against the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup Qualifiers 2009 (28%), and West Germany goalkeeper Schumacher’s unpunished, incredible foul against France’s Patrick Battiston in 1982 (21%) also feature in the list of the top World Cup referee blunders.

The list was revealed from a poll of 2,000 football fans, commissioned by Samsung UK to showcase the new 2022 range of Neo QLED TVs, which are powered by Quantum Dot technology, providing stunning picture quality and true-to-life colours.

A panel of football experts, including former FIFA referee Dermot Gallagher, compiled the list of controversial movements, which was put to a public vote. The experts also examined how VAR would have changed the outcome of the decisions, had the technology been available back then.

Since its introduction to major football competitions around the world, VAR has continued to be a hotly contested issue, however 48% of football fans now support VAR’s introduction to international football.

More than six in ten Brits (63%) believe that VAR would have eradicated most of the World Cup injustices that have taken place over the years.

Two-thirds (64%) of fans believe VAR provides a clearer picture for both viewers at home and referees on the pitch.

However, the research also shows that 55% of fans fear VAR will cost England vital decisions in this year’s World Cup.

For those fans that don’t agree with the use of VAR – being unsure about celebrating goals (28%), VAR being used for the wrong reasons (28%) and slowing the game down (27%) were stated as the biggest VAR gripes for Brits. 

Although VAR accuracy has increased, decisions in recent Premier League games have still left fans baffled.  Nearly a third (32%) of those surveyed have said that their team has been negatively affected by a poor VAR decision this season, with a further 31% suggesting the bigger teams such as Liverpool get favourable decisions over less popular sides.

August 25, 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., today announced a collaboration with Prime Video that offers fans the opportunity to experience exclusive 8K content from the much anticipated The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series only on Samsung’s cutting-edge screens.

Before the September 2nd series premiere on Prime Video, Tolkienites and Ringers alike also will have early access to exclusive content only with Samsung. Today in New York City, Samsung will host an exclusive sneak peek screening event featuring 25 minutes of content from the series’ first two episodes on its three-story LED video wall at Samsung 837 – its flagship experience center. The 2022 Neo QLED 8K has been upgraded to bring the large screen experience to another level. At the heart is the Neural Quantum Processor 8K. The latest processor has 20 independent neural AI networks, each analysing the content’s characteristics and picture quality for optimal viewing, regardless of the source.

The Neural Quantum Processor 8K also powers a new technological innovation – Real Depth Enhancer. This scans the screen, and maximises contrast with the background by enhancing the object while keeping the background unprocessed. It works similarly to the way human eyes perceive images in real life so the object on screen stands out against the background.

The processor, combined with the powerful Quantum Mini LEDs, creates lighting that is precise and controlled so bright areas stay bright and the dark space around it stays dark – a feature we have dubbed Sharpe Adaptive Light Control. For example, the full moon will stay bright against the black night sky.

In fact, Samsung’s all new 2022 QLED received the world’s first ‘Pantone Validated’ certification in display from Pantone, the global authority on colour and creator of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) – meaning the models authentically reproduce more than 2,000 colours as well as the newly added 110 skin tone shades found in Pantone’s guidelines. Additionally, these brilliant colours are comfortable to watch with the new EyeComfort Mode. Immersive Dolby Atmos Sound with Smart Features

For true immersion, TVs and screens need powerful and nuanced sound to match the rich colours and sharp details. The Neural Quantum Processor 8K’s AI analyses what is on screen in real-time so that the Adaptive Sound features can track and move between speakers to precisely match the movement on screen.

In QN900B, a flagship Neo QLED 8K model, all the sounds come from a 90W 6.2.4 channel audio system, featuring new top channel speakers and Dolby Atmos with Object Tracking Sound Pro. This technology has also been applied to voice recognition with Voice Tracking Sound, so that sound effects and voices truly follow the movement across the screen.

Thanks to the Neo Quantum Processor and the advancements in picture technology and sound it delivers, 2022 Neo QLED will provide some of the most pristine images and immersive soundscapes possible. In fact, this year’s Neo Quantum Processor introduces advanced contrast mapping with BLU (back-light unit), increasing the brightness level from 12 to 14-bit gradation for greater control of the light source – the Quantum Mini LEDs. This allows the TV to control its lighting across 16,384 steps, quadrupled from the previous 4,096 steps.

The new Shape Adaptive Light technology leverages the Neo Quantum Processor to analyse lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of light from the Quantum Mini LEDs, enhancing the brightness and accuracy of all shapes on the screen. The HW-N950 especially is equipped with a main unit, four speakers and two wireless surround sound speakers, offering an incredibly immersive sound experience. Also, thanks to its 7.1.4 channels, the largest number of channels currently available in a soundbar, the HW-N950 features a built-in wireless subwoofer and rear wireless speaker kit to round out the premium audio experience. Harman Kardon tested and certified the products from both the objective and subjective perspectives. The objective tests have been conducted through an anechoic chamber and mock home environments, while the subjective tests have been carried out by listening to and assessing different audio formats and music genres. The tests are done to ensure that products meet Harman Kardon’s quality and performance standards.
