Galaxy AI is built to understand what you need before you even ask, whether that’s suggesting a change in your routine or pulling up just the right information at the right time.

This level of personalisation can be incredibly helpful, but the more your phone knows, the more there is to protect. So, what’s keeping all that personal data secure?

Samsung believes there is no privacy without strong security. That’s why every Galaxy device is protected from the chip up by a multi-layered approach, which includes on-device personalisation, user-controlled cloud processing, and ecosystem-wide protection through Samsung Knox Matrix.

At the core of this system is Samsung Knox Vault, the company’s hardware-based solution for securing your most sensitive information.

Secured at the Hardware Level

Most mobile devices rely solely on software to protect sensitive data. Galaxy devices go further.

Knox Vault is a hardware-level security solution that creates a physical barrier between your most private information and everything else. It works like a locked room inside your phone, with its own processor and memory to encrypt sensitive data, with Knox Vault securing the keys. It pairs a secure processor with dedicated memory, isolating your passwords, PINs, biometrics, as well as financial information and cryptographic keys. These are the kinds of details you don’t want anyone else to access, and Knox Vault is built to make sure they stay private. You don’t need to activate or manage it, as it’s always on, working silently in the background, keeping your data safe while you get on with your day.

This is particularly crucial in the age of AI as user concerns are expanding from traditional cybersecurity threats, like viruses and malware, to worries over leaking personal data, such as conversations with your AI assistant. And as AI becomes part of more everyday tasks, the types of data that need protection are also expanding.

For example, metadata from your most personal photos not only details the resolution and file format, but also shows the exact location where the image was taken. This personal metadata is more than just files — it’s information that is deeply connected to your daily life. And in the era of AI, these types of data used to provide personalised suggestions needs to be kept private.

Knox Vault helps mitigate these growing concerns by safely storing personal information in a secure, hardware-isolated environment designed to block both physical tampering and remote attacks, ensuring your data can’t be accessed without approval.

Personalised AI, Protected at the Core

Knox Vault also ensures your privacy as mobile experiences continue to evolve.

As Galaxy AI becomes more useful, it also becomes more personal, learning how you use your device and adapting to your needs. And because these highly tailored AI experiences rely on deeply personal data, Knox Vault plays a crucial role in keeping that information private and secured.

Galaxy AI ensures privacy by processing tasks directly on-device where possible, keeping data in your hands and off online servers. For example, Audio Eraser,[1] removes background noise from videos or voice recordings without the need for any cloud-based processing — so your personal information stays private. Call Transcript[2] operates in the same way, keeping your calls organised while ensuring personal conversations stay private by remaining on-device.

Knox Vault ensures your data is protected, confidential, and secure. Building on its role in Galaxy AI as the trusted foundation for security and privacy, Knox Vault will expand across Samsung’s growing AI ecosystem as AI becomes more deeply integrated into the user experience.

Knox Vault is more than a security feature, it’s Galaxy’s promise that no matter how advanced your devices become, or how much AI evolves, your privacy is more secure.

[1] Samsung account login required. Six types of sound can be detected; voices, music, wind, nature, crowd and noise. Results may vary depending on audio source & condition of the video.

[2] Samsung account login is required. Requires network connection.

Scalable Solutions Enhance Device Management

With Knox Suite Plans, businesses can optimise and securely manage their Samsung Galaxy device ecosystems, enhancing IT efficiency and empowering employees to maximise productivity throughout the device lifecycle. With its presence in UEM market, Samsung was named a Major Player in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Unified Endpoint Management Software 2024 Vendor Assessment (doc #US51234224, April 2024). Knox Suite is trusted by customers worldwide. Now more customisable than ever, Knox Suite is available in three plans:

Knox Suite – Base Plan: Included with Samsung Galaxy device purchases at no additional cost, the Knox Suite – Base Plan is ideal for businesses seeking simple and secure set-up of managed business devices. IT administrators can add Samsung devices into their Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solutions without the hassle of manual enrolment, and ensure devices and data are protected with government-grade security[2]. In addition to solutions found in the Base Plan, the Essentials Plan also features Knox Manage and Knox Remote Support – services designed to enable unified, cross-platform device management plus real-time troubleshooting support.

For businesses investing in Galaxy Enterprise Edition, a comprehensive package of business-ready mobile devices and services, it now includes a one-year Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan license at no additional cost when a one-, two-, or three-year Knox Suite license is purchased, providing even greater value.

For businesses already using other EMM solutions, Knox Suite can be integrated seamlessly into existing operations to provide deeper insights and enhanced control over Samsung Galaxy devices, allowing IT teams to optimise device performance without disrupting existing workflows. Samsung’s ongoing collaboration with leading EMM providers also guarantees increased accessibility of Knox Suite through these partner platforms, ensuring that businesses can harness the full potential of Knox Suite’s powerful features, regardless of their current IT setup.

Looking ahead, Knox Suite will continue to evolve to be even more intelligent and intuitive, empowering IT administrators with advanced tools and actionable insights while enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of their Samsung Galaxy devices to create secure, efficient mobile workspaces of the future.

[1] Offers, features, services and availability may vary by market, third-party solution and/or device.

[2] Samsung Knox has successfully met the rigorous security requirements set by Governments and major enterprises around the world, providing business users with a robust mobile security solution. https://www.samsungknox.com/en/knox-platform/knox-certifications

LONDON, UK – February 22, 2021 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd – Samsung Electronics announced today Galaxy devices will now receive regular security updates

LONDON, UK – February 22, 2021 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd – Samsung Electronics announced today Galaxy devices will now receive regular security updates for a minimum of four years after the initial phone release. By extending support for security updates delivered on a monthly, quarterly or biannual basis[1], Samsung is giving users peace of mind knowing their data is protected for as long as they use their Galaxy device.

Leading the Way in Mobile Security

Samsung prides itself in offering unmatched security to its users with Samsung Knox, its defense-grade security platform and cutting-edge technologies such as the industry’s strongest security chip, the embedded Secure Element (eSE);[2] a Secure Processor to protect against physical attacks; and the recently introduced Knox Vault, which adds another layer of security. As one of the few companies to design and develop its own products, software and services, Samsung offers true end-to-end protection, from the moment new product planning begins until a product is retired. By embedding security across every single layer of its devices, from the chip all the way up to the apps, Samsung can protect personal information in real-time and preemptively respond to increasingly advanced mobile threats.

Securing Over 130 Models

Over the past decade, Samsung has made significant progress in streamlining and speeding up its regular security updates. Samsung worked closely with its OS and chipset partners, as well as over 200 carriers around the world to ensure that billions of Galaxy devices receive timely security patches. Samsung remains committed to offering security updates as quickly as possible to always stay one step ahead and keep its users safe.

A Collaborative Approach to Mobile Security

Samsung believes openness and collaboration are critical to offering the best mobile experiences that people can trust. Samsung has worked closely with over 1,000 partners to establish security standards for all Android devices, including the first-of-its-kind regular security update program in 2015, and partnered with the broader security research community to ensure consumers have the most secure mobile experience possible.

Easily Find More of Your Devices

After completing a quick registration process, SmartThings users can easily find their Galaxy devices through their smartphone – such as other devices like tablets and smartwatches, down to each individual earbud. Whether you dropped your Galaxy Note20 Ultra behind the sofa, can’t remember where you stashed your Galaxy Buds Live, or left your Galaxy Watch3 somewhere so secure you can’t find it, the SmartThings Find service will help you keep more of your Galaxy devices safe through the easy-to-use SmartThings app.

Offline Doesn’t Mean “Off-the-Grid”

With the SmartThings Find service, you can easily locate your missing device even if it’s offline[6]. That’s because SmartThings users can now opt in to securely use their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others locate their lost devices. Once a device has been offline for 30 minutes, it produces a BLE signal that can be received by other devices[7]. If you report your device as lost via SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy smartphone or tablet that has opted into helping find misplaced devices can alert the Samsung server about its location, which will in turn notify you. All SmartThings Find user data is encrypted and securely protected, ensuring that the device’s location is not revealed to anyone except its owner.

Find Your Galaxy Faster with More Detailed Directions

Locating your missing device is a breeze with integrated map directions and the ability to “ring” a lost device to find it more quickly. When you lose a device, you can simply open SmartThings Find on your smartphone or tablet and select the device you want to locate. Your smartphone will then show you the exact location of your device on a map. Once you’re close to your device, you can chose to either have your device “ring” or locate it using the Search Nearby function6, which displays colour graphics that increase in intensity when you are getting closer to your device. For those with a Galaxy Note20 Ultra or Galaxy Z Fold2, users can also use AR-Finding for advanced search mode.

Availability

SmartThings Find is already available in the UK, however from today, a new software update for the SmartThings app will be released for Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 8 or later around the world1. In addition, from early next year, Samsung will further expand these capabilities to tracking tags, which will help users locate their favourite items, not only for Galaxy devices, but also others as well.

“We are excited to also be working closely with leading companies in the item-finding space to both expand this experience and enable you to find more of the belongings you care about most,” said Jaeyeon Jung, “We look forward to sharing more information soon.”

LONDON, UK – September 2020 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd has made significant updates to its SmartThings platform, complimenting the recent launch of a new ecosystem of powerful mobile devices, including the Galaxy Note20 Ultra, Tab S7/S7+ and Galaxy Watch3.

With over 130 million users of the free platform worldwide, SmartThings enables users to easily manage their connected devices whilst at home or on the go, all through one, simple-to-use app. The ever-expanding ecosystem, which is compatible with over 80% of smart products, receives regular system updates, maximising the user’s connected experience.

Packed with enhanced refinements and meaningful innovations, the latest update includes SmartThings Find, a new feature which easily tracks a missing device from Samsung’s ecosystem, and SmartThings Daily Board, an always-on overview of user’s connected homes which can be viewed via their tablet devices.

“At Samsung, we are committed to listening to the feedback and desires of our customers and are constantly evolving our SmartThings offering to meet these needs.” said Kyle Brown, Head of Connected Living solutions (AI & IoT), UK & IRE at Samsung Electronics. “Our latest updates reflect convenience and functionality – whether that’s finding a missing device, or using advanced automations to control your home – the aim is to give customers a simple and smart solution to every-day tasks.”

Keep track of devices with SmartThings Find

Whether it’s a smartphone or smartwatch, tablet or Buds, users can now keep all their Galaxy devices safe with one easy-to-use new feature. Via the app, SmartThings Find allows Galaxy devices[1] to be tracked and controlled remotely, which makes finding missing devices a breeze. Taken directly through to Google Maps, Find gives directions to the missing Galaxy device and once within range, uses Bluetooth to identify its specific location. Users can then use the ‘ring’ function to activate a noise from the device, to confirm it is theirs.

Not only does SmartThings Find work on products such as tablets and smartphones, but it can also differentiate smaller products such as Buds Live, recognising the left and right Bud as separate objects. This means if a user loses one earbud, SmartThings will be able to differentiate and navigate to the correct device.

As an added bonus, missing devices can also be found and located if they have lost signal or gone out of range. With SmartThings Find, customers can identify a device’s last location and use the Samsung community for support in helping to locate it. If it’s within proximity, other SmartThings users can pick up the lost device’s signal via Bluetooth and send an anonymous notification so the owner can find it with ease.

Stay organised with SmartThings Daily board

As part of the latest update, users can now access a SmartThings summary as part of their tablet’s Daily Board, offering an always-on overview of their connected home. From appliances such as ovens and fridges, to lighting and heating, this new feature provides an overview of all SmartThings compatible devices in the home, that users can control and manage in one, easy-to-use place.

For added convenience, users can dock their tablet in a communal place such as a kitchen, living room or hallway, so that the whole family can have access to the summary. This simple dashboard puts the control back into the hands of the user, allowing them to manage their home and take connected living to the next level.

Enjoy advanced control with automations and scenes

A key benefit of the SmartThings platform is automations, simplifying everyday tasks and giving the user ultimate control of their home.

Automations are built on a structure of ‘IF’ or ‘WHEN’ and ‘THEN’, creating commands for SmartThings to automatically pre-empt your requirements – for example: “IF / WHEN it is sunset, THEN turn on the lights” or “IF / WHEN motion is detected, THEN turn my light on”

With the latest iteration of Samsung SmartThings, users can now integrate local weather[2] and multiple locations into its commands to.

Weather: Users can programme automations by simply creating a command in the SmartThings app based around the weather;

For example: “IF / WHEN the window is open and the heating is on, THEN turn it off,” or ‘IF it rains and the window is open, THEN notify me.”

Locations: With the ability to now automate based on multiple locations, such as a home, office or even the pub, users can enjoy greater convenience than ever before. The opportunities are endless.

For example, users could add automations such as “WHEN’ I leave the office THEN switch on my Infinite oven to heat to 180 degrees,” or “WHEN I leave my friend’s house, THEN turn on the porch light”.

With SmartThings, users can enjoy a truly connected home and experience a wealth of benefits from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep. Offering people remote control of all their connected devices means that users can realise greater peace of mind and ease of living so they can spend more time focusing on the things that matter to them.
