Samsung Electronics today announced that Samsung Galaxy XR will launch in the UK this year. Built on the Android XR platform developed by Google and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, Galaxy XR introduces a new category of AI-native devices designed to deliver immersive experiences.

Galaxy XR is optimised for multimodal AI interactions, where users can explore both virtual and real worlds delivering natural and intuitive interactions through voice, vision and gesture. The extended reality device in the form of a headset is designed to support immersive experiences across work, entertainment and discovery[1].

The introduction follows a recent software update that expands both everyday usability and enterprise capabilities, building on the platform first introduced in October 2025.

New dimensions of discovery and entertainment

Features designed to make digital experiences feel more connected to real life and unlock new levels of immersion. These include:

Travel and search with Google Maps: Users can explore the world in stunning 3D with Immersive View, use Gemini as a guide to navigate to any place on Google Maps and ask for personalised suggestions about nearby places while exploring the world in immersive 3D[2].

Deep-dive into content with AI: With YouTube, users can dive into the world’s largest library of immersive 180 and 360-degree VR content, or check out the new spatial tab with content that creators have converted to 3D. As users are watching videos, they can naturally ask Gemini about what they see and get more information about the video they are watching, unlocking richer learning and discovery experiences3.

See more with video pass through and Circle to Search[3]: In pass through mode, users can see the physical world around them and draw a circle with their hand to instantly search for information about anything in front of them.

Auto-spatialize videos and photos into 3D[4]: Bring photos and videos to life, turning memories into immersive experiences or reimagining them in entirely new ways.

Immersive viewing experiences: Users can stream their favourite shows on a 4K Micro-OLED screen that feels like a personal theatre.

Powered by Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 2 platform[5]: Galaxy XR combines advanced AI processing, immersive sound and ultra-high-resolution displays to place users at the centre of extended worlds optimised for XR.

With up to 2.5 hours of battery life[6], users can stay immersed for longer.

Enterprise capabilities via Android Enterprise support

Galaxy XR supports Android Enterprise, enabling organisations to deploy and manage devices using established Android management frameworks.

With enterprise-grade controls, security features, and deployment options like managed application distribution and device enrolment, IT admins can reliably deploy devices for use cases across retail, healthcare, and manufacturing, sectors where immersive environments are increasingly being explored for training, productivity, and collaboration.

Annika Bizon, Vice President, Product and Marketing, Mobile Experience, Samsung UK & Ireland, commented:

“The UK launch of Galaxy XR marks a significant milestone for Samsung, introducing a new category of AI-native devices. Our ongoing collaboration with Google and Qualcomm Technologies reflects our long-held belief that an open ecosystem accelerates innovation and creates seamless, connected experiences across the Galaxy ecosystem.

Consumers want technology that is intuitive and enhances their entertainment experiences, whilst organisations across sectors from healthcare to manufacturing are beginning to explore what immersive environments can do for productivity and collaboration. Galaxy XR is designed to meet both of those needs.”

Samsung has confirmed continued software and security support for Galaxy XR, reflecting Samsung and its partners’ commitment to platform development for Android XR devices.[7]

The latest update follows Samsung’s initial launch of Galaxy XR in October 2025 as the first device built on the Android XR platform.

Samsung Electronics, together with global healthcare company Abbott, is bringing immersive extended reality (XR) experiences to blood donation scenery, using Galaxy XR to make the process more comfortable and engaging for donors.

On June 2, Samsung and Abbott partnered with the Korean Red Cross to conduct Korea’s first XR-powered blood donation campaign at Samsung Digital City in Suwon. In the campaign held in recognition of World Blood Donor Day, Samsung employees experienced immersive meditation content while donating blood, with Korean Red Cross personnel on-site throughout the event.

Following the XR-powered blood donation campaign in Korea, Samsung and Abbott are preparing to expand the program through upcoming activations at major global events in the United States and Malaysia. These efforts aim to bring the Galaxy XR donation experience to more donors, healthcare professionals and blood bank stakeholders around the world.

▲ Samsung employees use Galaxy XR while donating blood during the campaign at Samsung Digital City.

Enhancing the Blood Donation Experience

After putting on Galaxy XR, donors enter a calming, Zen garden-inspired environment. Using only gaze-based interaction — no controllers, no hand gestures — they plant virtual flower seeds simply by looking at them. Over three to five minutes, flowers and trees bloom around them as music created in collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra plays in the background.

“As the boundary between the physical and digital worlds continues to blur, blood donation no longer has to be a stressful experience,” said James Pak, VP of the Global Mobile B2B Team at Samsung Electronics. “Through this initiative, we hope to demonstrate how Galaxy XR can extend beyond entertainment and productivity to create lasting social value.”

“Samsung Galaxy XR, powered by Android XR, represents a significant advancement for our mixed reality blood donation program,” said Miguel Carrazza of the Transfusion Medicine division at Abbott. “It is well-suited for healthcare settings, allowing medical staff to monitor donors more easily while helping them stay naturally engaged. Through our partnership with Samsung, Abbott is seeking opportunities to further expand the overall blood donation experience.”

Expanding Access to XR-Powered Donation

Since 2016, Abbott and Red Cross organizations have conducted blood donation campaigns in nearly 30 countries. Building on that foundation, Samsung and Abbott have introduced Galaxy XR into donation settings across multiple countries, with momentum growing ahead of major upcoming events.

▲ (From left) Samsung employees Geunwoo Park and Gangsu Kim participate in the blood donation campaign.

“I try to donate blood at least once a year, but it can feel a little boring since you have to sit still,” said Geunwoo Park of the Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, who donated during the campaign. “Using Galaxy XR made it more enjoyable because there was something engaging to watch.”

“It was a unique experience to try Galaxy XR while donating blood,” said Gangsu Kim of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, making his 20th blood donation. “I found the interactive content especially fascinating because it responded to where I was looking.”

Looking Ahead

The initiative continues to scale. At Augmented World Expo (AWE) in Long Beach, California, running June 15–18, Samsung and Abbott will host a four-day blood drive, bringing the Galaxy XR donation experience to thousands of attendees from across the XR ecosystem. Later in June, the initiative will be showcased at the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where more than 100 blood bank decision-makers from around the world will have the opportunity to share the use cases.

Through these engagements, Samsung and Abbott are working to expand access to XR-powered donation experiences for donors, healthcare professionals and blood bank organizations worldwide.

London, UK – Jan. 21, 2026 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. returns today to BETT 2026, the world’s largest education exhibition, taking place from 21-23 January at ExCeL London, where it will showcase its vision of connected learning for every mind and demonstrate how technology can support both teachers and students across a wide range of learning and classroom needs.

Ben Yoon, President, Samsung UK & Ireland, says, “Connected learning for every mind is about showing how technology can adopt to a wide range of learning needs and classroom environments. We believe in helping teachers set students up for success at different stages of their lives and Samsung’s vision is to work closely with schools across the UK to solve classroom challenges with practical, scalable solutions. Through our innovation & AI enabled devices, we can empower partners & educators to provide inclusive learning experiences to unlock every student’s potential. Alongside programmes like Solve for Tomorrow, we are empowering young people to develop future-ready skills and use technology to solve real-world problems.”

With more than 35,000 education professionals and over 600 companies expected to attend, Samsung’s presence at BETT 2026 reinforces its commitment to the UK education sector and its role as a trusted partner in delivering connected, future-ready learning solutions.

Corporate Vice President – Mobile Division, Samsung UK & Ireland, Richard Chang, says, “Today’s classrooms thrive when teachers are empowered to collaborate deeply and create engaging, flexible learning environments. At BETT, we’re showcasing how our connected ecosystem can support those environments in practice. The Galaxy Book6 Series, our tablets and Galaxy XR make up a part of an intelligent ecosystem designed to simplify lessons and collaboration across the classroom.

“By integrating AI-enabled devices and immersive technologies, educators spend less time managing technology and more time teaching, while students benefit from more inclusive ways to learn. It’s a clear demonstration of how connected, versatile solutions can work intelligently to transform teaching and learning.”

Connected Learning For Every Mind

At BETT 2026, Samsung will demonstrate how its education ecosystem is designed to support learners and educators at every stage, from primary and secondary through to further and higher education.

Samsung’s versatile, AI-enabled devices are built to support different learning styles, abilities and teaching approaches, helping create more inclusive classrooms where technology adapts to people, not the other way around. By connecting devices to a wider ecosystem, Samsung enables smarter, more collaborative ways to learn without adding complexity for educators.

Devices That Work Better Together

At the centre of the stand is a mock classroom, where visitors can take part in short live demonstrations and enjoy scheduled speaker sessions throughout the day, featuring Samsung education specialists and industry speakers.

These sessions show how Samsung’s connected education ecosystem works in real classroom settings, focusing on practical teaching and learning scenarios rather than standalone technology demos.

Through hands-on experiences, visitors can explore Samsung’s education offering across three key areas:

Mobile & Computing: Tablets, laptops and education-ready devices, including the new Galaxy Book6 Series, designed to support lesson planning, content creation, collaboration and hybrid learning.

Immersive Technology: Galaxy XR[1] use cases that demonstrate how immersive and experiential technologies can enhance engagement, bring subjects to life and create new ways for students to interact with content.
