LONDON, UK – 16^th June 2025: Hive have announced that leading technology company Samsung are now part of the Works With Hive network. From today, Samsung Wi-Fi enabled heat pump owners will be able to control their devices and gain insights through the Hive App, alongside any other Hive or Works With Hive devices that they own.

New data from Hive indicates a growing interest in heat pumps among UK homeowners.

Hive, who are part of Centrica, say compared to 2024, they have seen an 87% uplift in people registering their interest in a heat pump so far this year, ahead of expectations.

Stuart Bell, National Heating Sales Manager at Samsung, said “By bringing together our trusted brands, we’re helping homeowners feel confident in choosing heat pump technology. It is great to see more and more consumers adopting heat pump technology, and we are proud to be part of that transition. The new ‘Works with Hive’ app and system will make it easier to manage and control home energy use.”

It is also reported that double the number of heat pump customers are now using the UK Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which offers grants of up to £7,500 to support heat pump purchases, in 2025 vs. 2024.

Eco-tech industry leader Hive attributes this rise to increased awareness of benefits and confidence in the technology’s suitability for UK homes.

Heat pump restrictions have recently been relaxed in England. Where the one-metre boundary rule for air source heat pumps is no longer in effect. This means homeowners can now install heat pumps closer to property boundaries without needing planning permission – opening up access to low-carbon heating for many more homes.

Oxford has an ambition to become a net zero carbon city by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Government’s targets.[1] To achieve this, tackling Oxford’s building emissions is key. As buildings are responsible for roughly 60% of emissions, it has been identified that over 30,000 air-source heat pumps need to be installed across the city by 2040.[2] The Clean Heat Streets project aims to explore how key barriers to heat pump uptake can be overcome by exploring solutions on a street-by-street basis, rather than an individual home approach.

Tim Bailey, Head of Energy Innovation at Samsung Research UK, commented: “To move from niche to mass adoption of heat pumps we need lots of organisations to work together to build the trust in the technology within local communities. We are delighted to be leading a consortium to install Samsung heat pumps at a high density in selected neighbourhoods in Oxford, and hope implementing our research will continue to grow the take up of heat pumps in the future.”

The project builds upon the work of a six month feasibility study which developed an innovative local area energy mapping approach to identify suitable homes for installing heat pumps and explored the key barriers to heat pump uptake in the Rose Hill area of Oxford. As part of the project, local heat pump experts, Alto Energy, have designed a customer journey and a supply chain, working with Samsung Climate Solutions, to create a more streamlined approach.

Scott Greening, Managing Director of Alto Energy, added: “We are excited to be working with Samsung on the Clean Heat Streets project to create a framework for delivering heat pumps affordably and at scale. We’re based in Oxfordshire, where the project is taking place, and believe we can add value to the local economy by enabling more local installers to get started installing heat pumps.”

By working to streamline the installation process, and through the economies-of-scale inherent in a street-by-street approach, the Clean Heat Streets project will be able to offer a lower installation cost to the homeowner. It will also explore how a large number of heat pumps can be installed within a particular area without causing problems to the network– for example, by causing very high peaks in demand for electricity on winter evenings. The project is working closely with the local Electricity Distribution Network operator (SSEN) to ensure smooth connection processes and avoidance of any network management issues.

The project has identified two electrical substations in Rose Hill connected to residential streets suitable for high numbers of heat pump installations. These electrical substations are part of the link in the chain that delivers electricity from generation to the ‘grid edge’, where it is used by households and businesses. The project is aiming to install 150 heat pumps across these substation areas.

This project is looking for households from the following streets areas within Rose Hill: Courtland Road,  Annesley Road, West View Tree Lane, Sheepway Court, Bears Hedge, Hunsdon Road, Abberbury Avenue, Rowney Place, Abberbury Road, Spencer Crescent, Dashwood Road, Ashhurst Way, Fiennes Road, Jersey Road, St. Martins Road and Asquith Road.

The theme for ISH this year is ‘Solutions for a sustainable future’. For five days, participants will showcase innovations “that contribute to achieving climate-protection targets and a responsible and efficient use of resources.” With a focus on heating solutions, SEACE will be exhibiting at hall 12.1 B60 and will host plenary sessions on various topics, including technical presentations of some of their key products and services:

• EHS Mono HT Quiet – A high temperature, low noise heat pump, the EHS Mono HT Quiet is ideal for the residential renovation market. It combines advanced features and new technologies to achieve hot water temperatures of up to 70°C^[1] for domestic heating purposes, and operates at noise levels as low as 35 d(BA)^[2], using a 4-step Quiet mode. Its high leaving water temperature make it an especially relevant solution for retrofits, replacing fossil-fuel based heating systems. Additionally, the EHS Mono HT Quiet is easy to install and maintain, and is capable of reliably providing 100% heating performance^[3] even in extremely cold weather (temperatures as low as -25°C^[4]). This heat pump has recently received the Design Plus powered by ISH award in the category heating/air conditioning, and is also Quiet Mark Certified^[5].

• EHS Mono R290 – The newest addition to Samsung’s range of premium high temperature monobloc heat pump solutions, the EHS Mono R290 is equipped with Propane (R290), a natural refrigerant with a much lower global warming potential (GWP) compared to refrigerant technologies such as R32. The EHS Mono R290 lineup offers 2 possibilities: One with a pump integrated solution that facilitates easy installation, and another unit that allows for onsite installation of the pump. By introducing this new range, Samsung is prepared to follow future F-gas regulations that are poised to enter into force in a few years.

• SmartThings Energy combines connected living and IoT with home energy monitoring, individual device monitoring and energy efficiency. With SmartThings Energy, users are empowered to take control of their household energy usage. Based on user habits, the app recommends ways for users to be more energy efficient, and enables easy monitoring and management of energy usage of a wide range of appliances in your home^[6]. Overall, SmartThings Energy integrates functionalities that support “Net Zero Home” installations (for example heat pumps in combination with photovoltaic solutions, electric vehicle chargers and energy efficient solutions).^[7]

• EHS Cloud Service – a new cloud-based solution designed to empower technical partners, such as installers, offer proactive service and support to their customers. It can provide data and insights^[8] that enable the remote optimization of a unit’s performance, along with real-time issue resolution. With the EHS Cloud Service, users benefit from the possibility for remote service escalation, as well as features such as live updates for monitoring system behavior, automated reporting, energy consumption overviews, and map overviews to facilitate field visits.

LONDON, UK – 23rd August 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has today announced the launch of its new Series 5, 5+, 6+ and 8 A+++ Rated 9KG Tumble Dryers, featuring Heat Pump technology that saves £330^[1] on annual household energy bills when compared to a standard condenser tumble dryer.

Samsung’s energy efficient Heat Pump technology makes sure clothes are optimally dried while saving on power consumption. It works by absorbing water from the laundry by passing hot air through the drum, which evaporates and removes the water. This air is then reheated and sent back through the drum multiple times until the laundry is dry.

What’s more, the new Series 5, 5+,6+ and 8 A+++ Rated Tumble Dryers are gentle on fabrics, with a maximum temperature of 60 degrees compared to 120 degrees with a standard condenser tumble dryer. Other key features include:

The launch comes as research by Samsung reveals shoppers are seeking out home appliances which support their move towards a more conscious lifestyle^[3].
