LONDON – 3 March 2021 – Today Samsung announced the launch of Wildlife Watch, an ambitious new pilot that is using technology to help fight back against poaching in the African Bush. The pro-grade cameras in Samsung Galaxy S20 FE handsets will film live footage that will be streamed 24/7 from the Balule Nature Reserve in South Africa, part of the Kruger National Park. Everyone is invited to Take the Watch and become a virtual ranger, helping to protect endangered animals from poaching by monitoring them in their natural habitat and enjoy live sightings of these spectacular animals from home.

Samsung has joined forces with African technology pioneer Africam to reimagine one of its latest Galaxy mobile devices in an initiative that uses technology to help make the world a better place. Africam’s profit for purpose model means they charitably support The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit; an all-female troop who use non-violent methods to prevent poaching, which has surged during the pandemic as illegal hunters take advantage of the sudden fall in tourism. Through the Wildlife Watch initiative viewers will be closer to the work of the rangers, see the animals they protect and have the opportunity to donate to support them.

South Korean born, Berlin Based DJ, producer, and fashion designer Peggy Gou, who loves animals – especially giraffes – is fronting the initiative to champion and encourage people to take part, take the watch and raise awareness.

Four Samsung Galaxy S20 FE handsets have been installed as additional cameras in the bush, boosting the reach of the existing Africam infrastructure in the Balule Nature Reserve by over half for the duration of the pilot. The pro-grade camera in each handset is being used to film animals for the live stream. Supporting the rangers in their daily tasks, the bigger pixels, enhanced camera AI and 30x Space Zoom including 3 x Optical Zoom in the handsets have improved the quality of the photos the Black Mambas are able to take whilst on patrol. From a distance and even in low light and the unreliable conditions of the bush they can send clear and detailed images back to their base as evidence for investigations into poaching activity.

A camouflaged jeep fitted with a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE will also be used by the rangers for surveillance patrols, and the live streamed action will bring you closer to the rangers and their daily experiences.

Samsung’s Galaxy upcycling programme aims to solve social needs, lengthen product lifecycles, and reduce waste by reimagining phones into new roles. Repurposing existing products to serve a critical new function is a great way to avoid needing to create new products. As part of the Wildlife Watch initiative Samsung handsets are being redeployed by the rangers as CCTV cameras for perimeter fences, as well as adding crucial tech support to improve the rangers’ daily patrols.

By becoming a virtual ranger and taking the watch on wildlife-watch.com, you can alert rangers if you see animals in danger or signs of poaching, share what you see via snapshots on social to encourage others to take part and donate to The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit. With different camera views it’s never the same watch twice, and you might witness elephants, lions and even giraffes in the wild from your sofa.

Animal loving DJ, producer, and fashion designer Peggy Gou, said, “We all love these magnificent animals, but the harsh reality is poaching is on the rise all across Africa. It’s amazing to think a device we use every day can help tackle such an important issue. The ability to become a virtual ranger and support the incredible real-life rangers battling against poaching, is really exciting.”

Mark Notton, Senior Director Mobile, Samsung Europe said, “As our lives have become more virtual, the power that technology has to bring people together to do something good and for the benefit of everyone has never been clearer. Wildlife Watch is a truly exciting pilot, and by repurposing one of our latest handsets in this way, we hope increased eyes on these incredible animals will not only support existing surveillance and raise awareness but bring pleasure by letting people see and learn more about wildlife from home.”

Committed to using technology as an instrument for good, Wildlife Watch supports The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a plan adopted by 193 United Nations Members, by addressing Sustainable Development Goal 15 – Life on Land – of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Samsung has collaborated with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to launch an education and donation-based mobile app – Samsung Global Goals. Currently on 100M+ Galaxy smartphones worldwide it has raised more than $1.5M in donations for the UNDP and provides millions of individuals the opportunity to make the world a better place and take action to achieve the 17 Global Goals.

Wildlife Watch will be live for two months (3rd March – 2nd May 2021). During which time, Samsung hopes to bring many people’s eyes back to the animals that have been forgotten during the pandemic. To watch the live stream and help protect vulnerable animals, go to wildlife-watch.com.

• Over half of millennials rate music as their number one feel good source in 2020
• Compared to 2019, almost a quarter are listening to over five hours more of music a day
• By 2030, fans will ‘touch’ their favourite tracks, have their dogs singing along and create chart-worthy albums straight from their smartphones
• Samm Henshaw’s uplifting new track ‘All Good’ is inspired solely by a smartphone picture

LONDON, UK – 9th December, 2020 – With 54% of Brits now using music as their number one feel good source, Samsung reveals the impact of this year on millennial music habits and how technology will shape the next decade of trends.

Compared to 2019, almost a quarter are listening to over five hours more of music a day and over a third (34%) admit to their favourite playlists keeping them enthused through a tough 2020, highlighting how many are relying on music more than ever before.

Playlist preferences are changing with half (50%) saying that their music tastes are different this year, including 40% craving songs that tell a story and 43% only pressing play on tracks with a unique sound or story. What’s more, 84% have discovered seven new artists this year.

The research[1] coincides with the Samsung’s unique collaboration with UK-based soul and R&B singer, Samm Henshaw, to launch his eagerly-awaited new track ‘All Good’ (available to stream on Spotify now). Packed with feel-good lyrics and up-beat melodies, he was challenged to create new music as part of Samsung’s Inspired by a True Photo platform. This entailed him composing and recording it based solely on a photo, which was taken by a Samsung Galaxy customer and uploaded to Instagram. The chosen #withGalaxy image – which is also the single’s artwork cover – shows a grinning Indie-Pomeranian crossbreed, snapped by his owner, Ayush Luther (@black_hawk_x7), at home.

With over a third (36%) of millennial listeners wanting to hear from artists that are creative with their muses, Samm’s track is a great example of how artists are switching up their material to be in sync with the new cultural surroundings and seeking fresh inspiration as a result.

“Music is at the heart of everything I do, so it’s great to see how it’s been keeping a whole nation inspired, despite the craziness of this year. It’s also been a time for many of us to reflect and discover new interests, and I love that it’s resulted in people listening to new material and giving time to different artists. It’s this inspiration that I had when it came to composing ‘All Good’, I knew I had to bring the same happy energy to this song that I felt when I first looked at that photo. To think this could be a future trend for the music industry is so exciting – The simplicity of one photo, captured on a phone, opened my mind to new ways of songwriting and definitely something I would explore with future material” said Samm Henshaw.

Showing the acceleration of the music scene in 2020, Samsung worked with The Future Laboratory[2] to explore the innovative ways in which tech will define the next decade of millennial music:

Open-source Song – They say you should never meet your heroes, but what about working with them?

A growing number of musicians are viewing fans and consumers as partners, opening the creative process and inviting them to collaborate.

This is already happening, with artists such as Samm Henshaw using a Samsung customer’s smartphone image to inspire a whole new song. This is a mindset shift away from music consumption, towards a focus on community.

The XR Factor – Speedy 5G is reinventing music videos for the better

Thanks to the incredible speed and expert capacity of 5G, a new visual revolution is on the horizon and will end the conventional music video.

Advances in extended reality (XR) – advanced augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR) – combined with new levels of connectivity, are ushering in an era of hyper-experiential, immersive music videos that transport audiences to different worlds.

Pet Pop – From Now! to Miaow!

Eight in 10 people believe their pets like music, and almost half (46%) feel it’s a stress reliever for their furry friends – setting the scene for a new era of pet-focused music

Spotify use an algorithm to generate playlists that pets and their owners can enjoy together, though these will soon include tracks created solely for animals, designed to elicit a response from the listening pets.

Feel the Music – Want to really feel the music? Well, you’re in luck.

By 2030, advances in haptic technology – which simulates the sensation of touch through vibrations, motions and forces – will enable audiences listening at home to feel sound echo through their bodies, adding a new tangible dimension to music.

At the end of the decade, listeners may even be able to ‘touch’ a song through their smartphone screens via software which uses vibrations and friction between fingertips and screen to create realistic textures on the device.

The Smartphone Studio – Making music… can anyone do it?

By 2030 the answer will be yes, as new platforms turn teens into teen idols by empowering them to create music straight from smartphones.

New tools such as the music collaboration app Bounce are paving the way, streamlining the music creation process for amateurs and making it truly accessible. Users for tools such as this grew exponentially in lockdown, reaching 18m users across 180 countries.

Don’t bore us – get to the chorus – Swift music tracks to match our shrinking attention spans.

Our attention spans have dropped from 12 seconds to eight since 2000 and our song skipping culture has emerged in response, meaning it’s more vital for artists to hook listeners in early, load choruses up front and keep the overall track swift.

In fact, at the end of the decade it’s predicted that the average song will be a maximum of 2 minutes, putting the old three-minute pop song cliché to rest.

TikTok ’n Roll – Forget the charts – it’s all about going viral.

Musicians have long-used social media to boost fan engagement. Now, artists are embarking on a new era, creating content that’s tailored to go viral and designed explicitly with social media in mind, instead of the top 10.

Moving forwards, this optimised-for-Instagram approach when creating music will become the norm.

Medicinal Music – A song a day keeps the doctor away.

Anxiety, stress and burnout are on the rise, with music set to redefine the way we approach wellness. Whether we want to wind down or find focus, more of us are turning to music to guide our behaviour, modify our moods and enable us to solve everyday problems.

To meet this new demand, playlists for ‘horizontal listening’ will become common from a range of artists. This is a perfect blend of music and meditation audio, designed to be heard as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Let’s Get Personal – Listening experiences are getting personal.

Advances in biometric technology are facilitating a future of personalised music that responds to your heart rate or even your facial expressions.

Music and vocals by the artist will be processed by the technology to generate а soundscape that adapts in real time to the listener, as if the artist had created the track just for them.

“Samm’s latest track is both a revolution of the nation’s millennial music habits, and a reflection of how technology can inspire creativity in fresh and exciting ways. Whilst smartphones are at the heart of communication, they’re also modes of self-expression and discovery, and our Inspired by a True Photo platform enables artists like Samm to unlock new ways of creativity within both future music and the wider arts” said Sharon Hegarty, Marketing Director, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.

Alongside the track, the official ‘All Good’ music video will launch on 9th December, which is a fun and futuristic mini film that sees Samm explore a restriction free, alternate reality. Inspired by the vibrant shades of the recently launch Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, the video brings an explosion of mayhem to screens in a playful take on how a drab office setting can transform into a daydreamer’s paradise with the power of music.

LONDON, UK – 3rd December, 2020 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd has today announced a fresh and unique collaboration with UK-based soul and R&B singer, Samm Henshaw, launching ‘All Good’ which is available to stream on Spotify now.

Following the success of his US-tour, and to tease the launch of his 2021 debut album, Samm was challenged by the brand to take part in its Inspired by A true photo platform. This entailed him composing and recording a new song based solely on a photo, which was taken by a Samsung Galaxy Customer and uploaded to Instagram. The chosen #withGalaxy image – which is also the single’s artwork cover – shows a grinning Indie-Pomeranian crossbreed and is the inspiration behind ‘All Good,’ featuring feel-good lyrics and up-beat melodies synonymous with Henshaw’s style.

“This was such an exciting project, particularly over the last few months when undoubtedly peoples’ creativity may have been challenged. When I first saw the photo, it instantly made me smile and feel happy, so I knew I had to bring that same energy to ‘All Good’. The fact it’s just a photo taken on someone’s Samsung phone, not knowing the how or why, and making it the start of my creative journey is an experience I’ve never had before. I’m so grateful to Samsung for this opportunity, it has opened my mind to new ways of songwriting and definitely something I would explore with future material” said Samm Henshaw.

Alongside the track, the official ‘All Good’ music video will launch on 9th December, which is a fun and futuristic mini film that sees Samm explore a restriction free, alternate reality. Inspired by the vibrant shades of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (which launched earlier this year), the video brings an explosion of mayhem to screens in a playful take on how a drab office setting can transform into a daydreamer’s paradise with the power of music.

Samm’s photo-inspired track is the second project of Samsung’s ‘Inspired by a True Photo’ platform, based on a simple mechanic; taking a single user-generated #withGalaxy image taken on a Samsung device and making it the focus and inspiration of a creative journey.

“Samm’s latest track is a clear demonstration of how our smartphone pictures can inspire creativity in fresh and exciting ways, with Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and our Inspired by a True Photo platform. Whilst our devices are at the heart of how we communicate, they’re also modes of self-expression and discovery, and this enables us to unlock new ways of creativity with talented artists such as Samm. Camera rolls are full of images, and they could go on to inspire some amazing creations for our customers,” said Sharon Hegarty, Marketing Director, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.

Samsung tracked down the photographer, Ayush Luther (@black_hawk_x7), to find out the story behind the smiling dog picture. The star of the shot is his pet dog Bunny, who is an adorable Indie-Pomeranian crossbreed. Ayush spotted him excitingly running up the stairs of their home one sunny evening earlier this year. Straight away, he noticed the beautiful sunset falling behind him so wasted no time snapping this special moment with his favourite furry friend.

“I’ve been a Samsung customer for a while and the dynamic camera always encourages me to photograph more unexplored beauty. When I saw Bunny looking so happy and carefree, I knew I had to take his photo. Whenever I look back at this shot, it always gives me such positive energy and puts a big smile on my face. I can’t believe my dog and a picture on my phone has inspired a whole song and music video, my family and I are big fans of ‘All Good’ already!” said Ayush Luther.

LONDON, UK – 28th October 2020 – Samsung is proud to have supported the seventh instalment of the START art exhibition. The exhibition took place at London’s iconic Saatchi Gallery between Wednesday 21st and Sunday 25th October 2020 and bought together the best of global contemporary art. Samsung technology, including the immersive screen The Wall, and the impeccably stylish lifestyle TVs, The Frame and The Serif allowed visitors to enjoy an immersive art experience. These ground-breaking digital canvas displays further closed the gap between traditional contemporary art and technology.

“As technology evolves, the art world is embracing digital innovations with revolutionary effects” explained Damon Crowhurst, Head of Display at Samsung UK. “Art is, by nature, a very visual experience and display technology has the power to offer viewers even greater immersion. By supporting the START exhibition, Samsung truly showed how technology has the ability to enhance art and expand its global reach in the future.”

A key highlight of this year’s START exhibition was the David Bowie 20/20 Vision presentation. This exclusive, never-before-seen collection by award winning, British photographer and friend of Bowie, was selected by the man himself on set and intended to be a reflection of Bowie’s own inner image. The images were both powerful and poignant and were bought to life using Samsung’s Micro LED Wall technology.

Creating impact with The Wall

A variety of handpicked images from the collection were displayed at scale using Samsung’s three-metre-high installation “The Wall”, which provided extraordinary picture quality with striking contrast and lifelike colours. Featuring innovative technology, this immersive screen delivered awe-inspiring visual experiences at breath taking scale, with stunning detail. It used pristine, precise colours, pin sharp clarity and slim, bezel-less design to effectively showcase the David Bowie 20/20 vision, to deliver an impactful visual experience.

Presenting works perfectly with The Frame

Other images from the collection were also displayed on Samsung’s impeccably stylish lifestyle TVs, The Frame and The Serif. Both TVs offered spectacular display in stunning QLED 4K quality with over a billion cinematic colours, certified to provide 100% Colour Volume in Full HD resolution. What’s more, The Frame featured a No-Gap Wall Mount, meaning when in Art Mode, the TV turned into an illusion of a real-life hanging piece of art, with pin sharp detailing on the artwork.

Channeling an iconic look with The Serif

Echoing the iconic nature of the David Bowie 20/20 vision, The Serif has a totally unique design with its slim body broadening at the top to form a flat shelf-like surface. The iconic ‘I’ shaped design is the focal point of any room, which was certainly the case at the START exhibition, but crucially it didn’t compromise on quality. Viewers experienced genuine cinematic viewing thanks to over a billion colours and shades, the 100% colour volume transformed light into breath-taking colour, without degradation over time.

Supporting the exhibition further with Samsung technology

In addition to showcasing some of the spectacular art, Samsung technology also featured at the exhibition in other ways. The Samsung Flip, an interactive digital flip chart, displayed gallery information and floorplans and showcased the new STARTnet app. Visitors were able to ask questions and interact with both the Samsung Flip and the brand’s folding-screen phones with one of Samsung’s on site mobile trainers. They could also experience the brand’s folding-screen phones in the STARTnet Lounge and Innovation Hub. These included the Fold2, Note20 Ultra, S20 FE, S20 5G, Flip 5G, S20+ 5G, A51 5G.

I hope this series of looks influenced by the new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE inspires others to keep being creative to boost spirits as we head into winter.”

“It has been an absolute pleasure to collaborate with RJ Tulloch on her awe-inspiring creations. She has always been a Samsung fan and it shines through in her work” commented Sharon Hegarty, IM Marketing Director at Samsung UK & Ireland. “The Galaxy S20FE range is all about playfulness, self-expression and bold colour, which RJ has beautifully captured in her poppy make-up looks and illusions. I for one am going to be trying out some of these colourful palettes myself!”

Try it out on Snapchat! Before you go straight to your makeup palette to try out these bold new looks, we have just what you need. With the new Snapchat lens in collaboration with RJ, you can explore, try on and find which Samsung Galaxy S20 FE colour inspired look suits you best.

Get the RJ Tulloch Looks

Cloud Navy: Confidence

“Confidence shines in the way the blue blends into the forehead with this look. Combine bold, blown out navy eye makeup with small gems or glitter for a glam effect, and combine with a nude lip.”

DIY – how to:

Taking a dark blue eyeshadow shade, pat on the outer section of the lid and blur out up past the brow and towards the forehead. Continue to diffuse and add more shadow where needed.

Add 1-2 more shades of blue eyeshadow on the middle of the lid and inner corners to create a nice gradient.

Once both eyes match, add gems or glitter to really make the look shout. This makeup look is very confident so go all out!

Cloud Red: Passion

“This look focuses on strong red tones, as a statement colour for passion. I’ve focused on deep red eye makeup tones, and a glossy red lip.”

DIY – how to:

Pat the base cream all over the lid.

Take a red eyeshadow palette and swirl the deepest red into the crease, diffusing it with the lightest red

Take a flat headed brush and define your cut crease with the base

Choose a shimmer of choice, I went for 3 different shades

Complete with liner and lashes

Add a bold red lip (or nude lip if you want your eyes to pop!)

Cloud Lavender: Free Spirited

“Being a free spirit is to be independent, not a trend follower and a believer in your own decisions. This look embodies these qualities in a loud but understated way.”

DIY – how to:

Prep your eyes by patting on a generous amount of base cream so all eyeshadow colours will pop

Taking a dark purple shade, apply this right into the crease and blend outwards to create a blowout look

Now taking a light lilac shade, blend this out from the inner corner to create a bright eye effect

Take the base cream again, this time on a small angled brush, and draw your liner shape

Take a small shadow packing brush and apply eyeshadow colour of your choice on top of the base liner outline

Add lashes

For the flower addition, take a small detail brush and make small dots in a circle, then drag each dot out a little to make a small petal like shape. Repeat as needed.

Set the look with your favourite lippy and setting spray!

Cloud Orange: Energetic

“A vibrant look with bright eyes and cheeks – resembling lightening. Combine with an orange top for energetic and confident vibes!”

DIY – how to:

Apply base cream in white or any other concealer-based product all over the lid, no need to make it neat as this look doesn’t require tidy lines!

Take an orange eyeshadow palette and small detailed brush, then swirl zig zag lines all over the lid, and draw what looks like little bits of lightning

With the same small detail brush, add a deeper shade of the orange to the waterline and lash line.

Add your favourite lashes!

Cloud Mint: Focus

“I wanted to create a look that draws attention to the central point of the face. Water and the dropping of a bead creates a focused splash, and the striking eyeliner completes the look”

DIY – how to:

Start with your base and brows ready, as water illusions are always a final touch to the look!

Take the base cream and draw out the liner, then fill this in with eyeshadow for a super bold wing

Started the water illusion by drawing out the bowl shape first, using white liner. Make the edges uneven to match natural water flow in a bowl

Take some deep eyeshadow shades to add depth, then use a small detail brush to shade in

Gradually add small white bubbles to the water and above to really give a true 3D effect

As soon as you’re happy, stop! It’s always easy to carry on but the knack is to know when it’s finished

Cloud White: Dedication

“Butterflies are hardworking species and always compared to growth. The idea of the ladders leading up to the clouds represent the determination to aim high and reach goals”

DIY – how to:

Pat base cream on the face and chest, then I add dotted areas of blue and cream shadow to look like an ethereal sky

Taking a flat head brush, use a white base cream and make cloud patterns around the face and chest, adding grey shadow for depth

Using ink liner, draw the butterflies and ladders, and use eyeshadow to add even more details

As a final 3D touch, add pieces of cotton wool over the clouds to really bring out the dimensions, and gives an extra ‘wow’ factor
