LONDON, England – June 17th, 2020 – Despite being asked to stay at home, Brits are keeping positive and challenging themselves to stay motivated by trying new things, with yoga revealed as one of the top three hobbies being tried for the first time during recent months. To encourage people to stay active during this time, Samsung is partnering with leading wellness enthusiast Cat Meffan, to deliver a series of virtual yoga sessions, for people to enjoy from home at their own pace.

New research commissioned by Samsung[1] has revealed Brits are upping the ante on their health and fitness routine, with over a third now focussing more on their wellbeing and 29% having a new interest in mindful activities to distract from the outside world.

Amongst the Yogis, there has also been an abundance of new runners, cyclists and walkers, with a quarter of the population still hitting an average of 2,000 steps a day and making the most of their outdoor time. But it’s not just outdoor activities, almost half of Brits are now exercising from the comfort of their own home, with one in five intending to continue these home workouts once the restrictions lift.

Technology has also played a key role in getting the nation active with almost a quarter feeling inspired by online fitness classes or using smart devices to track their progress. Downloadable apps like Samsung Health easily facilitate this, with users able to set personalised targets, get expert advice, workout inspiration and virtually compete with friends from their phone or smartwatch to keep the motivation going.

As a result, Samsung and Cat Meffan have teamed up to enhance the UK’s wellbeing movement by offering the ultimate virtual yoga experience, hosted on the Samsung KX digital website. The three-part series kicks off from the 18th June at 8:30am and is completely free to join, allowing guests to tap in from the comfort of home.

“I’m really excited to be partnering with Samsung to host my virtual yoga sessions for those seeking a fix of movement and mindfulness. Beyond fitness and wellbeing, connection is needed now more than ever before, and I’m so glad that this digital hub on the Samsung KX website will allow us all to virtually come together, feel inspired to take part, and follow Samsung’s amazing ethos of Do What You Can’t” said Cat Meffan, leading wellness enthusiast and host of the digital classes.

The virtual sessions will cover all levels, so anyone can join along at their own pace, from the comfort of their own home. Cat Meffan will use Samsung’s ecosystem of products, including Samsung S20 Ultra, Galaxy Watch Active2 and Buds+ to guide viewers through a Yoga for Beginner’s session, followed by Yoga for Strength and Vinyasa Flow classes.

Show was filmed live on the new phones and streamed live to digital screens around the UK

Concert will form basis of a unique three-part ad to be screened during next week’s Brit Awards

Hitmaker Lewis Capaldi brought a busy London market hall to a standstill today as the multi-Brit nominee rocked up to play an unannounced lunchtime concert.

The free performance was staged and filmed by Samsung to mark the launch of its new flagship Samsung Galaxy S20 phone range. The story of the concert will be told in a special three-part TV ad which is to be broadcast during the breaks in ITV’s coverage of the Brit Awards on Tuesday 18 February.

Capaldi delighted onlookers with an impromptu 30 minute long ‘greatest hits’ set at the busy Seven Dials Market in Covent Garden, which was teeming with shoppers and diners.

Accompanied by his keyboard player, the unassuming superstar treated the crowd to hits such as Bruises and recent number one single Before You Go as he began his show at 1pm sharp.

Capaldi’s unique 30-minute set peaked with a euphoric finale featuring a mass singalong of huge hit Someone You Loved with more than 500 onlookers singing the chorus back to him.

The impromptu show was officially announced just a matter of minutes before Lewis began his unforgettable performance. By the close of the concert the market was at capacity with 500 lucky people in attendance as word spread about what was unfolding.

In a world first, Capaldi’s performance was captured on a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and live-streamed to the world-famous screen at nearby Piccadilly Circus in a 30-minute takeover. Passers-by who gathered at the tourist hub were able to watch in IMAX quality thanks to the brilliant recording capabilities of the new Galaxy S20 Ultra. The show was also beamed to other London screens, including two at Westfield White City, Samsung KX and the Samsung Experience Store.

Lewis Capaldi said today: “ I was very excited to be invited by Samsung to shout at some passers-by during their lunch break, I’m sure no one expected to be feasting their eyes on such a handsome snack (me)”

Sharon Hegarty, Marketing Director from Samsung UK said:

“Lewis is a performer like no other – just like the new Galaxy S20; so it was fitting to be able to bring them together. We’re pleased to be able to finally introduce the new Galaxy S20 range to the public, and it’s great to partner with Lewis to celebrate this moment with an unforgettable and unrepeatable gig.

Lewis has a totally unique presence both on his social channels and on stage. We are so excited to capture him in perfect detail on the Galaxy S20, which delivers a camera like no other”.

The new Galaxy S20 range, available in Galaxy 20, S20+5G and S20 Ultra 5G, was revealed on February the 11th and is now available to pre-order. The product will be widely available in Samsung stores from the 13th of March.

With four cameras, the S20 range boasts features that allow users to capture video and photography like never before.

Ground Breaking Zoom Capability: S20 Ultra’s Space Zoom feature offers an incredible 100x zoom helps you get that perfect shot even if you are at the back row at a gig or sports match

Single Take: Single Take takes all the hassle out of nailing your shots. One press of a button creates a suite of images and video, perfect for sharing

Pro-Grade Filming Capability: The Galaxy S20 offers 8K video shooting, so users can capture their world in true-to-life colour and quality
