LONDON, UK – 30th August 2022 – New research from Samsung Electronics UK has revealed that 62% of the nation searching for a property today are now looking for something different in a future property to what was of interest to them a decade ago – including a bigger kitchen for entertaining (36%) and a fast Wi-Fi connection (29%).

‘Home Movers’ in the UK are on the rise with over a third (34%) looking to move home in the next year, with a quarter (25%) of those having already put their current home on sale.

In terms of what the British public would rather have when moving house, the study revealed that Brits are looking for outdoor space over a place to park their car, with more than two-thirds (69%) choosing a garden over a parking space and nearly half (49%) picking a house with a park nearby over one that is close to public transport (43%). Surprisingly over half (53%) of people would rather a spare bedroom than a home office with just over a third (38%).

When it comes to technology in the home, nearly half (46%) would rather a TV that doubles up as artwork than traditional picture frames (32%). Home Movers are also seeking out other home appliances such as:

61% would rather a cordless vacuum than a standard vacuum (30%)

40% would choose a smart steamer over a traditional steamer (30%)

57% would opt for an American-style fridge over a wine cooler (26%)

In addition to this, whilst 60% of those polled would like to have a completely digitally connected home where the house is connected to devices that can be controlled remotely via a smartphone or computer, 38% wouldn’t know where to start when trying to create a smart home.

Kate Watson-Smyth, Interiors Guru shares her insights and tips for Home Movers: “It’s clear that the last two years has had a lasting effect on what we want from our homes with over a third of us looking to move house in the next year. The desire for a bigger kitchen reflects the fact that we plan to entertain at home more often and two thirds of us would now rather have a garden over a parking space. This desire to make the most of our homes as welcoming spaces for friends and family is also reflected in the fact that over half of us would rather have a spare bedroom than a home office.

Moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do so the key is organisation. Start as soon as you can by clearing out cupboards and getting rid of things you no longer need either by recycling, donating or taking to the tip. Then once you have moving dates locked in you should be left with a tidier house with no clutter so you can get on with the business of packing.”

Tanya Weller, Marketing Director of Home Appliances at Samsung Electronics (UK & Ireland) Ltd., said: “With the rise in home movers, many now have a different checklist compared to ten years ago. The last two years have made people think about what they really want, with outdoor space being a key priority. In addition to this, home appliances that are convenient for families are hugely desired – from Samsung’s Bespoke Jet Pro Extra, which is a powerful, light, and efficient cordless vacuum cleaner with a built-in clean station that automatically empties dust and delivers hygienic cleaning, to our most energy-efficient RS8000 American-style fridge freezer on the market[1] that offers a sleek design and increased storage space for food.”

With 53% of respondents opting for a spare bedroom over a home office, products such as the Samsung M8 Smart Monitor, means Home Movers don’t need to choose between the two. The M8 is the ultimate space-saving solution for work and play, allowing users to enjoy a variety of OTT services[2], including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV via Wi-Fi without having to connect to a PC or TV.

What’s more, with Home Movers keen to incorporate style into their homes, products such as Samsung’s Frame TV and Bespoke Refrigerator range offer just this. Combining state-of-the-art TV technology with inventive, yet equally sophisticated design, The Frame looks just as striking on, or off. Samsung’s Bespoke range encompasses the latest trends of modularity and personalisation in the home, with units that can be customised to suit individual styles and storage needs.

LONDON, UK – July 2022 – Research reveals almost half (45%) of Gen MZs (1981-2005) say their ‘working from home’ space has cluttered their home, impacting their mood (28%), creativity (22%), productivity (21%) and inspiration (19%).

The study by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. found nearly three quarters (72%) have had to make changes to their homes to adapt to the new working conditions, such as installing IT equipment from work (43%), buying additional furniture, such as a desk or a chair (40%), and changing the layout of their living space (36%).

In terms of where Gen MZs are working within the home, 32% sit on the sofa and 30% even work from their bed, showing a lack of suitable space within the home. It’s therefore not surprising that just 20% are ‘very satisfied’ with their working from home set up. And compared to when they first started working from home, almost two in five (39%) feel less productive now and 38% are bored of doing it.

The top WFH bugbears include:

Other family members distracting in the house (32%)

Not getting to go outside enough (29%)

Limited social interaction (27%)

Lack of space (25%)

Clutter (24%)

Not being able to switch off after work (23%)

To overcome these issues, Samsung Electronics Ltd. has partnered with renowned decluttering expert, Lucy Mansey, to share the best ways to minimise clutter and be more organised in the home.

Hailed by Davina McCall as ‘the Marie Kondo of Britain’, Lucy Mansey is one of the UK’s leading organisational experts and has worked with a plethora of celebs to help them declutter and organise their homes.

Lucy Mansey’s ‘top tips’ on minimising clutter in your WFH space:

Get products off surfaces and the floor by utilising your vertical space. Whether that be a pegboard for paperwork, pots to house stationery, or cleverly built shelves around a doorframe to store books and folders, using the wall space right in front of you will alleviate the clutter around you.

Look at every area in your house, could you create an office under the stairs by carving out some space? Or even an area in between wardrobes with a little desk nestled in might double up as the perfect solution to your WFH needs.

Have products that are multifunctional and space saving, like the slimline Samsung M8 Smart Monitor where everything you need is on one screen. No more clunky PCs, TVs and phones, as this clever monitor does it all, and in style.

A chunky, solid desk can take up valuable space, so why not look at space saving options such as a modern-day bureau or one that neatly folds away? You could even build shelving that doubles up as a standing desk for when your legs need a little love.

Adopt a ‘bouncer’ attitude to your working area and allow for a ‘one in, one out policy’ so if you buy something, think about what may need to be donated or given to a friend to ensure items don’t build up.

If you’re shooting content from home, have a caddy that neatly stores backdrops and props; this can then be easily tucked away at the end of the day for when you want to revert back to using your Samsung Smart Monitor as a TV.

Build in storage wherever you can. Ironically, the more storage you have, the more space you will save!

Damon Crowhurst, Head of Display at Samsung Electronics UK, said: “Samsung’s Smart Monitor M8 is the perfect product for those looking to keep their productivity levels high while reducing clutter. Available in four colours – Warm White, Sunset Pink, Daylight Blue, and Spring Green – it’s the ultimate space-saving solution for work and play.
