LONDON, U.K. – Dec. 5, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the public release of the One UI 7 beta program, boasting powerful AI features, simplified controls and a preview of scalable AI ecosystems of the future. One UI 7 marks a significant leap forward by integrating leading AI agents and multimodal capabilities into every touch point of the interface, creating an AI platform where every interaction feels natural and intuitive. The beta program offers a first look at an upgraded mobile user experience for greater personalisation than ever before.

Enhanced AI Enables More Intuitive User Experiences

One UI 7 brings powerful updates to Galaxy AI features[1] including advanced writing assist tools. Integrated into AI OS, they allow users to boost their productivity where texts can be selected, without needing to switch between applications. This capability expands on the powerful writing assist tools already available to Galaxy users, offering AI-powered options to summarise content, check spelling and grammar, and automatically format notes into bullet points.

Upgraded call features with One UI 7 push the boundaries of communication and connection through call transcripts , with support for 20 languages[2]. When call recording is enabled, recorded calls will automatically be transcribed for reference later on, eliminating the need to take notes manually while multi-tasking.

Bold New Design for Greater Personalisation and Control

One UI 7’s powerful AI features come with a significant new look, based on a new notification system that streamlines communication with easy access from the device’s lock screen. It includes Now Bar, which highlights relevant activities across various features like Interpreter, Music, Recording, Stopwatch and more. By offering instant access to important notifications, Now Bar reduces the need to constantly unlock the device and allows users to engage with key information effortlessly. Set to be supported on upcoming Galaxy S series devices, Now Bar will transform the lock screen experience, which will continue to evolve with more intelligent experiences in the future.

These feature upgrades are all anchored in a simple, impactful and emotive design. Together, these principles shape streamlined and cohesive experiences for Galaxy users. Defined by bold, iconic design choices, One UI 7 reduces visual clutter and fosters an inviting experience designed to resonate with users on a personal level and enable intuitive mobile experiences across AI features.

A simplified home screen, redesigned One UI widgets, and lock screen—among other features—work together to grant users granular control over every detail and make customisation intuitive and seamless.

A redesigned camera UX allows more intuitive control over advanced settings. Camera buttons, controls, and modes have been reorganised to make it easier to find the features you need and to give you a clearer preview of the picture you’re taking or the video you’re recording.

For Pro and Pro video modes, the manual settings layout has also been simplified, making it easier to focus on the picture or video you’re shooting. A new zoom control is available when you’re recording in Pro video mode, allowing you to control the zoom speed for smooth transitions.

The official One UI 7 release will commence with upcoming Galaxy S series devices, featuring additional AI capabilities including enhanced on-device AI functions, starting from the first quarter of 2025. In line with Samsung’s commitment to extend its OS upgrade policy, the update will gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices.

The One UI 7 beta program will be first available for Galaxy S24 series devices in Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the UK, and the U.S., from December 5. Galaxy S24 series users can apply to join the beta program via Samsung Members.

[1] Screen image simulated for illustrative purposes. Actual UX/UI may vary.

[2] Supporting total of 20 languages including local dialects: Arabic, Chinese (China mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan), English (Australia, India, United Kingdom, United States), Dutch, French (Canada, France), German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil, Europe), Romanian, Russian, Spanish (Mexico, Spain, United States), Swedish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.

LONDON, U.K. – Sept. 26, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today unveiled the Galaxy S24 FE, the latest addition to the Galaxy AI[1] ecosystem that delivers premium mobile experiences to more users.

Powered by the AI-based ProVisual Engine and Galaxy AI’s Photo Assist features, Galaxy S24 FE showcases an enhanced camera setup that empowers users to be more creative. It’s the perfect device for gaming on the go with a 6.7-inch[2] Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, a long-lasting 4,700mAh battery, and a powerful Exynos 2400 series chipset. The Galaxy S24 FE offers premium Galaxy AI tools and ecosystem connectivity to enhance communication, productivity and creativity — all housed in an iconic design and protected by robust Samsung Knox security.

“We are committed to offering everyone the chance to experience the transformative power of Galaxy AI. Our new Galaxy S24 FE underlines this commitment, giving more users the opportunity to enjoy a premium mobile experience, designed to unlock next-level creativity and enhance productivity. With a range of standout colours for customers to match to their individual styles, this is the perfect entry-level device into our Galaxy AI ecosystem.”, said Annika Bizon, Director of Marketing, Omnichannel & Head of Ireland – MX Division

Unlock Creativity With AI-enhanced Camera and Editing

Galaxy S24 FE makes it easy for anyone to shoot stunning photos and videos. Its premium camera setup features a 50MP wide lens and 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom — both supported by optical image stabilisation (OIS) — plus a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP selfie camera.

The camera system’s capabilities are further elevated by Samsung’s dynamic ProVisual Engine, an AI-driven camera engine that takes visual quality to incredible heights. Making its debut in the FE series, ProVisual Engine features vastly improved technology that leverages advanced AI algorithms to deliver breathtaking detail and remarkably subtle textures:

Nightography with AI image signal processing (ISP) to improve low light performance, enabling beautiful night portraits.

Works with the wide camera’s 50MP Adaptive Pixel Sensor to enable optical-quality performance at zoom levels from 2x in addition to the optical 3x zoom. AI zoom also provides the enhanced image quality at distances between digital zoom lengths.

Object-Aware Engine to recognise scenes and optimise colors in Super High Dynamic Range (HDR), ensuring vibrant and lifelike photos and videos.

When it is time to edit, Photo Assist features breathe life into ideas. Since its introduction with the Galaxy S24 series devices, Galaxy AI has become invaluable for editing images and expressing creativity:

The powerful Exynos 2400 series chipset enables an uncompromised gaming experience compatible with cutting-edge features such as Ray Tracing. In the world where every bit of speed and efficiency counts, the Galaxy S24 FE utilises several key features to stay ahead of the competition:

A 1x larger vapour chamber[7] improves cooling to maintain peak performance for longer durations.

Samsung Electronics allowed fans to immerse themselves into the 2024 Paris Olympics sailing competition held in the French port city of Marseille. Through the Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones installed on each boat, fans experienced the race as if they were alongside their favourite athletes — battling the elements together in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

Samsung implemented optimised software and technology to support filming and transmitting this first-of-its-kind footage in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and other Olympic partners.

Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones were installed on the boats used in the sailing events. For kitesurfing and windsurfing, Galaxy smartphones were attached to each athlete’s shoulder and buoys in the water. With this new viewing experience, sailing fans never missed a beat.

This presented a whole new set of challenges and months of research, development and testing – in close collaboration with the OBS and other Olympic tech partners – to guarantee video quality and connectivity performance across various bodies of water and weather conditions, which can be really windy with huge waves or extremely hot and sunny. Samsung and its partners addressed these challenges by leveraging the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical image stabilisation (OIS) features, increasing transmission power, and installing relay towers on chase boat to ensure a seamless livestream experience for viewers.

In line with the 2024 Paris Olympics vision of a “Games Wide Open,” Samsung is dedicated to bringing a more immersive experience to fans around the world.

We are at the beginning of one of the most exciting and historic moments in technology. The era of mobile AI is here – which for Samsung arrived with

We are at the beginning of one of the most exciting and historic moments in technology. The era of mobile AI is here – which for Samsung arrived with the introduction of Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy S24 series, our first AI phone.

Revolutionising Mobile Experiences with a Hybrid AI Approach

To bring the real-life benefits of generative AI technology to the Galaxy S24 series, we took a hybrid approach to our AI integration. AI offers so many possibilities, and we believe mobile devices are the primary access point for unlocking its potential as users around the globe continue to rely on their phones for most of their day-to-day needs.

The essential role that mobile devices play in everyday life means they are very personal items that people use during many critical and memorable moments. We understand these behaviours and believe smartphones should work harder so that users can truly make the most of important moments in a simpler, more intuitive, and more epic way. We also recognise the importance of privacy which is why we give users full control over what they share and what they keep private.

We believe our hybrid approach is the most practical and reliable solution to meet all these needs and puts Samsung ahead of the curve. We are providing users with a balance between the instant responsiveness and extra privacy assurance of on-device AI, and the versatility of cloud-based AI through open collaborations with industry-leading partners in offering a variety of functions they need for daily life.

Expanding Possibilities with On-device AI

We made the ‘Live Translate’ feature on-device AI-based, because voice calls are the most basic feature of a smartphone, yet also an intimate and private means of communication. Samsung has committed to empowering users to communicate without language barriers, while at the same time ensuring every communication is safe and private.

To make this feature a reality, our R&D team worked day and night as part of a collaborative process that truly brought out the best in our teams. From determining the right size of AI language models, to training and testing in real-life scenarios, our R&D organisations within the MX business challenged themselves and pushed beyond the limits of what we thought was possible to get this feature running entirely on-device.

Samsung’s global R&D networks around the world, which are in charge of growing the best talents and developing core technologies in each region, have also played a pivotal role. Samsung Research Centres around the globe, including Poland, China, India and Vietnam have dedicated themselves to developing and expanding the languages supported by Galaxy AI. Languages are very cultural, contemporary, and localised so to help people break down language barriers and communicate more naturally, the role of our local R&D offices is even more crucial in opening up new possibilities for users in more regions than ever before.

All these efforts have enabled Samsung to offer something completely new which I’m excited to share. Soon, Samsung is extending the power of Galaxy AI beyond Samsung’s own native calling app by expanding Live Translate to other third-party message apps to support voice calls. So you can stay in contact with friends or colleagues, communicating on your favourite apps in multiple languages.

And since this feature has been integrated into our on-device AI language translation model, users will be able to experience barrier-free communication without worrying about privacy issues like personal data being shared outside their phone when using Live Translate.

I expect that more and more mobile AI features will be incorporated inside mobile devices as the intelligent computing power of the latest chips – particularly NPUs – advances at a blazing-fast speed, along with other technologies. This will enable more people to embrace AI and make every day more convenient while offering greater peace of mind.

Growing Galaxy AI for Tomorrow’s Needs, Today

This exciting news is all part of the extension of our commitment to Galaxy AI and entering the next phase of the mobile AI era. The introduction of Galaxy AI on Galaxy S24 series was only the start. To deliver a completely new and unique AI experience, we will further optimise the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices. Our foldables are the most versatile and flexible form factor in Samsung Galaxy and when combined with Galaxy AI, these two complementary technologies will together unlock all new possibilities.

Samsung is also committed to expanding Galaxy AI experiences across the broader Galaxy ecosystem in a way that only Samsung can. As the mobile AI era moves forward at a rapid pace, Samsung is accelerating mobile AI innovations to meet the needs of not only today, but tomorrow.

Samsung is on a journey to harness the power of technology to improve the world we live in. To celebrate Earth Day, Samsung would like to reflect on how we’re advancing our mission— whether we’re increasing the use of recycled materials in our Galaxy mobile devices or collaborating with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Finding the Balance between Innovation and the Environment

Samsung is reimagining how Galaxy technology is designed and packaged to do more with less when it comes to our planet’s natural resources. For the last decade, we have worked to innovate high-performance components that are made with recycled materials.

We took an important step in 2022 when we incorporated recycled discarded fishing nets, also known as ghost nets, in the Galaxy S22 series. Recycled materials can now be found in all Galaxy mobile products, including smartphones, tablets, PCs and wearables[1]. At the same time, we have expanded our use to a greater variety of materials, from several different types of plastics to metals and glass.

Visualising how the Galaxy S24 series is designed and packaged to do more with less for people and the planet

Galaxy S24 continues to scale the variety of recycled materials in Galaxy devices by applying recycled plastics, glass and aluminium to internal and external components[2]. It also takes these efforts one step further. For the first time, Galaxy S24 features components made with recycled cobalt and rare earth elements[3]. In Galaxy S24 Ultra, a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt was used in the battery[4], and 100% recycled rare earth elements were incorporated into the speakers[5].

Samsung has a long history of addressing the pervasive challenge of plastic waste through our recycled material innovations, and recycled plastics continue to play an important role in the Galaxy S24 series. The Galaxy S24 series maintains our use of recycled plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets, water barrels and PET bottles.

The recycled ocean-bound plastic[6] material was created in partnership with global organisations who collected discarded fishing nets abandoned near the oceans. Together, we separated, cleaned and extruded the nets’ properties before optimising them into high-performance, recycled polyamide pellets. Similarly, the recycled polycarbonate and PET materials are sourced from discarded water barrels and PET bottles that we grind, filter and melt down with other additives. This process helps us transform these fragile resources into high-performance optimised materials that uphold Samsung’s state-of-the-art design and high-quality standards. We also teamed up with other organisations to upcycle discarded Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) that was generated from shoe manufacturing.

This is a culmination of our continued efforts with our partners to transform fragile plastic wastes into high performance material used in Galaxy devices. Through the Galaxy S24 series, we aim to use nearly 100 metric tons of recycled plastics[7] by the end of 2024, which is equivalent to 10 million empty plastic bottles[8].

When it comes to recycled metal, the Galaxy S24 series incorporates recycled aluminum[9] that originates from scrap metal generated during manufacturing. The aluminum scrap is re-melted, filtered for impurities and then recycled to make components within Samsung’s product development process. The Galaxy S24 series has the potential to utilise around 110 metric tons of recycled aluminum by the end of 2024, which is the equivalent of 9 million soda cans[10].

Additionally, the Galaxy S24 series comes in a packaging box made using 100% recycled paper material. By the end of 2024, we hope to use 2,760 metric tons of recycled paper, which is equivalent of 552 million pieces of A4 paper[11]. If stacked on top of one another, that would be approximately the same height as 71 Burj Khalifas[12], which is the tallest building in the world.

From the smallest components to the newest, most premium features, the Galaxy S24 series represents a significant stride in Samsung’s ongoing commitment to utilising recycled materials in its smartphones. This work could help us shift to more circular designs and build technology that supports a more sustainable future.

For more than 50 years, Samsung Electronics and Corning Incorporated have demonstrated Samsung’s commitment to Openness by collaborating on innovative display materials that offer remarkable durability and clarity to Galaxy users. On the recently launched Galaxy S24 Ultra, that collaboration reached new heights with Corning® Gorilla® Armor. Launched exclusively on Galaxy S24 Ultra, this is the most scratch-resistant, optically advanced Gorilla® Glass ever made. For the first time, we’re taking you behind the scenes to see first-hand the technical precision and advanced engineering that goes into producing this incredible material.

Corning® Gorilla® Armor relies on an extremely precise layering process to achieve its superior anti-reflective properties. The layers are applied at nano-meter level precision – thinner than a human hair – onto the glass surface. The result is a one-of-a-kind display material that dramatically reduces glare by up to 75 percent, enhancing display readability and minimising screen reflections in almost any environment1. That means bright sun and harsh overhead lights are no match for Galaxy S24 Ultra. This layering process also incorporates a durable layer for greater protection against micro-scratches that can occur during everyday use and build up over time. In Corning lab tests, Gorilla Armor was more than four times more scratch resistant than competitive aluminosilicate cover glasses.[1]

To make it all possible, vacuum deposition systems in an ultra-clean environment, the same technology used in semiconductor manufacturing, are adopted. Check out the video to get an exclusive look into this world of innovation as the new Corning® Gorilla® Armor for Galaxy S24 Ultra comes to life.

The era of mobile AI has come, and early adopters are already riding the waves of the latest innovation. To fuel the conversation, Samsung has made significant updates to the Try Galaxy app to offer Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist, Photo Assist and Circle to Search with Google — so that those still on the fence can experience Galaxy AI without changing phones.

Previously tailored to iOS users, the Try Galaxy app is now available on all Android devices including Galaxy[1] models for the first time. This means more users can explore the latest features of the Galaxy S24 series and One UI 6.1.

All things considered, it may be high time to give Try Galaxy… a try.
